    Great video.
    I fish the wild lakes here in the comeraghs in co waterford ireland, cant beat the wild brown trout, i have the exact same outfit only with a greys line, cant beat Shakespeare fly rods and what I always say is the fish don't care how much the rod line reel cost its what flies you put on the business end that counts.
    Keep the videos coming

    It only took the first few minutes of viewing this video that I knew I was going to watch more of yours and subscribe! Your philosophy on tackle & costs is right on my wavelength! It’s 30 years since I last cast a fly line. I’m currently shopping for some tackle so I can get back out there, but I cannot believe the prices now (Yeah, Hardy etc always were expensive),and not withstanding the amount of tackle tarts out there paying ridiculous money (in my opinion) for kit. This is about getting out into the fresh air, catching trout, helping ones mental health & fitness, not about what label and price one pays for tackle. Brilliant video! Thanks for making the effort to produce it. - Jonathan

      Fantastic comments and feedback Jonathan very much appreciated. I hope to do much more fly fishing in this coming season. Prices are crazy for everything for a well known brand. Unless you have actually fished with an expensive rod your literally taking someone’s word on how good it actually is but the bottom line is they won’t catch anymore fish than a cheap rod. No wonder the younger generations shy away from the sport when the tackle they need costs so much and no one is really showing them that you don’t need it to enjoy your fishing,

    Those wee lochs offer some of the best fishing, just you, the rod, the fish, the cleggs 😃. The line does seem to suit the rod and casts well. Thanks, another nice video. Keep making these, much appreciated.

    I'm really enjoying your videos. No unnecessary dramatics, some beautiful locations and a lot of variety. Although I've dabbled in fly fishing and sea fishing, I'm almost exclusively a coarse angler due to my location. It's quite surprising how many skills are transferable between the different disciplines of fishing and you do a good job of explaining the methods you use.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  Рік тому +1

      Many thanks Marc, your comments are very much appreciated. I only started coarse fishing just over a year ago, which I have been hooked on from the start. Your right about the transferable skills between the disciplines although I must admit the learning curve has been steep but enjoyable. I even went as far and got a second hand match pole and have even fished a few matches. Now that’s a learning curve I didn’t expect. I do love a challenge.

    My only comment about the tackle is that your landing net is one of those short trendy ones. I have one too, it’s a rather nicely made wooden one that hangs in my study, and that’s the best place for it!

    Always used to fly fish for trout yrs back and had some great days in Scotland but were big trout caught , but again doesnt matter as its all about enjoyment and fly fishing brings much of that , usedgo when trout season began on few lochs some seasons mid February and others End of February and beginning of March this all when the weathers often wasnt on our side but hail , rain or shine id be out there way back unlike today now Sea fishing is my thing with beach castor or with use never forget Bombardo float with hand tied lure on end which is a bit alike fly fishing in a way although easier on your arms for sure older now so its way im going Bombarda float ..As for start of season trout fishing on the lochs
    Even recall once some guy i heard turns up for the start of season as couldnt wait to get season underway
    Would be bagpiper would play and had us all first day of season all stood around he played bagpipes and would chrisen the loch with a bottle of Whisky whilst tune would play on bagpipes and then all fishermen gathered would get ok to get into boats they had been hired out and on their merry way ..But on this season i think back about this guy turned up in anticipation
    On his arrival at the loch he was told -----> Sorry bud , but you wont get fishing today , as its all iced up big time 🤣
    Poor guy he who could not wait for the start of trout season and so he walked away rather sheepily 😀
    the guy he should have phoned in firstly 😁.
    Anyhow ye some good times been had at the fly fishing, which i got into it once the Lochs
    were becoming with fly only at the start of the trout seasons and onwards throughout season fly
    Some lochs allowed bait later in the season and spinning also they had dates when allowed from
    All lochs rules they had their own when start of season would be , often more than not was freezing cold \
    as it is February and March in Scotland for sure , but in cold easier to catch id say .
    Tight lines enjoyed the video as just seen this one now and good with good surroundings also .
    Nothing beats the quiet serene fishing with great surroundings , and all u hear is the odd splash of the odd fish
    in the water leap and the birds around you whistling away . Tight Lines Bud .🎣

    I thought I'd spent a long time out of it with 18 years since i last cast a line, started again earlier this year and have changed my fishing with changing from stillwaters and rainbows to wild Welsh Brownies in upland Llyns and rivers plus Grayling, really enjoying my fishing atm, I've revamped my gear too, new lines, reels, rods, flies etc. However I've only used my floaters this season so my intermediate and sinker have been a waste, have gone lighter too using a #5 as well as a #7.
    I notice you seem to stand in one place, try casting and taking a couple of steps left or right and repeat, you'll cover more fih that way, it's a tactic we use on welsh upland llyns.
    Lovely markings on the fish and congrats on the vid, liking it 😀

    A great video - it’s brought back happy memories of fishing the highlands, which I haven’t done in decades. The water looks very familiar and I’m guessing you were fishing the western side of Lochan na h-Achlaise. I agree with your assessment about buying gear. A good line is fundamental and I only use Rio these days, InTouch Gold, Gold Premier, In Touch Trout LT, Single-Handed Spey etc. Rio are not cheap but worth every penny. I would say it’s worth paying a few extra pounds for a good midrange rod that will serve many years, but I just can’t understand why people are prepared to spend a week’s wage or more to buy a top range rod that 1) is only marginally better than the midrange and 2) they can’t use anyway because they are bad caster. Giving a Stradivarius to a learner won’t make them Paganini. As for reels, don’t waste money on them. As far as I am concerned, the job of the reel is carry the line from the car to the water and back again. You’ve shown your modest priced setup catches fish and you had fun, which is what fly-fishing is all about. Don’t you just love it when the fish take the fly as soon as it lands on the water?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  2 роки тому

      Great comments and feedback much appreciated. There’s not much that compares in terms of the visual excitement when fishing. That moment when the trout takes your fly on the surface and then connecting with the fish, it’s what sets it apart from any other fishing method.👍

    Really makes the video when you give a commentary at the beginning and end Douglas, not to mention observations and comments throughout. Location, wind direction, conditions, species, history, tactics, tackle. Many of the comments below are complimenting your new tackle decisions which is based in your commentary and is not really about the fishing per se. The loch is beautiful, but how long would anyone watch a video of a loch for? Or even someone just fishing on a loch for? For me it´s your commentary that makes the videos really enjoyable.

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing As for picking holes Douglas, you go from zero to hero in no time with whatever species you try for. Very few people can do that. I´m a fly fisherman and that's bloody challenging with all the different rods and lines and leader set ups and flies. You must have fantastic multitasking skills to tackle coarse, sea, and game all whilst managing locations, kayaks, cameras, audio, work, and family. Hat´s off to you Douglas, and critics are usually just useless assholes who don't bother to think what it takes to produce something meaningful.
