The lead singer, David Gilmour, is one of the finest guitarists who ever lived. He’s never done fast, flashy solos much, but in his hands that guitar is like a living thing, that can cry and moan and sing. He’s amazing.
When I was 17. my girlfriend was killed in a car accident. after the funeral I came out to my car by myself, sat there crying and turned on the radio, This was playing, I vowed from that day forward I would never forget her, and every time I hear this song I remember Teresa. Im now 61yrs old and I can still see her face. forever 17 ): Wish you were here.
Pink Floyd are one of the most iconic bands ever. They take you on a journey . Their sound was unique and is timeless. This song remembers their great friend and colleague Syd Barrett who sadly passed away. However we can all relate to this song as we remember our own loved ones who are no longer here.
You missed the point of the song. It wasn't written because he passed away. He was lost to them due to mental illness and drug abuse while he was still alive. That's why he left the band. The song was written and released when he was still alive.
Roger Waters has said the song is actually about him and the band because after the success of Dark Side of the Moon things could never be the same. Shine on Your Crazy Diamond was more about Syd.
This was in 1994. I saw them in concert on this tour, and it was most amazing concert I've ever seen! It was like a religious experience. They are legendary, and this was their final tour. Wish You Were Here was about their founding member, Syd Barrett, who left the band back on late 60s due to some serious mental issues exacerbated by his heavy use of LSD.
There aren't many groups who put on such a stage show as Pink Floyd. One of the things I really liked about them is that they were not afraid to use dissonant intros with some of their songs, they act almost like a mental palette cleanser to give the audience a clean slate for the next epic song to come.
This is the one and only David Gilmore! And this recording is 30 years old from one of the most epic concerts ever pulled off. Other must sees from this concert: Comfortably Numb and High Hopes (at least)! PS: and some say the second guitar solo of Comfortably numb of the Pulse Concerts is the best guitar solo ever played on this planet. (And I tend to agree!)
One of my favourite songs of all time. When my father died suddenly, my brother would sit in his room and play this song and I would sit outside his door and listen along. I knew he wanted to be alone but I wanted to connect and felt like I was connecting with him through this song. 30 years later, I still don't know if he knew I was just on the other side of the door, feeling it with him.
I was blessed to have seen them on this tour, and on their previous tours dating back to the late 80's Incredible to see what they were able to achieve with their light show, bearing in mind that this was filmed in 94. Hard to believe that it's been almost thirty years.
The lyrics are deep as well; the original founder of the band had mental health issues, left the band and disappeared from their lives. The entire album is conceptually about Syd Barrett, specifically "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," and the challenges of the music industry ("Have a Cigar"). "Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?" - Crazy good. (Barrett actually appeared during the sessions for the album, and they didn't fully recognize him. I think he thought he was still in the group. It's a sad story, but the group went on to greater heights under Roger Waters/Dave Gilmour)
I seriously recommend listening to entire Pink Floyd albums non-stop. They are more of a continuous song broken up into parts. They all tell a story. They are an amazing experience to behold. Just play it with headphones on letting your mind wander.
Watching these reactions brings me back to that life changing day in '94 in Earl's Court ... every single time - which is partly why I love them so much. Another reason is watching a younger generation explore the music of my youth and appreciate the artistry in it. Love it!
The love of my life passed away in 2019 at 45 years old. He was a man with many demons & a kind heart. It was often difficult to know which was going to win. This song has always been one of my all-time favorites but it has a deeper meaning now.
This song, this album, this group have been discovered, loved and passed down generation to generation like a pearl of great price. I have loved them since I was in my early teens when my big brother played this album in his car for me. My all time favorate band.
Pink Floyd is one of the few bands where they weren't trying to get you to tap your feet or bob your head to the beat . It's more about listening and taking it all in .
According to Roger Waters (in the documentary about the making of the album Wish You Were Here), who wrote the lyrics, this song is about activism. The "here" in Wish You Were Here is not a place, but a state of mind. He didn't share this with David Gilmour, and David always sang this song as if he were singing it to Syd. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is about Syd, though. Think of activism, and the lines "Did you exchange/a walk-on part in the war/for a lead role in a cage" (among other lines) make a lot more sense.
In Pink Floyd fashion they use sound effects in the intro. With the studio version you can really tell that it begins with playing through a radio. David Gilmore is not just singing and playing guitar but singing a "duet" with his guitar. It is another song inspired by the loss of Syd Barrett, one of their founding members.
Exactly: “ Running over the same old ground, but have we found the same o’l fears. Wish you were here”. Lyrics written for us we didn’t know we needed to hear
Pink Floyd puts you in the mood they want you in for every song.. That is why the long introductions. Just setting the mood You will love shine on you crazy diamond
I remember listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond while driving down Card Sound Road in the Florida Keys, on a starry night, with the convertible top down... sublime.
I saw them on this tour in Foxborough MA at the old home of the New England Patriots called Sullivan Stadium back in 1994. They had the whole stadium singing this with them, it was INCREDIBLE.
This was at Earl's Court in West London, if I'm not mistaken. I was fortunate enough to see one of their concerts from this tour in May of 1994 at the old Foxboro Stadium in Massachusetts. It was the most amazing and surreal experiences I've ever had at a concert. That stadium was packed and it was an incredible experience I will never forget!
The last two times my husband had to go under general anesthesia. He asked to listen to Comfortably Numb from the Pulse Concert. Some of the people said they never heard any Pink Floyd songs before that. And they were amazed how good it was.
To give you an idea of how well known the song is, you should watch guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela perform this live at Glastonbury in 2009. They had the crowd sing the song, and the crowd knew the whole thing word for word.
David Gilmour is amazing. Pink Floyd are my favourite band of all time, but damned if I could say which is my favourite track, they’re all so damned awesome!
Saw them in the 80s as a teen, grew up with them from my sister and cousins. Will never stop hearing new tones and lyrics in the background on dark side of the moon and animals. Great show and awesome band
Pink Floyd is one of the greatest ever! Us and them, Time, Comfortably Numb, Mother, Marooned, Have a Cigar, Division Bell. Pink Floyd never disappoints.
For their 20th wedding anniversary my mom gave my dad divorce papers. They both had some emotional issues they needed to work out as weill as drug problems. My dad got sober for the first time in his life and stayed sober tell he died. He was crushed that she left him. He listened to this song on repeat. "We're just two lost souls, trapped in a gold fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground, thats how we found, the dame old fears... Wish you were here. Thos lyrics reminded him of her. This song is iconic.
His name is David Gilmour and Pink Floyd is the best Band of all time, no other Band can compare with them. In my think they are on the same level than Bach, Beethoven or Mozart. Their Musik can´t put in any categorie and they are not only transport Musik to you, also in the same time they send you emotions and feelings. If you want to see a another great guitar solo, then check out "Sorrow" from the same "Pulse" Concert. Greetings from Germany
I first heard this in 1976 when you were not even twinkle in your dad's eyes 🤣. Great reaction. They are my all time favorite band. If you have the time, react to Echoes stage in an amphitheater in Pompeii (destroyed by the Mt Vesuvius volcano )
The PULSE tour was the ultimate consert experience in history... Speakers in front, on both sides, and behind the audience made us be INSIDE the sound. The light, laser and video show, topped with the biggest disco ball l've ever seen. People in all ages and from different countries together in one cosmic ride to outer space... Unforgettable....
The stage design was based on the stage at the Hollywood Bowl. They had played there before and very much liked that stage so they just figured "well, why dont we just take the Hollywood Bowl on tour then". And since it's such a massive and complex stage, they had to have three complete versions of it, so that while they were playing at one venue, the stage from the previous venue was being dismantled, and the one for the next venue was being built, and so on. I saw them in Oslo during this tour, when I was 14, and been a fan ever since
Lots of talent in Pink Floyd, all over the place, from the rest of the instrumentalists, to the backup singers who are phenomenal. That being said, in the instance you referenced, "his name" is David Gilmour and he is an extremely rare example of someone with the unique combination of lyrical genius, vocal extraordinariness and instrumental mastery. I can count on one hand the number of artists I'm aware of (I'm sure there are many that nobody knows) that have all three.
Those of us who lived through the 60s, 70s, 80s etc always felt ourselves lucky if we were at the right place and time to get to see them perform live even once. Personally, I have been incredibly blessed to have seen them three times and each time was truly a transcendental experience. They don't JUST play. They reach out, touch your soul and take you along on an epic journey together. That's the best I can describe it. David Gilmour is, and always will be, "The GOAT" in my mind.
One of my buddies moved into Cali from out of state all obsessed with Floyd. I had no idea for years what they were about til years later. He was ahead of his time...
We used to play this in the local clubs years ago. It takes (and I can't stress this enough) nuts the size of space hoppers to scat in time with the guitar like that in front of a small crowd, let alone a mega-concert.
In 1989, I was at their concert in Venice. The stage was set up on a huuuge raft on the sea in the middle of the bay, surrounded by small boats. There was such a crowd on the waterfront and in the square that you could barely squat down.
The lead singer on this is David Gilmour. He's also known for being Pink Floyd's lead guitarist. For years Pink Floyd also had Roger Waters as a singer and bass player. According to Gilmour this song was written by both himself and Waters. Gilmour wrote the music with Waters writing the words. Gilmour thought it was the best song they ever wrote together. Thanks.
the opening sound effects are of a transistor radio as one rotates the station dail. It stops at a guitar on an off tined station. That guitar is Syd, his guitar slowly fades into oblivion as the Band starts to play their clean music. There message was always more than lyrics. Their music is in sync with the lyrics. Shine On YOu Crazy Diamond displays that even more so than on this song. Greats Band ever. The members are dying off, but the music will stay like the great Composers of Classical music. Future generations will say, "shhhh, Pink FLoyd" getting people to be quite so he can listen to the unique sounds of PF.
David Gilmour is the singer here, Richard Wright the keyboard player sings, as does their old bassist who is not here on this show but his name is Roger Waters. He quit Floyd in 1982. This song is loosely based on Syd Barrett the original guitarist and singer for Pink Floyd. Everyone in the band was good friends with Syd but Syd had mental breakdown quit music and became a recluse. A lot of their work I believe is themed on their relationships with Syd and their experiences with him.
This show was filmed in London at (Earl's Court), with a capacity of around 19,500 spectators. They presented 14 shows at Earl's Court, for a total of 273,474 spectators, or approximately 19,500 spectators per evening. Montreal was treated to 3 shows totaling 187,302 spectators, or approximately 62,434 spectators per evening. The largest attendance was at (Ohio Stadium) in Columbus, with 75,250 spectators for a single performance. Closely followed by (Mile High Stadium) Denver with 69,788 spectators, and the (Rose Bowl) in Pasadena with 129,060 spectators for two performances, or 64,530 spectators per night.
in my teen yrs i did not really listend or enjoy PF. did this past decade seeing videos of troops in combat zones singing/guitar this song after losing brother from ambushes or IEDs. I reinvested my ears . In January my Mom's passing i came across PF's "MOTHER" song just amazing
Fun fact: in „Keep talking“ (of the same concert) Gilmore uses a „talk box“, which feeds the distorted sound of the electric guitar through a tube into his mouth and he can alter the sound by opening and closing his mouth or changing the shape of his mouth. This creates a similar effect to a wha-wha pedal. In any case - probably something you might be interested to see!
Loved your reaction. I think you would make yourself and many of your listeners very happy if you reacted to the song Comfortably Numb from the same concert.
Yes there were rows and rows and rows of people for 15 nights in a row at this venue at earls Court in London!! And that's David Gilmour playing the guitar and singing and he's the usual lead singer and lead guitarist for Pink Floyd. Any song you check out on this 1994 pulse concert tour by Pink Floyd is likely going to floor you!!!
When I was introduced to Pink floyd I was 11. It was the album, dark side of the moon. In early 1970s. I think Pink Floyd would still be the one I Injoy the most if not heard for a while.
Welcome to the universe that is Pink Floyd, a world of incredible music. Its got seemingly endless, mood-setting intros like shine on You Crazy Diamond from Wish You were Here (1975), probably the longest intro you'll ever hear. Then, of course, their masterpiece album, Dark Side of the Moon - its that one with the prism cover- which is as iconic as the music. But if you've not heard it, treat yourself to a magical music journey through a landscape of sound by listening to the entire album in one go. Its because the songs all flow together, the album is conceived really just as one whole track with different 'movements' but all linked. They began this with the previous album Meddle (1971) which had on the vinyl version, an entire side devoted to one epic track, Echoes. These guys wrote the book on 'space rock' and filling enormous venues is pretty much normal for them!. in fact, take a peek at Pink Floyd Live 8 2005, the crowd will stagger you🙂. Enjoy more Floyd, can't really go wrong with them.
In 1978 this Song catch me...... Since that, I´m a fan of this unbelievable Group...... And i´ve got EVERY Album on Vinyl..... Incl. Obscured by Clouds, a Soundtrack....... 8-)
Pink Floyd is my favorite band, and Wish You Were Here is my favorite Pink Floyd song. It is the only song I have ever heard where I still remember the very first time I heard it.
We called singing and playing the guitar notes "skanking " back then.... An old Blues or R&B trick .... The singer is David Gilmore.. Of the original band there are three on stage here ,Gilmore ,The Drummer Nick mason, and keyboardist Richard Wright , Missing from the original line up is Roger Walters who was the main writer of songs , He also sang lead on some songs.. The keyboard player Wright ( deceased) sang harmonies and backing .Also missing, and now deceased is an original and inspirational leader, singer/ guitarist Syd Barret, ,Syd had a mental break down in the late 1960s, and David Gilmore took his place. ,This song and the album its off " Wish you were here " is dedicated to Syd Barret ...A stunning piece of musicianship if you listen to the whole album at once it is best..
Singer is David Gilmour. Back in the 60's, Gilmour and his bandmates plus others in the UK are fans of the Blues. Band gotten their name by combining 2 names of Bluesmen: PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council.
When they get to the line about trading a walk on part in the war. For the lead role in a cage. It reminds my husband about his dad. He fought in the Korean War. He spent 27 months 17 days in a Chinese POW camp..
This song by Pink Floyd is just epic hits the right notes I was introduced to this by my best friend who I lost in 2023 after his 13 moth long fight with cancer he is the person who introduced me to his legendary band he did say that the cd/record pales in comparison to them live
Pink Floyd are an iconic Acid Rock band. They definitely put you inside your head. Listen to the Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here albums. PLEASE react to the song Wish You Wete Here. Listen to the studio recordings not live versions.
saw pink floyd in 1974 in Nashville, TN. Awesome show. Also saw Blue Oyster Cult the same year. Both shows lent themselves weii and sounded even better with a little chemical enhancement. Great DAYS.
What’s crazy is that’s need even a voice box. It’s just him basically “scatting” in a falsetto along with his guitar. He does use a vox/talk box in a couple other songs. Check out Keep Talking from this same concert
Well Miss Brittany, you love a story and now you have entered the rabbit hole. Pink Floyd has one of the greatest Rock and Roll stories, so buckle up. Every one of there albums are like a short novel, every song feeds off of the previous one. So even though you didn't start from the beginning, I think you might get a hint of the whole picture. They are truly fantastic. Have fun on this journey.
This was one of Pink Floyds smaller gigs on the tour. A 13 night run which ended the tour (I went to 6 of these) at Earls Court which held 14,000. It was the last time the band did a full set concert.
Thank you Britt. This is my all time favorite song, period. When I was in college, the guitars would come out and we’d drink beers and have sing a longs. My best friend and I were the only ones who knew all the words to this. So we would always sing it. When he died, I sat with my Walkman and played this song over and over until the tape broke. This one’s for you Matt. 🍺
The lead singer, David Gilmour, is one of the finest guitarists who ever lived. He’s never done fast, flashy solos much, but in his hands that guitar is like a living thing, that can cry and moan and sing. He’s amazing.

Didn’t die, went to a mental institute. Dead now, but not when this song was recorded.

"We're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year." Don't fully know why that line resonates with me so much, but it do.
The sound is about Sid Barret a founding member of Pink Floyd and they are 2 lost souls without him
There aren't many groups who put on such a stage show as Pink Floyd. One of the things I really liked about them is that they were not afraid to use dissonant intros with some of their songs, they act almost like a mental palette cleanser to give the audience a clean slate for the next epic song to come.

We used to play this in the local clubs years ago. It takes (and I can't stress this enough) nuts the size of space hoppers to scat in time with the guitar like that in front of a small crowd, let alone a mega-concert.
One of the greatest bands of all time doing one of the greatest songs of all time. Beautiful.
Thanks.
David Gilmour is a F A N T A S T I C guitarist AND vocalist. Check out "David Gilmour Live at Royal Albert Hall, Remember That Night".
Pink floyd WOW these guys are off the wall so unique
YES Because I Have seen them LIVE Have you?
Literally my favorite pink floyd song
the opening sound effects are of a transistor radio as one rotates the station dail.
Definitely need to check out more Pink Floyd. It's good for your soul

I went to a pink Floyd concert in the late 80s in Stuttgart Germany, best concert I've been to, to this day
in my teen yrs i did not really listend or enjoy PF. did this past decade seeing videos of troops in combat zones singing/guitar this song after losing brother from ambushes or IEDs. I reinvested my ears . In January my Mom's passing i came across PF's "MOTHER" song just amazing
Paying attention it's a must, listening to Pink Floyd!
In any case - probably something you might be interested to see!
one of the truely great bands of the 20`th century ! and they are still performing !
Next one from Pink Floyd - Coming back to life ( live Pulse 1994 ) = 3 guitar solo 🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶
Loved your reaction. I think you would make yourself and many of your listeners very happy if you reacted to the song Comfortably Numb from the same concert.
That was at the Pulse concert at Earls Court in London in 1994 his name is David Gilmore
Growing up my family listen to all kinds of music. Is sad that people get stuck on one genre of music and miss out on so much
Pink floyd will take you on a journey that you will never forget.then you will want more
When I was introduced to Pink floyd I was 11. It was the album, dark side of the moon.
In early 1970s.
I think Pink Floyd would still be the one I Injoy the most if not heard for a while.
I was fortunate enough to see them in concert back in the day. Phenomenal experience!
Fighting back the tears listening to this is quite an effort..🙏
Yup, every time.
I saw the Pulse tour in '94 (their last tour) in Vancouver BC... truly a religious experience.
No show has ever come close since
Epic song...this was my brothers' favourite song to sing and play, and although he died of cancer whenever I listen to the song I hear his voice 🥲
Some of THE greatest lyrics IMO, ever written.
Hey my dear. I love how you open your book to ALL types of music. This is Pink Floyd. We Pink Floyd fans are deep. No pressure my l❤ dear , enjoy.
People’s favorite bands, favorite band. One of the MOST influential bands of ALL TIME.
The acoustic intro is one of my favorite things to play on my 12-string guitar. :)
Introduced to Pink Floyd when I was 14 and no turning bk! The best band and wish I saw them live
Britt, you are so effervescent! So pleasing to watch 😊
Saw David Gilmour twice in LA in 2016. The Hollywood Bowl on a Friday night and two days later at the LA Forum. Epic.
Great DAYS.
Check out pretty much anything from the Pulse tour. You will love it!
Whatever that warmth is that you exude? I wish I did that!
Great reaction
Pink Floyd live. The best. There really isn't anything any better.
