Awesome video. Straight to the point and easy to understand. The translation trick is awesome because most of the tutorials only explain about captions/subtitles but not how to actual translate them! Good luck with your channel. The only bad news is that the page you are recommending no longer offer free translations. The translated word files are blocked from being edited or to select to copy and paste and if you try to just translate the text without uploading the file then they ask you to subscribe if your lines are more than 60.

@@justplainduane7145 Thanks. I was doing a translation for my first real video (my trip to Ukraine during the war) and I had to subscribe to the free trial in order to translate the document but your video is still awesome!
What I did in order to make it work, was to convert the protected Word Document to a PDF, and open with Acrobat. This will make it possible for you to select everything and copy+paste.
Just in case you redo this video, it would be great to see how you can import an extra caption on the track. Although most people might think UA-cam kind of does automatic translations, I read somewhere that UA-cam can incorporate .srt files to help with search engine stuff so at least having it in two languages might be very useful. In my case, the videos I'm working on is in Korean, so translating it in English hopefully will help overall. What I have been able to figure out is to do the following steps (They are not perfect but hey) 1) Export your .srt file. 2) On Google search for ".srt translation". The first link should hopefully be Akbar on Development. This site is a little annoying because it has some annoyingly huge ad banners, but it does seem to do the translation pretty good. You can then upload your .srt file, choose the google translate language you want to translate to and then it does it. Seems like you have a nice interface to make some changes if you want to review it before downloading. 3) Then download the file, and drag that into your project media. 4) Create a new track (right click on the caption track). When you add a new track, it will hide the existing one. 5) Drag and Drop your new .srt onto the new caption timeline. Before doing this I recommend styling your first caption the way you like it and saving that style. This way you can just select the same style for the new caption and make minor tweaks you want.
This was amazing. Saved me so much hassle. Although, I would just like to add to export the text with the video, choose "burn captions into video". I needed it for social media videos.
can I ask how to just delete the first version of the transcript (in premiere) so I don't have to start a new sequence to load a new transcription in with the translated language
I ran into a couple issues that I resolved: 1. Use the PAID version of DeepL Translate - Cancel before 30 days @8:33 2. I 'duplicated' an existing TextEdit file > copied & pasted the Word Doc contents into that file, so as to *Not* Destroy my Original . . .@9:23 😥 3. To Import that TextEdit file back into my *active* project in Premiere I 1st *Deleted* any other Subtitles Layers > then clicked on "import captions from file" @9:33 4. Note: Before importing I had to convert the .TXT file to an .SRT (manually (rename) or automatically - using software). 5. Done ! I love Just Plain Duane's video here, but felt this video, **Did Some Stuff,** I didn't quite understand. So I explained what worked 4 me. Hope this helps ... someone. 😃

Your video was straightforward, however, it didn't work. I'm using Premiere Pro 2024 version 24.1 and I want to translate an English closed captioning to Spanish. When I try to upload my text file, it does not automatically add it to the caption track. I followed your instructions to the letter, so any additional help would be great.
AUGUST 2024 HERE and it works! but I just used the auto translate from Word to translate an english movie to spanish for my dad. Go to Review>Translate>Traslate all document (my Word is in spanish so I hope the names are that in the english version) and then do as the video says. And now this is important, do EXACTLY as in the video (9:11 to 9:23) save it over the original text file (you may want to creat a copy before just in case). For some reason, when I clic in "saved as" the new file didn't work for premier. PD: I have Premier and Word in their 2023 versions. And I download the languague pack in my case, not sure if relevant (you need for the auto captions at least)
That DeepL Translator just does not work and it wants you to pay soon enough. Also, the exported MS Word file from that website doesn't even let me edit, or copy the text. All that said, I found that simply using Google Translate and a simple text document works just fine rather than dealing with MS Word or SRT files (for UA-cam purposes anyway). A lot simpler process, and it worked just fine to upload multiple language captions to UA-cam.

In Adobe Premiere 2024 you have to create the sequence in a specific language, therefore, the "Create Captions from transcript" window changed completely. Do you know how to change the language of a sequence once it has been created? For example, I created a sequence in English, and now I need to make a transcript in French. But when I try to create a new sequence within the English project I don't get the option to have the sequence in French or whatever language is available. Please help me.

Thanks for the video. For English transcription to English subtitles Premiere does a very decent job. There are always a few mistakes here and there of course but they are easy to correct. However, if you try going the other way for example - like using the supported German transcription, exporting the .srt (in German) and then translating into English...it's pretty much a disaster. That's a real shame and I hope Adobe steps up and makes it much easier to really 'translate' your videos and choose an appropriate subtitle language.

Hi Richard, I do have a paid subscription for DeepL do take advantage of a 1 shot copy and paste. I have also used the trial or free version of DeepL and copied and pasted in sections and create a full document, its extra work but if your video is not too long its not a deal breaker.

what version of Premier Pro are you using? also is it up to date? the only other thing I can think of is maybe the type of video file you could be using, I have not run into this issue yet with version 23.1, I know if the audio is not great it could flag some issues or struggle to transcribe.
@@justplainduane7145 thanks for replying man. Im on 23.1 , everything up to date. I struggled until I decided to just manually insert them. Then I ran into not being able to make them bigger, I could only change font. So I turned them into graphics and then it got easier to copy paste preferences.
This works so good but when i try it the DeepL doesn't include all the numbers of the order the translation comes. The number above the timecode. Do you know how to fix this because in your video it's included?
@@justplainduane7145 it does give me option to translate to all the languages but the translated filed that i get afterward doesn't include all of the numbers of the order the cations should be. If you look in your video at 7:36, you will see that you have a number above each timecode that indicates the order the captions should be while imported. This is not included on every caption of the translated file. So i had to manually go in and put in numbers in about 300 rows which is really annoying. In your video at 9:11, your translated file got the numbers included above the timecode.
@@simonkallinfilms I had a look and did the same signed out of my account, without signing up for a formal trial or purchasing it will limit you to 5000 Characters like Google Translate does. I would say you have 3 options: 1) sign up for a trial use it and then cancel and resign up to avoid paying 2) pay or 3) you can use the translate text feature and translate 5000 titles at a time, paste your entire doc, find the cut off then paste and translate the untranslated content and repeat until you complete the document, this will be easier than manually for hundreds of rows. Unfortunately without signing up you are limited, I have a subscription with DeepL as I do with Adobe Premier Pro, that's what I can see that is limiting you from me, let me know if this is not the case and if you do have an account with DeepL I can take another look.

Did you try just renaming the .SRT file to .TXT and upload that to DeepL for conversion? Saves the whole docx conversion steps.
