Fer-De-Lance actually means Tip of the Spear (direct translation is Spearhead) in French, which actually makes sense considering the ship's shape.

Fer-De-Lance is also French for tip of the spear, or spearhead. Given the shape of the ship, it's quite appropriate. Then you get the double meaning fun that it's also a species of snake.

All the ships in the original 1984 Elite were named after Snake references other than the Thargoids and Thargons.

@@tudorg22 sometimes Zorgon Peterson gotta take it to the chin and learn a lesson or two from lakon, their canopys are pretty easy to shot but they at least work on the centering part
@@victorhugo-wo2ci yes. I play this game in vr only so all the time I am basically inside the cockpit. and although lakon cockpits are not my favoutite (very rudimentary design and too much open space), they are much better than the fdl

I absolutely adore this ship. It was my first “big” purchase, I grinded out the 51 million for it in my Cobra 3 doing Data deliveries between two systems in close proximity at the bottom of the bubble. I wanted it so desperately I didn’t even save enough cash for its insurance or part upgrades. I slapped on some pulse lasers and went hunting at a Rez site and damn near lost it, only had 13% integrity left when I barely managed to jump out. Needless to say, I didn’t touch it again until I fully outfitted it. 2 years later and the shields have only ever popped one time (due to drunken negligence.) Still my most engineered ship by far. I named her “Morpho” after my favourite species of Butterfly. I love that your videos bring back memories like this. Congrats on the sponsor, and keep up the good work :)

That was my last rebuy and I had to get back to farseer like that...
I'm doing the same... I'm up to 70 mil grinding out courier missions and mining in the starter systems with a cobra... There are much faster ways, but I'm enjoying doing it the hard way for the appreciation factor...

The FDL is easily one if my favorite mediums and I absolutely love the audio feedback; the distinctive growls and screams of the primary thruster are one of it's more endearing features. 😊

I remeber the times when the FDL was considered a tough ship to fly, when there was only Cannons and Plasmas as class 4 weapons, when this ship only had a class 5 powerplant, and no engineers. I really miss those days, where you didn't have to farm the hell out of components and shit to have a decent brawl in PvP.
Me too, I love this game and I have warmed up to engineering as a system but I had an fdl after it first was released and loved the fact I could wreck all but a good anaconda build. Ngl it felt like a slap in the face when I came back from my hiatus and my 100 or so million credit fdl couldn't handle conflict zones anymore and I learned to make it perform like it used to I was gonna have to spend another couple hundred hours farming mats and scanning frameshift wakes

I'd really like to see this kind of content for ships from star conflict as well. I played a couple years back and even though PVP was pretty dead the PvE missions were quite fun esp. when you had a destroyer on your team and now you're it's fighter screen. Never really got into the open world part though. Glad to see it still kicking!

Plasma accelerators and fer de lance go together so well. Let me paint a picture for you:
1. You go into a resource site on rings
2. Cobra III nerd comes and vows to murder your entire family
3. Cobra turns back after finding no cargo
4. The Cobra is reduced to a molten slag heap, nothing more than complete and utter wreckage like the force of 1000 suns have been exerted upon the shield generator, blasting through the shield like a blazing hot knife through a toddler, the hull already whining and creaking from the absolute force of the 4A plasma slug annihilator careening towards it, vaporising immediately as the unstoppable force of the unbelievably hot, dense plasma comes into contact with the inferior hull, its commander now nothing more than a spray of ashes, red mist and a complete utter FOOL.
5. Easy bounty voucher
Did most of my corvette grind in this ship. And she's taken me far to, from barely being able to hold my own to killing my first Corvette. While she may be retired for now I'm going to turn her up to 11 as my dedicated ganker hunter ship with engineering.

Such a shame there isn’t more ships to review, I’ve watched this series way to much like 2-3x on each ship review. The delivery is great and me being from the UK it’s like watching Jeremy Clarkson doing Top Gear in space. 👌🏻👌🏻

Wish you could do a fed corvette review. I find your style of reviewing are more intriguing then people reading off the ships stats and description that EVERYONE can see before they buy it. You go into more detail and the possibilities the ship can do effectively.

I think the snake naming convention might be a reference to the paths the ships take. Like Quetzalcoatl, the feathered snake. That’s what I pretend, at least.
An easy ghetto rig for better centering is to buy the holographic alphabet dashboard bauble pack and place two letter 'V's in the middle slots on your dashboard. This will place them centered in front of the radar, with the 'V's almost touching right below the center of your screen, and about as vertically close as the conda's 'ironsight' seen on it's tip. Hope this helps.

Let me tell you, Pilot. You are a lot more entertaining than a lot of those gamers with a million subscribers. I used to play Elite Dangerous in days gone by, but had to quit about a year ago. Other things got in the way (She is now 2 and very cute) (Takes after me) and I am just getting back into it. I had even forgotten the controls! I know, I know. Any pilot worth his salt wouldn’t admit to that, but I just wanted you to understand how serious I am. So as I started watching videos to see how much the game had changed in my absence, you know, to get back into the swing of things, I stumbled onto your videos. You’re doing a great job. I laughed out loud and woke her up as I watched you and two other Knuckle Heads race through space.

The Fer-De-Lance is like a Italian supercar but with a Gatling guns mounted to it's bonnet.
I personally love how it's off center it give it a nice feel and a lovely look inside but that's just my opinion

I’ll be honest, if we ever get ship interiors, the FDL will become a Limo, the Dolphin will become a charter Bus, the Orca will be a cruise liner and the Beluga will become a combination of the Titanic in space and Air Force One! I really can’t wait for Odyssey though.

its the only ship in the game that is good at what it is meant for without being overpowered
people complain about it being better than other purpose combat ships
but... I have to say that those ships suck, and need a buff.

Challenge deficiency? Now you, too, can be part of the latest thing: All light-weight FDL. Maxed for range, no fdl booster. Question: Exactly how much DPS is lost? Does the maxed-for-range concept re-introduce challenge, or tedium? Not sure myself, seems to vary for different ships and builds.

The Fer-De-Lance is a great name. Sure it might be named after the snake, but I think it's more than that. The spear was the ultimate weapon of war for a very long time, as well as hunting. It's quite befitting
I love my FDL (which I named "Black Betty"). I once took out an NPC Anaconda in a HazRez, but he shattered my canopy. I had 25 minutes of life support, and my reinforced multi-weave Prismatic shields were recharged, and I was at 25% hill. I decided to take out another 'Conda, and almost got a 3rd, but that's when my hull was getting really low, so I headed back to my home station to repair.
Great dogfight footage. I'm impressed by the creative panning and rotations you pulled off. Cheers.

After what happened to my Python, buying the FDL and covering it head to toe in armor, shields, and an unnecessary amount of multicannons then blasting the first thing to get close to me was cathartic. It might be overkill but it makes me feel better. :P
