Dude João, you have come so far in your riff writing ability since the last vid I watched of you playing original riffs over a year ago. For what it’s worth, I think the time has come; the world needs João, now. 🤩
I have been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to program drums, and you just told me exactly what I needed to know in 20 minutes. This video is amazing. Thank you so much for making it!
Joao I think you still don't know how much this videos help people out there trying to make their own music. If it wasn't for you and all music content creators on youtube I wouldn't be half as good as I am today ❤️❤️
@@theperiidot I think this can work for styles of metal which have a kind of mechanical aspect to it, such as djent and metalcore. But I don't really see it sounding as good if you want to compete with more 'raw', experimental and more classic sound rock/metal.
Bro this actually does make writing drum parts feel so much more natural. Your thought process for it just feels like something completely clicked for me.
Nailed it! Drums have been so underexplained and for thise of us that didn't fully understand the mechanics of drum parts and how they correlate with melodic components, this is game changing. At least for me. Genius. Pure genius! Thank you!
I think I'm not lying at all if I say that this is BY FAR the best tutorial to get the fundamental concepts of drum programming that I've ever seen. Thank you SO SO much
@@joaoldmedeiros Actually, I'm using this concepts in a song I'm writting and most of the sections feel way better than expected hahaha so...yeah, Thanks again, this is really a very good tutorial
Maybe the most informative video I've seen, not only on programming, but drums in general! I feel like whenever I'd try to write drums over riffs, I'd just put things in and adjust based on trial and error more than anything else. Having a structured approach would've helped a lot back then. Content like this is invaluable for beginning musicians that might program in a "see what works" kind of way, but also for more experienced people who kinda got the hang of it, but still struggle to come up with a methodical step by step approach. I hope the feedback from this video helps you figure out which direction you want to steer your content towards! Sincerely, thank you!
When you explained the foundation I thought there is no way this is how people do it. But now that I’m listening for it I’m hearing it in nearly every song. Blown my mind!
As a guitarist, I am looking for this for a long time, appreciate for your hard working, clear, innovative and I am so grateful with every second you explained!
Been playing guitar for 30 years, played in 3 bands, always fascinated with drums, but my legs and arms don’t communicate. For the first time ever, someone has explained drums to me in the best way possible. Thank you. Great video. So good, my comment literally sounds like an amazon review for a product with 22 letters in it with two vowels. But I’m serious.
THIS IS THE SIMPLEST YET MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO LEARN HOW TO PROGRAM DRUMS. I'VE ALWAYS HAD A HARD TIME PROGRAMMING BUT THANKS TO THIS GUY THIS IS GETTING EASIER AND EASIER. THANK YOU.
Fear of failure is a bitch and its responsible for a lot of unhappiness or missed opportunities or probabilities for happiness in the world. It's better to fail and get hurt trying than regret not ever trying.
I've been doing this ever since watching the video. It works really well. Something that made things quicker for me- 1.write the guitar part in guitar pro (I do this regardless. I usually have to practice my part a lot before recording). 2.export as midi file 3. drag the midi file onto your drum parts. 4. use the transpose feature in your midi menu 5. set your range from C0 to C0 (this is usually what your kick is on in the midi controller.) Every guitar note is now synced with the kick drum.
I started learning how to program drums a few months ago, I've picked up a few of these tips from various sources, but it's so valuable to have them all consolidated in one easy to follow video. This was perfect!
As someone who’s starting out idk why I never thought of step one I always wanted to start at step 3 ….. but step 1 makes step 2 and 3 so much easier and it’s just kind of naturally happens… thanks for taking the time to make this video
