Hi dear music family! I just wanted to let you know that I had to publish this video without a premiere live chat due to some unexpected changes in my schedule. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to you, but I hope you still enjoy watching the video. Thank you for understanding and for your continued support! Let's connect in the comment section 💙
Thanks for that. I thought my notifications were off or that I slept through it or something. Enjoyed it all the same.
💙It's ok
No worries. Loved it.
Keep up the great work Anna.
Are you ok Annna?
Down the TOOL rabbit hole we go!🤘
🐇
I'm here for it
Haha lol
There's nothing I enjoy more than watching someone discover and fall in love with everything that is MJK.
It's the best hole to go down. Best band on the planet. Each musician a master at their craft and playing off of each other. No other band like em
If you like that scream... Check out their song The Grudge... 🤯
^ this
"The drummer makes art."
Danny Carey is a legitimate musical genius. His understanding, mastery, and implementation of polyrythyms (and other absurdly advanced drum techniques) is on par or beyond what the best drummers have ever done.
Their music appreciates over time like wine.
he just mite be the best drummer in ths genre and probably top 5 all round ..ever
Danny is the Neal Peart of the 21st century. Him and Thomas Haake
Just the most interesting band in the world....my fave band ever ....more plz...spiral out...
they're pretty good
Snarky Puppy is up there, an epic experience too. But Larnell isn't playing with them too much, busy guy now
There was a tour in 2001 where King Crimson opened for Tool, and the bands are fans of each other. Danny Carey in particular is a big fan of KC.
I still recommend "The Grudge" for amazing Tool vocals.
Yep. Came here to second The Grudge.
Being that she's vocal-focused, yeah The Grudge is a good call.
Danny is touring with members of King Crimson this year.
@@mixedmeter yep, 'Beat'.
He has a good long scream in The Grudge . When you get to it .
Maynard is literally a musical genius.. as I've said, it's awesome to see people appreciate the music for the first time.😁
46 and 2 is another GREAT Tool song. And Judith by A Perfect Circle, was Maynards side group doing a song about his mother's battle with cancer and Maynards battle with faith... it's kind of amazing
and 10,000 days continues the musical journey involving his Mom, and his emotional struggles with her, her faith, his anger etc etc. Wings for Marie pt 1 and 2 are just mind blowing.
@Zero-Fox-Garage yup. Long struggle, 10000 days
I saw them in concert on the 30th of January. Seeing them live in this life is a must. Maynard and I turn 60 this year!
I'm 55 now and the thing that really hits me is how OLD we thought people were at our age when we were young, yet here we are still rocking out!
They won a grammy for their soundscape
There's nothing I enjoy more than watching someone discover and fall in love with everything that is MJK.
A reactor pointing out the King Crimson connection? That is a pleasant surprise. King Crimson has been said to be one of the bands biggest influences by the band themselves.
They have teamed up with David Bottrill, who produced records for both Robert Fripp and King Crimson.
Danny Carey has said many times that Bill Bruford, who was the drummer for King Crimson at times, is a big inspiration for him.
So yeah, King Crimson vibes in Tool songs is definitely a thing.
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yep, thats what earned my respect. This is my new channel to learn about singing.
Can't wait to see more. Your insights are the best! Pneuma by Tool , live version Danny Carey drum cam please.
Omg, In the Court of the Crimson King 😮 ... 👍👍
👌
Due to their arrangements and Danny’s drum skills, they often make simple things sound way more complex.
I view MJK's voice as almost another musical instrument. Something about this group hits your soul.
YES! You are someone who totally "GETS" Tool and all their glory!!
Please please please go down the tool rabbit hole! Your reactions are unmatched, your knowledge and genuine love and desire for great music is infectious. Tool can and will send you in all directions. I am begging you to go down the rabbit hole and join us!
I am 38 years old and I have know about tool since 1994 or so and I never took them seriously. My friend all loved them and I just went along like yea they are good
I finally did myself a favor and really really listened. This band legit is one of the greatest ever. Their music is art pure and simple. Music moves me and changes my mood this band does that in spades
For more drum magic, watch the drum cam version of Pneuma!
About the Korn Daddy recommendation below, that song can be literally dangerous to hear without being prepared that it's an incredibly disturbing song about child abuse. Don't get me wrong, it's great, but it can be truly traumatic if you don't know what you're getting into
Totally concur on Pneuma!
And definitely concur on Korn Daddy - I really think it kinda mean for people to suggest that song, especially early in a Korn journey for someone. Very, very disturbing & hard to listen to song.
I do believe King Crimson is one influential band for Tool, yes!
Oh man, lots of good songs by them too, my favorites probably being Thela Hun Ginjeet, Elephant Talk, and Epitaph.
Yes , King Crimson was one of Danny's favorite bands. Mine too.
Starless is a good one
TOOL Army here! Yes almost 4/4 but feels like odd meter by syncopation of bass line.
this is radio song but very good song to open world of TOOL!
💃
Anna - thank you so much. I am slowly learning to speak Finnish - and it is mostly because of you. And now I must go out and brave the kelirikko.
Anna Vaskelainen 🎉 takes on Tool!! This is epic!! 🌌 🕳 🎉 🎧 🎙 🎤 🎸 🥁 Summer vibes for me in this here winter ❄️! Love it!! 💜 💙 👀 🕳 🎉
I love King Crimson and am happy to hear you make the prog rock comparison right away. "Dinosaur" is a great and underrated track by them. Thanks for the good content as always and the informed analysis of the music and vocals
All 4 members of TOOL are absolute masters of their individual instruments. And you are an absolute joy to watch! I love how your facial expressions change with the music, and we can actually see what you are feeling.🥰
I loved the reaction, and I absolutely LOVE the combined Finnish and English input.
His voice is nimble...it just fits in every block of the song. Remarkable
It's hard to focus just on the vocals when listening to a band like Tool. Each musician brings so much to the table that you can't ignore the individual contributions. Maynard actually remains somewhat hidden during live shows (unlike the live version of Sober that you reacted to), so that IMO the other musicians get the credit due, rather than everyone focusing on the front man. Thanks so much for this reaction Anna.Your analytical skills are top notch, and just watching you grooving to the beat with a smile on your face had me smiling. And yes, you nailed the meaning. Lateralus is another fun Tool song you should check out; they incorporate the Fibonacci sequence into it. Very cool. 💛🤘🤙✌️
Mostly 4/4. Other influences are Black Sabbath and Joni Mitchell, for a spectrum. There's some great verbal gymnastics in Ænima. It's so good how they all go off in different melodies but they all contribute to the whole. Like Laeteralus. Glad you're listening!
Greetings from Italy. I'm mostly silent, but since you mention King Crimson... the intricacies of the various layers of Tool music are really similar to the ones of the music that Fripp was composing in the '90s and '00s (including the Projekcts, listen to Frakctured...), with the "wall of sound" that he said was inspired by some metal band of those times like Pantera. The current layout with three drummers is also giving that percussive "overload" that is one of Danny Carey signature features. Love your reactions!
I think you're right that this is a rare Tool song that's in straightforward 4/4, but still rhythmically complex.
Unfortunately I can't join the live-premiere but will definitly watch later. Wish all the folks much fun and profound Anna-lytics. Have a great musical weekend 🎶👍👏
The 4:4 drop towards the end of this song always hits me so hard
Exquisite analysis for a truly complex and magnificent masterpiece of a song from such a legendary band like Tool. You are so profoundly intelligent, beautiful, and intriguing Anna keep up your amazing work in both English 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 & Finnish 🇫🇮!
He sounds like an angry angel. It’s out of this world
Finnish goddess!,,, You are amazing! My favorite band because of the musical time signatures, Danny Carrey”s drum beats, Maynard’s vocals and they are amazing live (6 times).
Great song and react. The saying "The pot calling the kettle black" in finnish seems to be accurate to me from what I have read/understood about the lyrics (people judging others as if they are perfect themselves). Thanks for sharing a song you like related to this kind of music too!
In terms of composition, Maynard puts his vocals over the music. When he receives the songs they're mostly done. So most of the timings that line up with the vocals is his intention.
There is no superlative that desrcibes your comment, 'this drummer makes art'. Loved this reaction. Tool, i would say, are the best band of the last 30+ years. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
46&2 next. Others can argue but I give you a gold sticker from the tool army/cult.
TOOL is one of the GOATs, hope to see you react to more. Would love to see you react to "Pushit" Live Salival version by them. You will be blown away.
An EPIC reaction to this hit song by Tool Anna. For more musically complex examples from them try "Lateralus" or "Parabol/Parabola". Thank you.
Done listening to whole tool discography for the 1000th time, now i'm watching people react to tool, can never get enough tool! they are the best! great reaction! i don't understand Finnish but interesting you switching languages!
Great review, and loooove the fact you're moving into more Tool reactions! This song talks about the suppression of cannabis within the government. Poking fun at the system (kangaroo court), referring to the fact that it's very widely used, even within the government (house of cards and glass, so don't go throwing your stones around), and the lawyers that defend the government's position (liar, lawyer, mirror show me what's the difference). Classic imagery by the master Maynard, an easy song to love. If you really want to hear Maynard scream, Ticks & Leaches. His love song to the record label that tried forcing Tool into making a "screamy" song to compete with the likes of bands like Korn on the radio.
TOOLARMY are diverse, ego-aware, humble, educated & Unique. Tool is not a tap your foot to the verse & sing the hook band. It is an experience within your emotions and mind awakening thought process with Sound.
YES
"The drummer is making art." I think you have given the most profound, succinct explanation of Danny Carey's playing I've ever heard.
Anna have you done Lateralus it's probably their most time intricate song ever . And being musical brilliant they make such a huge difference to the thought that music isn't mathematical in nature . Time sequences have been around since the invention of the drum .
Tool are such brilliant musicians that their gifts to us the listener is incredible . Danny Cary's playing is a sight to behold . Someone who can do that many poly rhythms at once is beyond words .
That last “long” note Maynard holds is a very small warm up for the grudge
More Tool please, it's a great band, with some amazing songs, also as a Spanish speaker, I found your language very interesting to listen to, almost as it was a kind of music
Speaking of King Crimson, I saw them headline for Tool at Red Rocks. Amazing venue. One of my top 3 shows of all-time.
Love the expressions and the fact you use both languages, caught me off guard. Cheers
In the Tool song The Grudge, Maynard is able to hold a scream for at least 25 consecutive seconds. If you thought his scream in this song was impressive, wait until you hear an even longer one from him in The Grudge. Cheers and thank you for all your amazing work Anna ❤️🌹👍.
Here for TOOL 🔧 Greatest band ever!
EDIT: Bravo on the King Crimson reference. TOOL credits them as an inspirational band gor their sound
Tool - Pushit (Live Salival version) is an absolute clinic on Maynards diversity in vocal control. There is everything from close mic whispers to full scream ability. Welcome to the rabbit hole of TOOL. The army is watching.
Well done. Probably the best musician's analysis of this song I've seen.
I absolutely love the way you describe what you hear.
This band is one of the most highly intelligent and influential band in the world 🌎
Banger song and incredible band!🤘❤🤟
I don't know what is more impressive; them using a bunch of different time signatures or making 4/4 sound so different and interesting.
Lovely to see a True Vocal Reactor instantly appreciate and pick up on the complexity, the clarity, and the amazing choices Tool crafts in the music. I swear I've listened to this dozens of times (Tool is a great listen to on long flights... zone out and sink into the music) and I still hear something new. Would love to hear all the parts isolated just to catch other unique moments. Awesome reaction again. Why I'm sub'd... and you need more of your 59.K subs and 27K views to comment and give the algos something to chew on! ☮☮
You may have just provided the best commentary and reaction to Tool that I have ever witnessed. I too love King Crimson.
to see your joy while you are listening to one of my favorite bands of all time I've been listening to them since the 90s the way that you describe everything about the band as individuals and as a whole
your description of the song is spot on I don't have any specific favorite tool songs they're basically all my favorite but if you listen to their early stuff I will guarantee you'll love it and be hooked for life I would love to hear any review from the opiate album or Lateralus because I seen you smile instantly when you started hearing that last scream he does keep doing what you're doing
This is one of the most interesting and most enjoyable reactions to "The Pot" (or any Tool song) I've seen so far. I really like your vibes and your approach to doing your reactions. New sub here.
I highly recommend giving a really awesome band a listen you might not have heard of before. They're called Alter Bridge and a few good songs to start listening to them could be: Words Darker Than Their Wings (live at The Royal Albert Hall), Watch Over You (live) and Open Your Eyes.
Much love and greetings from Germany
Lost count of how many times I have heard this song.
Never. Get. Sick. Of. It
One of the great compositions.
you committed on Carry (tool's drummer) several times. If You want to take the deep dive, there is a video of Carry completely isolated live on the song "pneuma". I would enjoy you breaking down the percussion as you usually do the voice.
love your channel.
ANNA! Glad I found your channel. Your appreciation of the songs message, musicianship and of course Vocals is very soothing and fun to watch!
I would recommend "Pushit" off their "Salival" live album. One of their rare official live recordings, it does a great job of showing off the dynamics of every member of the band as well as their unique approach to songwriting, besides giving you a window into the weird intimacy of a Tool show. I've seen a LOT of bands live, and been to many, many shows, but Tool and Portishead were the most unique experiences of them all.
great reaction! Maynard has a passion in his vocals, like no other. Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer - ALL have hidden gems. again I will suggest you check out King Diamond - At the Graves. I think King's vocals will surprise & impress for sure. Keep em coming Anna & stay beautiful
Anna, I appreciate your attempt to speak to your English listening audience. Your analysis is very on point. Don't worry about your English. You speak English very well. I wish that I could speak Finnish, as well as you speak English. Also, I love how show facially how you feel about music You are fun to follow!!❤❤❤
9:42 - They managed to use the whole band as a vessel to deliver the full body of the message in this song
TOOL! That "vessel" is every song, on every album of Tool's.
Spiral Out,
TOOL ARMY welsomes
Yep.
I just found out that closed captioning translates to english!!! Game changer.
I so much want to listen to Tool with this girl 😮
I have watched tons of reactions to The Pot and you still managed to say some things I hadn't heard before. Great job. I love the way your eye lit up when he hit his first scream. My suggestion for next for an amazingly complex yet really approachable song would be Lateralus. Look up the Fibonacci sequence before you listen because it makes it even more impressive. As a fellow reactor who also does this, I appreciate your use of text to convey what you are thinking but not saying at the time. Editing always brings more thoughts that you can't catch at the first listen.
Yes king krimson are one of most inspiring band for Tool, my 2 preferred band.
The whole band are fans of King Crimson. Danny Carey, Tool's drummer lists Bill Brufford as one of his main influences when it comes to drumming. He said once in an interview that listening to Bill's approach on King Crmson's "Red" album was one of his turning points. Nice catch.
Yes!!! I learned something new from your reaction! I've been listening to Tool for decades now.
Happy to provide you some new insight!
"I want more"
As true as it was coined. Thanks for sharing!
Well, neighbor music lover (and everyone else), welcome to the world of progressive music which I am sure you're already dipping your toes into in for the pure love of music.
Your language is so different and interesting. I've never heard Finnish before. Great reaction to a great song.
I like the descriptions you use in your reviews. Thanks!
I saw Tool live last night. They sounded great. Maynard's voice was spectacular. My only criticism is they only played three songs I wanted to hear, but that's a me problem, really. Oh, and their light show is amazing.
Spot on with the Crimson! They are heavily influence by King Crimson, and even toured with them. Maynard sang a cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man with Robert Fripp. Great reaction, love you're musical knowledge.
Some say Tool's genius is their complex time signatures, not realizing it's the ever tasteful return to 4/4 that defines them.
Just saw Tool last night. Posted a short video of the last song of the night. 7th time to see them and never been let down.
The drummer is one of the best in the world ... and the band as a whole is on another level. More reaction videos please!!!
I think I fell in love with you, and your reaction to amazing music. Keep it up!
I'm starting to notice how much you love the drums....when you hear exceptional drumming it really catches your ear.
Another great reaction. Thanks
I'd like to say rhythm is my strength! I used to be a part of a Brazilian influenced drum band back when I was living in Scotland. I actually ended up teaching Brazilian drumming too! I just love intricate drumming patterns and polyrhythm!
Yes, the Grudge is a great example of his vocals. And if you think he held that note in this song for along time you'll be in awe of the Grudge. 11 more days before I get to go see Tool!!!! Also, if you want to see how amazing the drummer, Danny Carey is there is a drum cam video for the song Pneuma that is exceptional.
This is so new i love it i went to work there concert in Corpus Christi, texas the other day but sadly didnt get to stay and watch
So happy to have found this channel.
Thank you, Ms!
Amazing breakdown reaction. Well done 👏
love and blessings! great reaction!
Awesome song and analysis. Thank you
as always, an intelligent and pleasant classification......love TOOL
Great reaction! You felt what we all felt
Epic Tool, Gorgeous Anna
Love your reactions and love this song. Thanks, beautiful. 😉
Just found your channel through this video and its amazing! Immediately subscribed. I really enjoy your break downs and how you get into the music. I can tell you're very passionate about it and very genuine, cant wait for more Tool and Queen!
We need more Tool on this channel!! Love your obvious passion for their compositions! Sub'd for the Tool journey.
Ooh this is gonna be fun!
This is shaping up to be a great start of the day. One video with three things I love. A beautiful woman, some Tool, and those fantastic rolling R’s. Vocal analysis is appreciated as well.
