Gabriel Luna was the only cast member (not counting actors like Merle Dandridge who had actually played roles in the games)who had played and loved the games before getting hired. Its amazing that Mazin and Druckmann just let him mimic game Tommy's voice like that and I love it.
9:25 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game x times and knew what was happening. I was very skeptical about Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie. But they do it incredibly well. It feels straight out of the game. Also the others ... Nico as Sarah, Gabriel as Tommy, Anna as Tess. All done great. Merle as Marlene anyway cause it's the same actress as in the game. The fact it is 2023 at the end makes it more creepier in my opinion. It happens right exactly NOW! My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out.

That explanation of how fungus works plus how it could evolve to adapt to higher temperatures because of something like global warming... That gave me chills. After watching so many zombie movies in which there's not much insight on how it would even be possible for something like that to happen, making the whole idea pure fiction, this one right here is probably the most realistic scenario on how a zombie (or whatever) apocalypse could actually happen. And I still can't believe Sarah's death always gets me.

You’re reaction was great. I don’t think the No spores will affect this season much, they play more of a role in Part 2 to the actual story. The only person in part 1 we see infected by spores is the guy you kill for the aiming tutorial. And they only show up in 4 places, the tunnel with Tess, The Subway after you leave the Capitol Building, The Hotel basement in Pittsburg and The Dorms at the University.
I still think it's an odd choice to change it. The fungi tendrils sprouting from the mouth at will seem a lot less realistic than the spores, and infections are much less likely to spread if the only way is through those tendrils. I don't think it'll change that much for this season, but I wish they had kept the spores, maybe just making them less frequent.
@@IloveAliBromley Yeah I get that, which is why I said they could've just made it less frequent. There are obviously ways to get around the issue, so it shouldn't be a huge problem if happens once or twice throughout the show.

The spores were omitted from the TV show cause I think one of the show writers said it would be insanely unrealistic that anyone in the apocalypse would have been able to super tiny millions of sporing that are airborne gas masks or not. So the spores were replaced with Tendrils for the show.

Thank for you for that really great reaction. Many people, reactors at least, who watch Last of US haven't seen Fringe which is a real shame. A lot have seen Mindhunter but not all. Anna Torv is amazing in both those series. I went into this show completely blind so 1. Had no idea the daughter was going to die, that was quite shocking, and 2. very surprised and pleased that Anna Torv is in this, well in the first 2 episodes at the very least. Really excited for tonight's episode, so super looking forward to that reaction when it comes out!
I saw a few reactions before seeing yours and I can say this is the truest one so far, and yes we all cried dw 😂😂 About spores I was a bit disappointed ngl but other than that it’s 9,9/10
You just know a lot of the changes they have taken when comparing from game to series is stuff they wanted to do but changed for some reason, like the delving of the "why" the fungus evolved and how far it has since the initial outbreak. Take the opening kid for example. The fungus knew just how to lure non infected people using the kid to try and keep the spreading going. It shuffled "zombie" like to the city then once adults spotting him, falls to the ground to bait. The writers wanted to give you an example of what the guy in the beginning was talking about when he said its goal was to control and spread.
Saw something that said they decided to not use spores because the spores and the wind would cause the disease to spread faster and it would be too unrealistic to think that the diseased spores could be contained and not spread by the wind so they went a different route.
Love they kept Gustavo to make the show's score. The atmosphere built by it in the game will never be as good without it. The cinematography captures the tone it needed, the slight changes they made just did the series service. And of course the superb acting of the entire cast.
This exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait for the rest. No spores is fine and better for TV/movie purposes, as well as more realistic. I saw in an interview with the Showrunner/Co-Writer they changed this due to if there were spores in the air like the game, then people would have to wear masks far too often, in some cases even outside, and have to do a decontamination shower every time they encountered them. It’d be all over their clothes, which they’d all inhale after taking the mask off and become infected. Season 2 will definitely be picked up and TLOU 2 is almost twice as long of a storyline as TLOU 1. So, they’ll split that into 2 seasons. If TLOU 3 comes out before they get past 2, that’d be an additional 2 more seasons. Neil Druckman, the writer/creator/director of the game, said they will not go past the source material like Game of Thrones.
That last bit is really reassuring! Also, fair thing with the spores. Too much hassle & infections would be extremely hard to avoid. Although… I’d love to see a new twist on a *somewhat* similar topic that was already tackled by Mazin in Chernobyl
Not only because of the masks the spores were removed, but because they were completely illogical from a game point of view. There is no local limit for spores. Spores simply exist everywhere. And even if they were localized, how does everyone know when to put on their masks? For this you need clairvoyant abilities, because once you see these spores, you have already inhaled them. I would look forward to at least 3 seasons. This one is part 1. Season 3 would be part 2 and season 2 takes place in between. So there is also time for Bella to get a little older and Season 3 would hit even stronger. In season 2, apart from the flashbacks of part 2, the makers could once freely write stories.
It's a lot of tweaks in both OBS (chain of colour filters and adjustments) & logitech webcam software to make it look a bit less shit than it does straight out of the box lol I might do a video on that one day, maybe it'd be helpful

The show itself does a good job in staying faithful, despite changing things here and there, but all the major plot points are there. Some changes I even prefer, like the plane crash, or the single but very fast runner vs the couple slow ones in the game. This also gave a little red herring with the soldier, which could've been Tommy with his rifle (instead of Joel's revolver), due to the single shot fired vs the auto fire in the game. And we don't got spores, but we've got sexy mouth tendrils instead. The cast nailed it too so far imo, which is exactly why you go with actors and not with cosplayers. But I know most of the hate came from the gamergate incels anyway, calling Bella Ramsey a "thing" and being angry that they "replaced white people". They've been hating on the franchise for years now, ever since they couldn't cope with Part 2. Deranged bunch.
Thankfully, I managed to dodge a lot of the hate towards the series / casting. Wasn't so lucky when Part II was about to come out 🙃 Making the first game into a two-parter would probably make the show more difficult to pitch & could mean they wouldn't get to tell the whole story if it didn't get renewed (doubtful, with this crew, but still) Also, I completely missed that other butterfly, thanks for mentioning it!

I don't think that many people are looking forward to TLoU2 as a live show. If anything Neil needs to change a lot for the narrative to be smoother and less experimentalist than in the game with all those time jumps. There are a lot of issues with it.
