You forgot Alucard's most evil act in the series. He hypnotized the desk clerk at the Brazilian hotel to genuinely believe that the movie White Chicks is amazing. A truly irredeemable act of pure evil.

It's amazing how someone so unrepentantly Chaotic Evil can end up firmly in the Neutral Good territory because of one forced action. Especially because it implies that he was successful in giving his own soul therapy at the end, yet his very first action back in the real world was a prank and more sexual harassment.
Let's face it: It wouldn't be Alucard if he wasn't _still_ thirsting for Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing at the end of it all.

Yeah, I honestly don't buy it though. Especially since he only gave those people therapy and sent them to heaven because killing them didn't work no matter how hard he tried. That said, it's amusing to imagine him stepping into Elysium, muttering "I helped some guys out because I couldn't kill them and I end up HERE!? Yeah, f%ck this sh!t" and then burn the entire place to ashes and skip his way back to Pandemonium. Munching on the bodies of random Chaotic Good people as he goes.
There is no one alive who can comprehend Abridged Alucard’s alignment.

He is bound by his own code to serve the Hellsing organization, but otherwise he does whatever the fuck he wants at any time and on a whim.

When I first saw the "Are we a bad person" callback in the finale, I lost it. Ugh. TFS's writing is so damn good.
The thing to take note of is how Alucard responds to the question: “Well, let’s start with the 20,000 people we impaled!” Alucard doesn’t wax philosophy, he admits to being a bad person. That’s what makes him great, though does have a noble goal, he knows well that he’s a monster.
One of my favorite moments in the series (and there are a lot of them) is Alucard laughing maniacally as he absorbs everyone that died in London, freezing, and going "Wait, am I a bad person?" and disappearing out of existence. It's like the only thing keeping him in existence was a total lack of giving a ^@$^.

The non-abridged Alucard is textbook lawful evil because he will always obey Integra’s orders. This is basically the big difference between the two.

Slight correction, I think. In the abridged canon, he blinked out of existence because Schrödinger was properly *observed.* by Alucard, collapsing the possibilities, and the Major counted on the possibility of Schrödinger being observed as ‘absent,’ so to speak. To quote the cyborg,
‘[He] CALLED HEADS!’
I thought that was just a pun (because it was Schro's decapitated head...) but it makes sense that it could be both.

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda disappointed you skipped over the bit of Alucard saying the real reason he made Seras a vampire.
Because he saw in her eyes what he lost long ago: the will to live.
Wasn't it heavily implied that alucard himself WASN'T the one doing the "s- harassment" and the reason he wasn't apologizing was because, well, that was actually integra doing so? At least retroactively

- My wife and I bonded off of HUA. We kept quoting it to each other. She then introduced me to SAOA.
- My dad (who was my D&D DM) had a "Good" vampire who's backstory/redemption was decades in the making. He passed before he could finalize it.
- I did show him Ep.8 before he passed, because of (what I consider to be Nat 20 scenes) Alucard's reentrance and Anderson's last words.
Long story short; TFS is how I met my wife, and a way to remember my father.
I think my favorite part is that Girlycard is voiced - in the female voice - by Takahata's own sister. Its resourceful and it works honestly
Fun fact, this abridged show WAS actually the first time i found out alucard backwards was dracula. And yes, it was from that scene in episode 8. I just yhought it was a badass name and put no other thought into it. Fun memories.
I know several people that even with the original manga were not expecting that...mainly because a lot of places have used Alucard as a name for Dracula's Son (such as Castlevania) and was expecting that to be his thing there.
The first time I ever heard about it was from the Hammer film 'Dracula A.D 1972" that's not me saying the year it came out(though it is) that's literally in the title of the film. It was a clever disguise by Dracula, but Van Helsing's descendant was able to parse it out. It was also Peter Cushing's last performance as the best ever Van Helsing we've ever gotten.
I dunno if this is where it comes from(for all I know the backwards name thing is used in the novel as well) but it's the oldest use that I know of....
Which is what I was going to say, before I remembered, OH CRAP there is a Universal film from 1941 called Son of Dracula where Lon Chaney Jr. Plays Dracula's son, Alucard. Which is really funny because I always thought whenever Alucard was the son of Dracula I was always like "ugh, I hate that, it should just be Dracula" because I was, I guess, a purist for the Hammer films for some reason(despite most of them not being that great), and probably also my slight annoyance from Castlevania fans thinking the name Alucard comes from there(which is super petty, and I'm pretty sure not a lot of Castlevania fans actually think that). So to have that come back around and smack me in the face is funny.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but the ending of this abridged series is so beautiful and satisfying in contrast to the ending of the actual series and I truly appreciate TeamFourStar for being the writing geniuses that they are. I’m not one to typically argue over an abridged series being better than its mainline counterpart (aside from SAO), but this series definitely deserves its flowers for how well done it is.
The only debate really about Hellsing is if Ultimate, or Ultimate abridged was the best version. Most of agree normal Hellsing was bad when you compare it to the other two.

To be honest I felt like he started chaotic evil and ended chaotic good. Because knowing him he would still be a prankster, albeit a more light hearted one rather than full on malicious, that is if the story continued. Ending with Neutral Good is still satifying
Agreed, though I always thought that Alucard would semi-retire and take up working as a therapist. He seemed to actually like playing therapist and I would feel that he would continue it in someway. Besides, Seras has basically been filling in Alucard's shoes while he was gone, so I think he would generally let Seras handle it with the exception of major battles.

Chaotic Evil in the beginning, then Neutral good when he is forced to be "dead" (like how integra found him or during the massive group therapy) and Chaotic Neutral leaning Chaotic Good at the end after he finally returns.
A good one for you to cover would be Issei Hyodo, from Highscool DxD. That show is actually REALLY well-written in places despite its... "appeal", and issei hyodo is one of the few characters from that that you can show more than 10 scenes of fully clothed... Because anime.
Oh yeah. That would definitely be a good one to look at. Though, I’m curious how Stuart would handle the transition between season 3 (BorN) and 4 (HERO) considering the author hated season 3 so much he changed studios and retconned out the last 3.5 episodes of filler in an “episode 0” of season 4 that was more faithful to the source material. My guess he’s either going to skip the last 4 episodes of BorN and go straight to HERO or revert Issei’s alignment to where it was at the start of episode 9 when he gets to HERO.

THE AMOUNT OF NAT 20 SCENES HE *MUST* HAVe.
Also a big point towards the Abridged version of Alucard is that... He honestly talks like a child. "I was minding my own business" "BUT I WAAAAS!!" and most of his immature jokes and such could be read as him just WANTING to feel young and free after being thrusted into a horribly messed up world as a child. He is still an adult and he can still be serious, but it's 100% certain that his "prankster" persona is just him trying to cope with the lack of a normal childhood.
Chaotic Good is where I would pin Alucard. He's all about agency and self-actualization, especially when freeing those souls.
Chaotic Neutral leaning Chaotic Good imo since he was still the crimson fucker we all knew and loved after he returned form his forced group therapy session

That being said, OG Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate are to me the difference between WhiteWolf's Vampire: the Masquerade and its spinoff, Sabat. Where the original sought to reflect on the struggle for Seras to maintain her humanity... Ultimate was mostly Alucard reveling in being a the ancient vampire that he is.
Hellsing Abridged played a big part in inspiring my current writing project, and it's very close to my heart. I can only hope that when I'm done I'll have created something half as good as this series.

Felt like something to comment about.
4:47 HSOTD is genuinely underrated. I watched it expecting silly ecchi-hijinx and while yes that is also a part of the show, it is also just a solid zombie-apocalypses show.

I love your abridged alignment videos. Could you maybe do one on a machinma? There is one series called Smash King which is one of my favorites cause it plays on the idea of the characters not being exactly like their original. Especially with characters like Bowser who is seen as a monster and wants to be loved and Link who unable to live with the pressure of the legacy or the original link decides to become a mass murderer. It’s so good and I highly recommend it just to watch at least.

Oh dang! I just stumbled across that kickstarter the other day by happenstance, and now I just happen to stumble across a video from the person who made it. Gotta say, big thanks for showing some love for Pathfinder 2e (and 1e for that matter). It seems to get too few kickstarters compared to 5e, so it's nice to see. On the topic of these videos, you NEED to do TFS Alexander Anderson and Seras Victoria for this series. Anderson has the best quotes next to Alucard, in my opinion, and I love Victoria’s character development.

Honestly, given Alucard's actions between the beginning and end of the series, I think it'd make most sense to say that his actions and intentions have swung between Chaotic Evil and Neutral good, he'd likely end having a true alignment somewhere between Chaotic Good or Chaotic Neutral, with a skew towards chaotic good as he wraps up his character arc within his own internal purgatory.
Also I think that his actions as "Dracula" should've been counted, as it's heavily implied that Dracula and Alucard aren't separate personalities, it's just how he presents himself, with Dracula being the same "soul" as Alucard himself, and Dracula even saying to Anderson when he demands to fight Alucard-
"You do know it's just my name spelled-"
"Of course I do, shut up and bring him out!-"
"Very well...if you insist."
As if to say, yeah, he's the same person either way, it's just whether he speaks in his native accent or in his more modern way of speaking that he's adopted over the centuries, and he just decided to keep the persona he's known Anderson as the entire time, out of respect, when he realizes that Anderson actually preferred him when he was LESS respectful, rather than the noble he was in the olden days.
In other words, "Alucard" is mostly an act he puts on to fit into the modern world, while Dracula is his true nature and temperament seemingly, which makes sense, given how Alucard's backstory as we dive into it, is literally just Vlad/Dracula's story, they're the same person with the same past and same emotions, especially shown when Alucard is enraged at Anderson becoming a monster, and also how he breaks down crying afterwards at having to kill the first person in centuries who could've been a worthy person capable of killing him, and also, in a weird way, a friend who is one of the few people capable of understanding him.
But yeah, I would personally give him the dings as Dracula since it's not a different personality, just a different presentation.
I'd even say that given his explicit reason for becoming who he is and what he is, was so that he could purge the world of monsters by becoming the worst one of all, that's probably the most chaotic good thing one could possibly do, in one line, it states the difference between this Alucard and the original, the original Alucard/Dracula from Hellsing was much closer to the true Dracula, with a mostly lawful evil alignment to him, while this Alucard, while clearly absolutely enjoying the blood rage and violence, and other forms of depravity, almost seems to be a much more voluntary servant to Integra and the Hellsing clan, bound not by law, as clearly repeatedly breaks any and every rule possible, but by a common goal and value.
Don't get me wrong, he absolutely causes massive property damage, and shows unrepentant hatred towards religion and capital G God. But he breaks the rules in such a way that he oddly enough causes more good than evil, to be the monster to kill all monsters, and to protect those, let's face it, he genuinely loves and cares about along the way.
He's potentially more broken and depraved than cannon Alucard is, but also oddly, much more human. As unlike the original, he doesn't regret trading away his humanity, but rather, he became a monster BECAUSE he was human, and wanted to find his own form of justice that the world and God wouldn't allow. This is even explicitly stated by Anderson in his final moments, as he shows that he understands Alucard's true motives, even potentially better than he does.
And aside from some civilian casualties fighting Dandy Man, from what we know, he hasn't actually killed a single innocent in the entire series. Harassment and massive property damage? Yes absolutely. But he shows an interesting morality in that when it comes down to it, this Alucard is FAR more concerned with minimizing casualties than the original, and actually, correct me if I'm wrong since it's been a while since I've seen both series, but the scene where he's coaching Seras through learning her abilities so she can save their mercenaries from the illusions, was actually non-cannon and entirely added into the Abridged, right? Which is him going out of his way to not only protect and teach Seras, but also to try and give her the skills to save their comrades, even if it was ultimately unsuccessful.
Edit: As a side note, I also feel like other members of the Hellsing cast, either the original or the abridged, sort of get slept on when it comes to deep dives on the characters, since Alucard is the flashiest and is what everyone remembers, but he's also absent, for like half or a third of the series, it'd be nice to highlight someone else from the cast with similar screen time, like maybe Seras or Integra? Hell, Pip is even an interesting character, who just doesn't get much screen time as the others. Anderson could also be interesting, especially if we cover the Abridged version since I'd say they even give him more screen time there than the original, or at least it feels that way.
@druidofscosglen2868 I will also say in his defense: Property damage is not nearly as bad, and we can't prove either way whether those goats were going to be slaughtered or not before he tried painting the car.
Given the number of times pigs blood has been used in pranks as well, you also can't necessarily say it's evil...and there were no casualties-
Explicitly, never been a civilian casualty mentioned in any of the budget reports...that we know of. XD
I don't deny he's a menace to society, all I'm saying is that he at most causes emotional distress to innocents, rather than physical. XD
@druidofscosglen2868 AND ALSO in his defense, the one time where he DOES catch people in the crossfire, it's the corrupt police and SWAT officers who were originally attacking him first under false premises, and made a deal with the nazis for immortality.
Even Pip blew up the tent with the police officials who made the deal, since none of them were innocent in being the aggressors, and once again, no civilians harmed. XD
I'm honestly surprised in hindsight that Alucard restricted himself to ONLY enemy opponents the entire time, and NEVER causes more damage than absolutely necessary...and when he DOES cause unnecessary damage, it's always Hellsing property anyways, which technically falls under his jurisdiction.
12:04 the abridged series' plan is a bit different. To copy and paste it from elsewhere (I'm too tired/lazy to recount it accurately), it's based on real life quantum mechanics. To explain briefly, on the quantum level it's possible for unobserved particles to be in two places at once, and a wave function is the potential places that the particle could be. The phenomenon is called quantum superposition, and the Schrodinger's Cat thought experiment was created to mock it. A wave function collapsing means that the particle has been observed, and now has a single, definitive position. In the show, Schrodinger was quantumly superimposed between life and death, and when Alucard absorbed them, he observed them (well, millions of him observed them). Thus their wave function collapsed, and it was a 50/50 chance that they would wind up alive or dead.
Basically the major's plan had a 50% success rate, AND *HE PICKED HEADS*

3 million neutral goods for soul therapy...over 30 years approximately. That equates to 100,000 souls "treated" per year. Divided by 365 days per year comes out to roughly 274 souls per day. That's 11 souls per hour. You wont find better rates in ANY field of therapy.

I think in the actual series, the collateral damage wasn't intentional on Alucard's part. In the abridged...I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I would say he's closer to CG if anything, since at one point when Integra asks why he didnt just kill the dead souls within him, he says, "oh i Tried.....ESPECIALLY ON ME"
