- We were very happy when we heard that Acura was bringing back the Integra, and even happier after we drove it. We really feel that their new effort fully lived up to the Integra reputation. Well, the good news just keeps on coming, as Acura has just released the new Integra Type S. Could we possibly be any happier? Well, let’s hit the road and find out. #Acura #AcuraIntegra #IntegraTypeS

MotorWeek, PBS' award-winning weekly automotive magazine provides unbiased, consumer-oriented car news with feature stories on related topics.
I find it fascinating MotorWeek can make even the newest of episodes feel like they got made in the 1990's. Audio is buzzy like if done on a boom mic, video looks like 720p, cast is the same John D, same old school country club suits. I love it.
Given that this is public television, they probably are using the same equipment from the 1990s
which is a testament to the late 90s early 2000s vibes and it translates nice if they really are using old equipment
Right on the money lol
While I appreciate the same thing, they probably wouldn’t take this as a compliment 😂
I thought the exact same thing. Took me back 20-25 years!
It’s so nice still seeing John Davis on motor week without him there is no motor week!
He had hair before, but not anymore.
It's amazing how many UA-cam car channels are so completely dependent on MotorWeek footage from yesteryear and even to this very day. This is indicative of just how truly on top of their game they are.
Maryland is one of the centers of the car enthusiast universe.
You know, there really are a lot of beautiful country roads
John Davis thank you for your service!!!!!!
Took delivery of mine two weeks ago. At 69, I'm way too old for a CTR. This car fits the bill, a true gentleman's sport sedan. It is just a blast to drive! And I'm no stranger to sports cars. Worth the sticker, and no BS "Market Adjustment" added on.
I got mine in December at sticker. I'm almost 62.
Acura, knock off $10k and you got a home run
The reality is even with $10K in markup over MSRP these will still sell like hotcakes.
AWWWW. broke ass?
For all intents and purposes the same "market" price as the Type R. This car should be mid 40s IMO.
You a lie. That’s the Civic
Top trim should be 40, they are making this car for like 30K max. It's a civic with lip stick and brakes.
😆
yep and with ADM the Civic costs MORE than the Type S@@rahimi4762
Well you are WRONG
That's why it makes no sense. Civic is the same and less $. Golf R is better and cheaper. This has no market. They should have just made it a special numbered edition because this won't sell in the USA...@@rahimi4762
The car is cool, but yeah, that's a steep price for a FWD turbo 4-banger. The dealer markups will be what really kill it for the average buyer, though.
The wife and I are on vacation presently and we are looking to replace her 2012 GTI Autobahn DSG that we purchased new. The Integra Type S is one of the vehicles we are considering. We visisted three dealerships and 2 had the vehicle marked up 10k with an additional 2.5k in dealerhship add-ons and the other dealer wanted 15k over sticker. Each dealer relayed to me it is a special car, I just chuckled.
Dealer markups are virtually gone already on them in my experience, several Acura dealerships are sitting on them already. I predict discounts on them fairly soon
@@jameswillard1 Unfortunately, markups are still the standard for certain models in SOCAL (Orange County and San Diego County). We are also considering a VW Golf R with markups from 5k - 15k. We can get a new BMW M2 for MSRP and we may go that route. We have an 18 BMW M5 F90 and prior to the M5 we had a new 15 BMW M3 F80. The interesting issue is we test drove both the M3 at 82k MSRP in July of 2014 and the M5 in August of 2018 with a MSRP of $124k. Trying to get a test drive in Acura Integra Type S and Golf R is like pulling teeth and has not been possible. Funny we did test drive a new Audi RS3 with no issues but they wanted 20k over MSRP. My wife of 37 years is the frugal one and I would have no problem spending 70k on a new M2 even though we are not thrilled with the exterior design of the vehicle.
@@geneg6343
That overpricing would have me Testing the new IS500 Performance Pkg.
Wayyyy stop crying
I own a 2020 Civic Si - quick, fun, reliable and averages over 32mpg in mostly urban driving. I went to look at the Integra - don't see myself "trading up."
I still have my '18 Si and after all I've done to it, I'm keeping it! Ktuner on 26 psi with 93, ARP head studs, 27WON cold air, Mishimoto intercooler and piping, Stop Tech rotors with Hawk pads, Motegi Traklites, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's, and an ACT clutch.
@@RodofAllTradesall that to barely break into the 13s.
@@Marbind I highly doubt it touches 13's! I've added a considerable amount of weight to the car between 48 lbs of sound deadening to the 200lbs of stereo in the trunk! It still pulls pretty good though.
Amazing because the SI and this Integra are the two that I have my eyes on right now. It's worth buy the SI outright right now then buying the Integra at 50k, having to lease or finance.
You'd have to pony up another 25 grand over your little 1.5 liter turbo
This Integra is so far from my 2001 ITR it's almost hard to believe. This thing seems like an old man's car, not that that is a bad thing really, just not nearly as raw or communicative as the original or even the few GS-R sedan's I drove back in the day and if anyone knows anything about love affairs they'll know communication is absolutely vital 😊
Just picked one of these up for 48k brand new. I'm in love with this car.
Looks like a $28 Civic
@@williamdavis4809 haters gonna hate
@williamdavis4809 😂...no it does not. Go look at one. I get compliments all day. As a matter fact I was parked next to a corvette c8. When I came out of the store the c8 owner was looking at my integra type s 😆
Awesome car, my wife and I love it
All it's missing is Acura's SHAWD set up. This car would be fantastic with AWD and a sub 5 second 0-60. For $36k a mazda 3 turbo will give you 90% of the performance and luxury 'feel'
That's a pretty fast car people don't realize how fast 13.8@104mph actually is until u take your own car there & race it
That's really fast for sure!
That car should be in the high 12's
Yeah it pretty fast. For Honda fan bois that is.
fast 15 years ago yes, but not today.
@@iwhineTL it's a front-wheel drive 2.0 turbo how fast do you want it to be? You must just be somebody who reads a bunch of numbers & never raced at a track
Nice. I love the interior and exterior, but pricy.
I don't know who to check in with everyday, now that the 12 days of Christmas live stream feed is no more.
Another great review as always. I absolutely love this car. Out of the many new cars being produced, this is one I am most excited for. I hope to add one to the stable soon in this spec and with the copper, metallic rims. Perfection. Well done Acura. Well done.
$52k is crazy... $15K over A spec is definitely not worth it
52k today is 28.5k of 1999.
Just saying isn’t crazy is average.
@@Marbindnah...your adjustments are off
25k in 99is like 40k today
Ie..v6 accord exl..was about that in 99..today 40
@@nickcancelliere5638 lets say is 28.5. Considering that the typical ITR was sold for more than 30k back then.
Wait till the cars get older then by them. Not worth buying them new and full price. Cars are a bad investment.
At the dealership, it’s $25k markup at $79k to $85k and monthly payment is $1700 to $2000 per month.
Thank you Acura for bringing back the color blue.
Love the show, John is great !!!
I wish they lowered the price by 8k, and added a moonroof, memory seats, and a rotary knob for infotainment. My 6-cylinder BMW had those features 10 years ago at a similar price.
I cant think of another vehicle as agile as this one with those features with a 42k price tag.
Gotta love them talking about the cars sound but the guy not shutting up for even 1 second for us to hear it.
A rear wheel drive biased awd option would be awesome.
NSX 😂
You'd have to call it something else at that point. FWD is the Integra's heritage.
@@KardiFan2000automatic ?
I thought pricing for the Type-S in Canada was bad but that's awful in the States. Still, I like the car, definitely over the Civic.
We’re so used to being letdown that a FWD Honda is nearly $60k and we’re praising it like it’s the greatest thing ever. I reject this abuse.
Just look at the lap times that this thing is capable of and see what other cars can do better.
Then you will understand the price.
Cost of a new type S in 2002 was around $26k out the door, adjusted for inflation it’s around $46k in today’s dollars. Consider the amount of technology, refinement, and extra trimmings of the latest gen, starts to look not too bad. Not to mention the business implications of producing a niche car like this in the current landscape of auto industry. Fact that they are still putting out cars like this has me feeling hopeful.
This car is for guys in their 40s like me that was thinking m340i...in the 60s...or a lexus is500 f sport in the 60s but said damn..this thing is lighter...still quick..a stick...flat in the corners...a hatch back..no sunroof because I don't care...and looks better than the others i mentioned...for 51k? I save 10 to 15k? Cool..i will take it...so I bought it.
When these hit the used car market in a few years. I will be all over this one.
I have a 2023 A Spec trim with the CVT. Wonderful car overall with fantastic handling and fuel economy. My only complaint is the road noise inside the cabin is high at freeway speeds.
its a civic
I've been* a huge Honda fan for years, porud owner of a 2006 S2000. $52k is INSANE
How much do you think a new S2000 will cost today?
It wont be cheap pal.
Inflation will ruin your argument. Everything is more expensive.
A base civic starts at 25K. 30ks are around the corner.
@@Marbind I'm not discounting inflation but a rebadged and a slightly different civic type R should not cost 25% more.
If the S2000 was sold today for exactly what it is, a 237HP RWD true roadster. I'd expect it to cost around $44,000.
@@truthseeker764 wrong, inflation is the main problem here. Is happening on all makes and models.
36k from 2006 will be around 52-54k today.
@@Marbind Wrong, S2000 in 2006 was $32500, that's how much I paid for it brand new off the lot zero miles. You can try to argue all you want but facts are facts. $43k car being sold for $53k if the buyer gets "lucky" is ridiculous.
@@truthseeker764 32500 in 2006 still 50k+
The dollar got weaker.
In a few more years you will be unable to buy a base civic for less than 30k. 🤯
Facts are facts 🤭
If only they gave us rear wheel drive to the ones we want that option , i would buy one in a heart beat
I liked the car but not for this price! A few grand more and you can get into a Mustang, Supra and Z. And they're all better performance car
That's not the market this car is intended for. Don't buy it.
I feel like if Acura released the Type S alongside the normal versions of the new Integra it wouldn’t have gotten the amount of hate it initially received.
People will hate it anyway.
Prelude for the win
It may even be the car that would help Acura expand to global markets such as Japan, Australia, and so on.
Acura, expand to Japan? Boy do I have some news for you
@@ryanvess6162 What news?
@@roberthoyt7921Acura is Honda in Japan.
acura will never go to japan. Australia is a possibility tho
I think we're at the limit of if fwd performance. that much torque on a prepped surface and it still couldn't find traction in 1st gear.
Does it snow in your country??? I would love to see you do test in snow and ice. You see in my country America we have states (Arizona and Colorado) that get around 300 plus inches of snow. You driving around on dry streets means nothing to us that have snow and ice. Thank you.
Needs 2 doors for me to like completely
Any FWD vehicle is a compromise to save on costs and space. I can totally accept it in the 20-30k range, but cannot at over 50k. Does Acura know that any number of vehicles, that are not FWD, are more compelling at that price point- BMW 3 series, Audi S3, Acura TLX, etc?
Haaaaa...the whole point..nostalgia and legend is fwd on hands R and S civic models..obviously you have never driven
Inflation soon will make a base civic cost 30k. Is already in the 25k.
The value of this car is in the agility that makes it a road course monster and a pleasure to drive in backroads.
None of the mentioned above come close in this price range.
You have to opt for the RS3 or full M series
@@Marbind For my money, would rather have a Civic Si that the Integra.
@@nickcancelliere5638 I had a Prelude, and have no nostalgia for that model.
Have decided a while ago that will not be buying any more FWD vehicles as I can afford something better these days thankfully.
To say the front isnt aggressive was absurd to me. Really!? LOL
I've driven both the Civic Type R and this and my question is what is so great with these two cars!!
My EK9 Civic Type R is still far more exciting to drive.
they'd absolutely destroy your ek9 in any format. I love Hondas so no hate here.
LUL It has more HP and costs more than the EK9. Nothing good about that. I'd rather have a combination of a EK9 or DC2R, heck, even a FD2R than current gen Hondas all the while saving some money.@@RelaxAndSmokeMeth

Beautiful car, love it!! Happy there’s a manual!! ……but not all of us want 4 doors!! GIVE US A 2-DOOR!!
Just throw in the towel already Motorweek. The entire viewing experience felt like a lengthy, paid-for-by-Honda, commercial.
Your formula worked when it's all we consumers had in the days of broadcast television.
You basically gave me what I could've already read in the vehicle brochure and not much else.
Interesting that youre experiencing wheel hop on launch in higher performance fwd vehicles from Japan.. toyota had it too.. youd think they wouldve engineered that out. but then again they probably figured we consumers wouldnt be doing quarter mile runs... silly manufactures. Nice to see some companies still making sedans.
5.5 0-60 and it took several attempts to get a good launch.
This car is gonna age like milk.
nobody buys a honda, or any FWD car because they want a fast 0-60, they'd just buy a muscle car instead
There is more than 0-60.
Being able to take a corner at high speed is something that this car does really well.
Better than many others.
Much better sound, Thank you.. Now if only Direct injection didn't sound like a cement/trash diesel truck.
$52K? A brand new BMW M2 is quite well equipped at $63K and it blows doors off this car.
$52k for a 5.5s 0-60 they're nuts
It’s 5.0-5.1 seconds in everyone else’s tests, but if you’re going to rank cars on merely how quick they are to 60MPH for the money then obviously a manual FWD car won’t be the ticket
This car is for those of us who prefer stick shift, handling and feel over drag time.
Cool and all, but 90s Hondas are where it's at.
Awesome car and a good price!
yay John!!
I really miss seeing John Davis behind the wheel. Why does he never drive the vehicles anymore? Put him on track with this thing!
he's too old obviously..
You want to kill him?
@@SHOUTband 70s is too old to be driving? GTFO of here with that nonsense. John Davis is a damn legend.

Because it wasn’t designed to be an off the line monster.
Is a road course beast.
I come from a 4s 0-60s car that handles like 💩. The driving experience is totally different in my ITS. Exit ramps and local back roads are now fun.
@@Marbind I've got a 2018 Civic Si that's modded and I love it! The handling is unbelievable, but where I live, AWD would make more sense. I owned a Subaru Legacy GT once and I loved it. I had ZERO issues when it snowed. I would actually go out when it would snow 4-6 inches and just go have fun.
nothing like a 60yr old in a suit stuck in the late 90's to tell me about a car that was discontinued when he was in his 40's
You can get a nicer more loaded TLX type S for like 7 grand more. I drove that one & it was fun but a tad heavy
Brah TLX is way more heavier lol
The difference is that some people like it being a manual transmission. I would love to hop on the TLX with manual stick. That's not the case. This car is a special gem from Acura. Fastest manual stick shift Honda. TLX is just another automatic.
Heavier and more cramped interior.
@@Marbind😂. I own one. It's cramped like a 5 series.
I paid 54 with two dealer options. The teggy is nice, but there's no way I would pay that for this little car.
John davis is a legend the best reviewer of all times 😮😮
Perhaps I'm spoiled, but I continue to be deflated when car after car is hyped, and then the actual numbers come out. I gauge a sedan based on my ownership in the early to mid 2000's of a WRX, STi, and LGT. Every one of those vehicles were faster than this. For more 'hyper' sedans, I bounce it against a previous owned Audi S8 4.0 TT which I bought used, and to date, not a single vehicle at that same used car price point comes near to its performance. I really want to like this vehicle. It's good looking, seems to tick most of the right boxes (maybe not the fwd aspect though), and comes with a manual trans. However, these numbers seem slow to me. Perhaps it is the driver? Track and weather conditions? I don't know but when a 20 year old stock Subaru can lay down a 12.9 sec. 1/4 mile, and this one is near an entire second behind....it makes me shake my head. Definitely a used car prospect given the MSRP. I predict it'll drop fairly quickly too due to the manual. Picked up a Caddy ATS-V for a great price for that same reason, before they started to become more popular with those considering collecting.
I own a 2024 Integra Type S in platinum white pearl and I love it
Will sell like hotcakes, BEST in class
Over $60k with dealer premium. They will sell maybe 5000 of these in the US next year...

Pricing is too much.
Welcome to 2024 inflation pricing is too much everywhere.
Car is an instant collector car. Has all the ingredients - underrated performance, price is too high, comparing it to shitty cars that are faster on a drag strip (they all lose to EVs anyway) or have more HP but weigh more, special to drive, 6-speed, etc. Too unique and too expensive, just like any other collector car. People are going to be dying for these cars when they are gone. Everyone wants one but at a lower price.
this car is just as fast or slow for that matter as the srt 4 neon, Evo, Sti, 350/370z, any muscle car from the early 2000s. Let that sink in. How anyone can praise this car is beyond me.
Honda purists are the worst fanboys.
The funny thing is they can''t even afford the cars they defend so much...@@Sonic_1000
If you're only looking at acceleration and specsheet numbers then you're a fairly common/entry level sportscar enthusiast. Your tastes may/should mature as you grow up and get more experience with cars. Do you track and have your HPDE4 to really appreciate nuances across different cars? The average person really has no idea what they're talking about beyond the feel of which car is faster when they floor it. I'm mostly a RWD purist but if you've ever driven FWD cars with any moderate amount of horsepower than you should be able to appreciate how they nearly eliminated torquesteer in this car. The Type R & S are quite likely the best performing FWD cars made to date- if the niche demographic of FWD cars is interesting to you.
Plenty of men just ripped that silly three letter badge off and put an Integra badge on the rsx
5.5 secs is fairly slow to 60 for a sporty car in this day and age.
A Honda Accord Sport with the 2.0T does 0-60 in the same time. Accord is only about 3/10ths and 2 mph slower in the 1/4 mile.
Meanwhile it leaves behind cars like a hellcat in a road course.

@@Snake-ms7sjuntil you turn the steering wheel or brake that you realize the inferiority of the accord compared to this car.
@@Marbind it doesn't quite rip though, in a straight line and it's unclear how it would do on a twisty road when pushed. it's slower than my 2011 cayman s despite having the same horsepower and more torque. this car is a bit too heavy for its power figures and may not have the right gearing. it's trying to be too much at once but maybe some people like that compromise.
