I've just come back to this video again for a new project. You've got an excellent way of putting things across which is info rich yet straight to the point all without being overly technical or patronising. Hope your channel grows.
Great video! Just for clarification: room tone and room echo are two different things. Room tone is the natural sound of the room picked up by the microphone when no one is speaking. Room echo is the amount of reflection that occurs due to the surfaces in the room which affects the sound a subject emits (speaking, singing, etc. in a church vs a sound recording booth).
This video is very crisp, clean and intuitive. I hate the videos that are a poor representation of what you are trying to do (ex if you want crisp sound and the sound quality on the tutorial is rough at best, it is a major turn away!) Thank you so much for posting. It's very clear you know what you are doing. ;)
If I want inspiration, I go to Peter McKinnon or Travel Feels. If I want to know how to actually do what they do, I come here. You drill things down in such a specific and focused way that is so information rich. But at the same time, you make it so easy to understand. You are highly underrated. Keep going. The recognition will come soon, I'm sure. Anybody trying to learn anything about premiere pro, beginner to advanced, should come to you first. I know I would recommend you to anyone and everyone. Good job, sir.
+TestPage - I am going to assume that you may not understand that using pirated (cracked) software is illegal. I am closely connected with the wonderful people at Adobe so asking me how to use pirated software is like asking a bank teller for a bag to put stolen money in! Seriously, do not use pirated software! Thousands of brilliantly talented people worked very hard to produce the tools we use today so I ask that you respect that by paying for any and all software that you use. Wouldn't you expect to be paid for your hard work?
VideoRevealed Pirating sucks. I've spent a lot of money buying plug-ins & applications to help my video production but 400$ for app like UNVEIL is a huge price. Cant imagine people seeing that as a good investment. For an example the industry standard (title given by JJ Abrams himself) 3D tracker SynthEyes costs only bit more than UNVEIL.
Cool tutorial. Im a sound engineer and i work daily with audio. Just to add a note, what is labeled (and you referred) as Q is what we call resonance. Both terms are perfectly correct but i thought you would like to know. Keep the great tutorials. Cheers
Thanks for the tip and happy audio editing! Just curious if you've used any Slate Digital plug-ins? I use them for my music projects and they've changed my world completely - my digital studio sound analog now!
I've tried them already and they're pretty good. But actually as a plugin for audio processing i only use Izotope Ozone as Excitor and everything else is Analog. But i might swap some of the analog equipment for software due to the need of realtime export which is time consuming.
Appreciate your series, Colin. Your focus on explaining/demonstrating a single topic in each video helps me concentrate on that discrete issue I’m trying to master or improve upon. It’s great in this segment that you show two ways to attack room noise; one using built-in Adobe features, and then the paid plugin “Unveil”. Viewers might like to know that the 3rd party plug-in asks for a price of US$360 plus tax, which is pretty pricey. Would those hard-working developers be able to sell a hundred copies at, say, 36 bucks more easily than ten at 360? Clearly that’s their business (literally). Again, thanks for all the useful videos you share with us. Great stuff!
Wow... Your technique using the parametric equalizer worked great for me. I wasn't dealing with the kind of extreme reverb you used in your demonstration, so it ended up working even better than I expected for what I needed. In the past, I tried using a second microphone away from the main to purposely pick up the reverb and then invert it to try cancelling it out, but couldn't hear a difference. Your method worked. THANK YOU!
My jaw literally dropped when you increased the focus in Unveil. I'm completely blown away by the power of that thing. Now i just gotta dig up 700 bucks somewhere.
Very well explained audio tutorial. I doubt that most would understand your efforts. However I find that it shows a way to manipulate audio in a professional context. Thanks so much for video and keep posting your knowledge. The world needs it!
+George Gardner - Thanks. I'm hoping some of these techniques will find their way into new users workflows even though they are typically for audio engineers.
Thank you for this video, it's beena huge insight for me. I'm a video editor by day but I'm constantly feeling more and more pressure to also know the audio side, to at least be able to tidy up dialogue. This is the only channel I can find which releases consistantly high quality videos. All the info is there, spoken very enthusiastically using easily digestable language. I hope you're getting the support you need to keep the channel running and thank you again.
Thanks for your kind words. Many editors are feeling the same thing and I see that all the time when I train editors at some of the largest media companies. Editors are wearing many hats and dealing with shorter turnarounds. The good thing is, Adobe has been listening and you are going to be so happy with what they're doing to make audio even easier in future versions of Premiere Pro.
Great video Colin! This was the only video with this issue that not only solved it, but gave me a better understanding of audio and battling frequencies. Keep up the good content!
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I had to fall back on my NTG3 direct into my camera, and this was a huge help. I generally record a Que audio DA12 directly into ProTools via UA Apollo and just use the NTG3 as a scratch track to align audio, but this time I had to use it for production. This tutorial was really helpful - always learning!
Amazing tutorial! thank you so so much. I am terrible with sound and this has honestly just saved my life! A bonus is that I was able to download a 30 day trial for Unveil as well. Thank you thank you!!!
I think this video is really helpful for me. I started with my co-workers to making videos for education and some of my friends told me that my videos have a bunch of echoes that really distracting. I try what era-4 or kinda things but I could not get any results that make me satisfy. I hope by using these tips make my videos better.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I LOVE your videos!! You are my GO TO tutorial for premiere pro!! This was extremely helpful!! FYI Unveil is now downloadable as a 30-day trial version!
Just did a corporate gig with Canon 5D Mark IV. I used a plug in lapel mic, but it doesn't appear to have worked and sounds more like camera audio instead! Just tried the plug-in you recommended on a 30 day trial and it makes a huge difference. Thanks for the video.
Colin just to let you know parametric EQ is an effect in Premiere Pro which means if you're looking for a quick fix and don't want to spend good money on the UNVEIL plugin, you can do what you did here in Premiere instead of Audition.
Adobe added the new Parametric EQ after I shot this tutorial and although you can get close with it, UNVEIL is in a league of its own and I've found nothing that matches it.
Great video but I need some additional help. When you were locating the frequencies to lower I was having a hard time telling what you were looking for as you searched your frequency. Were you looking for the echo to get worse or better? It also seems like it might take a pretty keen ear to pick out the frequency that needs to be lowered. My guess is that you were looking for the echo to get worse so you can lower the db of that frequency. Is that correct?
I was not listening for echo, I was listening for that particular frequency to sound worse as I turned it up. It does take some time to tune your ear to hear it but just keep trying.

A little tip to identify the frequencies: get used to the frequency analysis window and have it scan whole sections, you will quickly be able to just see them without the sweeping stuff.
Super vidéo très didactique. Je procédais en tatonant avec des résultats décevants . grace à votre méthode je suis rassuré de pouvoir dépasser certaines situations difficiles, Un grand Merci. Bonne continuation
Hello Colin, When you sweep the audio spectrum for bad frequencies, it would be wise to lower the eq gain the same amount you are boosting. This way, you won't be fooled by distortion during the sweep and you will get to keep your hearing longer :-)
+Femi Adebowale - Awesome. Audition is full of incredible features. Have you tried to remove vocals from your favourite song yet? Here's how: i.imgur.com/pqldeJx.png
Gold he gives the people! Are we all feeling grateful? Thank you! Years of experience and knowledge. Much appreciated good sir... better late than never I always say - especially if it's money...or the bone
Thanks for another super useful tutotrial! I have filmed an interview in a cowshed and I need to somehow delete the noise the cows are making. I have attempted to do it with this tutorial however no luck yet. Do you think it is even possible to remove such a loud noise of cows behind someone talking?
This tutorial might help. The big question is how loud the cows are. Give it a try: ua-cam.com/video/-8bNKs2ogBc/v-deo.html&index=5&list=PL6npGHFAQO7ehlroqwMGi49BWl0MixsC0
Thanks for the tutorial, it is really useful for other thinks and I'm happy to know about it. However it didn't help me with the cows, because they are louder than the talking and the noise they make is different a little every time. So will have to reshoot. Learned my lesson. Again thank you so much for responding!!
Zynaptiq Unveil is definitely an awesome tool, but a bit pricey for the hobby-user. I see Sweetwater has it "on sale" for $350. That being said, Audition is quite capable of getting good results "the long way." Very helpful overview of the tools to use in Audition!
Thanks Mikko. I am working on a new tutorial for the new ESP settings in Audition that give new audio users control like a professional audio engineer. Stay tuned!
Thhaaanx sir very muchhh !! That really helped me a lot ! I'm really about to cry of happiness!! I looked for this for months! Please sir , have u got any tutorial about removing the background of people talking? Thanx again sir
Thanks so much for the kind words and I'm so happy that you're happy! Removing people talking from the background is almost impossible because it's not a constant sound, so it's hard to distinguish from talking that you want to keep and talking you want to remove. You can try Adaptive Noise but it might not work.
Colins review got me interested, but the price of Unveil is beyond my budget. I found an alternative to the $$$$ Unveil in Deverberate. I've not compared them head to head but have used Deverberate and found it satisfactory at a fraction the price of Unveil. Perhaps Colin could sometime do a comparison for the more economy minded of us.
I'm working on another tutorial using accusonus plug-ins. ERA-R is $59 and does a good job. ERA-D is a little more and is close to Unveil. I will have an affiliate offering when my tutorial comes out in the next month. accusonus.com/
At 5:00, how did you shut off those individual tracks. I'm making a Rubik's Cube tutorial for my channel and a video class, and just starting out with Premiere and Audition. Thanks!
At that point in the video, I am not shutting off tracks, I was turning off each band of the Parametric EQ. If you want, you can press the M button to mute each track. Maybe that's what you're looking for?
+VideoRevealed thanks. I've been trying to find how to make myself sound less "tin canny". I've played with all of the 1-5 numbers, but I don't know how they function really. Is there any functional difference between these? I know 1-5 are each used for a general range of frequencies, but the thing that confuses me is they can be dragged into another number's frequency range. So, are they just 5 adjustment points to use as needed, all serving the same purpose? Any tips on reducing the echo/reverb?
+Rubiksguy Ive definitely tried to do my research (about 7 hours of it), but no tutorials really give a complete beginner to audio insight as to the functional differences between each of those sliders. Yours has been the best tho, so far.
Generally speaking all 5 points serve the same purpose to you can freely move on point into a neighbouring frequency. There is also the option of High Pass and Low Pass filters that will not have a bell curve and they are at the extreme left or right of the settings. They're aren't going to help in this example but you'd use them for something like reducing the amount of competing frequencies in a musical composition where the kick drum and bass guitar need some separation.
How do I like this a thousand times? What a superb tutorial. Bravo that man.
Oh wow, that's really nice to hear. Thanks so much for that.
I've just come back to this video again for a new project. You've got an excellent way of putting things across which is info rich yet straight to the point all without being overly technical or patronising. Hope your channel grows.
Thanks Grant.
Let’s just clarify this: this channel is the best tutorial in the world for anyone that speaks and understand English.
WOW! Thanks so much for your kind words and support. 😍

Can I ask a question / My boom guy gave me a clip of room sound - how would I use this in the timeline ? Thank you !! I am a beginner in audio
It's truly astounding how easy the internet makes learning these days. Thanks for the tutorial, my guy.
I always come to you for all my questions. I've learned so much from watching your channel.
Instruction is so entertaining and comprehensive.
Thanks so much, I try my best.
You are a very gifted teacher. I've been teacNice tutorialng soft for over 50 years and really appreciate your video being a beginner in soft soft.

Unveil is priced as a professional solution and in most cases you could cover the cost of it in a single job.
Hands down, tNice tutorials is THE best beginner video I've watched. Others want to brag about all the sample, loops, etc they have. You keep

Wow I've been editing podcasts for a couple of years and that unveil plugin is crazy!
It really is!
Great video Colin! This was the only video with this issue that not only solved it, but gave me a better understanding of audio and battling frequencies. Keep up the good content!
That's excellent. Now you can work just like the audio engineers do!

Yep, we've all had it happen where we end up having to use inferior audio and these tools can really save the day.
Have gone through three tutorials before yours, and yours was just awesome!! Easy to understand and I had much success. Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for your kind words.
My second time watching this after more than a year. Still bloody helpful and brilliant. Muchos gracias Colin!
I'm glad you liked it and thanks for your support.
I filmed 30 short vids in my lounge room with the DSLR - all ended up with that room echo. This is great thanks!!
Glad to help and good luck on your videos!
Literally had this issue a second ago and in seconds, this channel AGAIN saving the day!
Wow, that's great timing.
THANK YOU!!!! you actually guide your viewers through soft, unlike so videos that rush the whole tNice tutorialng or talk too fast.
Amazing tutorial! thank you so so much. I am terrible with sound and this has honestly just saved my life! A bonus is that I was able to download a 30 day trial for Unveil as well. Thank you thank you!!!
Yay! So happy to help.
Thank you for doing all these. You have a wonderful channel. You are a great guide. Straightforward, easy-listening, solid advice.
Thanks Kyle, I try my best to create great content.
You are a real professional and I learned a lot from you. Thank you very much for these excellent videos. Keep on going please.
Thanks so much.

I'm so happy it worked for you.
Very good video, you´re helping people who works with edition all over the world (I´m from Brazil!) with your tutorials.
Wow, thanks and hello to you in Brazil.
Just did a corporate gig with Canon 5D Mark IV. I used a plug in lapel mic, but it doesn't appear to have worked and sounds more like camera audio instead! Just tried the plug-in you recommended on a 30 day trial and it makes a huge difference. Thanks for the video.
I'm glad it worked out for you.
Dude. Your are a savior. Wish I had seen this before I finished my most recent project. You have helped me get comfortable with Premier Pro. Thanks.
Thanks for your kind words and support.
You're the man, Colin! Glad to see this one has a good number of views :)
Yes, this is one of my most popular tutorials.
That Unveil plugin is INSANE!
I know, it's crazy amazing.
Seriously amazing tutorial! I watch it every time I'm having trouble with bad sound during speeches. Thanks so much!
That's great, and thanks for your support.
TNice tutorials is just the pick up I needed, thanks man

Most helpful i ever found on the youtube so far......million thanks to you!!!
You're very welcome.
Just found your video. Very well done and a great help. This was just what I was looking for. Keep them coming two years later. LOL.
Thanks.
Great video but I need some additional help. When you were locating the frequencies to lower I was having a hard time telling what you were looking for as you searched your frequency. Were you looking for the echo to get worse or better? It also seems like it might take a pretty keen ear to pick out the frequency that needs to be lowered. Thanks Alex.
I am getting back into production after so ti and tNice tutorials makes it so easy to understand. Thank you so much for making these videos.
I feel like it's no exaggeration to say you are a godsend. I've been making my own soft since i was 14ish and since then it's beco my
I'm glad you liked it.
this tutorial is very useful for me,i have already resolved my problem as you showed when i edited my video, thanks for your teaching again.
Glad it helped
Best audio tut I've ever watched.
Really? Thanks so much.
Best soft soft Introduction Ever!!
Smart using your example video as part of the explanation... nice touch to a tutorial.
Thanks Isaac, and thanks to my wife for helping me shoot that example!
Hi Colin, just watched your room echo vid, great job and a massive help for me. Keep up the good work.
I sure will and thanks.
A little tip to identify the frequencies: get used to the frequency analysis window and have it scan whole sections, you will quickly be able to just see them without the sweeping stuff.
Yep, that's a great tip!
Super vidéo très didactique. Je procédais en tatonant avec des résultats décevants . grace à votre méthode je suis rassuré de pouvoir dépasser certaines situations difficiles, Un grand Merci. Bonne continuation
+Aiman Saad - That's great. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Mr.Smith. I found your (so informative) channel just few days ago...subscribed immediately. Keep on the good work. :)
+DrejcD - Thanks so much. More tutorials are on the way.
Even though my native language is Spanish, this video helped me a lot!
Is the best one I've found.Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching.
Excellent job. I was able to clean up my audio within 20 minutes and, while still some echo, 100% better from the original.
That's great and thanks for your support.
Hello Colin, When you sweep the audio spectrum for bad frequencies, it would be wise to lower the eq gain the same amount you are boosting. This way, you won't be fooled by distortion during the sweep and you will get to keep your hearing longer :-)
Well holy smokes, that there is a great idea. Thanks Claude.
Colin, you are AMAZING!!! Keep this gold coming Bro!
I sure will!
Really appreciate the video .I would like further demonstration on how to use actual tutorial in soft to make soft .
Nice video, congratulations. Is there a better plugin now in 2021?
No, it's the same. If you want the best (what I use) then Accusonus is where to look:

WOW, thank you for this video! Totally saved my project and taught me some enormously valuable basics about Audition. Great video, great teacher. :)
Thanks Ryan.
I've just come across this tutorial and found it very helpful, thank you :)
You're welcome.
Great video, very easy to follow for someone who has never even glanced of Audition before this! Thank you!! :)

That's wonderful.
Best tutorial on echo removal.
Wow, thanks so much!
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you for making such an informative and great video. Very, very helpful.
Thanks wonderful to hear! Thanks right back at ya.
Thanks for the unveil plugin! Works miraculously
It's pure magic!

Very helpful, thanks from an independent filmmaker in Greece.

You're welcome.
How could I come here and don't like and comment this aweome content. Thanks for your help.
Glad you enjoy it!
I´m not much of a sound guy and this video helped me a lot. Maybe getting more into audio :) Big ups for your input!
Thanks Mikko. I am working on a new tutorial for the new ESP settings in Audition that give new audio users control like a professional audio engineer. Stay tuned!
Colin, sensational! Really. What a great video.
Thanks so much.
