in my opinions rats are a little higher maintenance but you get more human interaction - mice are less likely to wanna come cuddle with you but you can always see what they've been up to which i find highly entertaining

My first mouse was named Pants. He was a very good boy, and I’m so glad he warmed up to me even though the way my mom took him home was so traumatic. She basically did the opposite of everything on this list

My mouse, Button, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9th. It was unexpected and I knew something was wrong with her days prior to her death. I tried to help her and I had a vet appoint. already scheduled. It breaks my heart that I couldn't do enough.

My mice that I have were pet mice that were in with feeder mice so I saved two that were extremely attached to eachother plus they were both extremely interested in me. I bought them to save them to be pets and they're precious 💓 I also have 2 bearded dragons who are amazing too.
I might be getting mice for my birthday. I have been doing research of different small animals for 3 months now. Mice were the best fit for me. I’m so happy I found your channel. I love mice and I hope to be able to get one soon
I love watching you petting the mouse with your thumb. Of course, I understand they need some time and you need some patience, but I love watching small pets in people's hands and getting petted.

Boy, one day I am going to get female mice. Right now I have Degus and they take up all the time I would have for another pet friend. The degus are great though! I like your videos. I do the slow switch over for feeding on all my pets!

I just got my 5th mouse today! It was a bit of an impulse buy... but I already was thinking of getting another mouse... there was an absolutely beautiful siamese mouse at my local pet store... and I just had to have it! Thankfully I already had a cage set up for it. It’s my first male mouse, I currently have three females. I know buying from pet stores are bad... but I haven’t ever seen a siamese in any of the shelters, and I don’t have a breeder anywhere near me.

I am looking into only mice of my own because I have on hamsters for 3 years now and I'm on my own another small rodent Pat and I wanted to own guinea pigs or gerbils but they were not on the right path for me so I think I'm nice might fit into my lifestyle a little bit better your videos are helping me a lot to learn about mice and the care they need and I'm also doing a lot of my own research

I got my Reggie from a petco on a whim. Within two days he was sitting in my pocket. A week later he’s letting me pet him in my hand, sleeping in my pocket etc. He isn’t even pooping on me as much 😂 just wish he wasn’t so stinky

Do you have any experience adding ventilation to a cage? I was wondering if you thought adding a fan could reduce the ammonia that irritates their lungs, but it also might make it too dry. Thanks!
I don’t! Generally you shouldn’t use fans even pointed at their cages because it can irritate their respiratory systems so I don’t think adding one into the cage would be good

I got my first ever mouse yesterday (as a birthday present because my hamster recently passed away, which luckily I still have the tank from her) and as I was putting in the fresh chews, fresh bedding, and new hammocks, my mouse was climbing on me and climbing up my arm, so I guess he is very friendly :)
Most of my mice were extremely timid for the first few days, except for Angelique. She climbed up onto my arm 8 times the first evening.
On 1:33 what brand bedding did you use? I’m having trouble finding aspen bedding in the Uk online
I think it is aubiose. It is a horse bedding. Which Is safe for rodents.
@@nopatiencegrain can you freeze that bedding to kill mites? Or would that cause mold instead

Another great way to transport small animals (especially slightly bigger ones like hamsters and gerbils) is to use a jar and move them in that!

7 weeks till I can bring my cuties home! I’m getting them from a breeder. So far they aren’t born but the mother is pregnant!
My mom found a feeder mice add on craigs list and on that day we drove over and we got 3 lovely baby mice
I finally got approval from both my parents and I’m hoping to get a mouse soon!! I’m so excited!! Feel free to give me name suggestions. I have yet to set up the cage yet but I will set it up soon after I get everything. Ahh so happy!!
A suggestion to people who wants to talk your parents/ guardian into letting you get a mouse/mice. Show that you have ALL your research done and let them know you are willing to try and do chores/ work your job to earn money and help pay for some of the Mice things.
Goodluck and I suggest making a notes thing that’s full of things like
•what cage you need
•what food you need
•what toys you need
•what hideouts you need
•what water and stuff you may need.
Please please PLEASE make sure you use different sources and do lots of research before getting a rodent or any pet in general

Is a 30 gallon tank good for 2 mice? I really like the one you use in the video its just im getting a 30 gallon tank for them, is it big enough for 2 mice or more?

Another thing to watch out new mice owners need to watch for is stress induced "wet tail". I would recommend getting a bottle of wet tail drops for the mice just incase they do get a little stress poops. Let's face it we have all been there, mice are no different.
My little boy basil got stressed and he stress pooped. But with a few days on wet tail and he cleared right up!
Also do not force your mice into something they are obviously not comfortable in. Basil is not comfortable nor does he like being in his run about ball, when I put him in it the first time he stress pooped so I had to start him on wet tail again.

I recommend using some kind of cloth (the kind that they can't get theirs nails caught in it). I very much prefer it over any loose bedding and it's super easy to clean. 😁❤️
Anything that’s dust free or dust extracted as rats have a very Delicate raspatory System or fleece a good brand of bedding I recommend is back to nature you can find it in most pet stores in the uk I don’t know anywhere else though 😘😃

Also - I forgot to add this and it is really important! Never ever should you leave the cage "wires" exposed for the rats to walk on (this is what it looks like: www.petandgarden.com.au/rat-mouse-cages/1079-rat-cage-white-medium-60-cm.html ). If the bottom of the cage and the shelves are made of plastic, that is perfectly fine. If they are wired, you have to cover them immediately. Otherwise your ratties can develop bumblefoot.
I don't recommend cloth, mice love to burrow, so you should get some kind on fine bedding where they can dig, and put a thick layer of it. You can use low dust wood shavings, or other types like hemp, linen or paper bedding.
Em, do you tend to find that mice smell way stronger than rats? I find that if mice are in a room upstairs I can smell them when I walk in the front door
I haven’t found that! When I walk in the room all I can smell is my rats it’s only when I open the mouse cage that I smell them ☺️
That was the same with me, and it turns out it was the cage!!! The plastic sort of absorbed the smell, and I had to get a new one. I suggest a glass enclosure for a more smell-free experience

Have a good mouse story; these are wild mice in an urban setting: I was homeless and living in an abandoned factory. I had a small wooden shack inside the factory with a lot of electronics in it like TV and a desktop computer. Come the winter, I had insulated the shack against the cold and was quite warm. The shack was roughly 8x5 in floor space. The first mouse moved quietly in and set up underneath an elevated platform where my desktop sat. We didn't bother each other and I threw little crumbs of food down on a small bowl next to the platform every day. He decided to stay; roams the factory during the day, sleeps in with me at night. I sleep in a sleeping bag next to the platform.
There is also, in the factory, a huge rat. He doesn't sleep with us. Because the mouse eats anything I leave loose, I secured all my snacks, consequently the rat is the one that goes hungry. Soon, at night, you can hear the rat running back and forth in the factory, bumping and banging against cardboard boxes and shit, looking to flush out the mouse for food....or to kill it to remove it from competing for food. I ignored it. The mouse didn't. He began to run back and forth in the shack, rolling a pebble loudly, right around my head to, obviously keep me awake. The rationale was too simple to dismiss: He wanted to annoy me enough to cause me to vocalize loud enough to ward off the rat before it decides to come into the shack.
He pulled other shit, too. Things were getting good for us later in the winter. Then one night he began to crawl under my pillow and make a bunch of scratching noises, which i thought was weird because the rat was long gone...and he wasn't using a pebble. Then I heard something I apparently wasn't "supposed" to hear: the sound of a second set of scratching noise at the other end of my sleeping bag. turns out homeboy brought in a date. When it began to be clear to the mouse that I didn't give a fuck and started to feed them both, they settled in and started to have pups. Too adorable to repeat, here.
