The original Google Data Analytics certificate helped me landing my first DA job. I already learnt fundamental Python and its packages from Kaggle, but will be excited to take on this advanced course… after hearing some reviews a few months in.
@@malibu3602 Took me a while. I finished the cert in 3 months but got a job in Month 7. I learnt a lot more other stuff not covered by the cert and completed some projects for my portfolio in the months between.
I completed the first course within a month and a week alongside my MSc. Data Science Dissertation. The course bridged the gap between concepts and industry practices and has shaped the direction of my dissertation which is on machine learning. Although this advanced course is on concepts my MSc. has exposed me to, I'll take it to broaden my horizon. As a person from a non-tech background (My MSc Data Science is a conversion in the UK ), the first course did the magic of expanding my understanding in the domain and I believe this advanced one will do more.

Alex, I think Google is trying to help as many as willing to learn. In the first course they covered R and here they covered Python. I see google trying to give everyone the opportunity to pick the preferred software.
I can argue a little bit about the part of ML. Nowadays Analytics are using different models and regressions in their day to day job, as well with that, to be more competitive on job market is starting to get really crucial. So, this course covers you to more senior level responsibilities for DA.
Yeah, for example in HK, there are rarely entry-level data analyst roles that only require one to use SQL/R/Python/DataViz. Everyone manager expects you to know some ML modeling techniques - just shows that how much of a data wizard shortage is in here.
As ML is also used in data analytics, it seems fitting that Google included it in this advanced certification. They also mentioned that this certification will prep for junior data scientist positions, not just data analyst.
As a non-native English speaker, I took the beginners course (kind of struggling with the language at the very beginning). It took almost a year (11 months so far, I'm in the 8th course), with a couple of times where I had to work extra time, and maybe in total for 2/3 months I didn't spend any time in the course. I love the approach because I was a very rookie person. Now I'm more comfortable although I didn't land a data job yet I'm confident that in the next 2/3 months, I'll get one. Of course, I'll take the advanced Google certification, I love their approach and teaching techniques. PD: Almost forgot, thanks Alex!! You help a lot in this journey!! Greetings from Argentina

The Google Advanced Data Analytics is amazing. In my opinion, the name of the program should Google Data Science program rather than Google Advanced Data Analytics. Because it focuses on Data Science, just like the IBM Data Science program.

Bagging refers to the bootstrap aggregation, a Decision Tree Classification method where you make full tree based on the bootstrapped dataset. It is an ensemble method that is we group the results of these Bags and predict on the basis of combined result.
I have completed a long list of ds moocs on different platforms and I found two things: 1,a certificate, no matter what its name is, which uni/company it is from, is a completely different thing than a degree; in most cases it gives width instead of depth, and width alone can not let you have an entry level job ( there is a huge gap between completion of a cert and job ready skills); 2, ds path is already over crowded, a junior or entry level job, as long as it has 'analyst' in its name, will attract a lot more applications than other ones, if all you have is a cert or a dozen of certs then there is very little chance that you can stand out. I sincerely suggest that unless you have a genuine love for data, otherwise it is better you choose another path to start your career, it will be a lot easier.
Hi, I like your perspective. I have tried to break in to the data analytics industry with no technical background. It seems it’s the crowded destination for career changers, new grads from all areas. A single job post has a minimum of 200 applicants. It’s very hard to breakthrough. Any idea what industry would be relatively easy to break in? Cyber? Cloud? Thank you

thanks for his video that describes the certification really well. There's only one aspect I think you misunderstood. Data analytics is not data analysis : analytics does involve machine learning for pattern recognition, trend analysis, etc

I think this would be a great video. I have definitely looked into how AI would affect DA before changing careers. From what I have found so far, AI lacks the ability to interpret the data. Plus there are so many ways to gather data it may still require the human element for some time. The AI might be used to make the job easier which could potentially affect the pay scale. I would love to hear Alex’s take on this.

I checked the course material of " Google Business Intelligence Professional Certificate." and " Google Advanced Data Analytics Professional Certificate". I have heard from many data analysts including you(Alex) says that data analysts don't need to learn machine learning like regression, logitsics, etc . Also many data analysts says that most lesat skills used as a data analyst is python. and that is the reason i picked "Google Business Intelligence Professional Certificate". I plan on reviewing that soon! Definitely agree that Python is not necessary at the beginning. This is why I think the Advanced in the course title makes sense. I didn't need it till I was more of a mid-level analyst.

Hi, we are classmates! :D im on course #2. Personally I think we need to be very comfortable with the job scope of the 1st course, hone the skills and put them into practice (i.e. find a job as junior data analyst). When we get the hang of it, then it's time to take it to another level by studying the advanced course, which will earn us the senior data analyst title.
I'd finish the first Certification/ (Remember to create your Portfolio: a website with some projects). Practice a lot! Read those books about SQL, Python for Data Science, etc... Take the new Google Data Analytics Advanced Course... Update your Portfolio... and so on....

If you're brand new to Analytics I recommend the first Google Analytics course. If you've already learned the basics or taken that course, this looks like a nice step up.

How can you give it 9 / 10 if you haven't even done the certificate yourself? This is just a promotional video that you get money from through the link shared in the description. I'd urge people to read the reviews of the first Google DA first before deciding to pay for this. Don't get ripped again. The first Google DA cert was very underwhelming! People should first read student reviews on reddit etc! Do your research before enrolling people!

If you go back to my second video on the first Google Cert I did say this is very introductory for people who are just starting out. If you already know a bit it wouldn’t be for you.

The first google DA cert provided plenty of information for someone to get their feet wet and begin building confidence in themselves as they began to explore data processing, cleaning, analysis and visualization. With some light programming as well, you know, like an introduction, like a base, junior level position. And personally, throwing shade at one of the most genuine dudes on youtube, teaching DA for free is kinda crappy.

People can see that as being disingenuous. Especially after the way he described the first Google Data analytics professional certification being equivalent to a university degree lol. That statement alone by Google warrants a lot of criticism from these so called "reviewers" - we see non of that. Instead, we see all positive comments about the course, and we know why that is. People aren't stupid anymore. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Somebody with his experience and knowledge in the data science space knows very well that's its light years away from being equivalent to a dagree. The lack of criticism / real honest review of the first course contents says a lot. People out here are paying loads in fees for these courses after them being missold to them as something they're not. A combination of DataCamp, Udemy and freecodingcamp.org are a better alternative. Especially free coding camp! It's free! Funny how these resources are never promoted - because you can't make money off it. Free coding camp is amazing for somebody getting started. The likes my first comment received speaks for itself.

Interesting question - I would say this is a good Python course. I don't know if I would change the Python for Everybody course. That's a fundamental course for Python, but goes really in depth. This course is much more Analytics focused so it's quite different and narrow. This would come after the Python for Everybody course.

I agree w Alex that Google shld have put Python in the first Data Analytics Prof Cert. This Advanced course is 50% data analyst and 50% Data Science. You get to learn XGBoost algo.
The first one just wasn't enough for anyone to get a job, not enough focus on technical skills, just fluff. Also it was structured badly, they would be showing nested SQL queries in one video, and then showing the SUM function in Google Sheets in the next, very strange. So I'm skeptical about this one.
i'm looking to become a data scientist but the IBM data science course has been a bit slow for me, could you compare these two courses or is that apples and oranges since it's data analytics over data science
1) is there a prerequisite of taking the first exam before taking this advance version? 2) is the public version of Tableau enough to use for this class? why is Google sticking to Tableau for visualization? at the very least i'd expect them to be pushing Looker
As someone who is just now halfway through the original Data Analytics certificate course, I can't help feel a little sour. The first one was touted as a "learn-at-your-pace" course that would have you prepared to enter a job by the end of it. So now there's an "advanced" version; does that mean I'm going to have to pay for and work through another 3-4 months of classes to get a job anywhere because I only took the "basic" one? Is the original course I'm taking suddenly outdated and a waste of time?
If you're brand new and want a good overview of analytics, yes. If you know the basics I would go to this one if you want to learn Python for Analytics.
Thanks for the video, although I am not sure why would anyone get into field now unless they’re super close to retiring age since AI is developing much faster than we can imagine. Shortage of jobs is going to arrive sooner than we imagine.

Hey @dentanlim You can take Python for everybody. It's a foundation course on Python, and Dr. Chuck teaches that course quite well. However, I also see that the professional certificate this video is about includes a course on foundations of Python. If you're going to pay for the courses out of your own pocket, my suggestion would be to go for this certification course instead as Dr. Chuck's P4E course is available for free on UA-cam so you can take it whenever you want to.
Would you recommend this updated version versus the original version they put out? I was going to enroll myself in the original. Does the program and certificate actually assist with getting an entry level position?

I previously took the Google Data Analytics course after which i am currently taking the IBM data analyst cert. I think it's best to complete the IBM analyst cert before proceeding to the Google Advanced DA. Always good to finish what you have started. Looking forward to taking the GADA after this. @@ArtoriasSif you can take anyone first as you choose. Both the Advanced Google and IBM offer python while the first Google DA certificate offers R programming language. The difference is the Advanced Google DA has more recent materials since it's the latest among the rest.
Google is to AI, as IBM is to ML. Is it? Like Google is to software, as IBM is to hardware. Is it? As MSWindows, Arduino, Linox, Apple, Android, or other OS platforms. Flowcharting, got me.

Hi Alex! Your videos are very helpful indeed. After completing Machine Learning and Deep Learning Specialisations I am troubled that I must gain ground knowledge of DA. So I am between IBM's Data Science and Goggle Advanced Data Analytics Prof. Certificates. Which one would you recommend for someone out of the field who wants to get into DS (and AI especially)? I have studied radiology, working in Clinical Trials now and want to merge AI in medicine.

The Google Advanced Data Analytics is amazing.
In my opinion, the name of the program should Google Data Science program rather than Google Advanced Data Analytics.
Because it focuses on Data Science, just like the IBM Data Science program.

I have completed a long list of ds moocs on different platforms and I found two things:
1,a certificate, no matter what its name is, which uni/company it is from, is a completely different thing than a degree; in most cases it gives width instead of depth, and width alone can not let you have an entry level job ( there is a huge gap between completion of a cert and job ready skills);
2, ds path is already over crowded, a junior or entry level job, as long as it has 'analyst' in its name, will attract a lot more applications than other ones, if all you have is a cert or a dozen of certs then there is very little chance that you can stand out.
I sincerely suggest that unless you have a genuine love for data, otherwise it is better you choose another path to start your career, it will be a lot easier.

I like your perspective. I have tried to break in to the data analytics industry with no technical background. It seems it’s the crowded destination for career changers, new grads from all areas. A single job post has a minimum of 200 applicants. It’s very hard to breakthrough. Any idea what industry would be relatively easy to break in? Cyber? Cloud? Thank you

I did that first Google data course in a 2 weeks. But I knew most of the material. I know this python stuff, but I will do this. Alot of good info even stuff I don't know

thanks for his video that describes the certification really well. There's only one aspect I think you misunderstood. Data analytics is not data analysis : analytics does involve machine learning for pattern recognition, trend analysis, etc

I think this would be a great video. I have definitely looked into how AI would affect DA before changing careers. From what I have found so far, AI lacks the ability to interpret the data. Plus there are so many ways to gather data it may still require the human element for some time. The AI might be used to make the job easier which could potentially affect the pay scale. I would love to hear Alex’s take on this.

I checked the course material of " Google Business Intelligence Professional Certificate." and " Google Advanced Data Analytics Professional Certificate". I have heard from many data analysts including you(Alex) says that data analysts don't need to learn machine learning like regression, logitsics, etc . Also many data analysts says that most lesat skills used as a data analyst is python. and that is the reason i picked "Google Business Intelligence Professional Certificate". I plan on reviewing that soon! Definitely agree that Python is not necessary at the beginning. This is why I think the Advanced in the course title makes sense. I didn't need it till I was more of a mid-level analyst.

I think you should do them separately, its good to be ambitious but you need to make sure to absorb the content properly!
Hi, we are classmates! :D im on course #2. Personally I think we need to be very comfortable with the job scope of the 1st course, hone the skills and put them into practice (i.e. find a job as junior data analyst). When we get the hang of it, then it's time to take it to another level by studying the advanced course, which will earn us the senior data analyst title.
I'd finish the first Certification/ (Remember to create your Portfolio: a website with some projects). Practice a lot! Read those books about SQL, Python for Data Science, etc... Take the new Google Data Analytics Advanced Course... Update your Portfolio... and so on....

There is a reason 'advanced' is added to it name.
Its good to start with this as a foundation. Makes you know more about the cocepts which you'll definitely come across with is ur DA journey
If you're brand new to Analytics I recommend the first Google Analytics course. If you've already learned the basics or taken that course, this looks like a nice step up.

The first Google DA cert was very underwhelming! People should first read student reviews on reddit etc!

Just an initial rating based off everything I’ve seen. Looks really good! It is sponsored, but that’s my genuine review. If you go back to my second video on the first Google Cert I did say this is very introductory for people who are just starting out. If you already know a bit it wouldn’t be for you.

The first cert was wasn't certainly not. Too introductory level - barely covered the basics for R and Tableau.

@@mrahhmedable A foundation is required at some point, whether you like it or not dude. The first google DA cert provided plenty of information for someone to get their feet wet and begin building confidence in themselves as they began to explore data processing, cleaning, analysis and visualization. With some light programming as well, you know, like an introduction, like a base, junior level position.
And personally, throwing shade at one of the most genuine dudes on youtube, teaching DA for free is kinda crappy.

That statement alone by Google warrants a lot of criticism from these so called "reviewers" - we see non of that. Instead, we see all positive comments about the course, and we know why that is. People aren't stupid anymore. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Somebody with his experience and knowledge in the data science space knows very well that's its light years away from being equivalent to a dagree. The lack of criticism / real honest review of the first course contents says a lot.
People out here are paying loads in fees for these courses after them being missold to them as something they're not.
A combination of DataCamp, Udemy and freecodingcamp.org are a better alternative. Especially free coding camp! It's free! Funny how these resources are never promoted - because you can't make money off it.
Free coding camp is amazing for somebody getting started.

Interesting question - I would say this is a good Python course. I don't know if I would change the Python for Everybody course. That's a fundamental course for Python, but goes really in depth. This course is much more Analytics focused so it's quite different and narrow. This would come after the Python for Everybody course.

The course sounds very similar to my data analyst course I took except for the machine learning aspect (my mentor was the one teaching me data science basics when I told her I may be interested in becoming one in the future) I think I’m gonna take the course and compare it to my first course to see how similar they are

I agree w Alex that Google shld have put Python in the first Data Analytics Prof Cert. This Advanced course is 50% data analyst and 50% Data Science. You get to learn XGBoost algo.
I finished all yesterday, due to other commitments. They have examples in Jupyter Notebook as good references.

The first one just wasn't enough for anyone to get a job, not enough focus on technical skills, just fluff. Also it was structured badly, they would be showing nested SQL queries in one video, and then showing the SUM function in Google Sheets in the next, very strange. So I'm skeptical about this one.
i'm looking to become a data scientist but the IBM data science course has been a bit slow for me, could you compare these two courses or is that apples and oranges since it's data analytics over data science

As someone who is just now halfway through the original Data Analytics certificate course, I can't help feel a little sour. The first one was touted as a "learn-at-your-pace" course that would have you prepared to enter a job by the end of it. So now there's an "advanced" version; does that mean I'm going to have to pay for and work through another 3-4 months of classes to get a job anywhere because I only took the "basic" one? Is the original course I'm taking suddenly outdated and a waste of time?

If you're brand new and want a good overview of analytics, yes. If you know the basics I would go to this one if you want to learn Python for Analytics.

Hey @dentanlim You can take Python for everybody. It's a foundation course on Python, and Dr. Chuck teaches that course quite well. However, I also see that the professional certificate this video is about includes a course on foundations of Python. If you're going to pay for the courses out of your own pocket, my suggestion would be to go for this certification course instead as Dr. Chuck's P4E course is available for free on UA-cam so you can take it whenever you want to.

I previously took the Google Data Analytics course after which i am currently taking the IBM data analyst cert. I think it's best to complete the IBM analyst cert before proceeding to the Google Advanced DA. Always good to finish what you have started.

@@ArtoriasSif you can take anyone first as you choose. Both the Advanced Google and IBM offer python while the first Google DA certificate offers R programming language. The difference is the Advanced Google DA has more recent materials since it's the latest among the rest.
Google is to AI, as
IBM is to ML. Is it? Like Google is to software, as IBM is to hardware. Is it? As MSWindows, Arduino, Linox, Apple, Android, or other OS platforms. Flowcharting, got me.

Hi Alex! Your videos are very helpful indeed. After completing Machine Learning and Deep Learning Specialisations I am troubled that I must gain ground knowledge of DA. So I am between IBM's Data Science and Goggle Advanced Data Analytics Prof. Certificates. Which one would you recommend for someone out of the field who wants to get into DS (and AI especially)? I have studied radiology, working in Clinical Trials now and want to merge AI in medicine.

I started the google data analytics cert and I was just getting 100% grades on everything without even thinking even though I am completely new to data (I am only finishing my 2nd course tho but it took me only 2 days to finish "10 weeks" worth of challenges).
