      If you have very large portions of your lawn filled with crab grass that you just killed using your process. What do you do afterwards? Does it make sense to see that area of dead weeds/crabgrass?

    I love his videos. No cheezy filler. He skips the rapport building and comedy like others do. Always the best products and methods. The clincher here? I thought tenacity too expensive for me. One sentence "may seem expensive but cheaper per gallon.". I also realized I've had to treat and retreat with box store concentrates so in reality cost way less. I also figured out from this video that the tall yellow grass overtaking the lawn is Nutsedge, checked labels and box store weed killer doesn't kill it, no wonder it's flourishing. Thanks much for saving me real aggrevation, time and money..

This year, the creeping charlie is all gone except around the flower beds they avoid spraying. I'm using Speedzone in a hand sprayer there and have gotten good control in these small areas. My infestation was pretty heavy a year ago so I guess I needed to be more patient to get rid of this pesky weed. OK, I just made up a gallon of Tenacity/surfactant/dye and hit some spots in St. Augustine lawn in SE Texas. Now we wait. :^) I would have done it sooner (got my stuff about 3 weeks ago), but reading the directions, I need to do it in between waterings, and I'm having to water pretty much every day right now. I just bit my lip, turned off the sprinkler system, and put out the Tenacity.
    I hope it works without killing the grass, because down here, once it gets warm (basically March or April) we can't use pre-emergent anymore. I'll update here in a week.
    Wow, is Tenacity ever concentrated. I think with one bottle I've got a lifetime supply.

    • @griffmillerii1885
      @griffmillerii1885 5 років тому +3

      OK, the Tenacity is definitely working. Just about everywhere I sprayed it, the targeted weeds have turned white. Some took longer than others. It's a bit freaky how paper-white they are.
      I've since read that it's better if you apply Tenacity when it's not too hot (I forget the exact temperature threshold) so when I apply some more this weekend, I'm going to do it in the evening. I did notice that in the sunny areas of my lawn, the grass itself did pale a bit, so it was probably a bit too hot at the time. It's regularly in the high 90's and beyond where I live this time of year.
      So, this is great. I have something I can use post-emergent on my lawn for weed control. I use Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns in the early spring, which works well but I can't use it once it starts getting warm, which happens around March or April here. I suppose from now on I can keep using that pre-emergent or Tenacity, switching to just Tenacity post-emergent. I don't think I should use Tenacity in my beds in any case, but there I can continue to use Spectracide Weed and Grass Killer (like Roundup but a different chemical) if I'm careful about overspray. Only thing left is something to kill nutsedge in my beds - for that I want to try something called Sedgehammer. Has anyone tried that?

    • @griffmillerii1885
      @griffmillerii1885 5 років тому +2

      BTW, someone had asked if Tenacity is safe for bermuda grass, and I had promised I would report back what Tenacity did to the bermuda grass in my St. Augustine lawn (where bermuda grass is not wanted!), but I can't find where I wrote that. So, FWIW, it looks to me like Tenacity is killing the bermuda grass in my lawn, which is great for me, but not so good for people with bermuda grass lawns. I think Silver Cymbal posted somewhere in these comments a better product than Tenacity for bermuda grass lawns. HTH.

    Toss the syringe and use a measuring spoon instead. The syringe gets sticky once the surfactant gets in it, then the dye makes it impossible to read. The syringe made this job aggravating and messy for me.
    Today is exactly 1 week after my first application and the weeds are turning white while the grass remains unaffected. I’m going to apply the 2nd treatment next week which should kill any weeds that were missed last time. GREAT stuff!

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  4 роки тому

      Glad to hear it worked out well. Don't give up on the syringe, I find it very useful. When I am done I will often suck up some water a few times and put it in the sprayer. If you are using the dye I put the description I haven't had any issues. No matter how you measure, at least you are on your way to getting rid of the weeds thats what matters most.

    I have eliminated 99.9% of Charlie and 99% of sedge from 2/3 of an acre of lawn. I started hand picking the Charlie early each Spring and continued into the season until the ivy was gone. This took a LOT of walking the yard. (I’m retired by the way and have lots of time for this) Over the course of several years, Charlie is all but completely gone. I might find a few new ones each year but for the most part, it’s GONE. As for sedge, I hand pick it also in the same fashion. You have to grasp the plant down near the base to pull the whole plant out by the root. My next target is corn speedwell. I also eliminated dandelions the same way, using a weed puller.
    Tenacity works well and I’ve used it on creeping bentgrass with limited success. Much of it has remerged and I’ve given up on trying to stop it.

    Thanks for making this video! I just got everything you suggested this week. If I cut the grass on Saturdays, is there an optimal day for applying? I imagine if I go a day or two before mowing, there’ll be more contact with the leaves of the weeds. But I can also see an argument for right after mowing because there’s a better chance of making contact with the weeds closer to their roots. Thanks!

    I haven't had too much luck with Tenacity in the transition zone where I have a mix of fescue, bluegrass and rye. It turns most of the grass white where it is sprayed. If it's not heat of the summer then some grass does recover after about a month. If I keep spraying it every so often, my grass is going to have white patches all summer long making it seem like the lawn is diseased. I wish it came in 1/4 size and cost bottle so people can try it out.

      Sorry to hear that something doesn't sound right. Just be sure to use the surfactant (not soap) and check your mix but I have the same grass as you and it has worked really well. You will get somewhitening at times but you shouldn't get it everywhere. Also you could try a lesser tip on your sprayer.

    Found this video late last year, and I wanted to wait until I had tried the method, and seen results before reviewing.
    This video is amazing, and the method he lays out works perfectly. I have a TON of creeping Charlie in my backyard, and I did my first round last fall right before things got cold. It took a little longer for the stuff to turn white like described, but it did work.
    This spring I had to hit some of the back yard again because there was just so much creeping Carlie back there, but like clockwork, a couple days after spraying, it turned white and died off again.
    I want to point out that the reason I’m having to hit the yard multiple times isn’t because the mixture isn’t strong enough - I just have so much in my yard that it is easily missed while spraying.
    Probably will need to hit the yard one more time this fall, but then I will be able to plant new seed in the spring, which I’m super excited about.
    If I was to have one piece of feedback it would be on the dye - the blue dye can be kind of hard to see sometimes, so a neon color might work better. Not sure.
    Overall, highly recommended this video and method.

      I really appreciate the nice comment & more so that it really helped you improve your lawn. We are all so busy these days and can use easier ways to get great results. For the dye comment you can always go heavier on that also for more visibility, especially on darker soils. Thanks again

      Silver Cymbal Wanted to check back in and let you know that at exactly 7 days, the creeping Charlie has started to turn white! I’m really impressed! Still waiting to see if I sprayed the appropriate amount to leave the good grass happy but that’s user error on my part if it does happen. Thanks so much for this video! How often would you day you spray in one year? Is this like a “start of spring” and “end of fall” type deal? Or just as needed?

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  4 роки тому +1

      @@paathimself Let it do its thing if areas are missed you cam spray those anytime but the areas that were sprayed I almost never have to respray. Maybe once I did, but the stuff is very effective. The time of year is just when the weeds are bad. You will usually spray what you see in early spring and early-mid summer, crabgrass, etc. Fall is not usually needed as many die off by then but you can spray if they are there. Most years I spray 2x, and it's easier every year by a large margin, so even year 2 you will spray 75% less than before. Works very well.

    So I applied this about 4 weeks ago and the clover, dandelions, and crabgrass have all turned white but that’s it. Literally that’s all that has happened. They don’t look like they’ve been affected (except dandelions which also shriveled up) but now they’re bright white. Neither the clover or crabgrass even look wilted.

    • @stitchedpumpkin5905
      @stitchedpumpkin5905 4 роки тому +1

      This is not a vinegar salt composite where you see immediate results while doing nothing to damage most roots. This process is a slow methodical poisoning including roots. You'll need to apply repeatedly for an entire season. It's more effective but also a lot more work. Stick to a monthly schedule. If you need results faster, the most you can do is spray every two weeks but in that case be sure to put down fertilizer before a rain so the grass doesn't start to feel the pain. If neither is fully effective, you need to pitch fork your soil or pay for aeration; there's not enough air flow to allow for fluid movement of nutrients, poison, and oxygen, usually due to riding mowers or driving on lawns.
