That was a great enclosure seeing it done makes you realise it's not that hard. It's good to know what to use what not to. Pet stores have a lot to blame for.
Throwing that enclosure together for them with all my spare things I wasn’t happy with it compared to my usual mouse enclosure but it really puts the other cage into perspective still 😞

Mice are such cute animals I would never not interested in only mice but now I really want to and your videos have been helping me a lot learning about mice and learning what type of care they need
I am new to having Mice but I have had Gerbils and Hamsters since I was a kid and I have noticed that a lot of bedding and other products advertised for small animals are purely for the humans benefit and for the company to make money with little care for the animals welfare.
I love small cages as part of a bigger setup, but deffo not as a stand alone cage. Like, as a cage within a cage it's a lot of fun since it gives a lot of climbing/exercise opportunities, and it's a nice enclosure during cleaning or brief in-house travel (though wire cages are not really suitable for travel).
I always get new ideas when i see your cage set-ups, what are those wooden matts on the back and sides? It looks amazing especially with the bars, makes it look really homey.
Glad these sweeties were adopted! ❤ Holly looks so much like my Sniff, I love her. 🥰 I bet these girls were so relieved to be out of that small lavender smelling cage, especially poor Merry, her breathing sounded horrible at first. And ugh, I can't stand those small wheels, not suitable for any rodents, but pet stores don't give a crap. My hybrid dwarf hammy came with one when I rescued her, it pained me to think that the tiny wheel that hurt her back was her only way of getting her energy out, since she lived in a small carrier. She loves her 28cm wheel and I love watching her run in it. ☺

Depends on the severity of the respiratory infection and what we’ve already tried, a vet will be able to decide what will be best. Usually start with a combination of baytril and doxycycline and move onto something stronger if it doesn’t work
I kept my mice in that cage for about a half a year, until I started watching your videos and got them a 40 gallon tank, filled to the brim with things, all thanks to you! they lived over two years old, (3/5) of them that is, the other two had health complications due to being pet store mice, and now my rats live in a double critternation full of toys, and i don’t take any of the credit, it’s all yours ❤

Its awesome to see you are doing small animal rescue now. They really need more advocates. I foster and do small animal rescue also. I do wonder though, do you you keep females for a full pregnancy watch time before rehoming? Or is that not as common of an issue where you live?
It's a case by case basis, you can tell when they've come from a home where they're the only mice / pet so it's less of an issue. They have to stay for 2 weeks minimum to make sure they're healthy, and it takes a few weeks after that for them to be adopted and collected so it usually works out longer than a gestation period anyway :)

I have a question for any experienced with rats. I feel like the bedding im using could be better. I am using the kaytee bedding. Should I change it, and if so what should bedding should I be using?
My neighbour has two hamsters in the smallest cages ever, I wish i could rescue there babies but im unsure how. The neighbours dont interact with them at all so i doubt they would be missed.

I got two mice yesterday but they’re both boys… do you know how I can take care of them? I have one cage (20in x 11.5in x 16in) and at least two of each object (besides the water Bottle) their were only boys at Petco and they looked the calmest so we had no choice.
If they're getting along that's good, but usually multiple males can't live together long term as they will fight. Also you might wanna invest in a larger enclosure. :)
You’ll want to get another enclosure for them (two as the cage you have now isn’t big enough unfortunately) you’ll want to have another cage on hand to either split them now or for when it does happen. Some people keep male mice together and in rare cases don’t have any issues but you’re always playing with the risk of possibly waking up to one of them being killed 😞 if they’re even fighting a small bit now it’s only going to escalate so I would separate
I got a male mouse because no one would adopt him, he's adorable but really not into being handled, he will come and eat in my hand but I can't touch him.. Any idea on how I can improve that? I don't want to force him to do anything but I also want to show him something else!
With mice that may just be his personality! A lot of mice don’t like being touched when they’re in your hand the only thing you can do is repeat exposure to it while he’s eating
@@Emiology thank you! At least I know that he is comfortable with me because he will go on his wheel and eat while I'm working next to him and he doesn't mind being touched when I give him snacks
Unfortunately, people in pet stores (employees & customers) simply don't know any better and they see this cage on the shelf in the store, and if you didn't know any different, it would LOOK like a 'fancy' cage because it's got all those extra fancy bits. The stores themselves have no problem selling all this to new owners, whom, to their credit, at least THINK they're doing right by them because compared to the cheaper 'base' model, the fancy one is more expensive, and thus 'better' in their mind. Again, not the owner's fault really, just lack of information and understanding because the chances of the pet store actually being able to hire someone that DOES know better is usually slim to none.
It's time owners started taking more responsibility though! Unfortunately pet stores will always exist and likely always sell unsuitable products, it's equally up to someone choosing to bring a life into their home to do their research and not trust one source, and that goes for pet stores, one website, youtubers etc. With how much we have available to us now, it takes a quick google search that people are capable of doing when shopping for the best brand of washing machine, the best products for babies etc, there's really no excuse when it comes to small animals any more, gone are the days when all you had was a 10 year old book and a pet store employee to go off of.
@@Emiology Exactly! When I got my first rats, research was pretty much all I did, drawing from multiple sources, pages, channels, etc to get the most broad range of information possible. Relying on a single source for info is a bad idea in general, which is why I always look for confirmation from independent sources.
In this day and age, products that are unsuitable and generally harmful to pets should not be sold commercially, period. I can't believe that *lavender scented* bedding for small rodents exists. You should not be able to buy that, consumer ignorance be damned. Same with the 5" wheel - there is no animal that is small enough to use a wheel that small.
@@SLTheOneAndAwesome19 Yeah, I literally cringed more than once, and when you said Lavender scented: ua-cam.com/video/ahrBOvz1jzA/v-deo.html The only way to solve this problem is to get people to stop buying them because Cor-merica (and the like) have no problem continuing a product line so long as it's legal and profitable. And the best way to get rid of them is to do what you are doing by raising awareness as much as possible! tl;dr = Love what yer doing!
@@Rekuzan You seem to have confused me with Emi. But you're right, she's doing fantastic work both raising awareness and donating her time and resources for small animal rescues.
so cute!! at first i thought that cage looked fine but then I saw the size comparison and what you explained- its so sad that some people think they don't need to research before getting a pet! all the time i see craigslist and Facebook posts with people selling pets or their cages and the set-up is always so sad! hopefully in the future there will be better information on how to take care of them! also i have a ratty question: so i bought this metal cage and technically its for birds, and i rinsed it off and used some spray, but there is this black residue that gets on my hands if i rub my fingers on the bars... idk if its paint or something toxic?? it doesn't smell, but I've just put plastic mesh on the inside to be extra safe. I've tried looking it up, but nothing comes up. what do you think?
If possible, do you know where I can give my mice away? I want them safe because my father doesn't want them here anymore. Two-faced bastard, he bought them and now wants to get rid of them. Please help me. I beg of you.
Try joining mouse groups for your country on Facebook if there is any, worst case you’ll have to post them on selling sites but just make sure people send you photos of the type of care and setup they’ll be going to. I’m sorry he’s making you do this
I have a panic when I see people giving their pets away for free, it is a really bad idea and you don’t know for what purpose these animals will end up. I rescued some animals last week and I always tell people to not give animals away free! My rescued pets are amazing, they were purchased for a Christmas present, the owner was not involved in the gift they were given to her on Christmas Day, she was incredibly happy that we rescued them! If I were a mouse I would want to stay with you, you always give each animal love and care, their enclosures are amazing with loads of room. I have never purchased a mouse I had gerbils we always used huge aquariums with large wheels, I loved having little wooden fences, I would spend days making their enclosures, I have only purchased a name tag for my dogs collar from Pets at Home, I have seen some poorly animals inside that store and the staff don’t seem to have any knowledge of every animal they sell or rehome. The video you made of working in that store for work experience upset me, I could see how sad that had been for you and it has always stuck in my mind. I do blame parents that have no experience of the animals they buy for their kids, they should be reading up on the needs of every animal they buy!
There are some people here on YT offering animals (roof rats) for free. I had a go at them twice but they only got worse & started putting 'free' in just about every title. How can people be so stupid & not know what goes on. So glad for these little mousies.
Oh and I just want to tell you to three female mice I bought from the pet store Friday the two black-and-white ones one is opal one is Pearl and the little light gray and white are named Pebbles after the three female mice you had I named mine after yours
Even really good name brand products are getting crappier. Nowadays its all about money and not caring about people's pets. I'm not gonna mention the brands but they used to make really good products with better quality but now.... not so much. I hate that these companies make crappier products but charge more $. Its sad

Some people keep male mice together and in rare cases don’t have any issues but you’re always playing with the risk of possibly waking up to one of them being killed 😞 if they’re even fighting a small bit now it’s only going to escalate so I would separate
@@Emiology Okie I bought a tank for Pikachu. That’s his new home now :)
The only good use for sawdust bedding is for kindling for fires
I can’t believe these sweet girls didn’t have names 😭
Your new mice are so cute!
Thanks, they're not 'mine' though!
Well done ❤
Rosewood?! How disappointing!😔
Pets at Home
- no surprises 😔
@@SLTheOneAndAwesome19 Yeah, I literally cringed more than once, and when you said Lavender scented: ua-cam.com/video/ahrBOvz1jzA/v-deo.html
The only way to solve this problem is to get people to stop buying them because Cor-merica (and the like) have no problem continuing a product line so long as it's legal and profitable.
It's such a shame there's no small animal rescues near me, I'd love to adopt a mouse
This was one of my favourite videos. 😍. Do you know of any mouse rescues in or near Hampshire? X
I don’t! Not sure how much of a drive mimis rodent rescue is in London
so cute!! at first i thought that cage looked fine but then I saw the size comparison and what you explained- its so sad that some people think they don't need to research before getting a pet! all the time i see craigslist and Facebook posts with people selling pets or their cages and the set-up is always so sad! hopefully in the future there will be better information on how to take care of them!
also i have a ratty question: so i bought this metal cage and technically its for birds, and i rinsed it off and used some spray, but there is this black residue that gets on my hands if i rub my fingers on the bars... idk if its paint or something toxic?? it doesn't smell, but I've just put plastic mesh on the inside to be extra safe. I've tried looking it up, but nothing comes up. what do you think?
Oh thank goodness you saved them now we can feed them to the snakes. Wouldn't want to waste food
Not an original bone in your body
Why do the companies maje scented bedding? Is that bedding for a living animal or a person? Why is that hard for companies to maje paper bedding?
Oh and I just want to tell you to three female mice I bought from the pet store Friday the two black-and-white ones one is opal one is Pearl and the little light gray and white are named Pebbles after the three female mice you had I named mine after yours
Even really good name brand products are getting crappier. Nowadays its all about money and not caring about people's pets. I'm not gonna mention the brands but they used to make really good products with better quality but now.... not so much. I hate that these companies make crappier products but charge more $. Its sad
I see the person who had the mice HAVEN'T READ read about keeping mice.
On tik tok fur baby family have a petition on small animal enclosures
🤍
your cage is still mot big enough for 3 mice!
80x50cm is the minimum so yes it is
the cage is a bit packed you should remove some stuff, also theres a few places where they can fall from!
Mice need their enclosure to be packed… 😅 They’re not hamsters they’re not going to fall and hurt themselves
Oh yeah your doing too much unsubscribing
Care to expand on what you mean by “doing too much” 🤔
Aww. Thank you for saving these cuties. Love your channel. @sherryscaviescritters8241
