- Adobe Audition can create new audio files that contain generated human speech using your built-in operating system text to speech engine. Combine that with Google Translate and the effects in Audition, and you can generate speech in any language and in any environment!

I've used OS text-to-speech audio for a number of projects (Some work great for station IDs), but had no idea that it was available from right inside Audition. That's gonna save me some time. Thanks.

Audition uses the voices installed in the Operating System so if you install new voices, they will be available.

I love the "Far Away Source" present you used to create the airport announcement effect. It looks like you created that custom preset using three effects: FFT, Reverb, and Mastering. Is there a way you can share that effects rack?
Unfortunately no, you can't share effects or presets in Audition. This is a long time request from users including me.

That's not an Adobe thing and it's hard to stay ahead of the solutions out there as they come and go quickly.

This is one step from what I need to do. I have a Contract to be the voice for 50,000 Words which are random sentences which will in turn be used for TTS. So my voice will ultimately be one of the choices of a TTS Voice. They want it recorded pretty much at ACX standards. But they want signal in the 50 Hz range and the 20,000 Hz range. And they do not want any of the little strands/spikes in the signal to go above -3 Hz. But they do not want post production... so no limiter. Do you know of a set up using either Adobe or Audacity that will let me record in this narrow range? Today I'll try to reduce the volume on each signal that goes above -3 db to see if that works for them... otherwise this is a technical nightmare.... thanks for any feedback. Joseph Miller
I'm sure the effects in Audition could keep you within these ranges. If you put the effects on the input and print that to the signal, then it's not post processing, you'll just give them a file within their specs.
You might also want to look at Slate Digital's MOTT plug-in and put that on the input. What makes MOTT unique is it does upward and downward compression to keep you in that range. If you don't overprocess the signal too much, they'll never know you used anything.
All the Slate examples show it for music, but it still applies to voice:

Great tutorial and plan to do this for my ASL videos. Question - when I select the female voice I get a prompt saying I may not be able to use this for commercial purposes. Should I ignore this or will YTV flag the voice during upload? Also, where can I download a free female voice? Can you provide a link? Thank you.
The warning is about licensing. That voice was licensed by your operating system vendor for person use. I did a quick search for free voices and found this:

Adobe promised a completely different function for this, years ago. There was a demonstration where Audition could clip someones voice, learn it (even the cadences) and be able to repeat that voice into an audio file. Whatever happened to that breakthrough?
If you're talking about the technology "sneaks" at Adobe MAX, it's still being developed.
Many of those projects are created by intern engineers and only some end up being released. Some, like deblur in Photoshop, are nowhere near as good as the demo once they're released. 😧
Adobe MAX, thats where I saw them unveil Voco! That program needs to be fully developed like yesterday.

The quality of the audio is how that particular voice was created so there's no way to change it other than loading a different voice.

I'm working in Audition 2015 (v8.0.0.192) on a PC. When I click on Effects | Generate, I do not see "speech". All I see is "noise" and "tones". Any idea why that's not showing up on mine?

You have to add them to the operating system.

As you mentioned in your tutorial, Mac system does have variety of different languages such as Arabic, Japanese etc… I’m running Mac OSX and I don’t have any problem with that.
I tried to use my PC windows 10 at work and installed few languages in it but Adobe Audition did not pick or show the new installed languages on its platform.
I would appreciate if you could tell me how could you install additional languages on the Audition based on windows platform?

You need to update to the latest version of Creative Cloud.
I installed the audition cc 2105 version, but after converting the texts to speech the voice generated by adobe audition does not have a realistic feel, can you please help me that how to get a realistic human voice feel in text to speech (effect>generate>speech) in audition.
Audition is using the text to speech engine in your operating system so if you don't like it, then you need to seek out new options for your system. Look for new language choices for your system from either Apple or Microsoft.
Eventually new OS updates and CS6 will stop working.

I believe there are some restrictions for using the text to speech languages for commercial use. There should be an option in the operating system or the place you downloaded the language to get more info.

That's part of the operating system and third party voices. You can find some voices but the good ones you need to purchase.

Audition sees what the operating systems sees. I know Microsoft doesn't make it easy and there were several changes in the last few versions of Windows 10 but that's where you have to look first.

I csnt imagine any circumstance in a professional environment where these sounds are ever can be used. Maybe in the future when the speech has some quality and adobe already showcased what the future holds but at this stage it is useless for pro work

Sure, but I've seen more sneak demo products die before the idea becomes a real product. The Photoshop Shake Reduction filter is a perfect example. The final shipping version is no where near as good as the demo.

Sorry, I'm not sure. I would ask someone at Microsoft. I had trouble with installing and using new languages too.
There used to be an open source demo called flinger that would take computer generated speech and let you assign pitch to it, resulting in a singing computer. Is this capability available in Audition? (I still have the tool, but it's hard to set up and may not be compatible with modern OSs.)
I'm not aware of any feature in Audition for that. There is a pitch correction tool but that won't change the duration of the waveforms which is what you'd need to make something sound like singing.
Yeah, I thought not. I've been using Audition since it was Cool Edit (before Pro) and I'd have known about it. But since I was not aware of the speech tool you show in this demo, I thought I'd have a crack. I'm surprised the capability hasn't been implemented by someone. It's kinda cool.
I do think the original speech should be in the right meter, so actually the pitch correction might be a very tedious workaround. Flinger was sort of script based, so you'd embed delimited numbers in the text for pitch, IIRC. Come to think of it, there may have been a duration number as well.

Sounds like something Melodyne could do pretty easily. You can edit duration as well, if you want to.
Yep, Melodyne would be perfect that, including changing the formant to go from male to female.
Thanks, I'll check that out. Flinger was different. I was basically a simple script. You'd take the lyric text and imbed standard delimited phonetic cues when needed. You'd also imbed delimited pitch and duration information which I think could be exported from a MIDI melody line. Anyway you'd compile that, and the computer voice would sing. So it generates singing, rather than taking a monotone and applying musical parameters, which is what Melodyne sounds like. But it also sounds easier to use.

I'm not aware of any software that combines both text to speech and video editing. You have that capability when you use Audition with Premiere Pro.

Language option is diabled in my case. Please help. I am seeing only English version. MS Zira and MS david only. I have installed Hindi Language pack. Not showing in menu.
It's not something you can fix in Audition, it's something in the Windows settings that needs to change.
It didn't allow for pitch... that can make a great difference.
The features of the languages are not part of Audition so it would have to be part of the language engine to work that way.

Audition uses the voices that the Operating System has installed. If you can't see it in Audition, then it's probably and install problem with the human voice file.

This is not a plug-in, it's a feature of the application so it only exists in the newest version of Audition.

VideoRevealed I haven't played with this effect yet; however, similar to you I am running Win 10 pro. Although, I've partially disabled it; MS pre-packages Cortana (i.e. the desktop voice triggered assistant, like Siri); the voice it uses is more human sounding than the one MS seems to allow access to...
Cortana is not directly connected to that language feature; the voices Audition seems to referencing are part of the 'Accessibility' bundle i.e. vision impaired.
My question is, have you been able to determine if the cortana speech engine is able to be connected to Audition; as that is capable of natural language speech detection similar to Syri. So aside from the acoustic advantages; speech to text would be huge plus.
Please let me know if this is possible or if Adobe plans to implement this integration in future upgrade releases of CC
Audition uses the operating system's speech to text engine and not Cortana. That won't change in the future, probably because it would involve extra licensing and engineering for a feature that few people will use.

You'd have to check the Microsoft site but they are the typical ones you'd expect like UK English, Australian English.

Those language packs are only for spelling as the Canadian and UK English are different from the US.

For the Windows 10 Native voices, Zira is quite good. I use it in Balabolca, which is free and can be downloaded onto your system. (I had to remove some minor malware from it, but that was a snap with Windows Defender. Just a heads up on that). I use Audition 3.0 and if you go to pitch, you can change the voice dramatically, which makes for quite an improvement and the abilty to have her sound like different speakers.
Still, Audition 3.0 can't do much for the online text to voice. If you know of a way to take out some of the garble, let me know.

The issue is they are all robotic. I need a real voice. For the steep price, you should get real voices. They should not call in human speech if it sounds so bad.
The voices are from the operating system so Audition can't make them better. If you're just paying for Creative Cloud for speech generation only, you are missing the whole point to Creative Cloud.
