The herbicide that you're applying works by entering the weed leaf which is why you are using a surfactant. By Cutting them spraying you are reducing leaf to chemical contact. Cutting and spraying are also two stressful events. Stressful events should be spaced out. Cutting and spraying increases the chance for turf damage such as fungus.

Great video JB. I just used Tenacity on my lawn Monday. I want to kill the weeds before seeding my patches. I used 2 other chemicals in my sprayer. One to help me see what I sprayed and one to help the Tenacity to stick. One was lazer blue and the other began with an S. I heard that even though the Tenacity was $70 for an 8 ounce bottle it's cheaper than buying the big box store stuff per treatment.

Technically, a surfactant (soap) does not make the herbicide "stick" better. More accurately, it reduces surface tension of the liquid mixture preventing it from beading up on the surface of the leaf. It thereby spreads more smoothly on the leaf. Bonus: the soap also disrupts the waxy layer on the surface of leaves (think of soap breaking up grease on one's hands). This enhances the *penetration* of the herbicide into the leaf which is much better than just sticking to the leaf.

    • @GarageGear

Hey Dantayga, the hose and spray methods are used to spray large areas or a whole lawn. There’s no need to spray weed killer everywhere especially if there are no weeds in those spots. This mix only takes about 3 minutes to make and about ten minutes or less to apply depending on how many weeds you have. Remember you don’t want to spray weed chemicals when weeds aren’t there.
