I love my mini, its amazing. Fixes the issue of the portability problem with the deck ally and go. Having the keyboard and trackpad makes it so windows is just as easy to use as any laptop. You dont need any mediocre software to hide windows inability to be a portable OS. And the gpd software doesnt look fancy but works better then any other. Auto tdp and fps limits just work. It will never freeze up on you. To prevent it from tipping over i added a flip out laptop riser foot.

@@eiceys4612 7 inches works really really for the majority of AAA titles. The only issue would be text being smaller if you have subtitles on, but I find it legible. It really depends on your tolerance. As mentioned in the review, the bottom corners do tend to dig into your palm a bit, and although noticeable, it’s not unbearable. I really don’t notice it after I begin playing. Overall, I think it’s very comfortable once you get used to the layout. The Win Mini does get quite warm though after even short play sessions. Not terribly uncomfortable, but something to keep in mind. I wouldn’t recommend going over a 18w TDP while using it as a handheld. Personally, I would definitely recommend the Mini if you don’t mind spending a bit more, especially the 2024 refresh. I’ve running Bazzite instead of Windows and behaves just like a steam deck. I wouldn’t recommend the legion. I would wait for Lenovo to do a refresh or consider the Ally X. You’ll have a far better experience.

You arnet supposed to use the wasd keys, you can map the wasd to the joystick with the controls switched to keyboard and not gamepad. Also the fan is quieter then the old deck if you make sure you turn on motion assist with the fan curve option selected

I like the concept because it is something I would actually enjoy using, but not this price range with that specs

I got the one that's better for netbooking. The GPD Win Max 2 2023 edition. It has the same processor but in a larger size for a bigger battery and better thermals, but it's heavier and not as comfortable to hold up and play.
And it only have a 60hz screen.
@@jericperey3285 oh yeah, I forgot about that. Although it doesn't bother me because I have been playing games at 60 Hertz in my entire life, so it's fine.

Wait so the model that even performs the same as the legion go is significantly more expensive and the device gets really hot and it’s still a worthy competitor to the legion go, interesting…🤔
It doesnt get significantly hot unless you install the bios that unlocks it passed 20w. It gets mildly warm at most up until then. After 20w you see virtually no gain in performance with these chips and kill your battery life. But if docked you can run at 28w and be fine as the internals are not that hot. And its a completely different form factor then the go. The go is worse to carry then my significantly more powerful g14 laptop. Why would you travel with the go?
did we watch the same video where he mentions that he worries it could get hot enough to cook sd cards like the ally? how is the go worse to travel with than a laptop its smaller, you can take the joy cons off and throw them in a bag with the tablet the legion go is not that hard to travel with at all, you also bring up that your laptop is more powerful but I bet you it’s way more expensive
@@CJTheTokay You can get last years models for about the same price as the Go so no, the g14 isnt more expensive. And yes, a laptop fits perfect in a laptop compartment. The go in its case takes up a massive amount of room in the backpack. I did watch the video and actually own the mini. I think i know how warm it gets. He unlocked it passed 20w. It comes locked at 20w and you can only unlock it by requesting a bios from gpd to be emailed to you. Up to 20w it simply is not hot. After 20w it can feel hot on the plastics. But the difference in fps is so small from 20-28w on the 7840u and z1 extreme chips it simply isnt worth going that high. And it will not fry the SD card, the plastic if measured with a thermal gun at 28w is under 50c. You arent frying a SD card at 50c. The sd card is also on its own board. The area that gets the hottest on his unit is the SSD. They used an inefficient SSD that heats up pretty bad. I had bought the 512 model knowing this and upgraded to my own Samsung ssd that stays under 60c while gaming and as high as 71c while downloading a game.
@@CJTheTokaywell it's pretty much common sense that legion go is a much bigger device. Unless you plan to leave your joysticks at home which is weird . This device without grips is pocket friendly and much smaller. And it has very little heat at the recommended watt.. There are many reviews on it that shows the temps are really good
If you are spending over $1000 on this, i would say that it would be better to go for the "GPD WIN Max 2 (2023)" edition.
It's just $110 more than the Mini non-grip variant, but is bigger in size and battery capacity.
And way less comfortable. The cheaper 7640U variant of the Mini is better on heat and comfort.
A bit bigger and with a bigger battery? Thats exactly what the GPD win max 2 is, so... maybe your reviewing the wrong product if you think those would be improvements?
Wrong info. Unlocked bios max tdp is 28w. Locked bios is 20w tdp max.

It is what I expected. Used a 7840U while probably having worse cooling than a pretty nice implementation like the Ally's while costing more.
I have a GPD win 4 with the slide up screen and built-in keyboard, well I find it's not super practical to use. It is better than the touch screen and makes windows a lot easier to use with a gaming handheld, I wonder what your thoughts are on the GPD win 4

Yeah, that's literally what the GPD Win Max 2 is for.
Will wait on GPD WIN Max 3 with (hopefully): an upgraded OLED or VRR screen, internals that won't cook my hands and better GPU (Intel Ultra Core maybe?). I'm waiting on more reviews of the OneXPlayer X1 3-in-1 that just came out to see if that's worth backing.

So usually the tdp isn’t 30 it’s a max of 20 unless you email gpd for a special bios so the 30w results don’t really make sense cos that’s not what everyone would use. I have had one since launch with the 20w bios and battery is between 1.5-2 hours

The GPD win Max is my absolute favorite handheld
Get the win 4 instead its cheaper got a uncapped 8840u because it got a good designed cooler. The mini is capped to 20w because the heatsink is too small to run uncapped.

genuinely cringe with the "regular typing" on the thumb keyboard, thumb type like a phone it'll find a world of difference
also what's with the dents on the top cover, what have you drop on it or drop it on, good thing the it's a clamshell and everything is intact
still good enough review(thumb type, please), plus good touch with the netbook of the past, and there's a whole line of UMPC back in the 2000s too.
If they made a bigger model itd probably solve most if not all their current issues. ( Bigger=More mass for cooling, more space for better keyboard, better battery, better Controller buttons, and paddles on thr back)
