Thanks for sharing. Great info. I'm curious who came up with the original black tote with yellow lid? They are an awesome storage solution. I think we have more than 100 now.

This is awesome! Great idea. Really gets you thinking about what else can be done like this. I really like your idea of selling the training courses and becoming a certified installer so he can focus on the sales arm on the business.
Congrats on your success! I checked out your web site and have just one suggestion: the font used on the product name ("4 x 5 Mobile Shelf") is almost unreadable. Never sacrifice readability for style. Best of luck going forward!
Great idea, I got excited for about a minute until I looked online. A ton of sellers making these in my area for $250 unfortunately. Guess that's what happens when you share great ideas. Too easy to make and no barrier to entry does not make it a sustainable business though.
Saw your post on Twitter and started a business building these immediately in Tennessee. Thank you for sharing these ventures on your youtube! Reach out if anyone has any questions or interest!
What happens when he has sold to all of the customers in his local market? (What’s the next plan, since he has invested in scaling up in a warehouse but now sales are dropping because of fewer customers)
Well he lives in Salt Lake City Utah, over 1.2 million people. SLC area has a lot of Mormons which have large families, pretty sure he will be busy for as long as he wants to continue doing this.
By that time people have moved into the area more houses are built etc. Does not seem like an issue for a small business. He’s just trying to make a living.
What totes does he recommend (brand/store)? I would think that different places have slightly different size 27-gallon totes (maybe I'm wrong) which could be a problem if they don't fit. Does he sell the totes too? I see the price does not include the totes but I'm thinking he could make a few more dollars selling totes, even if it is just with a $1 mark up. That's an extra $20 profit per sale on average and if the volume is there, he could source from China and make even more margin on the totes.
@@salvataz Those same 27 gallon totes are $9.99 at Home Depot, the only ones I can see without a membership at Costco at $49.99 for a 4 pack. If they are a better price if you are a member please let me know. Cheers!
In California you would need a contractors license in order to install the shelves. You could make and sell them without an issues though. I wonder how applicable this is to other states.
If is on wheels... There's no installation, it's a mobile furniture. Sell them at your place, then do free delivery. And the client roll them in place.
I'm in Florida. Here you can attach to the wall, as long as you don't make any structural changes, you don't need a trade or contractor license (other than a business license). I know a closet company that only installs closets, nothing else for that reason.
I just checked materials in my market, the 20 bins would be $200 alone. I know he buys in bulk but still. Estimated cost for me to build same size unit is $500

There’s a guy in vegas putting “the shelf dude” on the wood and selling it 😮

He can move.
That would take a while
Then he starts a shipping business lol.

How do you load something that big and heavy onto a truck?
Great video by the way. The ideas you gave the shelfguy are so good.
Cool idea. Maybe I’ll make some for myself
Where do you buy the plans? Does it have all the supplies, tools and instructions needed?
Plans? Just build them custom to the customers needs/dimensions

Shipping is way too much. From china you would need to bring a full container to make it pencil
If you’re building them semi-custom you would just ask the person what totes they have and build it to that spec.

Even without wheels, drop it off in the driveway and let the homeowner move into the garage

Sorry about that, it's updated to his Linktree. Try again now.
FYI: The Epoxy training is cheaper $1200.00 in Fort Lauderdale Florida with the number epoxy supplier. They are excellent ask for Rudy or Nick.
Seems this is less labor and startup costs if you already have a place to build.
Who's is Rudy or Nock in the Epoxy business?

$770, looked at them here in houston and they have 12 tote options for $115.....
No they don't. The wheels by themselves cost that much
Try buying one for $115. You'll be scammed. I promise
