    Reaper isn't free it's $60 for the license so if you want to legally release music you should buy it

      I definitely encourage everyone to purchase a license for Reaper!

      Many people are using the Evaluation version which is indeed free for evaluation, he stated this within the first minute of the video! Absolutely purchase Reaper if you plan on releasing your music. Lots of people who are recording at home can't afford a licence and the Evaluation licence is perfect to get you going! Thanks for the video, it is a great beginner introduction to the basics. Keep on rockin everyone 👊😁

    Alan, this is an insanely good tutorial! As someone just getting started with Reaper for home recording metal, this was everything I needed with no added fluff. Thanks so much for taking the time to post this.

    Nice simple tutorial. Found this on reddit. And I was sitting here painting in my notes in bar format hahaha. To anyone else watching, whatever you do, please do not use Quantitize, ever.

      Diamond mode is the way to go! And I tend to avoid quantize, too :)

    Thanks this video was very helpful. I am trying to program EZ drummer in reaper, so the process will be similar. My only problem is fills and knowing how man beats to put in. Made a simple drumbeat so far. just practicing.

      I have a question. I got rectangles instead of diamonds, and they won't snap on the grid. They are either snapping before or after the grid. Do I need to change something?

    Good tutorial! Do you set any particular option in Reaper's midi editor to have different colors for elements in drum set? In my editor every note is just a black rectangle and what I can see on your screen is much more readable.

    • @alansimpsonguitar
      @alansimpsonguitar  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you! And yes, there's a setting I forgot to mention. When you're in the MIDI editor, go to "View", click on "Color notes by", then select "Pitch". That should do it!

      @@alansimpsonguitar This is a great tutorial! Gave me some helpful tips. What's the difference between pitch and velocity though when doing midi drums?

    • @alansimpsonguitar
      @alansimpsonguitar  2 роки тому

      @@gr1mr33p3r Glad to hear it! Velocity is basically a measurement of how "hard" the drum/cymbal is hit. A low velocity is a soft hit, and a high velocity is a hard hit. I don't think pitch is a factor when doing midi drums, though.

    • @PowerRedBullTypology
      @PowerRedBullTypology 2 роки тому +1

      @@alansimpsonguitar Can you adapt the colors of the midi notes in reaper? I mean, when you have set it on pitch, each pitch will have another color..but can you adapt these? I am a long time cubase user where I've been using pitch colors so much that it feels like reading notes. It's easy when it's the same, so i can instantly recognize the pitches. Thanks!!!

    • @alansimpsonguitar

    Hey i have this problem where i want to change up the drum pattern. But when i remove some notes, it screws the beat up completly.
    Should i just add another midi file to fix that?

    • @alansimpsonguitar
      @alansimpsonguitar  2 роки тому

      I haven't come across this problem myself, but it sounds like you might have ripple editing enabled. Go to "Options", then see if "Ripple edit per track" or "Ripple edit all tracks" is enabled. If so, turn them off and try changing your drum pattern again.
