    Fantastic information for a beginner. A lot of videos don't bother to explain the foundations of fly fishing, upstream, downstream, wet, dry, nymphs etc. These are all foreign to a beginner. This video was really useful.

    Your presentation is very nice indeed. I'm experienced but enjoy learning from other people.Too many people on You Tube make fly fishing out to be so complicated and puzzling. that many beginners give up in confusion or exasperation. You are encouraging and have given enough support for anyone to have a go on a stream. I just love streams above all else, and little ones especially. best Wishes form Australia. :-)

    Thanks Nick this took me back to my younger days in the late 70s early 80s fishing on the River Taw. Live in Yorkshire now and thinking of doing a little fly fishing on some of the local streams

    After many, many years away from fly fishing, I am now in a position, and have the motivation, to start again. This has helped to settle my mind in how I should approach it and the kit I'll need. Lovely video and great work 👌🏼

    Thank you for not shying away from eating part of your catch. Too my liking, this option is often nowadays frowned upon by the catch & release fraternity. Most of my catch is returned today but every now & then I do take a fish or two for the pot & oh my, do wild river trout taste good!! 😘👍🍻

    As a newcomer to fly fishing this video has been an excellent learning curve for me. I was actually searching for nymphing tutorials but because my club really frowns upon the use of indicators, the second part using a dry fly as an indicator and how to tie it 'New Zealand' style, I can now give this a bash with some confidence...hopefully. So I've stumbled on this accidentally by being drawn to your video title. Thanks for taking the time to explain all methods clearly.

    Great video Nick, I have course fished for 30 years and am the bailiff on my local river Dane in Cheshire, I have bought I small rod and reel set up similar to the one you have shown and am going to give fly fishing a go this spring, I like the fact how you have striped it all back and simplified it. What has always put me and I think many other people off is we all think its too complicated, im heading out next month with a few flies and going to give it a go!!

    Grat video, thank you. As a newbie to any fishing, it would be great to see a video on river etiquette - i.e if someone is already on the river, do you move downstream or upstream, & how far away is required / acceptable?

    I'm moving from Colorado in the U.S to the UK next month. I'm a bit confused by the whole beat system in the UK. Is there public water that a properly licensed angler can fish? How can I find where it's legal to fish and not private?

    • @farlows
      @farlows  4 роки тому

      Public water with free fishing is rare in the UK, apart from the coast where all fishing is free. Local tackle shops will be able to offer advice, the other alternative is to check locations via: fishinginfo.co.uk/index.html

    Why a weight forward for river fishing ?

    • @farlows
      @farlows  4 роки тому +1

      Most modern river lines come in a Weight Forward and a Double Taper option. Double Taper lines will offer more delicate presentation to those who want it, but modern Weight Forward line technology makes them great all-rounders and easier for beginners to get to grips with.
