maybe you could purchase one of those three pin relays(active low types), hook the on/off signal pin to your reverse lights, and splice the power line for the speaker+connect it to the other two pins. That way whenever the reverse light is on, the speaker will turn off. You wont be able to use the mic or anything when in reverse, but it seems better than not being able to use it at all while still getting rid of that ufo sound.
Gaffa tape over the speaker holes under the car really works if you're not bothered with the 'toy box' features. It's very quiet now so I might open up a few of the holes to tune the right output.

Or coming out of your garage. It’s a safety thing mandated by the government. If you did have an older Tesla without the “noise box” you wouldn’t have access to those cool features like megaphone and the horn sounds

While Tesla does have object detection which should prevent hitting someone/something, that technology isn't 100% accurate nor 100% ubiquitous across all EVs, so a sound effect provides an additional layer of safety. To that end, removing/disabling the sound can pose a safety hazard and I imagine it might be illegal in some jurisdictions; although, I am not a lawyer.
I understand where your coming from, my argument is there are many hybrids that make 0 noise while baking up in a parking lot as well as many gas cars that are so quiet you can barely hear them ESPECIALLY in a load busy parking lot so I pay extra attention and decided to remove mine. thanks for your support tho!

I was in the parking lot, unloading my groceries. All the sudden I heard this noise and thought my car was going to explode. Then I look at the car parked in front of mine, and realize it’s the Tesla making that noise as it backing up. Scared the $h!t out of me for a second.
I am annoyed by the sound, I hear it multiple times a day, when my neighbours come and go. I don't recognize other people leaving or getting home with their regular vehicles. Electric cars are silent, that is a good thing, now please don't make them more annoying than any other combustion engine could ever be sound and noise pollution wise. If you live in a crowded place or near parking lots, this kind of reverse sound is a pita after a while.
My T3 was made in January 2019. No reverse sound. Sadly, now that you e posted this video, guarantee they’ll make it impossible to do . Almost successful… i can’t wait to get my new one with the speaker and mic and all that. Gonna make the noise like a top-fuel dragster 🤣😂🤣

As someone who lives across the street from one of these cars and have to listen to UFO landing sounds reverberate through my house every time my neighbor comes and goes, I could not disagree more about how "pleasant" it is.
Yeah. Maybe it’s pleasant when you are in the car with the windows rolled up. But at night backing in and out of a place where there are never any people (driveway at home). It would be nice to have some quiet time coming home. Especially if you have a dog that barks when it hears the sound. An on off button installed under the dash on the drivers side would be nice!

Please DO NOT promote disabling this sound. I can understand if you wish to change the sound though.

Someone mentioned you can set a blank MP3 file as the reverse sound. I haven’t tried it yet though.
I wish they just have the classic beep reverse sound like trucks have but more elegant. Not into the whistling sound.

EVs are required by federal law to make noise when backing up or going at low speed in order to warn pedestrians and bicyclists.

Just put tape under the speaker but it's going to be muffled and less quieter.
