I so much want the younger generation to hear Eva's music. As you have heard, Eva was not only an incredible singer, but also a master with her guitar. She has conversations going on between her voice and guitar throughout this performance. Eva had a cold the day this was recorded, hence the crack in the last note.

If i may, I would second the proposal for Fields of Gold.....Sting himself declared it was the best version of his song, after he heard it.
I never thought I would prefer anyone's version of this song over Judy's but Eva has won me over.

I’ve listened to this at least 100 times and I go directly to tears. It’s just so emotional especially that she is no longer here with us.

Eva's version of "People Get Ready" is to be heard to be believed. The world lost one of the greatest voices when we lost Eva. But we should thank our lucky stars that she was discovered, and we have her music which will live on forever.

Eva Cassidy from Maryland USA 🇺🇸 a folk Jazz blues artist and an amazing guitarist, passed away aged 33 years old from skin cancer, apparently she was a shy person and became more known when covering song Sting had written called (Fields Of Gold) After Eva passed away her parents released all of Eva’s music and now Eva is famous worldwide So sad too loose such an amazing artist, check out Eva’s covers of ( Song bird ) ( Time After Time) (Autumn Leaves) (Fields Of Gold) and many others, also there’s a song mashup featuring Eva Cassidy and Angelina Jordan covering (Field’s Of Gold) which is amazing to , as Eva and Angelina sound so similar on the cover version, great reaction thanks 🙏

The original has mostly been done as hopeful, optimistic. Eva turned it on its head and approached it as someone longing, yearning, almost desperate to find that place. I think it is a masterpiece and actually fits the words better than the original

It is interesting to hear all the elements everyone feels on this performance. For me, Judy sang it in sort of a frustrated but, hopeful way that a teenager thought she wanted something more than what she had in her life only to realize that there is no place like home. Eva's version is completely different. I feel that her version projects feelings of maybe a loss, missing someone, hope at the end of the tunnel and my mind just going into reflection mode of things in my life and some that I love. Seems that there is so much more. This version cuts right to the inner person, heart and soul.

Everything about Eva Cassidy's performance is in service to the song. She never seems like she's showing off her prodigious talent just to call attention to it. She is totally at one with what she is singing - the words, the meaning, the beauty. I can't believe that until a few months ago I'd never heard of her! That's just wrong, but a 75 I'm so grateful that I got to hear this before I go over the rainbow myself.

Eva is magical!
Since Phil introduced me to her a few months ago with this song, and from day 1, she became one of my very favorites.
She is the queen in reinventing a classic and revealing new meanings to the words.
Plus her voice is heavenly and she sings many different genres (blues, folk, jazz, gospel,…). You name it.
Such a loss. But we are blessed nevertheless she was able to leave us quite a few gems that will remain eternal.
She really did these incredible lyrics justice. Just awesome performance.

I am a classic rock kind of guy, but I'm open to lots of different stuff, and Eva is something else. Best female vocalist I've ever heard, she has this way of really evoking an emotional response out of you. She could sing in almost any genre, not just folkie ballad stuff...I grew up in the same area as Eva but unfortunately discovered her too late. She voice is hauntingly beautiful and I love her. I hope you do the deep dive on her songs and see what else you may dig.

Angie I think you would be in tears listening to most songs that Eva sings. She was an incredible interpreter and her voice is unique. Glad you liked and reacted to this best version of a classic. She does just as well with Autumn Leaves, Fields of Gold, People get ready and many more. She slows down the lyrics and music and makes you listen to every word. Great arrangement considering it was done impromptu. Hopefully you'll listen to more of her. She was a treasure gone too soon.

I love to listen to Eva!! I especially love this cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbows”. It ALWAYS makes me cry!!! But I love it! I play this too when I have to put one of my fur babies to sleep. I know they are going to meet me at the edge of the Rainbow Bridge when I go home. She definitely was taken from us too soon!! But she became healthy and whole when she went to Paradise to Rest In Peace. No doubt she is singing in her heavenly voice now. 😢❤
And we must never forget she played the acoustic guitar as well so beautifully. This demanded skill and attention. And she seemed so alone and sad as she deeply moved our hearts. It struck me as a Lament for the vagaries of our lives - asking questions - simple questions - that impact us but have no definitive answers. Yet we must carry on. Thank-you.

There aren't enough people in the World to react enough to make a lost and troubled World realize some souls are more than special and chosen by God to give the true meaning for a song to be written and communicated for His edification. Written in 1939 for the movie THE WIZZARD OF OZ and sung beautifully by the star of the movie Judy Garland. God blessed Eva Cassidy with a rare talent for not only reinterpreting the song at a time shortly before her passing from cancer in 1996. But beyond that, I believe God had another reason for gifting Eva. Because of what is happening in America and around the World in 2023 and 2024, there has been an abundance of reactions to this performance because the World is in a desperate need of being blessed and prepared for what is about to happen because or Prophecies being fulfilled as we live and breath today.
The sign God gave us that he would not destroy mankind again after the Flood of Noah's day was the Rainbow. I believe He is telling us that when Jesus soon returns to bring an End to the Age and escort us to an Eternal Heaven is that it will indeed be SOMEWHERE OVER THAT VERY RAINBOW ! That is how blessed Eva's interpretation of the song is to me. AMEN and AMEN

Hey Rollen! I'd like to recommend Voluntary Slavery and This Matter of Mine by Beardfish. This is a great prog rock band from Sweden. It's kind of like a metal form of 70s Genesis.

I'd love to throw something utterly different, yet no less beautiful, and no less touching, up as a suggestion. The incredible Gurrumul, an Indigenous Australian artist, who we also lost too soon, has a voice unlike any you've heard before. Dr G Yunupingu, (Gurrumul) comes from a family with incredible musical history. Blind from birth, Dr G taught himself to play guitar by touch, & plays upside down to traditional players. He sings in his native languages. His songs "Bayini" (the Sarah Blasko version is far superior to another version available) or "Wiyathul" or frankly any of his songs will blow your mind.

thanks, but on first live listen re eva-type intimate songs, would love to listen with you first to the whole piece front to back uninterrupted and share your full raw emotional response with comment on whole, then re-listen to parts if necessary. we want to see you cry and lose your bearings for 10min just like everyone else.

I get it, and that silent reaction is not what you do -- your reactions are why people come here :) For me, this song by Eva is SO special....SO unique in that it casts a spell and moves almost everyone to tears...I am deeply moved when I see someone so moved by music that they literally well up....that's why I reacted strongly to the interruptions.
