'Pain is not supposed to sound beautiful and polished.' Damn that one hit the nail on the head. I see too many vocal coaches reacting and being consumed with the technical side, forgetting that the primary function of singing is to communicate the story, the emotion of the song, but you obviously get it.

Yes! She has such perfect control of her instrument…every rasp, every nuance was put there on purpose. She’s spectacular.
The way she just ends it with "thats that one" after an EPIC, emotional, gut wrenching, beautiful song. WOW. Your face and eyes tells what you are feeling, Loved your reaction.

I love how you can see the transition from "voice coach" to "human" mode, when the lyrics and Yebba's voice just do their magic eventually.

This is a point on which many YT vocal experts seem to completely miss. You do not miss it, and I thank you.
There are many singers who focus on "showing off" their vocal skills and control rather than focusing on the song or performance..... and the performance suffers for it.
They incorrectly seem to believe that their performance is better due to their own perceived technical perfection.....but while some scenarios may call for this approach, many others do not.
The performance we are watching in this video DEMANDS that the emotion and desperation and anguish and sorrow are conveyed to the audience..... a technically perfect performance does not improve the performance... quite the opposite.
Taking more breathes than is technically necessary is part of the performance and also when here voice sounds weak as we near the end of the performance... well, was that due to the singers voice being weak by that point in the song or because she is singing to the limits of her voice... OR is it a specific creative choice. Imagine the woman in the song.... would she not be crying and yelling?
Would her voice not be stressed and weak?
The technical imperfections in this performance enhance and improve the performance ......a technically perfect performance would not convey the emotion to the audience.

I LOOOOVE how expressive your face is when you react to songs/voices. Such emotion. You speak about singing techniques, etc, but your emotional reactions is ALL in your lovely face. Your face is an excellent open book.

I was unexpectedly introduced to this song and have been keeping up with the reactions ever since for the last 3 years. I have to say that your reaction is one of the most attentive and pleasant reactions I've experienced. The reason being is that you truly listened and obviously your heart was there listening as well. The lament that she sends, the wailing dirge is priceless.
I can't really say how many times I've listened to the song or how many reactions I've watched but everytime I watch reaction I listen to this song it affects me every time. Thank you for taking the time out to analyze and experience the song.

One person I have notice you have yet done a reaction to is Chris Stapleton. You will not regret listening to him. The soul and pain that Yebba expresses is very similar to how Chris sings. I read her mom committed suicide and she lost the love of her life around the same time so she is singing from that place. Just love her

The pain she's expressing is real. Her mother who she was very, very close to, committed suicide a week before this song was written and this performance, she's showing us how deep her pain is. Not one singer I have ever heard of could keep themselves together for such a performance, and not fall apart before the end. Yebba was the name her mother called her as a pet name, because her real name is Abbey, which is Yebba reversed. When she sings, 'I think about you all the time,' you can see the anguish she's going through. I have heard this song 6 times, and each time I have cried.for Yebba's terrible pain. She is so beautiful a singer. Her style is incredibly good and her voice has wonderful depth and range. Thank you for reviewing this song.

I’ve been learning a lot about singing from all of the vocal coaches reacting to her lol! if you do want more of her music, her tiny desk is incredible (longer). for a shorter song, boomerang is really cool & has some fireworks

Great reaction and analysis Anna. Abigail (Abbey) Smith is from the US. Yebba is Abbey spelled backwards. The start of the song reminded me of the live version of The Murder Song by Aurora. All in all a remarkable, emotional performance.
