You gotta watch the live performance she did of this just 9 months before she died. It's incredible and gets me every time
You really need to hear the LIVE version....
You have to react to the live performance from the Blues Alley jazz club! Seeing her sing and play adds a whole other level of beauty. It was recorded a few months before her passing, and is truly an amazing recording ❤
Agree on the live performance. Stunning and you will see the Angel who left us on soon.
Eva Cassidy died of cancer in her mid 30's. She never had success during her lifetime. Years after this was recorded, a DJ at a radio station in England played it and it became so popular that it went to #1. That's what started people getting interested in Eva's music years after her death. So sad she tragically died of cancer so young. Truly the voice of an angel that had so much more to give. Love you Eva. Give a listen to her version of Sting's "Fields of Gold" as well.
Yeah, the live version is the one that really gets you.
Beyond beautiful 😢
I'm so glad you're reacting to this, Jayy. Right up your alley. ♡
Eva Cassidy was an incredible talent. But you really need to listen to the live version of this song the Blues Alley performance the thumbnail is black and white with her face on it.
That was the version from her album and it included a back track and it was the first time I've heard this version. The version which most of have seen is when she sang it at a pub in Washington DC, and fortunately, someone made a video of it and this is what you were listening to. There was one slight editing change near the end of the song but I don't want to talk about it because it did nothing to take anything away from one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard in my life. When you read the comments people will tell you a lot more of what her story is all about. Very sad. But she will be remembered forever.
Hi Jayy. Glad to watch another reactor be so emotionally affected by Eva's ethereal version of this classic song. There is a documentary that her friends made, that describes her musical journey and is excellent. Her favorite kind of music was jazz. Hope you enjoy your exploration of this artist with a truly beautiful spirit . 🤗❣
I believe that if Judy Garland could have heard Eva's incredible cover of the song she made famous originally in 'The WIzard of Oz' she too would have been absolutely blown away by it. God bless both angels, sadly no longer around. 💔 💔
Some producer added an orchestra. Her original recording is just Eva and her guitar. this version is good, but the original is FAR better, IMO. Great reaction tho. Thanks
Video 100x better
Yes!
That was such a beautiful rendition of this song. So sad that she is no longer with us. She died at only 33 years of age. I also love the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Sadly he also died young at 38 years of age. At least we have their music left as a legacy.
Sooo Soooo Sad... plesse listen to Judy Garland.. before you watch the Wizard of Oz.. there's a cool video .. when she's older.. dressed like a dirty raggedy circus clown.. her last preformance.. I love that one..
I recommend you listen to "Autumn Leaves" by her too.
Remember Eric burden hoses of the riseing sun. They had lot of hit, but he did one with he group war, goggle here Eric Burdon & War - Spill The Wine (1970) h had is. Own style
Best rendition of this song was by a fellow by name of Israel. He conveyed a peaceful tenderness in his singing that is unforgettable. Do yourself a favor and give this man a listen.
Check out the story of Eva Cassidy that 60 minutes did. You will get to know her life story.
You do NOT need to watch the live performance! Most everyone doesn't know the Live at Blues Alley; Eva Cassidy had the Flu. People closest to her, said she would have NOT wanted her performance out there for people to see. The reason being she was not 100% This version was done in her Boyfriend/Bass players studio. This was actually a MUCH BETTER version, showing just how flawless her vocals were.
Not just the vocals for me because it is incredible even with the flu, but her face and the guitar…did it for me…moved me beyond words. Nothing like this performance of this song ❤️
@@tcat6133 I totally agree. This overproduced sound-modulated thing is not remotely as good as her live performance.
This one....not so good....go LIVE....Blues Ally D.C.
