If you look it up, a C3 gimballed multi-cannon literally does ELEVEN TIMES more damage than a C2. Higher class weapons also usually have higher ranges and ammo capacity. Also, if you think the Mamba is fast, you should try engineering your Krait MK2's engines. Mine has a boost speed of 530m/s with it's full combat loadout. Or you could engineer the Mamba, it could probably go even faster since it has a higher base speed. Fly whatever feels fun to you BUT ENGINEER THOSE ENGINES!
I'd say the Mamba is not really the ideal platform for lasers. Needs something that runs a bit cooler. A common weapon for the Mamba are frag cannons. And if you want a manoeuvrable medium combat ship, look no further than the Chieftain.
Mamba... My favourite combat ship. And the sexiest ship in élite. Engineer It and nothing can catch It. Mine boost to 615m/s in a full combat fit with 2200mj of biwave fast charge shield. Which weapons? Frag cannons. Boost, pass shooting a barrage of frags... Enemy explodes 4km away of you. The fer de lance is also awesome, and is more manuverable, but the mamba just have soul
Of these two, I would choose FDL, but Mamba is also okay) But it's better not to listen to those who say that medium ships are better in battle than large ones. Of those ships that are suitable for combat, none are better. It doesn't matter if it's small, large or medium. It all depends on the pilot and what class of ship suits him best. And of course, it is not unimportant to be able to choose the right assembly for yourself. Someone just knows how to monivrate divinely and hang on the tail of anyone. Someone is a natural sniper, can perfectly keep his distance and hit the target without any problems even at a great distance. And someone has iron nerves and he can make the enemy nervous with his calm, polished movements, even when the battle is not going in his favor. I'm all about the fact that it's better to figure out what exactly you really like. Because engineering is your next step in progress, and it's much harder than making money. Trying to improve every ship will take forever. Therefore, you will have to choose, and it is better to know what you want instead of listening to others and then regret it. Because people undeniably figured out what is better and what is worse. But each of them figured it out for themselves, and what is good for them is not necessarily good for others. I, too, have figured out a lot of things in my 9 years of playing, which is why I am in no hurry to give specific advice to beginners :)
You always put things into proper perspective, and I've learned a lot from them, and it is true indeed to figure out what ship fits you and what style you want for combat or for other career you choose, it is good to listen to advices, but eventually it comes down to what will make you enjoy the gameplay more. Thank you cmdr o7
@@Foxyloxy.X Thank you😄 I hope this is really useful and does not bother. I just sometimes reread my comments and feel like a babbling old man. 😅 But I really mean it with the best of intentions. Elite is not an ordinary MMORPG which the only one way to the only one true victorious setup. That's why it's beautiful. For anyone there is a combination of tools and engineer's for them, which will allow you to implement almost any idea, and it will work.)))
Both ships have pros and cons, but the FDL wins it for me though it takes practice to get that huge hardpoint into play as it is placed on the underside of the ship and a bit of practice with FA on/off can compensate that horrid pitch lag/dead zone the FDL has. Mine is an all multicannon build with a rapid fire mod on the huge hardpoint and can fire forever without overheating even without full pips into weapons.
the overheat problem is the beam lases because they are constant, pulse lases should not overheat, you can try the burst laser for some balance between damage and heat
i wonder if anyone showed you the FSD booster as of yet? yeah it is one of the primary grinds everyone should do for extra jump range on every ship you buy. if you want more info look up Guardian FSD Booster you will et all the info in a short video of what this optional mod is. hint hint "YOU WANT THIS FSD BOOSTER"
The FDL was a dog of a ship back in the early days of elite , but had tons of boost done over time , as you can see still see it in the powerplant , as its a smaller one than the actual size of the power plant slot , its armour hardness got boosted , its heat management got boosted as well. And became the most hated ship in elite as griefers used it . Personaly i hate this ship , the mamba is fast but lacking something .
5:59 you had propably know that, but i'm going to write it anyway. You're going to overheat, really REALLY fast. Either that or your power distributor will just die immadietely after pressing the trigger for more that three seconds.
Since you're going to use that ship exclusively for combat, you might consider putting a "Kill Warrant Scanner" in one of your utility slots. See when you kill a wanted ship, you'll get a bounty for it from that system. But if you use a kill-warrant scanner on it before it dies, you'll also get any bounties it may have in any OTHER systems, too! You'll have to assign it to a fire group and hold a trigger down for a few seconds to use it, but it can make you some extra money.
If i can advise you something: I thought about it for a long time, and I think it's finally time for you to get into engineering your ships and modules. It's not much you can do nowadays without proper engineering, and you had eaten a pretty big chunk of it already
Yes cmdrs, engineering is exactly what I plan to do next now that I finally got my '"Bunny Bus", I can travel far to gather materials and start the true beauty of ED.
@@Foxyloxy.X You should start it. "Everything G1" is just game changer. You will play another game when you start engineering. "Experimental effects" is sort of superpowers, those can be added to at least G1 upgrade. Different combinations of the effects will make different games for you.
Krait Mark II is better than BOTH for Combat... and if you don't care about having a fighter with you then the Krait Phantom is great too with Military Compartments... Your power plant can only power so many energy weapons so I like to include some Multi-Cannons for extra firepower.. I have them upgraded with extra ammo capacity and use turreted ones on my AFK Type-10 ship without running out of ammo before finishing my missions(20 at a time). Too many energy weapons can overheat, keep your weapon pips low to prevent overheating.. Felicity Farseer offers "Enhanced" thrusters that work great on Viper Mk. III boosting my ship to 730m/s... If you strip it down & optimize you can push 900m/s heat can go up to 250% before doing damage, in fact you have to do this to burn off Caustic Damage from Thargoids... Measure medium ships to medium ships like Krait Mk. II and take them to high threat missions to compare... ALSO novice fighters don't take much of your XP and as you train they cost least!
oh hey, something to watch for with AFK ship is fuel running out.. another reason I put multi-cannon on my Type-10. For energy weapons I only have 2 grade 3 beam laser turrets and 1 burst laser gimballed grade 1 to engage targets when monitoring AFK ship.. all grade 2 spots are Multi-Cannon with Oversize & extra ammo. With the gimballed burst laser I use turreted multi-cannon in grade 1 spots & that 1 multi i put corrosive shell experimental upgrade @ engineers with extra ammo & works great.. but watch the fuel, your AFK ship runs out of fuel so watch that because energy weapons use a lot of .. energy.. 8D I get 2 full days with multi cannon(extra ammo & oversized) for in close & many "wing" missions... 18 hours I get with all beam laser@@Foxyloxy.X Cutter is a great AFK ship too with the weapon spread. grade 2 is beam laser turreted & all grade 3 spots Multi-Cannon.. these are set-ups that work for me.. they may work for you too... 8D 🤖
You only need 1multicanon with corrosive effect and keep higher dps on the other. Also efficient defeats point of thermavent. Vent amount is limited by laser heat generation so with efficient you get 1 lasers worth of vent from 2 minimizing cooling effect for your plasma huge gun
If you add at least 3 beam lasers to your Mamba, engineer them to be Efficient (with Thermal Vent), you'll make your Mamba's heat problems your target's problem.
No never efficient for vent. That limits thermal vent effectiveness. The heat transfer of vent is tied to the heat level the laser can generate. Use long range 2 for optimal thermal vent combo.
@@AtlasRandGaming While you may be correct, I find that my highly engineered efficient beams slowly deplete my capacitor (at 4 pips) and the thermal vent cools my ship nicely (to the point that my canopy starts frosting up).
Since you prefer lasers, you should engineer a beam laser with an experimental mod, that when it hits its target, transfers your heat into the opponent’s ship.
If you still haven't watched the ship reviews by Hawks gaming.. please do so directly.. they're funny and informative. Just do it.. Nice roll cage on the Corvette and colors.. go with the FD. I'm not going to watch the whole video. No time for that. I got a Beach to go to... Man, I love Hawaii 🌺🌞🥰🪐
For this game, I try not to look at any other youtube until way later, because I want to explore everything on my own and keep my video genuine as best as I can, even making a lot of mistakes in the beginning. Enjoy the beach!

you really limiting your efficacy now with your materials and you can apply effects to all those weapons if you get the engineer unlocked particularly efficiency settings on those lasers. Burst lasers rather than beams will help and a huge ballistic weapon does a lot of damage once Shields come down

Anaconda for killing Python for mining. Done
Mamba ALL the way!
But I really mean it with the best of intentions.
I tired the burst laser, I love them, thx for the tips
i wonder if anyone showed you the FSD booster as of yet? yeah it is one of the primary grinds everyone should do for extra jump range on every ship you buy. if you want more info look up Guardian FSD Booster you will et all the info in a short video of what this optional mod is. hint hint "YOU WANT THIS FSD BOOSTER"
I don't know what it is yet, but will do some research and find out, thx cmdr
The FDL was a dog of a ship back in the early days of elite , but had tons of boost done over time , as you can see still see it in the powerplant , as its a smaller one than the actual size of the power plant slot , its armour hardness got boosted , its heat management got boosted as well. And became the most hated ship in elite as griefers used it . Personaly i hate this ship , the mamba is fast but lacking something .
5:59 you had propably know that, but i'm going to write it anyway. You're going to overheat, really REALLY fast. Either that or your power distributor will just die immadietely after pressing the trigger for more that three seconds.
yep
Since you're going to use that ship exclusively for combat, you might consider putting a "Kill Warrant Scanner" in one of your utility slots. See when you kill a wanted ship, you'll get a bounty for it from that system. But if you use a kill-warrant scanner on it before it dies, you'll also get any bounties it may have in any OTHER systems, too! You'll have to assign it to a fire group and hold a trigger down for a few seconds to use it, but it can make you some extra money.
Engineer it for fast scan too
I have been bounty hunting wrong my whole life then, thanks for the tip
I have it on the same group as gimbled lasers… while they take out Schiller, I get the scan
@@AtlasRandGaming This is the way
@@AtlasRandGaming Now there's an idea...
If i can advise you something: I thought about it for a long time, and I think it's finally time for you to get into engineering your ships and modules. It's not much you can do nowadays without proper engineering, and you had eaten a pretty big chunk of it already
I agree, he Will be amazed with how much a ship can improve with just a full Grade 3 engineering
Yes cmdrs, engineering is exactly what I plan to do next now that I finally got my '"Bunny Bus", I can travel far to gather materials and start the true beauty of ED.
Make beam laser to vent heat. You will need 2-3 later for thargoids any way.
Don't know how much engineering he's done so far.
I have not done any engineering except tier 2 fsd, but will start soon
If you strip it down & optimize you can push 900m/s
heat can go up to 250% before doing damage, in fact you have to do this to burn off Caustic Damage from Thargoids...
Measure medium ships to medium ships like Krait Mk. II and take them to high threat missions to compare... ALSO novice fighters don't take much of your XP and as you train they cost least!
Thank you cmdr, gonna have to pay Madam's Farseer a visit soon
@@Foxyloxy.X If you get a chance, check out "Mitterand Hollow".. Trust Me, it's fun!
oh hey, something to watch for with AFK ship is fuel running out.. another reason I put multi-cannon on my Type-10. 18 hours I get with all beam laser@@Foxyloxy.X
Cutter is a great AFK ship too with the weapon spread. grade 2 is beam laser turreted & all grade 3 spots Multi-Cannon.. these are set-ups that work for me.. they may work for you too...
8D 🤖
The fastest big ship is Imperial Cutter, up to 500m/s plus with correct modification without sacrificing too much hit point and fire power.
500m/s for a huge ship like that is awesome.
Fer-de-lance or Mamba? Yes...
good answer
😅I run 2 small multi cannons overcharged with corrosive experimental , 2 large beams effient thermal vent and 1 huge plasma effient plasma slug
You only need 1multicanon with corrosive effect and keep higher dps on the other. Also efficient defeats point of thermavent. Vent amount is limited by laser heat generation so with efficient you get 1 lasers worth of vent from 2 minimizing cooling effect for your plasma huge gun
If you add at least 3 beam lasers to your Mamba, engineer them to be Efficient (with Thermal Vent), you'll make your Mamba's heat problems your target's problem.
nice!
Ok I admit it this video was a surprise :) see you out there in the black Cmdr Foxy . o7
Thank cmdr, Gregor, see you in the void o7
9:54 told ya
Good choice and now you are elite you can go to shinrarta Dezhra and everything is their and cheaper
Yes indeed, just visited Jameson for the first time and love that place
Since you prefer lasers, you should engineer a beam laser with an experimental mod, that when it hits its target, transfers your heat into the opponent’s ship.
And engineer the thrusters. Dirty drives (more heat) or clean drives (lower speed bonus, but less heat).
@@raymobula but if he misses his target it overheats even faster, keep that in mind.
Got it will start to look into those engineering
@@kempo79 I know. And yes, good reminder. I have a turrets with this mod.
Sexiest ship in the game - love my Mamba!
Ya not meta but yes to great looking
If you still haven't watched the ship reviews by Hawks gaming.. please do so directly.. they're funny and informative. Just do it.. Nice roll cage on the Corvette and colors.. go with the FD. I'm not going to watch the whole video. No time for that. I got a Beach to go to... Man, I love Hawaii 🌺🌞🥰🪐
For this game, I try not to look at any other youtube until way later, because I want to explore everything on my own and keep my video genuine as best as I can, even making a lot of mistakes in the beginning. Enjoy the beach!
Heat damage is overrated. After a massive nerf, running hot isn’t as dangerous anymore than it used to be.
If u engineer this ship with "armoured" power plant and "charge" power distributor you will have no more heat problems
, not to mention the engines with "dirty drives" . lol
you really limiting your efficacy now with your materials and you can apply effects to all those weapons if you get the engineer unlocked particularly efficiency settings on those lasers. Burst lasers rather than beams will help and a huge ballistic weapon does a lot of damage once Shields come down
Krait mk2 is all I have to say.
if you be able to engi beam lasers with heat-vent effect you could dumping your heat to enemy. Just for idea XD. GL HF and fly dangerous Cmdr O7
Ferdelance is much better. Better gun combo better turning better pvp
I've heard good things about that ship, will have to try it sometimes before I can say I made the right choice. Thx cmdr!
Oh yeah - and don't really look what does it says in the shipyard when you buy ship - there's a lot of stuff that's just straight up a lie.
I mean yeah, you can read it for fun, but don't allow it to change your mind when you buy a ship.
Great example is mamba - yes, it is fast. But there are a lot of other ships that are equal or faster
You are absolutely right, I will try the FDL sometime later, and probably will have a better idea what is the combat ship I truly like
Ya he isn’t lying. Descriptions were written before ships were balanced years ago.
I chose both! :)
If he recommended the Mamba he's not your friend 😂
I have to test out all the combat ships to see which one I like most.
@@Foxyloxy.X I don't think it's going to be one favorite ship. By all means, try them all out. More than once. A ship you don't appreciate now because you prefer turrets or gimbals and need many of them because of the low damage output might be totally different later when you learned to fly and enjoy staying behind, above or below the target. Especially the Eagles, Viper, DBS, Vulture and Alliance Ships will transform in their experience with your skills building. And with full engineering. A long distance trip to Colonia will be different in an Anaconda, DBE or Krait Phantom. You will appreciate the DBEs ability to land on a handkerchief next to features you want to explore, or the Anacondas ability to carry the multi Limpit controller only comming in a class 7. The Phantoms ability to refuel much more quickly than the DBE and still don't fly like an oil tanker like the Anaconda.
For combat, I always come back to my Chieftain "Gunboat Diplomat". Here's the build, you will understand why sometime.
