My favorite lyric is " there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on," a lyric had never hit me that hard, had goosebumps and it made me sit back and think for awhile
I remember my first time so vividly. End of a swing shift at Andersen Air Force Base in 1972. Co-worker with a great car stereo asked if I'd ever heard it and then convinced me to sit in his car, even though I badly wanted to get home. 8 Track, front and back speakers. Part of who I am.
I think you & I can agree that this song belongs in the pantheon of greatest rock songs, but allow me to make a suggestion: perhaps you may not have heard a piece of MODERN classical music: George Gershwin's 1930s masterpiece, RHAPSODY IN BLUE... I don't assert that it's better than 'Stairway', but I think that in its own way, it reaches the same heights of perfection! Anyway, be well...!
It’s definitely in the conversation. Bohemian Rhapsody is also there, Don’t Stop Believin’, Time by Pink Floyd… and if you prefer going more into a Metal style, there’s Holy Diver by Dio, Shogun by Trivium, Master of Puppets by Metallica. And those are just the genres I primarily listen to.
I was just starting high school with this album released. While there were some other insanely great releases back during that time, I played this album to death. It was also one of the most incredible releases to listen through headphones, along with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Thx for a great review.
I agree you need to watch Heart perform Stairway. To Heaven at the Kennedy Center honors honoring Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant asked Jason Bonham who is John Bonham’s son to join them in his dad’s spot. Jason said he had a previous commitment so he couldn’t join them. Jason is playing the drums for Heart in their tribute. m.ua-cam.com/video/LFxOaDeJmXk/v-deo.html
I was fortunate enough to have seen them live several times in the 70's. You need to see their live version from MSG, you'll love the song even more. I love seeing a new generation appreciate the music that I grew up on. Stay blessed, and keep rocking.
Your reactions are so organic and authentic it's just wonderful to watch and experience. To understand this song you have to expand your perceptions to things you've never thought about.
Devin - just subbed 10/27/21 8:40pm California time - TO YOUR CREDIT!!! You did NOT ONCE PAUSE THE MUSIC - THANK YOU!!!!! You showed respect to the entirety of the song!!!! MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!
Thanks for adding some spice and goodness to this review! Coffee for you dear Devin. I'm 65 and remember this song first come out and listen to it a lot. As a matter of fact we even have a friend we call 'The Piper' because of this piece. God bless you and all family from the heart. Give the dogs a hug from here.
Yes please!!! Live Earle’s Court! Also how Many More Times live 1967 Danmark Radio. They had been together less than 6 months and it was one of their first live shows. It’s unfreakingbelievable!!!
Dude EVERYTIME the guitar kicks in… it’s beautiful seeing peoples reactions like yours. I miss legit bands. Hope up coming gens go back to soul writing lyrics and instrument playing.
Oh man you're gonna love exploring Led Zepp's catalogue. I'd suggest checking out The Battle of Evermore, it's a bit underappreciated but in my opinion it's one of their best. Also, I loved your take on the message of the song and your testimony. Keep it up my man!
Devin, You reacted to Dazed and Confused and When the levee breaks from Led Zep. about a year and a half ago.. At the time.. you were blown away.. Please go back to reacting Led Zep. The rabbit hole on this group is deep... They were one of the greatest , if not the best, rock bands of all time. Every metal, hard rock band today have there D.N.A. in them. Almost every rapper has borrowed there sound and beat.. Sherrel below recommended In My Time of Dying.. she is spot on.. to show you there power... in 2007, after 27 years after there break up. They did a one off concert at the O2 in London... when tickets were announced for sale.. over 20 million request in the first 2 weeks.. breaking all records and shutting down most of all the ticket centers world wide. Take the time.. you will not regret. Thanks for you time.
Devin, this song is full of metaphors about redemption and salvation. Start with this sign that has two meanings, her name faith and the act of faith. All that glitters is gold is the streets of heaven. Looking to the west, crying for leaving, crying for your old life because the temples are in the East. You get the drift. No rock band is going to admit to writing a song about salvation, especially in the 1970's.
Devin, Of course there’s always the version by Heart. They performed the song in front of them at the Kennedy Center honors! They do that every year for people in the arts. The year that Led Zeppelin was honored, President Obama was there. You’d be a miss if you didn’t react to that version! 😊
I commented earlier on the Procul Harem video and mentioned Jeff Beck was ex Yardbirds as was Jimmy Page. Also Eric Clapton was in the Yardbirds. I saw them on stage here in Cambridge; not sure which one of the three mentioned was playing lead guitar then. Brilliant group. Excellent reactions Devin and appreciate your Christian input; love hearing people who are keen to openly profess their faith in Christ. Bless you 🙏😊
Love your Devin Reacts Classic Channel Gibby, you are definitely playing my favorites. I tried to play this on the guitar when I was growing up, of course my first attempt was like everyone else Deep Purple Smoke on the Water. Shout out to Irish Roots, me to Brother! This is a treasured Classic, Stairway to Heaven! Led Zeppelin! No body has Lyrics like this anymore! Deep! Raw Talent! I loved your reactions as you watched the song develop, its funny watching the music school you on the Classics! Legendary is an understatement!
The song Is deep and a classic rock musical gem. It is a human view on IMO a deeper look into our souls be it right or wrong. We are what God has made. This song represents our emotion and outlook on what we want or believe what we want. But without God this song wouldn’t be possible. Great song musically and lyrically. Human expression here is at a very high level. This is a song most can enjoy for so many reasons.
Awesome reaction! Yeah, check out those lyrics. I love the way the intensified that song...getting more and more epic and then that end! Wow! Led Zeppelin are legendary, period. End of story.
Whenever we try to play music, we're always told how the bass plays off drums This song demonstrates this to a tee / of course Robert & jimmy bring it ALL TOGETHER 🎉🎉🎉
They sang this song as a message to connect with the maker of all. People take advantage of God love and patience. The time will come when all will have made the choice to want and accept God offer or refuse. No one is force to accepted. Love pleads for all to want and accept. It never forces.
I loved watching you react to hearing that for the first time!!!! GO AHEAD PREACH..... go down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole. its deep..... "In my time of dying" "10 years gone" "WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "SINCE I BEEN LOVING YOU" as well................
This is one you want to see live too they take it to the next level on stage Try this at the 73 concert at MSG it was them at there best While you there try Since i Been Loving You
Loved your reaction. Frankly, I was surprised that you had never really heard this before. That's what made it so enjoyable watching you react to the different segments of the song. Highly recommend, as someone else did below, is to watch Heart do a fantastic performance of "Stairway to Heaven" Live at Lincoln Center Honors, where Heart covered this in front of Led Zeppelin, as well as the President of the United States.
Maybe later you must watch the LED ZEPPELIN tribute at the Kennedy center A band called HEART they performed with this song truly outstanding performance, had me in tears and you’ll see why….🎼🎶🎤🙏🏼🤘🏼been zep fan sine I was 11 I’m now 59…..
Belgium ist watching your work, and appreciates it very much. Keep up you analysis, and your fresh view is a treat to us old hounds who experienced these guys live on stage in the 70's, when we were in our early twenties. Good job BRO!
Such a beautiful song....I too, am a Celtic grl and love that Celtic sound, For a real treat try "The Voice" by the Celtic Women...I think it will send the soul to flight...Zeppelins vocals are just amazing, Oh just melt into that jam, lovin it...Thanks Devin, Blessings
Devin, give "Travelling Riverside Blues, " "the Immigrant Song," and (my fave) "In the Evening" a listen! For solo Robert Plant, I suggest "Tall Cool One" and "Burning Down One Side."
I grew up with this song as one of my favorites. I always thought of it as laughing and feeling sorry for those shallow and entitled people who just can't grasp what life is all about. And it sure aint about money.
Same as everyone else is saying you MUST do the live from Madison Square Gardens! It's amazing and worth it even though you did this one! My favorites are Black Dog and Kashmir!
You have to understand, back in the 70s, we as teenagers partied by getting together and smoking a joint and listened to this music. Marijuana back then was mild and chilling. We just had our friends, good music and love.
Great reaction! for 26 yrs, your wiser than many 60 yr olds I know. Love that someone understands the true meaning of love thy neighbor and help those who are in need, as for the lord of the rings, I've always enjoyed the books more than the movies. Recommend Led Zep's "Since I've been lovin you" studio version. Live is ok, but by then Robert had lost his bluesy voice
You really should have listened and watched this LIVE at Madison Square Garden. What an unforgettable experience. Review the Live version at MSG. Omg!!! Black Dog is another and finally A Whole Lot of Love the official music video. Those are the highest reviewed songs. Their whole catelog is flawless. Those 3 you HAVE to review!
Immigrant song is another one by led zeppelin that was heavily influenced by lord of the rings. And if you've seen Thor Ragnarok you've heard it, they basically made it his theme song in that movie.
This is one of those songs I’d give everything to hear for the first time again. It’s an experience lol
I’ve heard this song a million times and i still get chills listening to that guitar solo

Greatest rock song of all time-I was almost in shock when I first heard this.
Best (of many) reactions to this song I have watched. You said “buckle up” at just the right time. You felt something special coming.
right before the solo, that was great
"Achilles Last Stand" is one of Led Zeppelin's finest and underrated songs. You should give this a review.
This song is so Iconic that if someone tries to play it in a guitar store they will stop them.

Heart plays this song at an Honors Award for Led Zeppelin, John Bonhams son plays drums for the performance.
