As someone who is literally on the last course of this certificate right now, I can definitely agree with a lot of points made in this video about the course. Here is to hoping it all works out for me in the finding-the-job phase as well. Good luck to my fellow learners!

How did you enjoy it? I only have my BA in physics and found that the stuff was so mind numbingly boring and the quizzes were more a question of whether you could repeat verbatim from the glossary than have any understanding. I don't think I've learned anything new about analysing data and even the tool utilisation components are incredibly basic.

I am currently in the Google Data Analytics Certificate course right now. I had recently almost completed the IBM Data Science Certificate, I finished 9 out of 10, and then I realized Data Analytics would be a better place to start. So far its really great. It can be repetitive sometimes but very worth the low cost (as compared to other methods). I agree with Sundas, she is spot on, and I will be following her advise and knowledge for the foreseeable future in my quest to be a Data Analyst/Scientist. Thanks!
I completed the Google Data Analytics program and received the certificate for it in July 2023. I am finding that it didn’t fully prepare me for even an entry level job like they said. It gives a VERY rudimentary overview of Data Analytics throughout the program. I have discovered that I have to do more reading and research on my own to persist on getting a job in Data Analytics. If you take this program, do not expect to get out job ready like Google preaches.

Thanks. I just started this course the other day. Im in the camp of people who should be taking it. Appreciate the inputs and encouragement this is the right first step. I have no degree, but have 6.5 years in banking, 3 years of that as a Financial Crime Analyst, so I think that experience should help open doors.
i think experience helps a lot!! i have a degree in Business informatics but it is kind hard to find a nice job for myself. May i ask how is course going? I just started my MSc in data science but i think it would be nice to start this course i think it would be interesting. How you like the course so far?
@@GtZkInGz01 I started as a teller on the mobile support team which meant I traveled to several branches to support sick/vacation days. Then got hired at a branch as a teller at a branch that I liked and was close to home. Then got a position out of head office at their call center to get lots of experience quickly. Meanwhile I was working on education to become a financial planner. Never had positions as a financial advisor open up for 2 years, kept getting empty promises from the hiring manager. After doing the cross training program, had 6 months go by without any further communication about moving to the role. After a couple weeks shadowing the job, it wasn't really what I had in mind for becoming a financial planner. Spoke to my direct manager. We were working as an org at migrating our online banking to a new platform and app. During this I was brought on to lead a team to help members migrate to the new system. Through that experience I got to rub shoulders with members of the corporate security team and come up with authentication process and then create a flowchart for the new staff to authenticate people over the phone quickly etc.. essentially I solved a lot of problems for the organization in my time during the migration process which got me recommendations from the call centre director and management. My wife had also worked on various projects on banking conversion, so they knew my wife's track record, also my sister in law worked as an executive assistant to the marketing executive. My wife was also an executive assistant for the CEO while he was the CRO. So.. I did have extra help in getting recognized by people that mattered in the hiring process, but it was 3.5 years of hard work to get there... nothing was guaranteed etc.. I left the job in 2022. Currently enjoying being a stay at home dad. Happy for my experience in group risk management, wouldn't want to stay there long term. Lots of jaded individuals, management were all functioning alcoholics. Very woke industry at this point. Prioritizing gender/sexual orientation over quality/quantity of work. Spent 7 years there, almost unrecognizable now from the company I started working for.
I just finished the Google DA course. I am changing careers from teacher to data analyst. This video came out just after I started the course. Your honest evaluation gave me such confidence to continue and know I wasn't wasting my time/efforts. Your evaluation is spot on - this course is perfect for someone unfamiliar with DA. Thank you!
I am doing the exact same thing. My question is, is it worth it? Is leaving teaching worth it? I am at a good school, with good students. But the downside is, I am not making nearly enough money.
I am half way thru the course and at 48 & semi retired, i wanted to see if it is a field worth pursuing. I am a marketing grad with no technical background at all and so far, I am loving it. I enjoy the hands-on assignment for SQL and google sheet and would usually watch other tutorials on youtube to further increase my understanding. Plus, it's affordable and if I wish to enhance my DA skills, there are many options out there.
You had no technical skills prior to this course and are able to follow the materials? I was worried about taking this on because of lack of technical skills.
@@willowbe4747 It isn't very tough to be honest but you need to be inquisitive especially in SQL and Tableau. As always, practice makes perfect... I am a long way fr there but I will take it one step at a time
HI ! Did you finish the course? have you landed in a job that you desired? I am just starting this course and was wondering if it was worth it? So far is just basic information and definitions, and since it's self pace I was wondering if you really learn to work with Python , SQL, R Programming and Tableau at some point of the course? Please advise, thank you !
I finished it, it was worth the underlying understanding of what goes into the job. That said, I think job pursuers still need to pack their portfolios with other projects.
Just recently watching Sundas' video on How to Manage Imposter Syndrome on Coursera has highly motivated me to overcome my own difficulties as an immigrant. Thank you for inspiring me!
Short answer: these certificates are good for basic skills. Don’t start these courses assuming that you will advance your data skills. You gotta learn the sh*t at work
I think the problem is that Google cert is advertised and labeled as a way to get into the IT business but they dont tell you is that many entry level wont require or even bother with it. It all matters about your portfolio and your presentation. I did the course during the 7 day trial and felt like it wasnt worth the money esp if your tight on money the best ive found was the Odin Project.
I kinda get both sides of the debate about SQL as a jack of all trades: I tend to treat SQL as a language I’ll use to get data from a DB when I don’t feel like _writing proper application code_ and I can express what I need in SQL. But I also feel it as something ephemeral. I’m writing queries that I will most likely throw away most likely and which will not become part of a codebase. The query is a means to an end. On the other hand, to non tech people, SQL feels daunting. Like some of the hardest things they’ll ever use and when they find a useful query that works they’ll hang onto it and curate those queries. But yeah, writing optimized queries is an art and a science. 😅
I started the certificate a year ago thinking it would be a good fit. I never finished it but wanted it to go back. The video work is daunting. I looked forward more to the assignments than the long videos I had to speed up to listen to them. It is a great certificate, I will go back to it but I also suggest attending courses solely focused on skills need in the field. Like Python, Excel, SQL, and Visualization software. You can knock out the certificate out in 3 months truly.
Taking this course as well. Right now Im thinking I need to learn Power BI and Tableau probably get a cert from Microsoft and Tableau as well for these things. It appears the certificate is a good starting point. Cheers and good luck to everyone.
Just started the free trial last night. I don't know if the certificate will help me find a job, but I have absolutely no experience or knowledge 😅. For me, it seems worth it (it's $49 as of 5.09.2023). Since I'm the type to deep dive into everything lol, I didn't expect to get everything I need from just the course, so I've definitely already started looking into other resources. Such as learning Python is preferred and suggested by many to learn
I am a junior financial analyst for about 4 months and before I worked as an accounting for about one and a half years. Now I am on the 3rd course and I think it's worth for me to get a background as well as high level view of everything.
Currently I'm on the fourth course of this certification and i totally agree with you on this, this certification will gives you a vast knowledge of the thing's that we're going to do as a data analyst, but you won't be able to get a job on this only that's why i aslo have taken course in udemy to enhance my skills that are must and i believe after completing all these courses and certification and doing projects, I'll be job ready and hopefully get a job.
I have been looking at this course since I am an analyst just starting out and my local university bootcamp is sooo expensive. Definitely gonna give this a shot.
I just enrolled Google Data Analytics certification a week ago. The courses of the first two weeks so far are too easy for students who may have some background knowledge in statistics and Excel. But I would say you still can enjoy different talented speakers sharing their analysis journey.
Hey folks, I just started this course because I'd like to integrate data analyst skills in my current job position, that is Operations Manager in Customer Support. Of course, I'm already confident with excel. I'd love you to share some ideas here, maybe if you already experienced something similar. Thanks to all, and good luck!
In the capitalistic system we live, the companies only want skills and experience. I have 7 years studies and 4 certificates in various subjects but i have never achieved to work in a job i love.
Got this Certificate 3 months ago. Is it enough to find a job at the end of 2023? Big NO. Think twice, you're gonna spend a huge amount of time and some money
Hi Sundas! Your videos are really helpful. Here is the video suggestion for you! why don't you make a video briefing about different areas in the machine learning? I am finding difficulty in choosing a domain in ML. I am unsure about which areas to go for whether its nlp, computer vision, deep learning, reinforcement learning etc. Please explain what its like to work in a certain domain. Thanks in advance!!❤❤
I‘m on 4th part and what I want to say: it’s really very good structured course but It’s not enough. I would advise you to take a closer look at the projects on the Coursera and work on them concurrently with studying the course. The course contains a lot of theory. I am currently in my fourth part, and I understand that there is a lack of practice here. You need to constantly seek out things on your own.
I appreciate your comment very much, this is the response that I've been looking for. Possibly a bootcamp would be better? I will do my research, thanks again !
I’m doing the IBM Data Analytics course. it has Python instead of R and that is the reason I chose it instead of the Google course. Will this course be looked at like the Google course when it comes to jobs or am I wasting my time?!
@Ade Bakari Because no one actually cares that you completed these certification courses. All they care about is whether or not you have a college degree and how many years of professional experience you have.
@@coffeewithginseng3812 In the IT field I would say people care about skills and a certificate shows / indicates that you may have it so they can test you on it during a possible interview. Experience you can get by showing your portfolios. It may be easier if you had a degree but maybe its not impossible without at the beginning - you can even go straight to Masters in Data Analytics without a degree if you meet the requirements such as by working in the field for a few years.
@@francisdelacruz6439 It's already so difficult to find an entry-level data analyst job with a 4 year degree and internship experience. Not to mention personal projects don't help as much either because most jobs are looking for candidates with muliple years of 'professional' work experience and referrals from those employers. These online certification courses are good for gaining some basic knowledge about data analytics but they should not be treated as an instant pass for landing a full-time job in tech.
Best chance is if you currently have a job where you can implement the material from the course. The certificate itself means next to nothing. But taking the Coursera course can be informative personally to just find out if you like this field. But it’s really not a ticket to a job. Certification in general is not. Job experience is key.
Thakyou Sundas! I have no experience in data at all. However, I am interested in data science rather than Analytics. Which one do you think might be better for me? The Google Data Analytics Cert. Program or the Google advanced data analytics Cert. program?
This is a bit off topic but I would very much appreciate you giving your experience based opinion on ways to future proof against the effects that AI such as GPT and Copilot are expected to have on data science jobs. I think your experience in the role could help us all a lot on what GPT and Copilot may and may not be good at doing.

I met Sudas on the 6th or 7th course of the certification, finished whole thing two days ago. I learned a bunch of new things even though I knew most of the things. I did not know R or Tableau and God knows I'll be using them a lot from now on!
I'm starting this certificate and it feels like it's hands down the best place to START my Data Analytics/Analyst path. Yes, it's an introductory course but you have to start somewhere and it teaches you all the essencial elements needed to become a DA. After you learn the basics like say SQL in this course, you can use it for a job but a deeper understanding of it with several proyects or a dedicated certificated in SQL will be more atractive to employeers. Lets be real, it's a six months certificate, by his own it hardly gonna change your life but I don't see myself (or anyone interested in DA) regreeting taking it. Specially for the price and top quality content.
I finished the certification a few weeks ago. I found that even though I’m newer In the field, it seemed too easy and slow paced. The certificate is a great starting point but is no means the end all be all. The industry of data is a continuous learning cycle which is why I’ve been pursuing a career in data analytics. Currently im taking the Python for everyone course and it’s doing wonders to add into what I learned with R. So the google certification does make it easier to understand other coding languages once you learn the basics. The instructors are very friendly to the user which I found a big plus. Overall, I’d give the course a 7.5/10. It’s very manageable to get the course done in a couple months which comes out to $80 it’s well worth that price point
Thanks for sharing your pov. I agree it’s a starting point and not really where you should stop. In order to be marketable if the job market, you would have to continue building your skills and projects after completing this certificate
I am starting this certificate, I have a monetary and banking economics masters degree and I think this certificate with some side projects can help me a lot for getting a job as a data analyst?, at least that's what I'm planning to do, good luck to anyone starting it in 2023!

Question for Data Science community; once I land my very first job in Data Analytics coming from the course mentioned in this vid, how long should a wait to study in becoming a Data Scientist… a year, two years as I ramp-up knowledge and hands-on experience. What would be your advice? Thank you all in advance!!
I would recommend studying as soon as you can. Some aspects of both subjects overlap, Data Science is just a more high level variation of DAnalyst. That's my opinion anyways, good luck!
I'm one course into the 8 courses in the course. I am a Special Education teacher with no background in this area. It looks an interesting way to make money and to solve problems. I am unsure how to make a transition from the certificate into a job. It would be nice to locate some part-time gigs that are low risk to help build the project portfolio.
Hello Sundas 👋, thanks for this video as you said people who are unsure and want to give it a shot. I want to know is a basic understanding of maths and statistics enough or do I have to revisit those concepts again to be successful in this field?. I have started this course just today. Your response will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.
I have a doubt... How much Data structures and algorithms knowledge is required for data analysts, data scientists, machine learning engineers? I'm learning data science... So myself becoming familiar with ML algorithms, SQL is enough or I need to know more about data structures and algorithms as well? How about cloud computing, is that also necessary? Could you explain this in a comment or make a video about this?
@@GuardienTTV Already asked everything is needed as per ChatGpt. ChatGpt offers it's suggestions for these questions but it's not the exact answer! My question is not if data structures and algorithms knowledge is required but it's 'how much' is required... And how much cloud computing knowledge is required, like deploying model is enough or in depth knowledge is required. She works in a big tech so she would have known what's that recruiters are looking for that's why I asked. As you know ChatGpt can be my tutor to larger extent! Already using it to learn data science.... And ChatGpt highly recommends developing SQL skills, solving DSA problems in LeetCode, HackerRank, Geeksforgeeks
No bro , no need to learn Data Structure for Data analyst/data scientist. only data enginer and ml engineer use data structures because they develop pipelines end to end, so they use most of it. for d.a/d.s no need to learn cloud entire only u have to now how to deploy the code and storage systems like aws-ec2, gcp storage .. @sakthi vel

For someone who has experience in Excel and SPSS with foundational knowledge of R and SQL, would the Google ADVANCED Data Analytics certificate be worth the time?
I think alot has to do with how you present it. I would look into this and maybe Comptia Data+. As long as you are competent in R and SQL (perhaps learning Python as well) - you are doing well for yourself. Spend money on a place that makes a great resume. Send your resume out and see how it works. There are many ways to get a job in DA, but how about chatting with someone who works in it? Knowledge can never be taken away from you. Money you can lose but knowledge stays so if this helps you it isn't a waste.
I’m assuming the Google algorithm landed me here..I just got to your video in the tableau course! Thanks for sharing your opinion as I try to journey through this career
It's too time consuming. As per me it's not worth it in the short run. As it also tries you to give you the right mindset. So if you've too much time on your hands sure go for it or else don't even bother.

Do you pay for subscriptions for SQL and Tableau, etc.. on your own/ like out of your own pocket?? Or can you get your employers to pay for these subscriptions? Just curious how you support some of these as they are kinda pricey if you pay for the highest subscription packages?
Is there a place where we could have our portfolio peer reviewed? I am currently finishing the capstone project for the certification and this seems accurate.
I am someone who is currently halfway through there Associates in Computer Information Systems. I am taking the certificate program to specialize in data analytics and understand more about sql and tablue. Is an associates supplemented with this course enough skillset knowledge to land a entry level Data Analyst job or should I just stick to web design/ help desk? It would mean a lot to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you for the commentary.

@@86Disab any advice on starting out in the banking industry ?
I am in the same situation. I'd love to know how it's going for you and your opinions of it.

Oh, really? Did that end up helping you get a job or stand out to recruiters?
@@pinkivankar9973 Odin project is a development project. How it related to Data analyst certification?
Can you elaborate about the odin project?
This is a great starter course. But remember, you need to learn Python after this.
I think there is a newer one. Advanced Data analytics by Google. This one covers Python
SQL*
@@ghettoghost2657 SQL
I kinda get both sides of the debate about SQL as a jack of all trades:
I tend to treat SQL as a language I’ll use to get data from a DB when I don’t feel like _writing proper application code_ and I can express what I need in SQL.
The short answer is yes. Stop believing this is a golden ticket to a 6 figure job.
I completed this course 5 days ago ..... After watching this video I guess now I will be working on projects to show my skills .
how long did it take you to finish the course?
Can we complete this course in one month?
thanks. As a practicing data scientist who uses R and Tableau a lot for work I think I will pass on the course for now.
Cheers and good luck to everyone.
any update
Just started the free trial last night. I don't know if the certificate will help me find a job, but I have absolutely no experience or knowledge 😅. For me, it seems worth it (it's $49 as of 5.09.2023).
Since I'm the type to deep dive into everything lol, I didn't expect to get everything I need from just the course, so I've definitely already started looking into other resources. Such as learning Python is preferred and suggested by many to learn
I’m starting this course soon, I’m absolutely excited to finally learn R. It’s been something I’ve been meaning to do.

Excellent guidelines. I finished it last week. It was Structure way of learning.
Amazing Congrats on completing it 👏

"R" is really making a sort of a little comeback, with the newer powerful packages such as "Quarto" being developed out of the R-ecosystem.
Got this Certificate 3 months ago. Is it enough to find a job at the end of 2023? Big NO. Think twice, you're gonna spend a huge amount of time and some money
My personal experience no, most of the skills learnt are very surface level and basic, but if you're looking for exactly that, it's for you.
Very clear explanation - all major questions are cleared, awesome video thanks. 👍
Can we complete this course in 1 month?
I appreciate your comment very much, this is the response that I've been looking for. Possibly a bootcamp would be better? I will do my research, thanks again !
I’m doing the IBM Data Analytics course. it has Python instead of R and that is the reason I chose it instead of the Google course. Will this course be looked at like the Google course when it comes to jobs or am I wasting my time?!
The short answer is no
Agree
@Ade Bakari its redundant and at the surface level.
These online certification courses are good for gaining some basic knowledge about data analytics but they should not be treated as an instant pass for landing a full-time job in tech.
oh wow, this is short, precise and quick to answering my questions
