Jimmy PAGE, who was the guitarist in the yardbirds when they disbanded, Due to contractual obligations Jimmy formed the line-up here as the new yardbirds to fulfil touring commitments. After finishing their tour they were looking for a name for the group. Keith Moon, The drummer from the who said that they would go down like a Lead Zeppelin, In reference to the famous airships and the name stuck
Robert Plant on vocals, Jimmy Page on guitar, John Paul Jones on bass and the late great John Bonham on drums. All masters of their chosen instruments. My favorite band of all time performing arguably the greatest rock song of all time. Thanks for sharing.
And this is why todays "artists" will never match the music of old... no auto tune, no choreography, no lip synching and no dancers just music from the heart..
None of the things you mentioned are unaccomplishable today, the music industry need to start rewarding artists who perform like this instead of hyping what you mentioned, but authenticity is too expensive for labels these days in their opinion...
Stairway is like a "Led Zeppelin Sampler" of all they do: amazing song structure, magnificent instrumentals, light and shade, drama, mystical lyrics, unparalleled artistry. The GOATs of Rock. They have dozens and dozens of remarkable songs....a catalog of diversity and excellence.
Excellent way to describe this great song, and as much as I'm burnt out on hearing it, it still touches my ears with the upmost reverberating musicality of the greatest rock band ever, the artistry continuously amazes, no matter how many thousands of times I've heard this, along with the rest of their catalog. Good reaction btw, don't stop with this song, there's so much more :)
Robert Plant spent much of the '70s answering questions about the lyrics he wrote for "Stairway." When asked why the song was so popular, he said it could be its "abstraction," adding, "Depending on what day it is, I still interpret the song a different way - and I wrote the lyrics." The lyrics take some pretty wild turns, but the beginning of the song is about a woman who accumulates money, only to find out the hard way her life had no meaning and will not get her into heaven. This is the only part Plant would really explain, as he said it was "a woman getting everything she wanted without giving anything back." Robert Plant is a great admirer of all things mystic, the old English legends and lore and the writings of the Celts. He was immersed in the books Magic Arts in Celtic Britain by Lewis Spence and The Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Tolkien inspiration can be heard in the phrase, "In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees," which could be a reference to the smoke rings blown by the wizard Gandalf. There is also a correlation between the lady in the song and the character from the book, Lady Galadriel, the Queen of Elves who lives in the golden forest of Lothlorien. In the book, all that glittered around her was in fact gold, as the leaves of the trees in the forest of Lothlorien were golden. (Songfacts.com)
Great explanation. I've always interpreted it as being about a life of unthinking shallow materialism and greed which can take people over vs something deeper, more thoughtful, true to self, and principled.
No... Good musicians, great imagination. Great band. But definitely not the greatest ever Not even of their own era. But definitely in that impactful group of the great ones. :)
@@ORagnar Lol, I know what you mean. My favourite piece of music will very likely always be The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor (Moonlight) by Beethoven. But Pink Floyd are my favourite band, closely followed by Radiohead. It's difficult to list favourites though!
Please listen to the official recording. This live version is missing some of the lush background instrumentation, and the words are completely understandable. It's an incredible song and in most lists it's the greatest rock song ever made. BTW - Totally enjoy your reactions.
For all of its good points, the studio version also has the shortest guitar solo of the various versions. I have yet to find version that gives the best of both.
My first concert was Led Zeppelin, 1969. Stairway to Heaven is a rock anthem in my books. So many great songs. Check out the Heart cover at the Kennedy Center Honers, the all time best cover of a great song.
Great reaction, even though you didn’t understand you stayed until the end kudos. Led Zeppelin is a blimp that doesn’t float. What you witnessed was what many consider the best guitar solo. If you appreciate great musicianship then you’ll definitely appreciate this band. Keep up the good work.
“Stairway to Heaven” brings to our attention the hard truth that true happiness in life derives not from accumulating material possessions. The song tells a story of a woman who made so much money only to realize, in the end, that her life was meaningless even with all her wealth, and she won’t make it to heaven.
Studio version is a must. Seduction and redemption, The Zeppelin way. Try ALL of their studio recordings, if you’re interested in how we tripped in the Classic Era. And yes, “sometimes to trip is just to fall.” 👈😉
I thoroughly enjoy your channel…and the funny, honest, and genuine nature of reacting! Your Led Zeppelin life isn’t complete until you have checked out “Kashmir”, live from the Celebration Day concert at the O2 in 2007. Those guys were all in their late 50’s / early 60’s then, and it was a rare band appearance since they called it quits around 1980. With the son (Jason) of their late (legendary) drummer, John Bonham on the drums, those guys showed us why they will forever be one of the greatest rock bands of all time. It is soooooo worth your time! Thanks again for what you’re doing…it is truly enjoyable to watch you explore so many new styles of music.
Ya, for decades rock stations, and magazines had this as the best song of all time. And people can say no, but then you say, well what is then? And nothing can match up with it. So it is by default.
You’ve just witnessed the greatest rock band of all time. Legends. Now you have to watch Heart at the Kennedy Center Honors perform this live. ✌🏻❤️from Texas
When zep was formed in the late 60s they was considered the worlds first hardrock super group. The guitar player was in the biggest band at the time called the yardbirds . And zepplen was using the name the new yard birds. But they needed a new name They going to leaning towards the name supergroup they was at a party and they was telling everyone there new name and a drunk the drummer Keith moon from the band the who said that's going go over like a f🤣uking Led Zeppelin. Like the famous zeppelin crash. This is this the most requested song on the radio in history. The vest that the singer is wearing is from a groupie from the night before.. Led zeppelin invented the badboy genre of hardrock. To date they sold over 400 million albums. Zeppelin changed how artists was treated before zeppelin artists only got a small percentage of the money from concert but there very large and scary manger peter grant told the promoters if you want zeppelin you get a small percentage of the concerts and tee shits sales. Zeppelins crowds was so big that the promoters thought a small percentage of zeppelin is still better that nothing.
No. Cream was considered the first rock supergroup. They had enormous influence on musicians of that era. Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne has said in interviews that they wanted to ba a heavier version of Cream.
I couldn't help but smile when you said that you felt something was coming, that it was building up to something!! I thought hang on Lady you have no idea!!
Eleanor, a woman of considerable wealth and stature, had spent her life relentlessly pursuing gold. She was convinced that the shimmering allure of riches was the key to her happiness. Yet, despite her opulence, a sense of fulfilment eluded her. Tales of a mystical stairway, a path to a place of ultimate contentment often referred to as 'heaven', had reached her ears. Intrigued by the prospect of finding what she had been missing, Eleanor sought out this stairway, setting the stage for a journey that would change her life. Eleanor embarked on her journey, leaving behind the trappings of her luxurious life. She was drawn westwards, an inexplicable longing in her spirit guiding her. The west, where the sun sets, symbolised the end of her old life and the beginning of a new journey. It was a journey not of miles but of the mind, a journey that would challenge her deeply ingrained beliefs and values. Her journey led her to a vast, dense forest. With its towering trees and shadowy depths, the forest physically manifested her inner fears and doubts. It represented the deeply ingrained materialistic values, which she now realised were obstacles to her true happiness. The forest was a labyrinth she had to navigate, a test she had to pass to reach her destination. Deep within the forest, Eleanor saw a ring of smoke through the trees. It was elusive, transient, yet she felt an inexplicable connection. It was as if the smoke ring was a message from the spiritual realm, a beacon guiding her towards enlightenment. The sight of the smoke ring, ethereal and fleeting, gave her hope. It was a sign that she was on the right path, which led to the stairway she sought. In the heart of the forest, Eleanor encountered a group of people. They, like her, were seekers, individuals who had embarked on their own journeys in search of the stairway. They were the voices of those who stood looking, individuals who had seen the ring of smoke and had chosen to follow it. Their experiences and wisdom were invaluable to Eleanor. They helped her realise that the key to true happiness was not material wealth but something deeper, something more profound. Guided by the ring of smoke and the wisdom of her fellow seekers, Eleanor finally found the stairway. It was not a physical structure but a metaphorical path of self-discovery and spiritual awakening. It was a path that led not upwards but inwards, a path that would lead her to the 'heaven' she sought. Eleanor began her ascent. With each step, she shed her materialistic values and embraced a new understanding of fulfilment. Each step on the stairway was a stage in her spiritual journey, a step towards enlightenment. The stairway was not a physical challenge but a spiritual one. It was a test of her resolve, her willingness to let go of her old beliefs and embrace a new way of life. At the top of the stairway, Eleanor found 'heaven'. It was not a physical place but a state of enlightenment and inner peace. She realised that the true 'gold' was not material wealth but love, compassion, and spiritual fulfilment. The stairway had led her not to a place but to a new understanding, a new way of life. Eleanor chose to return to her old life, not to resume her old ways, but to share the wisdom she had gained. She realised that the stairway to heaven was not a physical path but a journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth. Everyone could embark on such a journey that led not to a place but to self-discovery.
This concert took place in the summer of 1973 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. I was there (I was only 17 at the time. I'm 66 now). I remember it as if it were yesterday! Me and 3 of my friends drove over from New Jersey and we were stoned most of the concert! LOL! The song compares the illusion of worldly entitlement to the reality of spiritual awakening. ✌✌
Stairway to Heaven is the best known but there is sooo much more to Led Zeppelin. They had many different sounds - Ramble On, When the Levee Breaks, Goin to Califormia, Babe I'm Gonne Leave You, Kashmir, and lots and lots more.
Britt, great reaction by someone new to Led Zeppelin and this song. According to interviews with Jimmy Page (guitar), this song was written by him and Robert Plant (singer) at a cottage in Wales, and it came from a tune that Page was noodling with on the guitar and some influences of mythology and folklore that Plant was reading at the time. Page had in mind a song that has different movements like a classical symphony, and a song that builds in both tempo and volume to a crescendo at the end. The lyrics are mystic and spiritual and a bit vague on purpose. It's more like Plant is trying to convey a series of images than trying to tell a specific story of a specific person. Critics have explained the journey of the song in terms ranging from a psychedelic drug trip, a journey of spiritual awakening, a meditation on death and dying, and many other metaphors. Like poetry, I think that it's fine for the lyrics to mean something to one person, something different to another, and still something different to the author, even if they never come out and explain it. I don't remember ever seeing a quote from Robert Plant directly saying, "OK, this is what Stairway to Heaven means to me, or what I meant when I wrote it..." and I think he has resisted that so that each listener gets to decide that whatever the song says to them is the right meaning for that person. I love your style. Keep it up!
This concert at MSG is also a movie called, The Song Remains The Same. If you liked this even a little bit you will be blown away by the whole show which can very much be a spiritual journey in of itself, plus you have some of the best music and performances by some of the best artists of all time. Turn the lights off, turn it up as loud as possible, and enjoy.
That's the beauty of Zeppelin. The art, the music, the mysticism, the mystery is what gives us the audience a magical ride of our lives. Four pillars, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, John Paul Jones are masters of their craft. This concert took place at MSG in the 70s rocked the audience real hard. I watched this back on VH1 Classic and I spent 3 hours or so without ever changing the channel. Stairway to Heaven is such a timeless legendary masterpiece and eons from now people will have to listen to this story a tale that has become iconic of all time.
robert plant is one of the top singers from england he is i think about 73 now and still sings actually he lives about 3 miles from were i live in worcestershire england and can often be seen just walkin around the local town and allways very polite and says hello he does alot of charitable things locally and yes he still has his famous long locks ive spoke to him many times as im in my late 60s you should check out if i were a carpenter and hangman by him great songs
Listening to music is so individual the story is never set in stone, my experience of Led Zeppelin IV was from a very young age of 13, I was walking home and saw a very beat up old cassette tape on the sidewalk with no labels on it, so I took it home and played it on my dads stereo system which was audio file state of the art at the time, it sounded AMAZING!
Have you ever listened to Led Zepplin with headphones on and really felt the "stereo" effect? Where the sound bounces back and fourth between your ears. Another one to try is by the cars, "moving in stereo"
My favorite band ever...LZ. Bought my first LZ album in 1973 at 13 yo followed by quadriphonic 8 track tape for my quad stereo system. First saw them perform in concert in 1976 a couple weeks b4 my 17th birthday. They were THE hard rock band at the time and still considered one of the greatest ever. They discontinued being a band much too soon in the early 80s with the death of their beast of a drummer, John Bonham, still considered one of the greatest rock drummers ever. Each of their 4 members considered one of the greatest ever in their respective roles. They changed the nature of how rock music was produced and recorded to sell albums and concerts versus hit singles for the charts. FM radio took over from AM to allow for late night playing of albums and longer songs considered much too long for daytime playing and ad space. Enjoy seeing younger generations discovering their innovative and iconic music. Mark
The guitar is called double neck. This was voted by rolling stone magazine and guitar magazine as the number one song of all time. You really should check out ," Since I Been Loving You" live in Madison square garden 1973.. probably the best best live performance ever caught on tape.younger people don't understand in 1973 there was no auto tune or anything like that live maybe echo or layering in the studio but not live it's just the microphone guitar bass and drums..and tremendous talent
Led Zeppelin was a play on the Zeppelin that burst into flames on 6th May 1937 called the Hindenburg. Jimmy said that the band would go down like the Hindenburg never knowing that they would have the impact on music that they have had, they are still regarded as rock gods. The band 1000's of bands and artists today call their inspiration. I LOVE THEM!!
I saw them once in my life I was very young and for me this song one of my top 5 favorite never get tired of earring it with also in my top 5 the song called Kashmir from Led Zeppelin 🥰👌
This song is near the top or at the top of every list of greatest rock songs ever written and I don't even think it is necessarily their best song. A simply iconic band. Another great reaction. I've watched many of your various reactions at this point, but it only takes that first one to be hooked and know why your channel is growing so quickly. Keep going. Peace✌️
Completely agree, this is not their best song (imho). That accolade belongs to Kashmir, I believe. However this and Kashmir are very similar in that they are slightly surreal ramblings of vocals backed by incredible musicianship.
When I was about 14, I got my hands on my dad's copy of Led Zeppelin IV on vinyl. I was lucky enough to hear "Stairway" for the first time on vinyl. I played it over and over...probably 20 times... this was around 1995.
" I feel like something is brewing but I am not sure..." Fer sure there was. The whole song changes tempo and rocks out with a great guitar solo. Yes indeed!
Agree with most everyone's comments, "Kashmir " is a must to listen to. Heart is another band to react to, "Crazy on you","Magic Man", and their tribute to Led Zeppelin. You will not be disappointed. Love your "reactions".
Now you must do Led Zeppelin "Kashmir" live at Celebration Day Concert. But you really need to be using headphones to get best listening experience. 10x better for all your reactions
Led Zeppelin is one of the best rock bands .there music is well rounded to blues ballad and pure rock and roll.stairway to heaven is about the paths you take in life and temptation in life.yes you can change your life for the better.
Thanks for your reaction--no need to apologize because you look at the screen--it's YOUR channel, your video, you do what you want to do. To answer your question quickly: Robert Plant (singer), Jimmy Page (guitarist), John Paul Jones (bass, piano & any instrument as needed), John Bonham (drummer--died in 1980). You can also watch the band Heart doing this song at the Kennedy Center (with members of Led Zeppelin watching them in the audience--with their dead drummer's son playing with Heart). Amazing version also. This song was a masterpiece that will stay forever in music--inspirational for several generations to come. Have a nice day.
So grateful to have raised my children in this Era. I must say Rock n Roll was the reason everyone had perms back then 😁 It is so nice to watch you embrace real Rock
Led Zeppelin is one of the best EVERRR if you've ever listened to Heart check them out honoring them at Kennedy honors WOWWWW👏👏👏 But Heart... those women as soon as I learn how to play the guitar electric guitar I want to learn barracuda💚💚💚💚💚 Thank you for your reactions.
You got it. It's a spiritual song. You come through with true understanding as always. IMHO this song is way deeper than what most folks get, but that's prolly cuz I have had experiences that most folks haven't had, and if you haven't lived it there is no way to explain it. ALL the lyrics are rich with meaning, but to me two of the key phrases are "Cuz ya know sometimes words have two meanings," and "sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven." Cuz there is a spiritual theme to life, and everything that happens has multiple layers of meaning. To paraphrase a Zen Buddhist saying: This song is not the moon, it's just a finger pointing to the moon. If you want the moon, you need to follow the fingers until you see it for yourself. Namaste and happy trails. 😉
Led Zeppelin is probably one…if not the greatest rock band ever……Jimmy Paige founded the band in England in the late 1960s and was in the top 5 electric guitarists in rock history….Robert Plant was the lead singer….known for his unique voice and high pitch vocals and famous for his outfit and stage presence….not to mention his hair….John Bonham was their drummer…..one of the top three rocker drummers to have played….played to packed arenas and venues…..every album produced was a hit…..I attended their concert inTampa Florida in the early 70s….outdoor football arena…60,000 plus in attendance. Dominated the rock scene from 1969 to 1975. Among many classic songs they produced and sang….Stairway to Heaven was a classic….especially the guitar solo. Jimmy Pige and Robert Plant are still with us today. Hope this helps.
You know their is a time in your life when you get that you get to leave school early, thier is a time that special person makes you feel like you're on a cloud and then thier is Led Zeppelin!!!
12-string acoustic guitars are perfect for adding depth and sparkle to your strumming patterns, particularly on big open chords. They also come alive when you experiment with open tunings. The most obvious, positive to having a 12-string guitar is that they have a rich, beautiful sound that you will never get from a traditional guitar. With 12 strings, you get a fuller effect that can transform a song from just about any genre into something special.
You are down an amazing rabbit hole now. Do yourself a big favor, and listen to every Led Zeppelin song in order, album by album. Straight up best way to experience the greatest band that ever was.
The lyrics in this song of “ if there’s a bustle in your hedgerow” are lyrics that just crack me up every time I hear them. I’m 63, a new fan of LZ of a couple months. My husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I honestly answered a poster on Plant and his stomach” in this era. I’m a grandmother, I’m not going to drool like I would have then but I damn sure can appreciate looking. Plant is a wonderful front man. Knows how to tease, but just enough where. It’s not blatant. Interviews of back then and now show him to be a very humble, generous, appreciative, walking encyclopedia of music and enjoys music as much as we do. The lyrics probably won’t help, as he says they wrote it as young 20 year olds, in a time period 50 years ago and it is what it is. Nothing I’ve ever thought, lyrically anyway. Musically a masterpiece! As his Plant! I’m not even an electric guitar nut but my God, you have to appreciate the talent.
So fun to watch you react to a song that has meant so much to me for so many years. Keep listening and reading the lyrics and " the truth will come to you at large". Your meaning will be revealed!
Thus is in many people's opinion the greatest song of all time. For many years it was number 1 on the top 100 count downs as well as the most requested songs of all time. It may have changed now. But it is a timeless classic
Keep expanding your knowledge of brilliant rock bands, Lead Zeppelin. . Name came about, thinking how much power it would take to lift a Zeppelin air ship made of lead . . Lead Zeppelin a very powerful band . . 👍👍
I'm assuming that that sped up part while you were reading lyrics is intentional and if so man that is incredibly artistic and well done. And then you drop out of that high-speed right near the end of reading the lyrics. Oh my, that is really well done. Love it.
Years later Robert Plant said he wasn't sure what the lyrics meant, and he wrote them. Check out Since I've Been Loving You from the same concert if you like bluesy rock.
Howdy! Joel in tucson here. I've stated in one other post tonight that I'm a hard rocker BOOMER / M-68. This means that I was in high school in Arizona from 1969-1973. Believe me......THIS TUNE was one of THE PRIME ROCK ANTHEMS of my school years. I saw 'em live in a big arena show in '72. I think you'd appreciate this song much much more if you had the non-live main album recording of it. This version sounds tinny.....and it won't translate the power and the badass hard-driving instrumentation like the main version that we all listened to back in the day. This tune STILL holds up big time. ALLRIGHT: as per your request....here's how their band's name came about. The main players in this band (they're all British) were sitting around one afternooon in a pub in the UK and were trying to come up with names for their new band. One guy suggested something, they weren't impressed and one of 'em said...."Yeah.....that name'll go over like a "lead balloon"....in otherwords....it'll fail bigtime. They all laughed at this and soon they spelled their new name as LED Zeppelin. Hokey-dokey? True story. Seriously.....this version is far too tinny sounding, Britt. Get the better cut and you might just dig it like we all did so long ago.....all the way thru today. God Bless joel in tucson
The name of the band come from when they were just starting out someone told them they would go down like a Led Zeppelin, they liked the name and used it. But now that you’ve heard that you should check out Hart version doing their tribute at the Kennedy center, it’s amazing.
As far as I know, the boss of their first label told them, if they start their tour in east Europe (think, Czech Republic), they will go down like a led (lead) zeppelin. But they made their way up to Olymp of Rock History!!!
Honestly the recorded studio album version is way better for a "1st time hearing" in my humble opinion. There are so many beautiful details in the music which aren´t there in the life performance. That doesn´t mean that life performance was bad, not at all ..just to be clear.. BUT..However.. my point is ...it is the 70ties and the life sound quality based on 70ties sound technology wasn´t the best and in combination with 70ties video recording technology the sound becomes even worse and is therefore "a bit rough to listen" to say it politely (meaning the live audience there experienced a better sound than the video watcher do) while the studio recording sound is crystal clear and totally balanced at its finest.
@@brittreacts However when you listen to "Pink Floyd-Comfortably Numb-PULSE".....it MUST be at that spectacular PULSE Concert in London and it is NOT copyrighted so we can ALL see the video as the combination of Music and Lights is one of the greatest ever though if you are going to fade it then best NOT yo show it, as missing out on the kaleidoscope of colours for your ever-growing audience will be too frustrating:)
The name of the band came from a comment that i believe pete townsend of the who made when asked how he thought the band would do he answered “ they will drop like a lead zeppelin “ , so they took it as their name…the Greatest Rock Band to EVER EXIST all modern rock songs contain some part of their music….ALL OF THEM
Their name came from a comment made by the late Keith Moon, drummer for The Who, who said their band's success would sink like a lead balloon. Their answer to his criticism was to take the name LED ZEPPELIN, and their success has been, and still is monumental!
The name. Jimmy Page (guitarist) had formed the band and they still needed a name. Keith Moon, drummer for The Who, had said the new band would go down like a lead balloon. Zeppelin was the name given to the very large blimps used by the Germans during WWII. The Hindenburg was a Zeppelin. Based on Moon's quote Page came up with the name Led Zeppelin and the rest is Rock history. This is a band who's catalog is well worth your diving into. I suggest you get the Led out now that your journey has begun and hear what all they have to offer!
The meaning was from when they first started out they played a gig in England and “it went over like a lead balloon “according to plant. The mighty Zepp rock on
I'm glad you reacted to this version as it is the best version of the song. And yes, the guitar solo was 3 minutes long which is longer than most songs. Welcome to the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole. On another note (pun intended), you are putting out a lot of content. That's great for us but I hope you don't burn out.
Jimmy page the guitar player was the first he had Gibson guitar's to build that double neck guitar just for this concert and this song. Britt people has been trying to figure out the meaning of this song for over 50 years. Im going to tick off some people I am a zeppelin expert my band covered the whole catalog at one point. This is nowhere close to the best song. Every song they did was a masterpiece.thats why they sold 400 + million albums not records but albums.but you have "whole lotta love" "dazed and confused " "when the levee breaks" "trampled under foot" just to name a few of there vast catalog these are more blues rock that show there true talents. 🤘☮
I agree with those who suggest listening to the original studio version in order to get a sense of the enormity of the song. In the history of recorded music, there really wasn't anything quite like it before in the way it was composed, performed and recorded. There are many more layers of instrumentation in the studio recording, so you get a better sense of how the song builds from a quiet, almost Renaissance-era bard tune, into a more folksy vibe, then with some jazzy drums, then to a wild rock crescendo, then comes full circle and ends in a whisper. Zeppelin was an incredible improvisational group live, but they had to be because many of their studio recordings simply had too many layers of instruments for 4 people to reproduce. When it comes to Led Zeppelin, my advice is to always listen to the original studio recording first, then find a live version. Sometimes they're almost entirely different, but it's fun to compare.
Name came from The Who's Keith Moon of when he heard of the line-up said ''You'll go down like a Led Zeppelin''' They were originally 'The New Yardbirds' as the original Yardbirds had disbanded leaving Jimmy without a band but contractual gigs to fulfil, so assembled the New Yardbirds to honour the commitments. He already knew John Paul Jones through their session work (check out early kinks stuff and you'll hear Jimmy on guitar). He also did the haunting into to Joe Cockers 'With a little help from my g=friends' plus lots more.
It's great seeing younger people hear these songs for the first time. Hopefully songs like this inspire more bands to get together. Today's music is just crap and way to digital.
You have to see the Heart performance at the Kennedy Center honoring Led Zeppelin. It is amazing. This guitar solo in this concert is long. Listen to the recording to appreciate the song.
Led Zeppelin is Led Zeppelin. No one else comes that close. They are the first of the hard rock groups and the hardest of them all. But they also play the blues, acoustic, exotic (Kashmir), medieval style (Gallows Pole), and so on. They can't really be judged for just one style. They've played many different styles and experimented with different instruments and different ways to play their own (Jimmy Page used a violin bow on his guitar for a number of songs). Their third album contains their most eclectic collection of songs. If you want to read about the history of Led Zeppelin, read "The Hammer Of The Gods" by Stephen Davis. It covers the highs and the lows, the light and the DARK of Led Zeppelin.

Robert Plant spent much of the '70s answering questions about the lyrics he wrote for "Stairway." When asked why the song was so popular, he said it could be its "abstraction," adding, "Depending on what day it is, I still interpret the song a different way - and I wrote the lyrics."
The lyrics take some pretty wild turns, but the beginning of the song is about a woman who accumulates money, only to find out the hard way her life had no meaning and will not get her into heaven. This is the only part Plant would really explain, as he said it was "a woman getting everything she wanted without giving anything back."
Robert Plant is a great admirer of all things mystic, the old English legends and lore and the writings of the Celts.

Thank you for this!
Dude amazing answer!
Great explanation. I've always interpreted it as being about a life of unthinking shallow materialism and greed which can take people over vs something deeper, more thoughtful, true to self, and principled.
LZ were big ole Tolkien nerds! Heartbreaker and Misty Mountain Hop are two obvious examples too.
@@nkonig1 The Tolkien fan was Robert Plant, but then he was the lyric writer for LZ
"Yes there are two paths you go on, but in the long run, but there's still time to change the road you're on". Genius.
PLEASE do more Zeppelin!!! You will never be disappointed!
Yes, their first album.
Greatest band there ever was!! You are looking at the 4 greatest musicians to ever come together!
I like Led Zeppelin a lot, but in my opinion, it’s still The Beatles, and then everyone else.
No... Good musicians, great imagination. Great band. But definitely not the greatest ever Not even of their own era. But definitely in that impactful group of the great ones. :)
Well, there is Mozart and Beethoven... but these guys are fantastic. 4.o0
Heart sang it better❤
Please listen to the official recording. This live version is missing some of the lush background instrumentation, and the words are completely understandable. It's an incredible song and in most lists it's the greatest rock song ever made. BTW - Totally enjoy your reactions.
I concur.
I agree, the audio was terrible in this video
For all of its good points, the studio version also has the shortest guitar solo of the various versions. I have yet to find version that gives the best of both.
Yeah, what a terrible choice for a first exposure to LZ! Horrible audio quality!
Agree.
Thanks again for what you’re doing…it is truly enjoyable to watch you explore so many new styles of music.
this was voted as the best rock song ever. i've always liked the jam at the end the most...powerful stuff here
Ya, for decades rock stations, and magazines had this as the best song of all time. And people can say no, but then you say, well what is then? And nothing can match up with it. So it is by default.
i remember when clapton's 'layla' knocked it off for a year, i think. i wasn't happy.
I thought hang on Lady you have no idea!!
the thing about Zeppelin is it's not just a lyrical journey but an instrumental one as well, that is what makes this band what it is.
@Arthur Engle Yup, If I remember correctly!
Amazing how with time we cant remember our name but no every word every beat of our music and when we heard it lol
@@brandicarson5107 So true
Stairway to Heaven is the best known but there is sooo much more to Led Zeppelin. They had many different sounds - Ramble On, When the Levee Breaks, Goin to Califormia, Babe I'm Gonne Leave You, Kashmir, and lots and lots more.
Proof again ! That Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band ever !
Keep it up!
Nice to see young kids watching this, zeppelin had 4 awesome musicians.cant duplicate this stuff!
#1 rock n roll song of all time. On New Years countdown every year it always won throughout 70s 80s and 90s
robert plant is one of the top singers from england he is i think about 73 now and still sings actually he lives about 3 miles from were i live in worcestershire england and can often be seen just walkin around the local town and allways very polite and says hello he does alot of charitable things locally and yes he still has his famous long locks ive spoke to him many times as im in my late 60s you should check out if i were a carpenter and hangman by him great songs
Greatest song in history of any genra #2 Kashmir by led zeppelin
Have you ever listened to Led Zepplin with headphones on and really felt the "stereo" effect? Where the sound bounces back and fourth between your ears. Another one to try is by the cars, "moving in stereo"
"Whole Lotta Love" gives GREAT stereo effect. ;)
Mark
Believe you have your dates wrong LZ never toured jn 1976 They officially disbanded in 1980 of December
Im so glad I was born in the early 70s and grew up on this music!!
I saw them once in my life I was very young and for me this song one of my top 5 favorite never get tired of earring it with also in my top 5 the song called Kashmir from Led Zeppelin 🥰👌
Led Zeppelin is one of the truly great Classic Rock groups..you might also want to check out The Immigrant Song and Kashmir by them!
led zepplin is the greatest rock band that ever step foot into our world im glad u enjoying it
This song is near the top or at the top of every list of greatest rock songs ever written and I don't even think it is necessarily their best song.
Helluva way to start your Zeppelin journey! Oh there is something brewing alright. Gotta luv Zeppelin.
When I was about 14, I got my hands on my dad's copy of Led Zeppelin IV on vinyl. I was lucky enough to hear "Stairway" for the first time on vinyl. I played it over and over...probably 20 times... this was around 1995.
Best Rock Band Ever, while I love live concerts, you owe it to yourself to listen to the studio version of one of the greatest songs ever
My son fell in love with Led Zeppelin. That’s why he learned to play guitar! 🔥❤️👵🏼☮️
I was living in the Bay Area when most of these songs dropped, 75 to 85. What a good time. The hits keep coming from EVERYONE !.😎
This song is pure poetry. The lyrics are VERY important.
You are down an amazing rabbit hole now. Do yourself a big favor, and listen to every Led Zeppelin song in order, album by album. Straight up best way to experience the greatest band that ever was.
Another Led Zeppelin reaction you must do is from 1969 Live on Danish television performing "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave", it is awesome.
Yes indeed. The piper will lead us to reason ☯️☮️
I remember watching them play this live in concert back in the 70s and it was amazing.
1 of my All time best Concerts I ever went too at the Capital CTRN was Led Zeppelin . As a young man
So fun to watch you react to a song that has meant so much to me for so many years. Keep listening and reading the lyrics and " the truth will come to you at large". Your meaning will be revealed!
Better to listen the album version with headphones too ✋
Thus is in many people's opinion the greatest song of all time. For many years it was number 1 on the top 100 count downs as well as the most requested songs of all time. It may have changed now. But it is a timeless classic
Keep expanding your knowledge of brilliant rock bands, Lead Zeppelin. . Name came about, thinking how much power it would take to lift a Zeppelin air ship made of lead . . Lead Zeppelin a very powerful band . . 👍👍
This song is a classic. I have loved it since it was released in 1971. they came from London UK. Robert plant was a great singer.
It was a good time listing to this music when it was new.
I'm assuming that that sped up part while you were reading lyrics is intentional and if so man that is incredibly artistic and well done. And then you drop out of that high-speed right near the end of reading the lyrics. Oh my, that is really well done. Love it.
2 of the best bands that started out in the 1960s were Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Check out HEART’s Stairway to Heaven LIVE tribute to Zeppelin.
Noted!
Agree with your statement
@@brittreacts However when you listen to "Pink Floyd-Comfortably Numb-PULSE".....it MUST be at that spectacular PULSE Concert in London and it is NOT copyrighted so we can ALL see the video as the combination of Music and Lights is one of the greatest ever though if you are going to fade it then best NOT yo show it, as missing out on the kaleidoscope of colours for your ever-growing audience will be too frustrating:)

Britt, love your channel! Led Zeppelin is considered the GREATEST classic Rock Band of all Time!!! Thanks for sharing your reactions!
Led Zeppelin is arguably the best rock band of all time
Keyboards by John Paul Jones, sounds like a flute. He also played the bass to this song with foot pedals.
Just an incredible band.
The greatest guitarist ever is named Jimmy. It is subjective wether his last name is Page or Hendrix. But, it is a fact his name is Jimmy.
The imagery of Kashmir from Led Zepplin is a good one to react to.
Possibly the best group to walk on the earth period
Greatest song, arguably, recorded. Greatest bands ever!!!
You’re never the same after hearing Zeppelin
Yes, please. Listen to more Led.
You MUST listen to the officially recorded version of this song.
Love this, my favorite band.
What you're watching is one of the greatest set of musicians below Queen. The drummer, John Bonham, was the best ever RIP.
Oh...So glad you found Zepplin Young Lady....Enjoy your journey....🙂
