      Agree. If you can smell it you are breathing it into your lungs. I used to never bother with a mask or breather. Always wore gloves, sunglasses, long pants and boots. But I am even more cautious these days and usually wear a mask unless it's just a quick spot spray. The whole glphosate cancer thing is worth noting.

      If you're getting the stuff all over the place, all over your body, all over your clothes.... good bet you're doing something seriously wrong. Time to rethink you're methods. At the levels home owners use this stuff, reasonable contact is not going to be an issue. The issues are going to surround farmers who use hundreds or thousands of gallons of herbicides.

    Great advice telling folks to avoid the granular stuff; it requires too much luck. I use Speed Zone and it's an absolute beast of a herbicide even in cooler weather. The initial cost is higher, but it's a whole lot cheaper in the long run because it has 4 killing actions and it's higher in potency, therefore requiring less applications. Also, I've seen a video showing that growth regulator has worked to suppress that Poa stuff.

    Lazy neighbor sprayed RoundUp on a few of his weeds last week. I could taste and smell it a whole yard away. I haven't seen my Anna's hummingbirds since then. Before that, they visited my feeders several times per day. My perfect fantasy neighborhood would ban all herbicides. Weed & Feed has shared ingredients with Agent Orange used heavily in Vietnam War. Clover killer ingredient Dicamba needs to be perfectly applied at perfect temp and time of day. It's volitile and can lift off the sprayed area and travel a long way, then settle. All these poisons affect sex hormones in animals and humans by increasing estrogen and decreasing testosterone.

    Very good in depth video! However, I feel like Tenacity should have gotten more love because that stuff just works. It is by far the best weed killer I've ever used especially when considering a blanket spray. I follow the exact app rate on the label and never have any issues with it hurting my TTTF. It can be used mostly anytime, but also very effective when overseeding in the fall. I've been using it for 3+ years and highly recommend it with a pump or backpack sprayer.

      @GrassDaddy  4 роки тому +1

      There has been a trend for using Tenacity for everything but I feel it's best to use it just for the weeds the others can't. There is a limit to how much you should apply to your lawn each year.

      If you are worried about it and don't mind a bit more work, use a herbicide that uses chelated iron. In certain provinces in Canada dicamba is banned. It doesn't kill as much, but kills most broadleaf plants. They overdose on the iron. It doesn't kill dandelions to the root, but it will kill the top and the grass can outgrow it and crowd it out. So I've used Ortho Weed B Gon with iron or Fiesta weed control.
      After one year of fogging the lawn and then spot spraying, I am down to picking out the weeds by hand because I have reduced the amount so much. I do have the most weed free and best looking lawn in the neighborhood. Humic acid is safe as well. Soap as a surfactant.
      I use "put and play" Scotts fertilizer as well so you can walk on it right after although I water it in.
      If I could get Tenacity, I would use it once and then use the iron from then on. I can get Killex which would kill everything, but I figured I would try to recondition the soil to grow grass better and it worked. Now people don't even want to walk on it.

      Depends on the weeds. You need to identify the weeds first, and then get the right chemicals. Clover, crabgrass and chickweed are probably the ones you have. You'll most likely need at least two products. Buy a 2 gallon pump sprayer and get speedzone and bioadvanced all in one concentrate with crabgrass killer. Combine in sprayer with a little dishsoap and spot spray after the sun goes down and no rain in the forecast for 72 hours

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 роки тому +1

      Same concepts apply! Just goto your local hardware store and look for products that say for southern lawns. There are a few brands that have some. First step would be to find the one that has the most weeds it can kill at a time (roundup for southern lawns or weed be gone for southern lawns, etc)

      Roundup is labeled to kill grass. Roundup for lawns is labeled to kill weeds and not grass. Unfortunately they named them so similar it's easy to get the wrong type.

    After I kill all the weeds, when can I apply my lawn fertilizer??

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  2 роки тому

      You can apply the fertilizer anytime. Many people will actually fertilize and then spray weeds a week or two later because the weeds will start to grow faster from the fertilizer, which makes the weed killer work better.

    Point is for it to go to roots for grain. As far as liquid mix it with dish soap liie dawn it will help weed killer to stick to plantlet it sit for 24hrs. But will burn lawn if more then 90 degrees, so buy a preventer apply jan or feb when it germinates.

    Hello Grass Daddy, I find your vids incredibly easy to understand. What steps would you recommend before turfing a lawn? I have 90% weeds in my and looking forward to laying new turf in the next few months - how should I go about killing the existing lawn full of weeds including very large area of nutsedge. Thank you

    If you have St Augustine grass, do not use Weed-Be-Gone or Weed Stop unless they say "FOR ST AUGUSTINE YARDS". Their general products have 2,4-D in them, and that will either stress or kill the grass. Believe me, I found out the hard way.

    weeds are nothing, simple triple or speed zone clears that up with maybe some sticker mixed in. The poa annua is always the problem and keeping that junk out of cool season favorable grass has never been cured in the industry.

    The weed b gon for clover and ground ivy ( creeping Charlie) works great. Expensive as all get out, but does work. I found first in spring here in ohio puts a stop to all of those up front. Ivy thats Establish took me about 3 treatments. Follow the instructions on time intervals for spraying. I did burn the grass the first year. Luckily it came right back from it.

    Any idea if the tips you recommend will fit and work with the Harbor Freight sprayer you mentioned (I already own that). Also, for spraying bifenthrin, what tip would you recommend?? Already ran through my favorite tip that came with the sprayer on my 2nd app of bifen. How long do those tips last?
