Mongol Arrival: Part 24, July 20, 2017 - First Contact with Mongols: Part 49, October 15, 2017 - First proper (city) battle with Mongols: TBD (although at this rate, January 2018) It only took 25 parts, and just shy of 3 months to make contact.
Jon! You waste so much money by bribing in bulk! Instead of giving the Pope 5K in one lump, do it in 100 florins chunks and you'll get waaaaay more value for money. It takes a lot longer but it's so much better value! You'd have probably have got back up to around 7 or 8 out of 10 Pope Points for that amount of money, if not higher. Also get 4 merchants trained and sent over to Constantinople! The 4 silk there are worth loads! Also think about doing the same for Timbuktu, the ivory and gold there are worth an utter fortune; 1K per merchant! Per turn! You can get 3 or 4 extra armies out of proper merchant use!
yeah he just stopped bothering with merchants some time ago, the thing is jon is not good at micomanaging, and i think thats why he is not bribing the pope the way you said it
Romarod 27 He wastes soooo much money with his poor management. On the battle map he is very adept (although prone to using scouts like proper cavalry), but on the campaign map he is woeful.
i think its just because, as i said, jon really doesnt like micromanaging and bad at it, but about battles, i think he could do better, with his low perception and forgetting what he ordered to his troops, and not checking on them like letting those scouts die in the defence of ajaccio, misclicking the wrong troops and to my mind many things, im just complaining because like, for example where he wins a battle and loses 400 men, he could easily get on with losing 200, but i think its just that he really knows the game inside out, (i mean if you know what you are doing, its really hard to lose a battle in total war), so he doesnt really forces himself to do his absolute best and doesnt bother with every minor detail, and also, it must be hard playing the game and commentating at the same time, so if its not a big mistake, im ok with it, of course we get frustrated, but as i said, he is playing the game and commentating at the same time, so i think we can give him odd slip or two, and i mean, come on, we all know he will win the game easily anyway, so it doesnt matter i guess.
He is a competent battlefield commander, but borderline incompetent sometimes with regards to the strategy map. I honestly have to wonder if he actually has a disability due to so many blunders of his. It is starting to become annoying to be honest. Still, he is far better than whatever I have been able to muster. He has actually managed to beat the game for one, where as I have not. And at least he has good play overall. So there is that.
as i said, i think its just that playing the game and commentating at the same time must be tiresome, multitasking that way would make you miss some stuff, as long as its not a huge mistake im ok with it
I remember getting caught on that time glitch in the past. Years late obviously, but you can use the hotkeys even when the UI is hidden. P toggles pause. F toggles special abilities, C tight/loose formation, A fire at will, S skirmish mode, W withdraw, R run and D guard mode are the most noteworthy. Ctrl+M/B/I/C/A are also useful, for selecting all missile troops, artillery, infantry, cavalry or everyone respectively.
the mongols do actually have gunpowder weapons earlier than anyone else, don't forget it was invented around 1000 AD in China and the Mongols come from far East of Europe
A talking bird!!! How suspiciously pagan... *sharpens knife* I wonder how much money the Inquisition could make by inventing a gunpowder taxidermied bird
Gunpowder is your Horde salvation. Seriously, cannon towers are beyond overpowered against the big, fat target that is a full stack army. They're disgusting. Build them, then just sally out against the enemy army....you don't need to do anything, the cannon towers will just tear them to pieces.
The Daily Dane The Danes Poke A Bear! The danish want to poke a bear with a stick. Prodding bears usually end bad, but the Danes may know what they are doing. Also, the obituaries are below Mongolian bumbling Episode 29 to Episode 49 Rest In Peace
1. As far as I'm aware, I don't think he can yet. A tile pops up at a certain point talking about rumors of a New World or something along those lines (It's been a very long time since I played Medieval TW). 2. Yes.
Jon... once again, the guy was on the road.. that's the "for whatever reason" you couldn't build the watch tower. Also... damnit archers AREN'T indirect fire.
Hi all, I've never played the total war series - but was hooked after watching Jon's playthrough of the original - and is it just me who thinks that this series is far easier to 'watch' than its warhammer incarnation. The UI is so much cleaner and simpler, and I'm wondering how much of a part that's played in viewer retention. My eyes hurt just thinking about warhammer... Peaceout mother lovers, and cheers Jon!
Agreed. I've never played Warhammer and haven't seen Jon's videos on it yet, but I can't really enjoy the campaign of the TW games in between Medieval 2 and Warhammer because of the UI. IDK what it is, but the IU for this and the original Rome TW was really good and I don't know why they changed it in subsequent games.
The UI is the main reason I haven't played any of the TW games since M2TW with the exception of Shogun 2 which I thought was really well done. It's just that damn battle engine that was bothering me in that one.
+RRW I agree. It didn't look broken, so why fix it? I can understand the need to look different, being its own series, but the aesthetic is one of style over purpose.
that one unit in Stauffen could've taken out 2 of your men for each 1 it lost if it played that siege smart, but it completely screwed it up and got slaughtered
A small question, why do you care what the Pope thinks about you anymore you're at war with everyone, what the hell is the Pope going to do to you? Yell at you from the Pope mobile?
Yeah, but at this point, if he pulls of a competent blitz none of that would really matter. The other factions are too small to do crap, and even if the Pope did call a crusade it wouldn't amount to much, because they would get one more stack at most.
True true. It's more the economic damage it'd do that would hinder Jon. But for the sake of a little showmanship it's nice to pretend there are stakes involved.
Read's Title: What... This is Total war, not bloody Fallout. LEAVE THE NCR ALONE! Thinks for a second: Hang on... Right, Common phrase. Thinks for a bit longer: WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL IT "Anger the Horde"! Thinks for even longer: Oh well, Total war from MATN. I'm just gonna shut up and watch it.
I love the Mongol Strategy. Wait and pretend like they are indecisive so you send units to prod at them, where they then smash those units and then attack the cities that sent those troops since they'd use up some forces. True genius. Except the fact Jon has more troops that a single unit of scouts. Also, you shoudl rename Halych to Hal-Itch so you can just easily say it correctly xD
I can just imagine a noob at M2:TW going "Hey, there's some what, Norse Archers? My town militia should be able to take on some crappy archers." And then watching as the Norse Archers absolutely destroy the militia, before furiously posting on forums that the archers are OP since they can 1V1 a unit of spearmen.
Know that feeling you get when you hear someone use the word "irregardless"? That's how I feel every time Jon says "indirect fire". Alternative would be indirect damage. (I don't care if irregardless is how acceptable, I still can't help facepalming when someone uses it.)
You should send a diplomat to the Mongols and gift them Adana. When stuff like this happens to me (Mongols not doing anything is a known bug afaik) I gift them a settlement. Then they have borders, and they percieve neighbouring factions as a threat so they start rapidly rampaging around.
attacking enemy forces in your regions shouldn't be considered an act worth excommunication, war yes because you're attacking them but not excommunication or any penalties on your reputation
Jon just let Portugal have Wales because they are just a small unstable Kingdom looking for friends so just give them Wales, call for peace and maybe money here and there and who knows at the end of the day you could be allies.
Just lost Antioch in my game, after fighting off wave after wave of mongols on the field of battle (river crossings!) I started sending my forces back out to conquer the last few middle eastern regions then 4 new stacks I didn't know about showed up in my weakened middle eastern core.
I’m goin through some shit rn. My crush has a boyfriend and keeps posting torturous shit on her snap and this series is one of the few happy things in my week. PS I know Timurid Horde saw me comment something similar on LegendofTotalWar’s channel
Joey Kevorkian I know the feeling pal. You’ll get through it. You’ve just got to remember, if you two were really meant for each other, she’ll come around. If she doesn’t, there is probably someone way better out there waiting for you. Hope this helps :)
Gimme All The Cake thanks. I am really destroyed because I thought I wouldn’t have a chance but when I stopped hanging with her people including friends and people I don’t really care for told me I was not too ugly for her. Now she is hanging with some dude and I missed my opportunity.
What that guy said is completely true. Just remember that shit could be much, much worse and chances are that you will go through much worse in your life. Most people do, just gotta push through that shit. Good luck to you and your struggles.
if that pause/death scene happens again you can also keep hitting P until the scene ends, takes a bit of time but tabing in and out likes breaking my laptop
Huh! Your Mongol Strategy is the exact opposite of mine. I focus on their cavalry, after they are depleted all they have left are archers who aren't really any sort of threat without supporting units.
Well, that was because he only had light cavalry which is only really effective against the archers. So going for the cavalry in this instance wouldn't have been sensible.
attacking you is a smart move by Spain, or any faction. There's a pretty good chance you'll never go and attack them back, particularly if you're a more southern nation
On my Spanish campaign was a bit different, they've taken Halych as their capital and spread throughout the entirety of the Russian territories. EDIT: actually the Russians decided to be their vassals, but they are struggling to take some of the eastern Polish territories, especially because I'm between them and the Danish.

*ITS TIME TO END*
"I'd like this game to end with everyone at peace with me"
I mean that's one way to put controlling literally every territory.
just waiting for a moment when Jon calls a captain of a farmer unit, 'a King'

Yuri K. All the (blank) in the world
One shot for everytime he says probably

one shot for every time he says "right in the rear"
One shot for every time he says king instead of general.

Jonas the Honest: Well if i'm really honest i wont. *dies*

Isn't this an adaptation of "Tissue" by Imtiaz Darkher?

I tried this and died. I'm dead now. This is my ghost typing.
So many of his wars are simply reactionary at this point. It's great.
My childhood was staring at this map, and I don't regret it
Why didn't you send your king to attack the Mongols?
He gets to die in glorious city-siege battle. Eventually. Hopefully.
Serious answer - even a terrible faction leader has ~70 really damn good heavy cav and excellent morale - it can be useful in a real battle.
Go to the discussions in the Steam Forums for M2TW and I bet there is a guide there
buy it on steam.
Many A True Nerd he has negative morale traits though

I have had a terrible weekend. This has made me very happy. Thank you Jon!
still getting annoyed at jon for yelling at his troops behaviour while the problem is his clicking and lack of perception
Like leaving his scouts to take on the Moorish catapults, then allowing them to be wrecked while he exults in a wall battle? ='[.]'=
It's the calling Generals and Captains 'Kings' that does my nut.
*(MONGOLIAN THROAT SINGING INTENSIFIES)*
That awkward moment when the Mongols aren't doing Mongol Horde things so you have to remind them of their job by throwing some light cavalry at them.
uh, Jon, the mongols DO have gunpowder
how can the mongols not have gunpowder, don't they have rocket launchers?
Their rockets run on magic that is generated each turn they bumble around in the mountains.
Maybe theyre trying to dig the mountains up and bring them to the city to literally crush the opposition
The mongols have gunpowder, having acquired it from the Chinese. It was the European powers that didn't have gunpowder.
To be precise, Mongols have gunpowder, but they don't have guns.
@@TheUltrahypnotoad Mongols used 'cannons' during the invasion of Japan

Okay I'll go
leo de salis I know right? It’s a real Spain in the ass
Do you really have the Portu-gall to make that kind of pun?
Great new drinking game- when Jon says something that's not grammatically correct, take a shot. I'm not responsible for your death.

I guess the real question is: Can you get some matchlocks and cannons to greet the Mongols with?
soon
whenever i watch you play total war it makes me want to go play it so i do then i forget to finish the episode
May I ask two things.
1: can Jon send a fleet to the Atlantic Ocean to find the Aztecs
2: is Claire Jon's girlfriend
1. As far as I'm aware, I don't think he can yet. A tile pops up at a certain point talking about rumors of a New World or something along those lines (It's been a very long time since I played Medieval TW).
2. Yes.
I believe they are just housemates.
1. IDK
2. Effectively yes
I'm on turn 130+ and even the Tumurid Horde has appeared, but no new world yet.
You attacked with 81 horses. You scared them away.
That birger fellow is only 16, year is already balding. Another Vatinius perhaps?
By the time the Mongol Horde arrives Jon will be able to fight them with his orbital laser.
i wonder when the duck people are going to take over the quack is inevitable
gives me the fear whenever you leave a catapult in fire at will mode
Jon... once again, the guy was on the road.. that's the "for whatever reason" you couldn't build the watch tower. Also... damnit archers AREN'T indirect fire.
The Mongols were very scared from the greatest Danish caviraly
Did anyone notice how that new general he got around 6minute mark is 16 years old and already bald? :D
The comments: Jon stop waging war with everyone

Jon, that big Portuguese army is in their ships. You should really engage their fleet.
Clearly you need to pacify the Iberian Peninsula
The mongols have always been a bit buggy. Hope you poke them with a "stick" to coax them into attacking.
You are getting these alcoholic traits because you are puting generals in cities which have inns. The buildings give your generals traits.
Are you at war with the byzantines yet?
thadude1337 Seems like he's at war with/destroyed every faction he's discovered except the Papal States and the Mongols if they count as a faction.
The Spanish inquisition has attacked jon
Ooh, gunpowder. I'm curious how that will switch things up. Does that mean we can expect an army of Moorish cannons soon?
Thanks for the video!
Afternoon Jon! Have a nice day
Hey Jon, would you ever consider doing a Mount and Blade: Warband series? Or maybe Bannerlord when it comes out?

We want MOAR MONGOLS , or elephants :)
Jon have you ever played eu4 cause I feel like would you like befriending everyone then killing them once you realized they are weaker
No one expects the Spanish intervention!
A small question, why do you care what the Pope thinks about you anymore you're at war with everyone, what the hell is the Pope going to do to you? Yell at you from the Pope mobile?
If the pope calls a crusade against Jon everyone can suddenly amass huge mercenary armies on the cheap and coordinate them against him.
Yeah I suppose you're right, this is all showmanship, after he achieved the victory conditions.
there is also the problem that when you are excommunicated, all cities get %20 unrest.
