2024 Acura Integra Type S // Road Review, Drag Race + Lap Time

- Опубліковано 18 лип 2023
- The 2024 Acura Integra Type S ($58,328 starting in Canada, $51,995 starting in the US) is a brand new performance sedan that shares the same 2.0 L turbocharged VTEC engine as the Civic Type R. Being the more luxurious Acura, the Integra Type S weighs slightly more than the Civic, but has 5 more horsepower with 320 hp total. It has also seen some Type S specific suspension tuning and a rowdier high-flow exhaust that creates more pops and bangs.
But does it succeed as being a luxury-infused sibling to the Civic Type R? And how does it stack up against its stiff competition? Thomas and James can’t wait to put it through the paces on the Throttle House Test Track and drag strip! We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!
Huge thank you to @Unity.Performance for letting us feature their FL5!

I absolutely love the way James always says "and I'm James". It's like a super excited child whose still just a tiny bit nervous to be on TV. Literally puts a smile on my face to start every single video!
You meant internet not TV right? 😂
It's like he's just happy to be invited to the birthday party!
The dealers are going crazy with this one. I’ve seen $70k plus price tags
I saw one for 82k the other day. Thats insane for a Civic
They did that with the TLX Type S and look at how available those are now.
Acura having the American aspect will be more available than the Japan made Type R.
@@trentimus5700really? I didn't know anyone wanted that TLX (besides the hardcore brand loyals)
My local Acura dealer doesn't mark them up. I bought my 2000 Type-R from them for sticker as well.
And idiots are paying for it 😂 imagine spending 50k on an 4 cylinder front wheel drive integra 😂
If I could get one at MSRP I’d choose this over the Type R. I just love the looks of the ITS and I like how there isn’t red carpet in the ITS. I’m a V8 guy but man the ITS is just very compelling to me.
No way in hell I would pay that much money for a damn Civic, I don't care how fast it is, it's still a FWD civic

Although the platform has changed so much, I still would love to see an “Old vs New” on this from you guys
one of my favorite series on the channel... DC5-R vs DE5-S ... TH lets make it happen!
db8 integra would be interesting to see next to its successor.
The question is if they should have the old car be an Integra type R, or an RSX type S.

Looooooove the back-to-basics approach on this review. No scripting or side stories. Just cars, driving and good characters.
This and what they normally do are great too
Uhhh
I mean they do go over a script in advance with talking points but yeah they don't follow a verbatim script
They do this mostly for comparisons and drag races.
Add just for story this car! Do something spent for the buy sell.
James, Thomas & the crew, it was great getting to spend the day with you guys again with our shop FL5! From where I was standing behind the start line the launches were perfect on both cars; ITS definitely showed its low and mid-range torque advantage in the drag race, so a very fair win to it 👏🏼
It's true the +R mode in the FL5 is dialed up too stiff for use on anything but the smoothest of surfaces. We daily drive our FL5 on a different 18x9.5 +45 275/35R18 setup and even tried 265/40R18 on 18x9.5 +38 setup, both are better for real world use.
Now it's time to mod this like our shop FK8 build, and get it up in the 4xx whp range so no stock ITS can bully it around 😂
Edit: Savagegeese shared in their video that the ITS Dyno'd with 15 more WHP (same fuel, same day, same dyno). It should come as no surprise the DE5 will win a drag race.
Ah I KNEW there was an aftermarket exhaust on that Civic! It sounded too good to be true!
I saw somewhere else that exhaust on the CTR can actually HINDER performance, so I'm wondering if it helped or hurt here. But... NOT STOCK! Come on TH, should have mentioned that.
edit- I just noticed the tiny little reference at the bottom right. I missed that one... I can't imagine it would make that much of a difference but maybe in larger print next time or an audible reference. If drag races are being used as a metric for cars like these, let's at least have all the facts.
@@optronix Car felt no different in terms of response before and after the exhaust, the Integra Type S just has the legs on it in a straight line. There's other videos that also show the ITS getting ahead in a drag race because it's tuned for early-mid range power delivery
Still going to get the FL5 hopefully by next year.
Need to get my Sales Manager on speed dial to put me infront of that queue to get my hands on one.
In the roll race, all the Integra's advantage looked to be mid-band related with the gap stable at the end. 5HP won't really make any difference but bumping the torque curve will.
You guys are also forgetting extra drag associated with the FL5
The rear wing , combined with the rear diffuser and redesigned bonnet and front fascia all work together to produce 92kg of downforce at 200km/h
It is also why the previous gen (FK8) is faster in a straight line as the new FL5 is a more track focused car.
Killed it again guys. Was waiting for your review of this! Well done.

Coming to Canada later in the year, i really need to meet you guys. Great job
Your comments on price hit the nail on the head. Back in the mid 90’s, the Integra GS-R undercut the entry level Bimmers and Mercedes to the point where they made sense. You got an option loaded and performance value. Today, not so much. From what everyone has been saying, you get a great car, it’s just difficult to really justify buying when compared to the offerings from Audi and BMW. Shit, I would consider a VW Golf R and save a couple bucks in this price point range.
elantra n maybe too?
its an acura tho , its so much more reliable than the European cars. Its expensive because of the quality of the materials. The amount of money spent on repairs / maintenance on BMWs in the long term is greater than the price of an acura.
@@soulfulmaplethis is no longer true. If you look at any quality data the last ten years, Acura is behind the Germans
@@soulfulmaple good point
Even compared to older Honda offerings they don't make sense. For $58,000 I could import an AP1 S2000, DC5 Type R , CL7 Euro R and still have over 10 grand for mods, repairs and gas. The new cars don't even have real VTEC.
Happy birthday again to James! Love the throttle House team!
Your videos never miss, do they? Keep up the good work
Objectively it’s a great car. The problem is the Honda and Acura dealership markups that have been going insane. The last three years have changed the reputation of these cars from being ”Oh wow look a cool car,” To “Someone with the financial literacy of a dolphin paid $75,000 for that civic.”
Dolphins are smarter than that 🤣
if you go on the forum, you will see most people paid MSRP for these cars.
@@sonnyzhao2309 it's prolly 60 40
This is the only interesting car they are getting in the decade. They are going to mark it up every chance they have.
@@sonnyzhao2309 Nope, they've paid MSRP + dealer installed options (required) at best they only paid $5-7k over and high interest rate loans. If you don't get killed by Honda's markups there's also the interest rate and application fees. Anybody here who spends over $60k on this car and doesn't own a house shouldn't be buying such an expensive car.
Thank you for the race between these two cars!!!!! Def a race I've been wanting to see.
That was great. You guys are awesome as always. 👌😎
Thank you for reviewing cars we can afford and enjoy. The truth is we spend most of our time in our daily drivers, so they should be frisky, engaging, and comfortable. Honda/ Acura is rock solid in all these departments.
Except that Honda is almost exclusively using pathetic weak 1.8l engines
type s integra is 63k here in oregon...
Median income is 38k and these cost over 60 on average 🤣🤣🤣
This, and I wish more manufacturers focused on their Fun Daily cars. I daily a base V8 from one of the Big 3 and like it more than I like the idea of any of their 600+hp versions. It works great for a little freeway pull or some growly acceleration between red lights and doesn't kill my wallet at the pump. The extra bit of fun you can practically have with the superchargers isn't worth the extra costs.
You can afford these? Lol. Here i am wishing in a perfect world, when i pay off my 21 wrx i can upgrade to 1 of these.
This was a heartwarming video Happy birthday Thomas. So many iconic moments I absolutely loved this
I love your guys’ videos so much. I’ll literally watch a review on a car I’m not really interested in just to see your take on it.
Genuinely amazed at Thomas's track lap time consistency. To the hundredth of a second 😮
Pricing and availability have really killed the lust for this and the Type R. It's a real shame because I've always been a Honda fan at heart. But I'm happy with my Elantra N and it's nice hear Thomas agrees too
1000% The elantra N is so direct and communicative that it feels like it is connected to your brain!
Well said. Fanboys are doing to them what happened to the MK4 Supra and Honda have priced it accordingly
Same path for me. Always been a Honda guy, but I'm really impressed with my current Elantra N. I've done 30k (km) in the last 5 month of my EN and it's aging well... Sucks that Honda is limiting production of Type-S. A lot of companies are purposefully disrupting production to increase inflation which isn't cool, cause most people I know are suffering from inflated cost of everything.
I really wish the EN had a better looking design. It’s such a good value, and does look badass, but it’s just not a beautiful and cohesive looking machine, which holds me back from getting one.
@SIIKAP1 you gotta see an Elantra N in person and drive it. Pictures don't do that car justice at all.
The test car these guys got for the Type S has the same issue as the A-spec they received for their first integra review. The black exterior color. It just hides all the design characteristics.
But if you like the murdered out look, the flake in the black looks pretty good. But black paint will never really look great on a car with this much gloss black plastic that has the purpose of defining the edges in the design.
The white and apex blue look fantastic, and with the copper wheels....my gawd
Also the orange peel in the Integra logo shots 😂
As someone who loves black car, I kinda agree :(
Elegant new series before Glamor suspention.
For me, you guys give the best reviews on cars for one to decide on which car to buy/choose, even though I cannot afford to buy the cars you review 😅. Fun and ABSOLUTELY INFORMATIVE, period! More power to both of you and the to the Throttle House team.
what a great video. so educational and entertaining at the same time.
It’s a great car (as is its Civic Type R stablemate ) but sadly, even excluding the dealer mark ups it’s too expensive for ordinary consumers. Enthusiast vehicles are now only affordable to the well off, and not the every day consumer that they were originally targeted for.
find a dealer without markups. when I was looking to buy a FK8 Type R 2 years ago I found lots of dealers wanting ADM but ended up finding a dealer who would sell at retail plus $1000 in dealer add-ons. I also was looking for a new Cayman GTS 4.0 last year and a dealer offered me one at MSRP but I ultimately purchased a 981 GT4 instead of waiting a year for the allocation to come in once ordered.
@@_Suzuka_Joe still think they're out of range for most folks. I found one for MSRP, but I was more lucky that things happened to work financially for me.
It’s MSRP is about $4500 over the average median price for a new car in 2023. And that gets you a sub 3300lbs 4 door with a manual that can pull 1.02 G’s on the skid pad that has good resale value and legendary reliability and it’s not too slow either…the only other car that fits that criteria is the Type R.
The Elantra N is about 90-95% as capable as the Honda twins for about $14-15K less… depending on options and add ons of course.
Yep a loaf of bread isn’t 10 cent’s anymore!!!
price has already gone down, a dealer near me was offering msrp (52k) as out the door price with nothing else added but Im hesitant to buy a manual car in high traffic area
@@_Suzuka_Joefinding any dealer selling at MSRP is like winning the lottery these days

This is how you do a car review. Fantastic editing, unscripted, not reading specs out of the brochure. Good job guys.
yeah.... this is definitely scripted. I'd guess in a Top Gear style. They may not write word for word, but the core, topics and puns are all planned. Not saying it's bad... but you got to be realistic here.
C'mon this is not a 2 guy video channel. You should know better than that.
Of all of the videos that I have seen of this thing, it seems like such a quiet car for what it is.
I thought the music at 0:20 was turbo flutter for a second and got really excited. Another great review of a car that's already marked up to an extent usually reserved for Ferraris and Porsches!
Loved the back seat view on the hot laps. It would be cool to have a speedometer in the bottom to see how fast your going.

About time guys!! I have been waiting for this one since the new release of the Integra.
Finally u released this!
OMG thank you so much ive been waiting soo eagerly for your guy's review i love your opinions! and videos of course!
Honestly, for me the biggest value proposition for the Integra is that Honda/Acura are in a different league of reliability and maintenance cost than its performance competitors in the Germans and Hyundai/Subaru. In addition, if you like to work on cars yourself, the design of the engine, the layout of the car, and even the amount of space you have in the engine bay is so inviting. When these cars are 10 years old, out of warranty, parts getting replaced anyway, they are going to be tuner dreams.
Great review and ending comments!
James is hysterical !! During that drag race that comment @ 6:00 is spot on James. Thanks for another great show.
As always, amazing video. Love the Europe vids and the high stories, as well as these simple just well-made car reviews.
Finally a reviewer that actually shut off traction control the right way. You earned my respect now. Great video!
I bet the nerds at savagegeese don't even know this.
@lukemothug I'm sure they know but won't take the extra step. I see videos of people saying " Let's turn of traction control" and hit the traction button which just limits how aggressive traction is but it's still very aggressive. I have the integra and by doing the "pedal dance" it shaves off around .5 secs from the 0-60
@@AnotherRichEXP after you turn it off, do you have to do the pedal dance everytime you start the car, or does setting remain. ANd if it remains, is there another dance to turn it back on? Planning on purchasing this car in a few months.

The amount of times the "Integra" on the rear bumper was used with a pan shot, was more than 20 times. The same shot. We know because of the piece of leaf that was on it. Lazy edit =) LOVE the channel, videos, knowledge and commentary! Long time fan and will continue!

A race around the track is a real race in my opinion because every mechanical component of the vehicle is being tested/used, and both the civic and Integra are capable of hanging and beating some pretty fast cars on that lap time leaderboard.
The competitor discussion at the end was the highlight for me. I think, options in the $30K-ish range are more relevant to most of us.

Pugginess. James level of sophisticated word craftsmanship is unncany, unique , world class and 2nd to none.
I was able to land a Type S for MSRP. The Type R’s are going for more than what I’m paying because of the insane markups so it was a no brainer. The price isn’t great but there’s extremely limited options for practical sports cars with manual transmissions unfortunately.

Great review! I'll second James' comment about saving $20K and getting a WRX. Add some coils and a tune for $3K and it will keep up.
Agreed. For $1100 you can get a Cobb Accessport, intake, 91 tune and be making ~310-320 whp.
Rather get a last gen STI. Have you seen Syms STI on the Hot version of Best motoring? It can beat tuned FL5 CTR. Don't think any car can't be modded and go faster.

Honda might not be using the angry little NA motors any more but it's good to see them still making multiple fun little fwd cars I'm interested to see what the Honda community looks like in 10 years when more people can get their hands on these as well as the base integra and civic si
Speaking of the better grip with softer suspension, Keiichi Tsuchiya and a colleague took the FL5 around Tsukuba and ended up getting their fastest laps in Comfort mode. Wish you guys could go back and try more laps in different drive modes on your track.
I watched this same video of dk doing this lap in the fl5 arount tsukuba in comfort mode, and pulling faster times. The r mode setting is just stupid. It's so stiff the car becomes bouncy and it actually makes the car less functional.
I bet in individual mode with the engine in plus r and the dampers on comfort it would have beat the its. They are both great cars though.
@@adim00lah Oh, yeah, it looked way too stiff, especially for that track and those tires. I guess the good thing is, it's available to use when you have a smoother track and sticky tires (probably good with R-comps) just by pushing a button without having to swap out suspension components. I'm pretty sure I'd use +R for Solo II autocrossing, too.
Agreed. On a glass smooth track, the FL5 would shine. It’s more dialed in. However in the real world, the DE5 is just faster all around and it better be for the price difference. There’s no way heated seats and a few extra speakers make it cost 7 grand more, especially with those tacked on rear fenders which can be removed if you pull hard enough
@@bim1376 But an extra 8k for 5 hp tho?
@@adim00lah I’m saying. I don’t agree with the pricing structure. That and the Type R will always hold the crown for resale and desirability. Good review. 🖤
I'm sure they're great cars, but the pricing on both the Type R and the Type S is just insane. The $15k price jump from the Si to the R is crazy enough, but then Acura felt like they had to price above that for the Integra and it ended up in M240i/S4 territory which is just way out of its league. And if you start looking at used cars it gets even worse for the Type S. It may be fantastic, but I don't see myself ever owning one.
It’s 15k better than si and s for sure. Can’t argue with the bmw argument. This will probably last longer and have cheaper maintenance overall than 2 series or Audi. but if you can get it for the correct msrp pricing it’s seems worth it.

James trying his hardest to say Titanium.
Another banging review gentleman!
Awesome song at the intro
Im only at the drag race portion so dunno if its mentioned later but the ITS has more than the 5hp on paper over the CTR. Savagegeese already did an in-depth comparison video and dyno’d both cars, the ITS actually makes over 15hp to wheels more than the CTR! So should explain how it pulled on the CTR as it did
I'm not in any way an expert, but I would say 5hp on paper because that is the official number. It would be 15hp in real world testing with independent dyno. Maybe different testers get different results? In my opinion, the real difference is in the mid range torque tuning.
Same engine diferent tune 😂 on all K20C1
@@mikemccormick6128 mid-range torque also helps the exit out of slow corners on the track. Creates more torque steer through.
I think you meant unofficially. On paper, or officially it has 5hp more.
@@mediocreman2 I agree with you. I said officially in response to machine_spirit saying "the ITS has more than 5hp on paper over the CTR". So what he is saying is that on paper the ITS has 15hp more than the CTR. I strongly disagree with that statement. The number that Acura provides is the official number. The number that an independent tester provides is an unofficial number. I'm not an English major so I could be wrong. But to me, the "on paper" number would be the official number.
I saw one of these in metallic white when I took my MDX Type S in for service. I think the car is great looking. Would love to drive one but they are pretty rare at this point so might have to wait till the dealership gets another one. BTW, where was the GT 350 time in your list of lap times? Did I miss it?

Great Video, would love to see a Old Vs New of a dc2 integra type r compared to the new integra type s!
Paint of intergra was so amazing
Canadian price makes sense, in the US it's the same as the M240ix (which is insane). Personally, I'll forego the 6MT (although I love mine in my RSX-S) for 100hp, AWD, a moonroof, and oddly enough much better mpg. At $52K USD Acura got too greedy. Fan bois will buy it though as it's super low volume for a reason.
52k is MSRp. They are selling these with markup
yeah that price point is insane. If the BMW didn't have such bad steering feel it'd be a very easy decision
yup the Type S in Canada is $43k USD.
The Integra Type S and Civic Type R will cost double than the M240ix when they get at least 5 years older.
@@Av3ntur0zky that's because the majority of new BMW's on the road are leases, and the few owners tend to get rid of their car once the warranty expires.
Honestly, very happy your track is “bumpy” because it can also reflect a curvy backroad. Our W204 C63 sounded great on curves but in reality, it was too stiff and stepped out on bumpy turns
If I was looking to get a CTR, I would definitely look at the Integra and vice versa. The ultimate factor would be the OTD price from dealers.
Great vid boys, I love hondas but Thank you for adding that you'd rather have an EN than either, makes me feel a lot better about my VN purchase over a year ago. Having to trade that in plus 20k plus. Yeah I'm good =]
It doesn’t matter if you win by a inch or a mile , winning is winning “ vin diesel “ 😂😂 I think I heard that a thousand times growing up.
I love Honda so much but its too pricey. Im actually inclined to get the WRX at this point and just colour match the body panels for less than a grand. I saw some builds and they look like a modern STi when you get a wing with it. My only concern is the engine... I also am considering the Mazda 3 Turbo which looks absolutely stunning, and there aren't many builds out there yet so I can probably get away with a unique car for myself here in northern Canada hehe.
Always enjoy you guys, Hate the fact I think I want an Integra over the Type R
The production quality just keeps getting better and better. Great episode as always
The type s is something that i can see myself owning. Ive always been a fan of any car "in a suit." I like to have fun with something understated.
My first car was a supra in a suit (sc300), my second car was a Camarao in a suit (Ats) and the type s would continue the trend. My favorite part about these cars is that you can alot of the parts from its cheaper sibling, when things go wrong.
I like this and the Type R but yeah, they are both too expensive now. Great episode though and thoroughly enjoyable. Throttle House continues to be excellent and highly informative.
