How long does Tenacity need to stay on plant without rain for it to be effective? Also, if I want to reseed, how long do I need to wait after applying tenacity to reseed?
I have to make some comments here: 1). Tenacity is a good product but you probably need to make sure everybody knows it is for use on cool season grasses (TTTF, KBG, Perennial Ryegrass, etc.) DO NOT use this on warm season grasses (such as Bermudagrass) or damage may occur. 2). The use of surfactants and tracker dye is spot on... great info. 3). Nice to see you wearing rubber gloves and eye protection. However, long trousers and water proof footwear (rather than tennis shoes) should be worn. 4). I would also emphasize that folks should read and understand the product label. There is everything in the label a person needs to know to safely apply the product. For example, there may be temperature restrictions on applications or suggestions regarding irrigation before or after applications. 5). Weeds don't cause a poor lawn... they are the result of one. The best weed control is getting and keeping the grass in a healthy, actively growing state. AAMOF, herbicide applications to weak, stressed turf may lead to phytotoxicity.
unfortunately he does not respond to some of the very important questions and I knew about the cool season grasses and tenacity by watching other videos so we have to do our research or reach out to the company.

@BadmaashCo hope you found out the answer but if not I found on lowes website you can find grass type by region of country. Northern cool season grasses, the southern gulf states warm season grasses, and transition zone in between the two. It lists the types of grasses in each region. Trying this out today. I've paid lawn care companies to fertilize and weed and I still feel like my crab grass is spreading. It is terrible! Can't wait to see the results from this product!!
I used some of this product on some weeds growing in a small separate section in my front yard This section also contains two small pine bushes and a burning bush. Right now, one of the pine bushes has a good sized bleached section along with the burning bush, which is also partially bleached, some spots with crunchy leaves. There is no possible way that I sprayed these plants with this product. However I also sprayed a few patches elsewhere on my property, no issues.
I don't think we have Tenacity here in Australia but I have used a product called Jolt and it works really well. Aimed at broadleaf weeds it allows the grass below it to get sunlight once the broadleaf weeds are gone.
We didn't get the leaves up last year before it snowed and then didn't see the ground again all winter, so my lawn is a trainwreck right now - and this is after it's been slowly getting worse year by year since I've been slacking. Gonna try your method to get it looking nice again.
I love that extended wand and fan tip on that sprayer. Very nice. I'm looking to upgrade my wand and tip on my sprayer. BTW, Tenacity is the bomb. I'm doing a renovation this spring and Tenacity is really the only product available designed to stop weeds and let new grass grow.
@@SilverCymbal It's been fantastic. The lawn has responded very well. I put two applications on, 3 weeks apart. I'm afraid to do it a third time this spring. Some weeds have come up in spots I missed. I'm hoping, after a few more times mowing, that I can use a weed-b-gon application to take care of the few weeds that did make it thru. But, I want the grass to be well established. With the low temperatures we've been having, I don't think heat will be a problem when applying. Thanks again. 👍 Great content.
@@neerajsingh-dd9jh the dead weeds will disappear back into the earth. Unless they are really big weeds. When I did my renovation, I actually had to rototill the yard to get rid of the giant dandelion and crabgrass carcasses. But if it's just small weeds in the grass they will disappear while the grass takes over.
I put this on my yard last fall. Slowly, the Charlie turned white. Then one nice December day I walked outside and noticed it was ALL GONE, as were the other weeds. As near as I could tell, nothing remained but grass. It does not work fast, but it works very, very well. I will touch up a couple of places along the side of the house I missed last year.
Thank you for putting this information out, the last 2 yrs have been horrible for crab grass and clover!! Can’t wait to get my paws on this stuff!! Tnx again
Thank you kindly. It works very well, if it hadn't been for Tenacity I dont think I could have renovated my yard this way. I tried many times over the years and failed every time.
Few questions, apologize in advance if you've already answered in the comments... 1. how long after tenacity application should I wait before cutting the grass? 2. can I apply tenacity to freshly cut weeds/grass?
Johnson’s Baby Shampoo can be used as a surfactant. 1oz of JBS per gallon of water/week killer mixture will keep the weed killer from simply beading up on grass and weeds and actually penetrate the plant.
Tere Ch all 3 products will cost roughly $90.00 depending on where you get it but like in the description of the video it’s about the cheapest place to purchase it
TheMusiqPlugs follow the label on the bottle. However, Tenacity does not effect turf grasses. You can reseed at the same time as you apply this stuff. It's a very good pre and post emergent, but it's incredibly slow. You must also ensure that at least 0.15 inches (per label) is used to water it in. This does not have to be done right away, within a week is fine (again, per label). It can be rain or sprinklers, doesn't matter.
The first person to tell me Tenacity needs a surfactant, & dye. I like the dye idea, even tho I am doing 100% coverage. It definitely will save on waste of spray. Good video, I subscribed to U!🇨🇦👊🏻👨🏻🏭✨💖
Recently bought a new house in NH that is over run with weeds. I really don't like chemicals though - so trying to decifer if a lawn is the right path for me. The apartment I moved from used a lot of chemicals to keep things pretty and it made my dog really sick. She was covered with allergic sores, it was awful. Her condition cleared up since we have been living fairly raw on this new property. I also worry about the effects of soil and ground water using so many chemicals. Problem is, I live on a beautiful street where my neighbors take excellent care of their lawns and I love the way it looks. Before I commit and invest in a lawn I am trying to research and consider health and environmental impact. Any thoughts or suggestions regarding your process and these issues? Thank you!
HeavenlyHomemaker101 maybe you can do 50/50. Front lawn can be treated with chems up until you have it under control and the turf is healthy...then ween off the chems and take care of yard with natural, slow release fertilizer. Healthy turf will suffocate those pesky weeds. If weeds begin coming back, you can spot spray with chems to address individual weeds. This will allow your front lawn to match your neighborhood. Then you can leave the backyard chem free so your dog can have a great time playing outside. You can still take care of the backyard turf weeds even without chems but it takes more time and patience. Best of luck.
First off thank you very much for the video. I have recently over-seeded my lawn and presently started to see some new grass but the weeds are appearing and outgrowing it at a much faster rate. Would you recommend spraying tenacity now or wait till bee grass grows longer? Many thanks!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge in such a clear and concise way. You have a lot of lawn to take care of, but it turned out beautiful! Thanks, again!
I loved this video so tried using Tenacity + Surfactant + Die 2-3 weeks ago. I was so disappointed walking through the lawn today that not only did it kill the weeks, but it also is killing the grass. So now my relatively small weed problem has become a significant grass problem. I am so disappointed. I ordered the products pinned on this video, mixed it using the recommended amounts, and sprayed lightly. Any advice?
Matt Eggers that should be cool season grass. Do you know if you have fescue in the yard? Thats a warm/intermediate grass. Maybe thats what is being affected.
I heard in another lawn guru's blog that tenacity won't prevent grass seed from germinating but it WILL kill young turf grass. I would use this product to spot spray and time it right so that you're not spraying a few weeks after seeding when those seeds germinate into young grass.
Thanks for another great video sir! I've got a few spring weeds now that I'll use Tenacity to get rid of, but I'm pretty sure that right now is the time for crabgrass pre-emergent too. Any recommendations for a granular pre-emergent? Is that what I need right now or should I spray the crabgrass as it appears?
Great video! I’m just stating on my lawn journey. What happens to the weeds once you spray the tenacity, surfactant and dye solution? Does it turn white and “disappear” or do you have to pull them out? Do you reseed afterwards?
The weeds gonna start drying after 7-10 n completely dried out to roots in almost four weeks.. you can pull out the remains(it becomes like 10% of the weed)..if u have too much weed u can reseed ,if its only here n there then u don’t need to reseed..
I got my tenacity delivered today, and I applied it. Only problem I faced was I didn't find the syring to measure until I was done. I used 1 teaspoon with one gallon though. I hope that is ok. I have pump sprayer, and sprayed conservatively. I will know in 3 weeks. Ya!
Just enjoyed spraying your Tenacity method onto my lawn and hoping it kills a lot of weeds. If applied today and then it rained few hours later, will it wash off? It was a "True Pleasure" to see all the Blue. Thanks for the great video, fingers crossed. Can you direct me to which video to watch to reseed successfully in June - located in Ohio.
can you spray your entire lawn and let the chemicals figure out weeds vs. grass? thinking of putting chemicals in 100 gal sprayer and just spray entire yard.
Dude, this stuff works. I'm here to review the doses, but I'm applying my second year to the few weeds that crept in over the fall, early spring or were still seeds when I passed it last summer. Save money and time and follow the exact protocol used in this video! Again, the Tenacity/Surfactant combo is a knock-out punch to crabgrass, dandelions, clover and a lot of those others in the intro that I can't name. Best to ya.
It would work, but tenacity is kind of expensive to use. It's best for spot treatments and followed up with a broadcast preemergent weed killer. It's all listed on the label.
Gonna try this exactly how you broke it down! Ive tried everything, some parts of my lawn look amazing and some parts i cant get right no matter what i try!
You won't need to re-apply for any weeds you hit. You will undoubtedly have some new ones that will need to be taken care of but it will drop more and more until you have few to deal with. Tenacity is nothing like the products we all spent $$$ at box stores and really aren't effective. You won't ever see a pro using store type stuff. most are switching to Teancity for the reason that it works so well and is easy to work with.
Thanks so much for making a video with very clear, detailed explanations. You've given me hope that our lawn will look better within the next few weeks as we start killing the weeds, and then later we'll move on to planting more seeds.
Thanks for the video, very informative. Question, for this area, how long before you seeded the patches that had the dead weeds? Did you use starter fertilizer? Thanks !
Tenacity works great and you can put down grass seed at the same time. I have done it no problem, have been using over a year the only weed kiler i use, kills, crab, johnson, and dallis grasses. Be careful very powerful one half teaspoon per gallon is all you need. Put water in sprayer first, very thick than add products. Also do not co mingle products. Use a clean measuring tool for dispursement. Bad practice to go from one bottle to the other
I recently used this product it works wonders. I dug up my crabcgrass and applied seed and some peat moss a week after I applied. Worked perfectly. I have read that you can seed over the dead crab grass but thought I would dig them up. Great video excellent
I would remove them and the dead discolored grass if it's a spot that's got some. Then I would rake the dirt and then seed that area and mix it in with the dirt.
Awesome video, thank you. Can you reseed (overseed) after using Tenacity? Or do you have to wait a few weeks? Also can you use lawn fertilizer after this weed control? Or do you have to give it some time also? Thanks!

What are your recommendations on Tenacity application and top seeding? Which on first and how long in between the two? Thanks for all the great videos!
spray..You can apply seed anytime..(I would wait one day though because Tenacity when used as a post emergent needs six hours of drying time..(and you will want to water the seed.)

Dutch clover 0:41 is actually really good for your lawn and was once a standard ingredient in lawn seed mixes. But the chemical companies couldn’t avoid killing it with their herbicides, so they marketed it into oblivion, branding it as a weed.
Tenacity is great. I had some very nasty invasive weeds and I sprayed in June. No weeds this year! Hot summer hurt the grass but it's growing green now in Minnesota with cool cloudy August weather.
Thanks for this. Are there any temperature restrictions with Tenacity? It’s summer in Northwest Florida and temps are in the 90s. Most other weed killers like atrazine, require lower temps to avoid killing the grass.
Yes, they recommend some distance between the shrubs and weeds. You can use a piece of cardboard to act as a shield what you are trying to make sure is that no spray gets on the shrub, so always spray when there is little or no wind and use your judgement if the shield is needed.
As far as I am aware there is no impact to them. By it's design it only affects specific species of plants and what it does is stops them absorbing chlorophyll. Much less aggressive or poisonous than older products.
I applied this concoction a week ago. And sure enough, this past weekend all the crabgrass started turning a lighter shade of green, most are now starting to get to the white stage. I've seen no harm to my cool season grass. This stuff works. It is pricey, but it doesn't take a lot to make a gallon.

@@heinzkitzvelvet What to do after spraying tenacity ??? Do I have to remove the dead weeds or it’s okay to leave it in there ?
Tnx again
Immediately found these on Amazon! My yard is horrible!
It can really help a lot. Made all the difference for me amzn.to/2Oc07FW
Nice property you have there.
I may give this stuff a go.
Thanks!
Thank you kindly. It works very well, if it hadn't been for Tenacity I dont think I could have renovated my yard this way. I tried many times over the years and failed every time.
@@SilverCymbal how long do I have to wait after applying Tenacity before I can re-sead?
Few questions, apologize in advance if you've already answered in the comments...
1. how long after tenacity application should I wait before cutting the grass?
2. can I apply tenacity to freshly cut weeds/grass?
This is an amazing way of getting rid of the weeds . In 5 days the leafs were completely white . Thank you so much.
Johnson’s Baby Shampoo can be used as a surfactant. 1oz of JBS per gallon of water/week killer mixture will keep the weed killer from simply beading up on grass and weeds and actually penetrate the plant.
Thank you! I’ve had all 3 of those products in my garage since last summer but was too scared to use it.
Thank you glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
how much is this ??
Tere Ch all 3 products will cost roughly $90.00 depending on where you get it but like in the description of the video it’s about the cheapest place to purchase it
Ty .... finally get the truth and nothing but the truth . Love it
When should I reseed my lawn after this step? Also how often should I water the lawn after I apply these?
TheMusiqPlugs follow the label on the bottle.
However, Tenacity does not effect turf grasses. You can reseed at the same time as you apply this stuff. It's a very good pre and post emergent, but it's incredibly slow.
You must also ensure that at least 0.15 inches (per label) is used to water it in. This does not have to be done right away, within a week is fine (again, per label). It can be rain or sprinklers, doesn't matter.
Comeyd Noted, thank you
The first person to tell me Tenacity needs a surfactant, & dye. I like the dye idea, even tho I am doing 100% coverage. It definitely will save on waste of spray. Good video, I subscribed to U!🇨🇦👊🏻👨🏻🏭✨💖
You expanded things perfectly. Cheers from Australia
Agree completely. Tenacity works fantastic for me in my lawn.
@@jncbankston good idea, I will highly consider. :)
Thanks for the Tenacity refresher. That’s the easiest and simple instruction I’ve seen
Any advice?
Where do you live? Tenacity is generally safe for cool season grass. Not sure about warm season grass type.
@@guodaliang4158 Thanks for the follow up. I live in Indiana.
Ya!
Great video! I stumbled upon your channel only a week ago and have found your videos to be incredibly helpful!!
How long after using tenacity should you wait to aerate and overseed?
have same question
Just enjoyed spraying your Tenacity method onto my lawn and hoping it kills a lot of weeds. If applied today and then it rained few hours later, will it wash off? It was a "True Pleasure" to see all the Blue. Thanks for the great video, fingers crossed. Can you direct me to which video to watch to reseed successfully in June - located in Ohio.
what was the result?
can you spray your entire lawn and let the chemicals figure out weeds vs. grass? thinking of putting chemicals in 100 gal sprayer and just spray entire yard.
Yes. It will sort it out. But like he said, don't do a double/triple pass.
Saw your video, ordered the products you advised, and weeds are dying. Thanks for the great videos and how to
So glad it helped you get your lawn in shape. Thank you
Silver Cymbal Only thing I would do differently is a would get a battery powered backpack sprayer.
Gonna try this exactly how you broke it down! Ive tried everything, some parts of my lawn look amazing and some parts i cant get right no matter what i try!
Will this work on St. Augustine grass in California? Almost every weed killer i see at Lowe’s and Home Depot will not work on St. Augustine grass. 😩
Google is a good resource
Yes
Wow! Thank you for the information! How often do you need to re-apply? I have been using the Scotts program every 3 months so far. Thanks.
Great video. Out of all the videos on UA-cam about Tenacity yours is the best. Thanks.
Thank you. Just what I needed. I’ll be tackling this tomorrow.
Thanks for the video, very informative. Question, for this area, how long before you seeded the patches that had the dead weeds? Did you use starter fertilizer? Thanks !
Yes, please. How long after did you seed?
What to do after spraying tenacity ??? Do I have to remove the dead weeds or it’s okay to leave it in there ?
Tenacity works great and you can put down grass seed at the same time. I have done it no problem, have been using over a year the only weed kiler i use, kills, crab, johnson, and dallis grasses. Be careful very powerful one half teaspoon per gallon is all you need. Put water in sprayer first, very thick than add products. Also do not co mingle products. Use a clean measuring tool for dispursement. Bad practice to go from one bottle to the other
Great points, thank you for sharing these.
A little over a year later, I'm eating my weeds. Great salads to go with my meals. Chickweed is awesome!
This is the most useful and informative channel on youtube !! thank you for all your hard work and research
Very helpful! I just sprayed tonight and I'm hoping for good results. First time user of Tenacity.
When the weeds turn white, should you remove them physically? Or just seed over them?
I recently used this product it works wonders. I dug up my crabcgrass and applied seed and some peat moss a week after I applied. Worked perfectly. I have read that you can seed over the dead crab grass but thought I would dig them up. Great video excellent
I would remove them and the dead discolored grass if it's a spot that's got some. Then I would rake the dirt and then seed that area and mix it in with the dirt.
Safety tip, put the required amount of water in sprayer first then add the chemicals.
I would recommend putting half the amount in. It's easier to shake and mix it up and then add the rest.
Awesome video, thank you. Can you reseed (overseed) after using Tenacity? Or do you have to wait a few weeks? Also can you use lawn fertilizer after this weed control? Or do you have to give it some time also? Thanks!
Did you get a response on this? I was wondering the same
@@oliden4977 his videos are so helpful, but I guess he has no time to respond. Would be nice if he could do a followup video to answer all the questions.
Thanks, Silver! Your videos are some of the best on many subjects. The Tenacity has been a great help for me and centipede grass in NW Florida.
Love your channel. Long time subscriber. Just to the point information. No goofy antics and doggo e stupid .music. Just got back into my tall fescue DIY lawn this fall from scratch.Keep up the good work.
Heads up, you "cordless sprayer" review link leads right back to this video.
So true. Big box weed products don't kill the tough weeds.
Very nice video - thank you very much! I will try this!
Thank you again for making these very informative to the point videos. I recently applied your ”Beat the Heat” formula and our lawn is doing well. Today, I applied this cocktail, now waiting for the results. Cheers!
Great to hear! Thank you
Can you let me know where i can buy all these three chemicals?
Everything you need to be weed free: Tenacity Weed Control: amzn.to/2JM4APm Surfactant: amzn.to/2Xz6dod - Dye/Colorant: amzn.to/2Jta4yh
2 Gallon Sprayer: amzn.to/2xBJP3k
Does the label say to wear shorts and short sleeve shirt too?
No, but it does say you're a shit heel.
Dutch clover 0:41 is actually really good for your lawn and was once a standard ingredient in lawn seed mixes. But the chemical companies couldn’t avoid killing it with their herbicides, so they marketed it into oblivion, branding it as a weed.
Clover is an excellent nitrogen fixer in the soil.
Got my tenacity this week and I'm getting some Team Mates seed per your video to plant this month. Wish me luck.
Can I use this product around shrubs where I have weeds?
Yes, they recommend some distance between the shrubs and weeds. You can use a piece of cardboard to act as a shield what you are trying to make sure is that no spray gets on the shrub, so always spray when there is little or no wind and use your judgement if the shield is needed.
What effects does it have on soil life like earthworms and other beneficial lifeforms?
As far as I am aware there is no impact to them. By it's design it only affects specific species of plants and what it does is stops them absorbing chlorophyll. Much less aggressive or poisonous than older products.
I applied this concoction a week ago. And sure enough, this past weekend all the crabgrass started turning a lighter shade of green, most are now starting to get to the white stage. I've seen no harm to my cool season grass. This stuff works. It is pricey, but it doesn't take a lot to make a gallon.
