So, this stuff does work. I live in Ontario and used this before I switched to Fiesta which is cheaper but the same stuff. This is a weed control product, not a weed killer. You need to use it when it is a certain temperature outside and on sunny days to make it work even better. I have had dandelions turn dark green and almost purple in 24 hours because I sprayed at the right time. The idea is that you can stunt the growth by killing the top (this will not kill the roots of a dandelion because the tap root can be 6-8 inches deep) and then get the grass to outcompete the weeds by growing over it and blocking sunlight. Mowing or dethatching will rip the tops off the weeds after you have weakened them making it even worse for the weed. It destryed my clover and some weird fern looking stuff, with ease. The neighbours don't mow more than once every month and a half and their lawn is infested with dandelions. I spray this a foot on their side and the grass is growing tall as the nutrients/fertilizer I put on my side leeches over. There are no weeds in that zone where I spray and the grass kept growing on their side. My grass density is so high, the weeds don't stand much of a chance. I just use this product 2-3 times a year to control the weeds. Since they don't increase in population you could just begin to manually eliminate the stubborn ones.

Wait for a hot day and fog the entire lawn and let the heat go to work. 2. Mow short after a few days. If you had a dethatcher. I would use it now because it will finish off the weak weeds. 3. Water lawn while you get someone to core aerate the lawn. I've used Kijiji. The person will get deeper and better plugs with a soft lawn. If you can't easily push a screwdriver in, you need to water the lawn or mudbowl or whatever you currently have. They may also dethach . 4. After the core aeration, you need to add loam or some other compost to put nutrients back into the lawn. If you have mowed low enough you could almost broom the stuff in or just use a rake. Remove cores first. 5. Add fertilizer. 6. Add grass seed, perennial rye is the fastest. You can go with a mix, but stuff like kentucky blue takes a long time and isn't for the impatient. Also kentucky blue doesn't like heat and will go dormant making your lawn look dead, so keep the ratio low. 7. Top dress with peat moss because it is spongy and holds moisuture, just don't lay on a insanely thick layer. 8. Water on a schedule. If you can't be home ask a neighbour to help out. Don't overwater. The ground needs to be damp, but not wet. Most people put black soil on top of the seed and when you water it you get mud that stops the seed from seeing sunlight. The grass should outcompete the weeds for round one. Every time you do this , the weeds have less area to come back to and you begin to spot spray weeds only, to control them. Tools: 1. Rake 2. Scotts states that after spraying weeds not to cut them for at least a week to allow the iron to absorb all the way down to the roots. Thanks for showing the results of a carpet spray. I have been trying to decide on weather to spot spray or carpet and seeing how your grass held up I feel much more comfortable doing a carpet spray.
I agree. I used half a litre of concentrate on less than 1000 sq ft, doing spot spraying (lots of weeds, primarily dandelion and thistle). I saw results within an hour, even a few weeds black and shriveled.
I agree. The problem with this product is that it doesn’t kill to the roots. So you have to continue to use every 2-3 weeks. Once you stop, it feels like the dandelions have been spreading under the soil. They will now be a lot… at least that’s my experience
The American and Canadian are two different products. From two different manufacturers, with different spelling of the product name. Only slightly different, but different spelling. And way different ingredients. If you want to compare apples to apples, compare Fiesta in the US to Scotts Weed B Gon in Canada. The Fiesta in the US is pretty expensive, but I think it is sold as a concentrate, and you want to make sure you compare how many square feet per dollar you get out of it. But neither will be "cheap". Reasonably effective though. And in Ontario, anyways, Scotts is one of the few weed killers that are legal. Basically, its just rusty water.
2,4 D and Dicamba are legal in Europe. We have bunch of products with those two as active ingredient. Thing I cant find here is Quinclorac which is rly nice for killing crabgrass. I guess that one is not legal..
Interesting perspective, wouldn't wasting material be the opposite, like spraying where there are no weeds like you are doing? I think last time I used this stuff I just bought the pre mix and sprayed only directly on each dandelion, it worked pretty well. Also I didn't cut the grass. I wanted to try it but then I wouldn't be able to see all the dandelions. Spraying each individually without cutting first I think works well but it would be more tedious of a job. I'm from Canada
If I attempted to spray every single weed in my lawn one by one it would probably take me a week if not more total. Thats ridiculous unless you have baby lawn with only a few weeds
Definitely not. Herbicides and pesticides are very toxic to dogs. Even months after use, they still limger around. It will instantly be absorbed through animal skin. Skin is like a sponge, absorbing everything it touches. Plus, dogs eat grass, play in the grass, and roll all over the grass. Using products like these, are a great way to cause canine cancer.
As much as I hate weeds, I like our environment free of poisons. Now that Ontario's 'official' flower is the dandelion, I've learned that obsessing over weed-free lawns is counter-productive. 😉
I think your Math is way off... A 1 litre bottle of concentrate will make 9 litres, so it is very much cheaper than the ready-to-use 4 litre jug. Here's the Math - 125ml mixed with 1 litre of water is 125 ml x 8 = 1 litre. Therefore, for every 125 ml of concentrate you add 1 litre of water. But you have also account for the 1 litre of concentrate. Hence, you have a total of 9 litres!

What if your yard is about 75% weed, 25% grass? Hoe do you get the little bit of grass to out compete? Just throw down grass seed and fert, FTW?

I'm finding that, while the plant may die, a week later the weed seems to sprout up again. I've had to respray multiple times for some weeds.

Did you say you dumped the hole container in or bottle into two gallons?..or a capful.
In the instructions of the premixed it says to make sure grass is well watered before applying...
