I am an 80 yr old Nana all set to call a plumber also. The video was so well explained. I went to Home Depot purchased a gasket for under $8. There is actually a packet labeled for Koehler. I couldn’t twist it from the top and was afraid I’d snap the tower. I lifted the cylinder and twisted it off near the bottom. Put the new gasket on. I was so pleased with myself.

I am a 72 yr old granny who was all set to spend $150 to have a Plumber come and stop my toilet from running. This video took all the mystery out of fixing the problem and it was the first time I ever tried to fix something by watching an online video. My friend and I spent about 10 minutes pulling the cylinder out and cleaning off the gasket. Girl power at work...THANKS for making this so easy to understand.

I have been searching for how to fix my toilet for months. I accidently stumbled across this and boy, I am so glad. I already paid a plumber friend last year to fix it to no avail. Now I can do it myself and know it's fixed. By the way, I am a 71-year-old woman living on a fixed income. These things are important to me. I also loved that you dispelled the notion that all the gunky stuff was nothing to be bothered with. You made me believe I could fix it. One of best videos I've watched. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I searched this video after installing a brand new kholer that was running. The video did not solve my problem, but as a result of inspecting the mechanical parts I found the solution for my situation. The chain which connects the arm to the float was installed too tight out of the factory. I had to unclip the chain and install it on the next loosest link. Now the toilet works and is no longer running continuously

@@URTechDotCa Thank you got my handle yesterday from Amazon NOW I don't have to remind people to raise the handle when flushing. After I forgot to tell a visitor to push the handle down last week the toilet ran for 24 hours before I found it running. Not sure what our water bill will be from that I am sure not as much as a new handle and rubber gasket. Thanks again for making this video you saved me.

This was EXTREMELY useful. I watched another video and was convinced that I needed to replace the entire flush system. But, after watching your video, I opened that canister and discovered that the o-ring had deteriorated. So, I just ordered one from Home Depot. Will pick it up later and replace it. The complete system was only $20 so I will keep it on hand, but I really only needed that $8 rubber ring.

This is the best video & explanation as well as the repair on my running toilet! I don’t comment, but I can’t resist expressing such an easy repair.
My situation , was actually the red rubber seal, apparently it came out of the gruve. I had already purchase a fill valve and flapper cuz I had the day off and didn’t want to be running back n forth to lowes. After seeing this awesome video , I didn’t even have to use what I purchased!!! I made the decision that it wasn’t totally decade or fragile. I just set it back in the groove and whola!!! Hahahaha. 👍

This video is great. I have NEVER worked on this toilet by myself other than adjusting the chain. It was just as easy as you showed here. I was also able to set the water level properly while I was in there because the instructions are pretty good as well! I did this all at 1230 in the morning with zero tools just like you. Extremely simple and I would recommend ANYONE try this BEFORE repalcing anything, calling a plumber, or buying a different toilet. Thank you for making this video!

My Kohler started running recently. I'm glad I won't need to replace the whole flush valve assembly.
The gasket on mine had developed a small gas bubble about the size of a cooked grain of rice, and had no mineral deposits, so I popped the bubble and will see how it goes until I can get a new gasket. This video made it super easy. Thanks :)

Great instructions! After our plumber put the new gasket on, the toilet still ran. So I followed all your instructions myself, and it still ran! But then I noticed my water was not filling up to the water line... I turned the screw clockwise about 30 times to get the water level up and that did it! It made sense then, as it's a sort of vacuum - AquaPiston.

I had a hardware store counter guy warn me to NOT twist the disc at the top, but to reach down under and twist the base. He says he has several people a month come in with the disc broken off. I did this seal replacement to day and took his advice, worked fine. In this video your hear the *creak* as he twists it, that's the bound up base that can cause it to break.
    The seal was a 2-pak for $10

This was handy to learn what wasn't my problem. I traced my problem to the "flush or trap handle" after exploring the problem suggested by this video. Kohler has a mechanism that fits into a square hole on the outside of the toilet. The actual chrome handle has to be able to move through this mechanism in order to full and release the chain. After time the plastic mechanism can expand and tighten down on the small metallic pipe that actually goes from the handle to the metal (or plastic) rod that attaches to the flush chain. My fix was to gently drill out the plastic locking section of the "flush handle mechanism" so that the metal rod was no longer hanging up when used. This allowed the mechanism to work properly and no longer hang up when flushing the toilet. No more annoying running toilet. I haven't seen this mentioned on any other Kohler repair video so thought I'd post it here in case anyone want to update their presentations.

When I tightened the nut at the base of the tank, I accidentally turned the floater thing, causing it to jam up against the side. I feel like a dope having done that, but super pumped I didn't have to call a plumber!!!

Thank you for sharing this. I was hoping I wouldn't have to replace all the inside. It was just calcium crumbs making it now seal good and running everyone once in a while for a short while after done flushing. Thanks for the very helpful video!
