Hi Retro Core, Rockman is pre installed in the console? or the mini SD card? How did you get Rockman, I love it? Thanks, and greetings from Peru. I bought the console from Gearbest.
WOW!!! Nice purchase Mark. I got this one myself a few weeks back. I didn't know you can read my mind. 8^) Nice choice playing Metal Slug bro. 8^) Anthony..
Although triple or double a batteries would be more convenient the rechargeable battery in this one is really easy to find a replacement for. At least it looked like a Nokia battery.
You can run SMS, GBC and GB roms too by using SMSAdvance, Goomba Color Alpha 6 and Goomba 20 respectively. It runs them quite well with some occasional glitches due to there being 2 layers of emulation.
Unfortunately this unit (or my revision at least) doesn't register the shoulder buttons both pressed together so the menus aren't accessible in those emulators, however you can use R+Select and R+Start to save and load states in SMSAdvance and Goomba 20, much quicker than the saves in the inbuilt GBA emulator. I converted mine individually as single GBA roms but you can do them in bulk with a menu.
I’m trying to figure out where this is on my list. I’m thinking about putting in somewhere near the Woodi. The Woodi Doesn’t emulate sound nearly as well but is certainly better in terms of overall gameplay emulation and I’m having some trouble figuring out which is more important, as I could think up hypothetical people who prefer both machines.
Retro Core apparently not. While searching on AliExpress The first two results were some GBASP knockoff seen playing CPS1 games advertising itself as a “funny recreational machine” and a system called the XYC Q8. I could imagine both of these being possible contenders for future episodes. Regardless I will be removing the Woodi from both playlists.
Got one of these last week from wish($30.00). It's also way cheaper to buy from there, other sites like Amazon cost about $50-60 bucks. But yeah runs ok definitely recommend getting one of these. Also it does run Gb/gbc/nes though for nes the A and B buttons are not mapped correctly.
Looks cool, thanks. Can you check out how Golden Sun , LOZ The Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion run on it? I want one, but only if it can play the top tier GBA games at an acceptable level. A little screen tearing doesn't bother me but speed, sound and input are crucial. Thanks!
No I don't. I just don't think subpar emulation on a device as some as the GBA, SNES, Mega Drive and NES is acceptable these days. All of those systems have been emulated extremely well for years.
@@amanhasnoname8130 Except for good ones. Those consoles he reviewed were actually pretty bad when he got it. Retro NT was something he really liked (but technically it wasn't an emulation console...)
Just filmed it yesterday evening. I'll be editing it tonight, encoding on Tuesday and uploading on Wednesday. Do you want to submit more pictures? Get them to me within 10 hours and I'll add them to the new video. It's now 11:41am Japanese Standard Time.
I dont think the GBA was as powerful as the SNES, just compare the F-Zero games, they look a fair bit better on the SNES hardware. Yes the developers at the time probably were more talented in getting more out of the GBA but i wouldn't saying it was superior hardware......the sound chip definitely wasnt
To be honest the GBA is more powerful than the snes but it also has weaknesses such has no real sound hardware (many GBA games sound like crap) and quite a low resolution. If you take a look at Mario Kart on the GBA it's doing stuff that would require the Super FX 2 chip on the SNES and even then it may not run as well as the GBA game.
So I just got mine in the mail today, and haven't been able to play any games. When I try to it just returns to the main menu. Has anyone else faced such an issue and if so is there a way to fix it?
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your machine. Try putting some ROMs on to a micro SD card then using the file browser to access them. You can play FC / NES, GB, GBC, GBA, Mega Drive, SNES / SFC and Master System if you rename the extension to .bin
I tried renaming the extensions to .bin but that didn't seem to work. I also swapped out the SD card for a new one but that didn't work either But thank you very very much for the help, I really appreciate it :). I'm a huge fan of your videos and look forward to more of them in the future.
It definitely looks to be the case. Nothing to worry about I've already applied for a replacement, hopefully I get a working one next time. Also your help was much appreciated :)
i have a retro mini and love it minsih cap brill on it and got it running nes and snes and genesis and have the other one of these retro rs-97 that amazing to
Yeah, I search the net while lying in bed. It helps me sleep but also turns up there odd and some times good systems. I've got a pretty odd Famiclone review coming soon.
Viewing angles matter on a one player handheld? VGA screen? Wide-screen VGA maybe.... But I reckon its half that to be honest and I haven't even checked just viewing this on a mobile but WVGA at that size would look retina... Just saying. 🙈
Yeah, they most probably would work. This video was made in a rush unfortunately so no time to check everything. I just threw on a few roms that I had on the PC at the time.
To be honest, this console is very promising, i like that it has an SD Card slot. my only question is, does this run original Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games?
Retro Core That is something akin to a miracle. Thanks. Could you try to remember to spend a moment on the d-pad whenever you do these reviews? Much appreciated!
oof, that screen is too small for me...what is it, 2 inch? i use my old moto e 2nd gen for dedicated gba gaming, myboy makes the games look beautiful. of course if others want to get something like this then fair enough
Just change the file extension of a master system or genesis game to .bin to play it. To play gameboy and gameboy color you have to use goomba to convert it to gba file but it sometimes ruin some parts of the game. Btw I tried playing kingdom hearts chain of memories on it but it has problems with the fmv or opening screen also pushing L and R together don’t work on this one.
SMS, no. GB, yes. GG no. But you can run all of those by running a GBA Master System emulator then loading the games in to that. Emulation on emulation :) the games will run reasonably well.
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer and for all your great videos! ... (^_^) // i personnaly use a nds lite with a 10€ R4 linker and a 12€ supercard minisd that way i can play gb gbc gba nes (some snes) gg sms megadrive pcengine neogeo all in 1 console

Pokimon? Really? I can tell you've never played a Pokémon Game or even heard anyone talking about the series in general. If you look up any Pokémon videos you'll see how to actually say it.
I really don't like or have any interest Pokemon. I do know how it should be pronounced but in my native accent the "ke" is pronounced as "ki". My son watches Pokemon every week on TV (We live in Japan) and has done for the past 5 years or so. I definitely know about the show and how the world should be pronounced but as I mentioned, in my accent the "ke" becomes a "ki". Funny thing is that if I'm speaking in Japanese I would have actually said Pokemon correctly.
That's a neat little knock off. The construction's improved too.
Yeah, the construction is pretty good on this one.
Been missing these! Thanks!
I've got a few more on the way. Things have been pretty hectic for the last two weeks.
Not a bad price at all for what it can do, not bad, thanks man
I will be buying thanks
No worries. Happy to have brought the system to your attention.
Im pretty impressed!
Hey, great video Retro Core!
Thanks everyweek randoms.
Isn't Classic Kong a SNES homebrew game? I'm pretty sure I saw the .smc extension there.
Yes, you are right. Not sure why I though it was a Mega Drive game.

I have a Retromini, and i LOVE it !
P.S. Great video !

That's cool. Have you played GB and GameBoy Colour games on yours?
Retro Core
Hi.
No, but i want to try.
:-)
I hope they make other console too, like Genesis, Sega Game Gear, SNES, and PC-Engine.
That would be nice but I double they will. A mini Game Gear would be excellent.

I've made a note of that game. I'll check it out on the next GBA device I cover.

I tried Metroid Fusion which ran reasonably well. Pretty much how Metal Slug did.
Perhaps you could have zoomed in a bit more , other than the md game I couldn't really see any of the defects you spotted in the other games.
Fair comment.
I am very sure it runs also Gameboy and even Gameboy Colour roms
It most likely does. I'll post an update community message with I a day after checking it out.

Penurious Sierra so your response was pointless then...
It's a very cool handheld^^ i imagine that it could run game boy and game boy color games perfectly^^
I would imagine so. I've not had a chance to try those yet.
I finally ordered an rs97 from ebay.

Cool, got the mail.
I wonder if you change the file extension, of the sms files, to Mega Drive, would the sms games then load...?
Nah, I tried it. No luck.
Im still blown away by the port of Final Fight on the GBA, why didnt they re-release it on the SNES!
BlockABoots The SNES was already discontinued by the time the GBA hit the shelves, even in Japan.

Have seen all the high sprite 2d and also some of the amazing 3d games on GBA. Heck gba got a good port of Doom 1 and 2.

Crazy Frog is very annoying and it's a great emulation device
Thank God the Crazy Frog never made its way to Japan. You poor people in Europe had that frog everywhere.

The RS-97 is really nice, especially after you mod it with new software.
This is actually just a different shell for another GBA emulation machine you already made a video on. Still, it looks like a nicer shell at least.
Thank God 🙏 for opendingux.
Does it have custom firmware like the other one?
Hmm, I haven't looked in to that but I would imagine so.
Does it have brightness adjustment?
Can it play mame games such as metal slug or alien vs predator
Nope, I'm afarid not.
Can not import more games into it.
Can you change the frame skip ie turn it off or choose to skip more frames?
I'm afraid not. There doesn't seem to be any game options for the emulation.
