I love the little detail about Jakarta having trouble on the news during breakfast. Jakarta is one of the world's leading mill locations for flour which is probably how the spread started. That being said Joel, Tommy, and Sarah all could have been infected numerous times before everything kicked off. Didn't have pancake mix so no pancakes. Didn't eat the biscuits offered by the Adlers. Sarah didn't eat the cookies after finding out they were raisin. And Joel forgot the birthday cake, all of which contain flour and surely would have resulted in them becoming infected.

As someone who's played and finished the first game like 5 times, I'll never forget the frst time I played The Last of US. I loved the premier, I love that you went into this blind. I think that's the best way to do a reaction. looking forward to watching episode 2, and getting your reaction! :D
Casting Gabriel Luna was the perfect choice for Tommy. He only needed to lean a little bit into his Texan accent to perfectly capture Tommy's cadence from the video game.
The game is a masterpiece of storytelling, and one of my 3 favorite games, even though I never played it. I just watched a couple of full playthroughs. The show's first episode promises this show will be great. I hope the remaining episodes live up to the expectations.
I am not kinding when I say I have seen 7 different reactions to this first episode, and I am not tired of it yet. I had so many fears and concerns when this was announced just the words video game adaption scares me because they have slaughtered a lot of amazing games with creative liberties over the years. So to see these so true to the source material and performed so amazing by the actors is such a relief and joy. looking forward to the next episode. Bad batch season 2, last of us and legend of vox machina season 2 it is a good time to be a nerd. Glad you are doing this show like the rest of youtube :D

The video game is basically developed as a movie if you ever happen to play it. It's all cinematic the entire way. And yes, they nailed this first episode, especially the first moment and death 🥲
First of all - glad you enjoyed it. Second, I’ve really been loving these first time reactions having played the game myself and it is one of my very favourites. No spoilers for future episodes but this is so faithful as an adaptation you wouldn’t believe. There are moments literally straight from the game like the Car journey, “that scene” which I assure you they absolutely nailed. The scene in the flat is identical apart from the radio and code, that’s new. But there are also so many things they added that enhance our viewing as a gamer very familiar with this story like Sarah’s day which they really expanded. The game starts with Sarah on the couch when Joel comes home from work. We also got to meet the neighbours, and then there’s things like the plane causing the crash and not being T-boned by another truck. So much they added but always well within the scope. Here, Ellie’s introduction is earlier. There’s more depth to the Firefly’s and we see more of life in the QZ with Joel and Tess. The last scene is almost identical with Ellie stabbing the soldier in the leg and Tess finding the scanner is positive. Then it’s off into the unknown. As an adaptation it’s so respectful of its source and tweaks a few things for TV, like we don’t need Robert’s whole mission to find him because it basically acts as a tutorial although Robert’s fate is pretty much the same. It’s their guns he sells to the Firefly’s. He still winds up just as dead. I honestly can’t fault it and it’s great to see how well it stands on its own without prior knowledge of the game. You’re in for an exciting time. So enjoy and great Reaction video 🙂
10/10 One of the best pilot episodes I've ever seen. The pilot episode is one of the best pilots I've ever seen even surpassing that of the Walking Dead. The introduction gave clarity and showed the individual struggles people had to cope with. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they build the characters and how they develop the relationships and attempt to match that of the game. Zombie TV shows and films have been done millions of times before and often lack creativity but this so far has a breath of fresh air and if like the games concentrates on human emotion and connection then I think it'll do incredibly well and I can't wait to watch the rest of the series.

11:10 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game and reactions x times and knew what was happening. I was very skeptical about Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie. But they do it incredibly well. It feels straight out of the game. Also the others ... Nico as Sarah, Gabriel as Tommy, Anna as Tess. All done great. Merle as Marlene anyway cause it's the same actress as in the game. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out. I can assure you, you will experience a great roller coaster ride of emotions. The game is a masterpiece and the show looks like to top it

When this game first came out in 2013, I had been anticipating it so much I booked the day off work for the release date. I cried in the first fifteen minutes. No videogame, let alone film, has ever made me do that. My second favourite game of ALL TIME.

The purpose of the 1968 intro was to establish there are fungi that do take over the body, but the fungi won't survive in humans but has no reason to evolve to warmer temperatures, but introduce "global warming" the average temperature would only need to move up a small number of degrees, for the fungus to adapt to survive the temperature of the average human body. In the entire intro, it is mentioned that a strain of fungus referenced did not thrive about 94F, the average human temperature is 98.6F (This is a difference of only 4.6F or 22.556C) flash forward to 2003 (35 years later, when the concern of global warming has been in some media reports for a couple decades.) we have the 'outbreak' I use fractions, decimals and some algebraic formulas on a fairly regular basis. Mostly because I'm an American, but so many people I know are from countries more acclimated to the metric system, so it makes more sense for me to do quick "approximate " conversions than to give them the measurements typically used here. For example 1 gallon is basically 3.8 liters, every degree of Celsius change is 1.8 Fahrenheit change, of every degree Fahrenheit is 5/9 Celsius, simple offset of 0C = 32F and you have your conversion.1 kilogram is 2.2 pounds, 1 meter is 39 inches or 3.25 feet. Why is it zooming into these times? So you have an idea how fast this all is happening. The news after 7am in Texas, there's news of a major disturbance in Jakarta, life in Texas is normal. Sarah goes to school and there's little unusual going on, no alerts shutting down schools, etc. 11 PM we've seen a lot of emergency vehicles in action, and hear it's been all day, there's a national alert saying stay where you are and emergency services will be in contact with instructions. In the course of what should have simply been Joel's 36th birthday, starts as a normal day with some incident in Asia being mentioned on the news, seemingly a normal day to losing his daughter and being shot at by a soldier before the night is out. I'd never seen Nico Parker before, and being familiar with the game, I knew Sarah wouldn't make it. They kept a lot from the game but changed things here and there so it's not "just aa live action version of the game" and Nico Parker made it impossible for me to not adore Sarah. I will be watching for new work from her, but she's set the bar pretty high in my eyes. When they have the boy who collapsed outside the Quarantine Zone and tested him, on the wall behind the lady talking to him was a sign listing symptoms of infection, and another sign reflecting how long a bite takes to achieve full infection based on the location of the bite. Extremities like a hand or foot there's actually time if you act quickly, to amputate to stop the infection. This is why in a scene not in your reaction video, we saw several people missing and arm or a leg, and why things like shoelaces were being sold separately. (If I only have one foot, why should I have to buy 2 shoelaces?)

A few embellishments like the 1968 prologue, the elderly neighbors, the wandering boy and the FEDRA guard customer actually add context and enhance the drama. Neil Druckmann, who created the game, is producing the show and HBO is obviously letting him influence the production. Craig Mazin, the showrunner, previously produced "Chernobyl". That wasn't a clump of hair in the old lady's mouth but fungal tendrils. As John Hannah's scientist explained, the fungi seeks to propagate so these zombies don't feed on you but instead seek to transmit the spore aggressively. As the cordyceps fungi blooms it erupts out of the central nervous system of the host in several horrific stages ultimately rendering the body into a moldy tableau plastered to the wall. The spores were airborne in the game requiring the use of gas masks in areas of high concentration but the show will be dispensing with that since an airborne contaminant would have afflicted everyone in 20 years except those in hermetically sealed rooms. That's the reason for the vector being fungal tendrils extending from the mouths of the infected in the show. The increased temperature serving as a catalyst was a new explanation provided in the show to reference the issue of climate change. The actress playing Marlene, Merle Dandridge, actually portrayed the same character in the game! The '60's scientist was played by John Hannah known for "Four Weddings and a Funeral", the Brendan Fraser "Mummy" franchise, "Spartacus" and "Agents of SHIELD". Anna Torv, who plays Tess, is best known for "Fringe". Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are both "Game of Thrones" alums known for Prince Oberyn and Lyanna Mormont, respectively. Pascal is, of course, Din Djarin as well from "The Mandalorian". Uncle Tommy is played by Gabriel Luna who portrayed the Robbie Reyes iteration of Ghost Rider in "Agents of SHIELD". Nico Parker, who stole the show as Sarah, is Thandie Newton's daughter! The video game is one of the most extraordinary journeys you can take that will haunt you forever. The sequel is highly controversial but even darker and deeper than the original!
Great reaction, you can watch game playthoughs, you would be amazed how any parts in the show is in the game. Including lines spoken line by line. Again, this is a great reaction reaction.
This series can now be added to the list of great video game adaptations, hope you enjoy the story, it definitely has plenty of special moments. They really did a good job of building Sarah up so you actually felt something when she got killed whereas In the game you formed your attachment by playing as Sarah. Fun fact Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker who voiced Ellie and Joel in the game actually play different characters in this series

Pretty good if you like looter-shooters with insane progression and lots of grinding, the first game feels like a prototype of the second game, and the third one has a pretty bad story but way better gameplay than either two. It's also very pretty. Second one is probably my favorite.
The whole story is built on the relationship between Joel and Ellie, and all further events will bind them more and more tightly in order to lead to a certain denouement... you'll see)
Ah sad the moments Ellie stabs the guard and the moment they discover Ellie is positive aren't showed in the video. They kinda are pretty huge moments!

Oh yes, you have taken a seat on an emotional rollercoaster, so buckle up. This first episode is actually episodes 1 & 2. The original episode 1 was supposed to end when Joel dumped the boy's body in the fire. Btw, you averaged one 'bloody' every two minutes.
Do yourself a favour and avoid reading anything about the show, even the episode descriptions. This story is best when knowing nothing about it. Enjoy the ride.
The only spoiler I will give to anyone is that you do not have to worry about animals in this series. Cordyceps is the Fungi infecting everyone and it is extremely specific to what it infects. Cordyceps for Moths ONLY affects Moths, Cordyceps for Ants ONLY affects that type of ant. So being Cordyceps adapted to Humans not only are animals safe from infection, but the infected wont even look at them as either a prey source or something to spread to. They are blind to animals, and that is just the science of the Fungi. So don't worry about the animals :D

So our strain would be specialized to us, however a completely separate strain could evolve for each species of animal.

Amazing Episode, Amazing Reaction - Joel & Sarah's scene is so heartbreaking - both in-game and now in live action - overall, a phenomenal episode!

This series can now be added to the list of great video game adaptations, hope you enjoy the story, it definitely has plenty of special moments. They really did a good job of building Sarah up so you actually felt something when she got killed whereas In the game you formed your attachment by playing as Sarah. Fun fact Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker who voiced Ellie and Joel in the game actually play different characters in this series

If you are about 50 feet from a town which literally has hundreds of infected being mind controlled by a infectious fungus, I ain't gonna take any chances.
The series will get more intense as it goes on we only saw a few infected so far.

Pretty good if you like looter-shooters with insane progression and lots of grinding, the first game feels like a prototype of the second game, and the third one has a pretty bad story but way better gameplay than either two. It's also very pretty. Second one is probably my favorite.

Oh yes, you have taken a seat on an emotional rollercoaster, so buckle up. This first episode is actually episodes 1 & 2. The original episode 1 was supposed to end when Joel dumped the boy's body in the fire. Btw, you averaged one 'bloody' every two minutes.

Do yourself a favour and avoid reading anything about the show, even the episode descriptions. This story is best when knowing nothing about it. Enjoy the ride.
The only spoiler I will give to anyone is that you do not have to worry about animals in this series. Cordyceps is the Fungi infecting everyone and it is extremely specific to what it infects. Cordyceps for Moths ONLY affects Moths, Cordyceps for Ants ONLY affects that type of ant.
So being Cordyceps adapted to Humans not only are animals safe from infection, but the infected wont even look at them as either a prey source or something to spread to. They are blind to animals, and that is just the science of the Fungi. So don't worry about the animals :D
However, the fungus mutated to infect humans. It can mutate again to infect cats or dogs.
@@jd-zr3vk It can but it would have to be a completely different strain. The species that infects ants cant infects moths, just ants. The one that infects moths cant infect ants, just moths. So our strain would be specialized to us, however a completely separate strain could evolve for each species of animal.
