What could be better than this? My favorite Finnish reactor doing a reaction to a song by my favorite female vocalist who is the lead singer for a Finnish symphonic metal band!!! Sometimes the planets align and something wonderful happens. Thanks so much, Anna. Everyone was expecting her to metal it up, and she did it so laid back. It was beautiful, and shows off some elements of her voice that may get overlooked. Love from Mike in Chicago.

I need to tell you Epica often use harsh male vocals (death metal growls and a little of black metal screams), but if you're a metalhead, you probably don't mind. If you DO mind, then we should start with some songs that don't have harsh vocals. The duality between Mark's harsh vocals and Simone's angelic soprano represent good and evil, light and darkness, etc. The concept originated in gothic metal where it's called "beauty and the beast". So, are you OK with growls? Some Epica songs have more of it, some only have literally 20 seconds and some don't have it at all. You told us to wait a long time Anna! But it was worth it - a very nice reaction - analytical and emotional at the same time. Bradley and Lady Gaga made me know this song - and I liked it. But it was Floor that made me love this song and its version. Lady Gaga hits me in the face with her voice - and it works, it works very well. What is Floor doing? Well - Floor knows very well that if she slapped me in the face, she might accidentally kill me - and why does she need a dead fan? So he doesn't hurt me, but gently caresses my cheek with his voice. And it works much better - at least for me!
I am happy you found my reaction both informative and entertaining! 😊 I truly enjoyed making this too. Floor is so captivating. ❤️ Hahah- you are silly Marek!
Wish version? Considering I've never listen to Lady Gaga perform the song and I've heard Floor sing it maybe a hundred times, I'll let you draw your own conclusions. This being the second performance I'd heard her do (the duet with Henk being the first) it made me an instant fan for life. In fact she did several songs I found moving, from Vilja Lied to the weepy What Do I Know About Love. Excellent deconstruction Anna.
Hello Anna, very nice reaction again. In the same show she also does a duet with Tim Akkerman of this song, you really should take a look at that one too. It rocks.. As another suggestion for a reaction video I would love to see your reaction on Queen with “love of my life” live in Montreal 1981. One of my all time favorites.
I really enjoyed your breakdown of Floor’s cover….thank you for the subtitles. I prefer Floor’s rendition…as a listener, any song that can brings out emotions …well…it’s nice!
I'm not a metal fan but floor always sounds amazing, 🙄👍 whatever she sings is beautiful.😏 Also, Anna, 🎤your voice is so good.🌟🌟🌟🌟👍👍 Thanks. Great video.
You are correct about the autotune it was actually interfering in the perfection of the voice of both Floor and Henk Poort. Henk is a professional Opera singer and didn't need autotune either. Why on earth can't they switch it off for singers that don't need it. You should check out Floor and Henk singing Phantom of the Opera and Floor singing Vilja Lied for Henk, both on this show. This show was where they met, he was one of her childhood hero's being the Dutch Phantom, they have become friends and Henk has been on her solo tour of The Netherlands before lockdown. They have also done a cover of Dangerous Game from the Jekyll and Hyde musical. You can find that on her UA-cam channel (Floor Jansen).
It is such a shame that the production team feels the need to "polish" their performances. The results always ends up cutting away the life and soul from the singer's voice. What a cute love story they have. ❤️ I'll check their Jekyll and Hyde for sure! xx
Thänks Anna! Tää oli hienoa analytiikkaa taas, en pitkään aikaan ollutkaan katsellut näitä Beste Zangersin klippejä. Tunteisiin uiva veto... Otappa tuolta myös se Floorin ja Henkin versio Phantomista käsittelyyn. Ja Nightwishilta vaikkapa Yours is an Empty Hope, niin saadaan Flooriltakin vähän growlia kuunteluun... 😎

Oh...It ended right in the middle of typing my next comment. I never realized that artists plan so much detail into every phrase and note. Also, I wonder if Diana Ankudinova will ever use auto- tune and will anyone know it? Thanks for the visit Anna, It was nice to see you.
Nicoo! ❤️ I am sorry it took so long for me to answer to this! Artists of this level will plan a lot of the smallest nuances in their performances! There are different levels to auto-tune, so sometimes it is hard to know if the singer is using it. Diana sure does not need it though! Be well Nico xx

Nice reaction and break down. You should really react to. 'How's the Heart' acoustic.. it is beautiful and she shows such restraint and power, what control she has.
Hi Anna, I found you last night reacting to “Ava Maria”, with Floor & Marko, & loved your reaction. I am an American, & Floor Jansen fan, & have gotten very nerdy about the reactions I like, I didn’t even know I was this technically interested, not being a singer, although always enjoyed singing in my younger years. Anyway, I believe Floor owns “ Shallow” now. Sorry Lady Gaga. Not sure if you saw this show, but she chose this song to sing to the young woman in red; why they keep showing her. Later into the series she sings it again, more in align with Gaga’s version with Tim Akkerman. Would love to hear your opinion on that one. She also did Phantom of the Opera, with Henke Porte, & Mama, also a very different presentation for her. Would love to hear your thoughts on these. I enjoyed this, & “Fire”, that I listened to before this. I see the hearts, & it seems it is only recently both Finland, & Netherlands have gotten on board seriously with Floor, & NW, very mysterious to me, as a old rocker girl! 😉
A few months ago, early in the morning on my way to work, I selected a radio station and a man's voice was singing "... shaahallow ..." and a woman was trying to reach and fill in the notes. In my thoughts I started to support her: more expression with more subtleties, more power with ease, ... just more like Floor. Hmm .. which band I know would put this cover version on the radio, I know the female voice ... Lady Gaga ... the coffee has started to work ... that's the original! ... I'm so used to Floors Version!
I have seen this performance by Floor several times, and this is also subject of several reaction video's, as she shows in this song what she is capable of (however in Phantom of the opera, together with opera singer Henk Poort, also from the same season of Beste Zangers, she shows even more, the tent almost collapsed because there was a thunderstorm outside that was an extra touch to their performance). Loads of people are astounded by what Floor can do, because this is their first encounter with her. The first concert I was at, where Floor sang (with After Forever) is over 20 years ago, so I already knew her capabilities, however, I am still touched by this song every time. So now I am curious to see what you think of it, let's watch your reaction now.
So, now I have seen the whole video, I can say that you got the point of the song as intended by Floor (like Wasna troef also said). Start very small, and let the chorus flow out naturally. Still the band didn't fill in all the details but let Floor's voice do the job. I prefer this version over the Lady gaga version, as Floor sings so easily, seems effortless, where Lady Gaga is at the top of what she can do. There is also a version from the same show where she sings Shallow as a duet with Tim Akkerman, like the original. Actually that whole season was a killer, so many good performances, like Emma Heestermans who rose to fame after that season.
@@annavaskelainen Here is another song from Beste zangers. Maria Fiselier is an opera singer and here she goes rapping Eminem, she didn't miss one word. ua-cam.com/video/8YyuIkVSx-8/v-deo.html
The weird thing is, Floor doesn't need Autotune at all. If all vocalists were on pitch like her, that wouldn't even exist. Testament to that is, that you can only hear autotune at all here, when she does a slide. ;)
Listening to the part Anna mentioned over and over again, I can still hardly hear it. Not really robotic to me at all compared to some other auto-tune.
I 100% agree she does not need autotune. 😊 Yes, it is good to be able to sing at as masterful level as she does, but to polish it even more from that just takes the life and soul out of the performance don't you think?
@@annavaskelainen Autotune is like Photoshop. The singing just isn't real anymore. Vocals don't need to be perfect. They need to be beautiful and genuine. If a singer doesn't grab you live, without Autotune, if her/she is off pitch a lot, he/she has nothing to do on a stage. And if a vocalist does only sound good in studio stuff, he/she doesn't deserve a record deal because he/she just is not good.
Listening to you speak brings fond memories of my youth. Also, you have the best breakdowns of these performances. Please add Caro Emerald to your list to check out.

Anna, let's not leave you out of that beautiful list! I think I prefer Floors cover, maybe it's just because I've just heard it more? I do have a suggestion, Mike Mills from Toehider. His own writing is also different, but in the rock sense. Stay safe Anna and happy, you have a beautiful smile.

@@annavaskelainen that's true. One can absolutely say that she did sing it right since she had no duet partner. It works both ways due to how the lyrics are written. It's just the way she reacted herself and that small sigh she made, that at least makes me believe that she sang "wrong". And it looks so cute when she does it. Our Valkyrie Queen could sing the manual to a vacuum cleaner and people would still be in a trance. Hahaha. Oh and great reaction by the way. If you DO mind, then we should start with some songs that don't have harsh vocals.
The duality between Mark's harsh vocals and Simone's angelic soprano represent good and evil, light and darkness, etc. The concept originated in gothic metal where it's called "beauty and the beast". The musicians are from different music genres, different walks of life & with different skills & strengths to bring to the show. It's truly a great concept & I'm so happy for The Beste Zangers' Band & for Floor, Henk, NW for everything that's happened since Floor's appearance in 2019.
An absolutely exquisite rendition and so beautiful to witness such a magnificent artist ! Floor is truly a captivating and passionate singer ! She captured my heart and grabbed my soul completely with this performance ! Thank you Anna , I'm just getting into all your reactions/analysis of Floor ! She's got me following her journey now ! You always have the very best on your channel ! Much love Anna ! God bless ! 👍🇨🇦❤️
What a well considered reaction. Floor sings every song how she thinks is most suitable. Her empathy is without measure. There are no mediocre performances on her UA-cam channel and she appears to be a beautiful soul.
Thank you Clive! 😊 Floor truly is an ARTIST.
Floor Jansen is not just an astounding vocalist but a force of nature.
well said there.
It's somehow a form of torture, to wait 7 days for your reaction to "Shallow" with Floor ... but I'm convinced it's worth the wait.

Aww Gabe.❤️ Would Thursday premiere be any better? xx
@@annavaskelainen Certainly it was worth the wait :)
I remember that when Floor performed this cover in 2019, she took everyone by surprise with her approach, including Nightwish fans. Obviously, I prefer this version, because the emotional impact is major, compared to the initial version. I have a lump in my throat every time I listen to it, for 2 years now. The way Floor conveys the message is subtle, delicate and efficient at the same time. You're listening, and you don't know what hit you.
@@gabriel.bardac Hi Gabriel. It sounded just as good when she did this live during het solo tour. People were all listening quietly, mesmerized, loving it.

Floor's version is best to me, but I will admit my bias. No worries Allen- better late than never! I am pretty late myself catching up with all the messages haha. 😂 Good to know you eventually got the CC! Floor really touches me too. Be well Allen! xx
Floor explained in the show that the whole idea was to keep the song "small", the song is building up naturally, and the challenge was to keep it small & very fragile, where the initial expectation of the audience was that she would belt it out
Yep. She also said it was partly an idea from that show great band.
@@luisendymion9080 yeah Floor really liked the studio band -- for a good reason too, it's good! -- to the point to asking this band if they would tour with her.

It was fun watching this show and having Floor get up to sing and being asked by the young Dutch Reggaeton singer, Rolf Sanchez, "Are you going to do it in your own version, Floor?" Anna great job with your reaction and analysis of Floor Jansen singing Shallow from Lady Gaga . it's one of the best covers out there of this Song.
much agreed!
Isn't it amazing that when Floor does a cover of a song, more often than not, it's better than the original artist. An absolute talent.
Fantastic review of floor, Jansen.
I truly enjoyed making this too. Floor is so captivating. ❤️
Hahah- you are silly Marek!
I can totally understand why this performance would make you a fan of hers! 😊
Thank you for popping in and dropping me a comment. xx

I'll check their Jekyll and Hyde for sure! xx

Lady Gaga ... the coffee has started to work ... that's the original! ... I'm so used to Floors Version!
hahaha!
A famous vocal coach, an American, said that Floor is better than Gaga.
Totally agree with that comment.
Hail the Goddess 😎😁🤩
Good one.
thx! ❤️
Hi Casper! I'm glad to know you enjoyed this one! Floor truly made the song her own.😊🙏
@@annavaskelainen Here is another song from Beste zangers. Maria Fiselier is an opera singer and here she goes rapping Eminem, she didn't miss one word.

Most likely due to low sampling of video audio compression ...
I 100% agree she does not need autotune. 😊 Yes, it is good to be able to sing at as masterful level as she does, but to polish it even more from that just takes the life and soul out of the performance don't you think?
the level of autotune can be adjusted a lot! Some channels use it more than others.
@@annavaskelainen
Autotune is like Photoshop.

Ei hitto! Tätä kyllä odotan. Floor Jansen on upea artisti, joka vangitsee pelkällä olemuksellaan. En aikaisemmin kauheasti välittänyt metallimusiikista, mutta tämän naisen lauluääni teki lähtemättömän vaikutuksen ja sai ylipäätään kiinnostumaan laulutekniikoista.

Anna, let's not leave you out of that beautiful list! I think I prefer Floors cover, maybe it's just because I've just heard it more? I do have a suggestion, Mike Mills from Toehider. I think he will give your analysis a run for its money. I believe that I saw you did Ayreon "The Day That the World Breaks Down ", he's the singer that did the "101100" sequence. His own writing is also different, but in the rock sense. Stay safe Anna and happy, you have a beautiful smile.
Floor loves to save the most powerful belts for the last part. Therefore if Floor participates in Ayreon metal songs where multiple top vocalists appear in the song, she is often one of the last coming in. Except for the Valley of the Queens where she sings in a trio. Just search Floor Jansen and Ayreon.

That sigh you heard may be that I believe (other say I'm wrong, I don't) Is that she sings GIRL instead of BOY in the second verse. You can see her own reaction right after she sings it.
Excellent point! I thought about that too briefly but then again she doesn't have a duo partner so why would she change the sex?
@@annavaskelainen that's true. One can absolutely say that she did sing it right since she had no duet partner. It works both ways due to how the lyrics are written. It's just the way she reacted herself and that small sigh she made, that at least makes me believe that she sang "wrong". And it looks so cute when she does it. Our Valkyrie Queen could sing the manual to a vacuum cleaner and people would still be in a trance. Hahaha. Oh and great reaction by the way.

Dream On
Floor for me
Heaven in Hiding by Imminence
❤️🎵
👍👍👍
🥰
Gaga gave me chills. Floor Gave me chills, goosebumps, and tears, even now, after hearing this version after more than a hundred times.
❤️
Jos Floor tarjoais siulle oppitunteja, menisitkö? A) viivana B) jahka joudan?
Hih. 😊 No olisi ainakin kiva jutella eri tekniikoista ja jamitella! (viivana)
@@annavaskelainen niin vähän oletinkin...
Kävitkö katsomassa Oulun tai Kuopion keikkoja?
En päässyt, olen itse keikkaillut jonkin verran ja valmistellut tulevaa lukukautta.
Haaveissa olisi nähdä heidät livenä pian tosin!
The WARNING you need to check them out .
You are finnish! did you forget about NIGHTWISH? ☺🤘👌👍✊✌☺

Tulihan se sieltä.. 🤔😎 Kannattaa kattoo sit nää kaikki..
Hi Anna, in your video I would recommend to comment both versions of Shallow, Floor's solo version as well as her duo version with Tim Akkerman, same show of Beste Zangers 2019, although other episode. It would be appreciated comparing the duo version also versus the original version of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Not as goal to check which one is better, but to examine the different used styles and vocal techniques. Looking forward to the clear reactions in your video as always and thanks in advance.
Tim's start in the duo also "floored" me. While playing the guitar. And he performed in 3 duos that day. Take a bow Tim ;)
Ammattilainen työssään, enkä tarkoittanut Flooria ;)
Hih! Kiitos! 😊
