Best rendition ever❤
It is so beautiful
Nice reaction! This recording was done in January 1996. In June of that year Eva was diagnosed with metastasized melanoma and she died in November. She was really only known in the Washington DC area when she passed. Her first solo album, Songbird, was released after her death. It wasn't until two years later, when a couple of DJs in England played her recordings of Over the Rainbow and Fields of Gold on the radio and TV, that she really began to be noticed. Since then, her albums have sold over 10 million copies. I first learned of her in 2000, when NPR included her version of Over the Rainbow in a list of the top 100 recordings of the 20th century. I have loved her ever since. It was only last year that I learned that a friend of hers had recorded this performance at Blues Alley on the night they were recording her live album. As far as I know, the 13 songs on that video are the only full videos we have of her performing live. I am so grateful to get to see her perform.
By the way, Eva's voice could go from razor thin whisper to sky-piercing belt in a second. For some great examples of that, check out Blues in the Night, or Oh, Had I a Golden Thread.
Thanks for reacting to this! This recording brings me to tears every single time I hear it.
Listen to Autumn Leaves, Songbird, Fields of Gold, Danny Boy and Stormy Monday. Actually ALL of her songs are FABULOUS.
Fantastic reaction! You should hear her Autumn Leaves and Stormy Monday. Both are more jazz/blues -- styles she loved.
I'll check it out! Sure I’ll love them too
Tragically, Eva Cassidy passed away, a cancer victim, less than a year after this was filmed. Her version of the Irish classic "Danny Boy" would be a perfect song to do on St Patrick's Day. But be warned; it's even more devastating than this. Next stops:
Eva Cassidy, "Danny Boy"
Vince Gill, "Go Rest High on That Mountain"
Jeff Buckley, "Hallelujah"
This is so sad to hear she passed away , about the reaction to Danny boy, I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you how always watching and leaving comments/ suggestions.🙏😊
Great pick. Thank you.
Glad you like it!☺️
RIP Eva Cassidy, you listen her version of Sting’s ‘Fields Of Gold’.
Just subbed last wk, and you are absolutely killing it with a very fine&eclectic mix of well-done reactions; kudos!!!
Regarding great female performers, here's hoping you get to JoniMitchell at some point... I suggest a live performance of her classic song "California"!
Wow…. Thank you so much for these kind words, it’s really encouraging. I’ll definitely be checking your recommendation as soon as I can.
You wouldnt know it but this was the 2nd night of her gig at Blues Alley and she was fighting a bad head cold. The first night was said to be even better but didnt get recorded.
So sad to hear that, most of all her passing.
Need to watch the nightline documentary on her life. If you knew all about her and what happened you would of ben more emotional. It is if she knew what was going to happen and yes i think she was telling a story and who knows was it about herself, we will never know. She has so many great songs. Try autumn leaves or fields of gold.
I will check out her nightlife documentary, I knew nothing about her, feel so sad knowing that she passed away. I’ll check out more of her songs
It's E-va, not A-va. Rhymes with Diva, which she was not.
Okay . Noted , thanks
You are most welcome.@@shockwavereact
Her name dosen't need defending.
