You should begin by looking out for those with strong records. Also make sure the person is registered. Personally, I use Marie, Kelly Matwick. She's not so popular but you might have heard of her. And from my experience, they're usually way cheaper than you would expect
As a service contractor of 40 plus years who builds client bases in a ten mile radius of the shop what I heard was: One tech can manage 150 homes, or 30 yards per day. This translates to 16 min per yard including travel. 8 min as claimed to do a yard fits with my huge back yard and two dogs, but only 8 min of travel between jobs would mean they are all in the same neighborhood, on the same block, or real close. I understand client density but this seems very best case, and rushing like that leads to accidents in the field or driving. Excellent presentation regardless, and this guys systems are solid and the golden key.
Thanks for sharing your perspective! Your experience really adds depth. Client density definitely plays a huge role, and it's true that optimizing routes can be tricky without sacrificing quality or safety.
My mom used to pay the kid next door to clean up her 125 lb labs poop. She paid per pile and it really added up. The kid had it easy because the dog was trained to poop in one small area of the yard. It was about a 8 ft by 12 ft area.
Biodegradable bags. I cant imagine our council landfill would allow bagged dog poop because no oxegen means it turns gasses to methane. You can hot compost the dog poop.
I worked for a company called Doo Doo Squad located in Elk Grove California. It's not all as it cooks up to be. There is lots of driving involved which equals maintenance on the vehicle. I recommend using the Toyota Prius. It will save on gas by switching to electric. I used to service 30 to 40 houses a day. It might seem easy but it's not. Especially on hot summer days and rainy days.
It’s all about route density and proper route management. A Prius isn’t a good choice though, the back of the pickup will be full by days end, you gonna drive around with 20 large bags of dog $hit in the back seat on a hot summers day? It would be impossible to keep employees.
It doesn't necessarily seem easy. Except for the guy running the operation who barely actually works like his employees do. He said he could leave town for 6 months and it would still operate without him.
Lol! Imagine driving around in a prius with a bunch of dog poop in the trunk. - Think about what the trunk would look and smell like after a week, let alone a year.
@jazzyg530 think of the work and time invested into building it up to this point. Now he gives people jobs. Take that 6 month vacation if need be. He earned it.
This is a great example of how we are al literally surrounded by opportunity all of the time. Often once you have your first success you look at the world differently and you realize that everyday, all of the time you are literally wading waist deep through opportunities. Or in this case that could be waste deep lol Open your eyes and be curious and you will find you are surrounded constantly with great options.
Staying curious and open-minded really is the key to uncovering those hidden possibilities, even if sometimes you have to wade through the “waste” to find them!
Great question! Many companies have designated waste disposal processes, often taking it to local landfills or composting facilities. Some might even explore environmentally friendly options, like converting it into fertilizer.
WOW!!!!...I have been rattling my brains as of late as I've been wanting to start my own business too. I am based in the UK and basically doing the research if this kind of business is doable here. Thank you UPFLIP for this wonderful inspiration and insight into the possibility of being entrepreneur. I'll let you know how it goes.
@UpFlip 45 minutes - questions... how do they dispose of all the dog poop? Its one thing for individual households to put a bag in with the garbage. But en mass, large quantities of dog poop in the same place... does that change methods of disposal? Regulations? Anything? Or just toss it all into a giant dumpster?
Is there any type of special medical coverage for the age old "pooper scooper's wrist" injury? Any studies being done to help all of these injured scooper vets?
From an exemplary entrepreneur Mr. Will. “If you’re all by yourself you don’t really have a lot of options.” Facts blessings to you your family and company
So big question I have, what do they do with the poop after? Just put in a giant garbage can for trash to pick up? But it seems like it would really smell after a few days.
Agreed, very good question as I'm guessing this would be a large expense. I'm in the UK and finding it hard to find any info on bio waste disposal part from expensive incinerator services.
I have been doing side hustles like this for thirty years. I have been full time in business and part time. Washing windows is another great cheap business. But this is one that is in high demand and no one does it
I work for a company that does the same thing, yes there's so many people who wpuld love someone to pick up after their dog, very easy job tbh if you love dogs
That sounds like a good plan, because I certainly wouldn’t pay more than MAYBE $10 a week for this service. I just can’t justify this cost when I could pay a kid in the neighborhood like $5-$10 a week, lol! Although, I’m not hating on this business idea. People are busy and it takes time to keep your yard picked up. I could see my parents paying for this service. Anyone with money that values their time more than their money would be interested, I’m sure!

And it is true that most of the poverty in this country is in the rural areas that have been long since neglected by the politicians and government but you can't really tell me that you've tried to enjoy nature and there was no good feeling that comes from that.
Nature doesn't cost money and that's where the real beauty in the world is don't let people convince you into thinking that if you don't pay them for a certain service you can't enjoy your day.
I have two dogs, one small and one large. You cant even skip a day without mine-sweeping or there will be poop tracked into the house. I cant imagine someone waiting a full month.
Great question! Many companies have designated waste disposal processes, often taking it to local landfills or composting facilities. Some might even explore environmentally friendly options, like converting it into fertilizer.
When I clean someone’s house I take the garbage out of their bins inside and I put it in the trash dumpster outside their house. To expect me to take all of their garbage home as part of my service would be insane. It would just need to be stated prior that the poop would go into their garbage dumpster. Period. The poop would never go with you.
I wish it was more common to disclose if numbers are profit or revenue. I was taking home 40k per month after taxes as a 25% owner of my 5 retail stores. In 2017. People say $200,000 per month. We were crushing those numbers as far as revenue. All nunbers are good. I just wish there was morr clarity.
$110 per month seems steep, i guess for upper middle class / wealthy people, with multiple dogs, it could be worth it. Why wouldnt conventional cleaners or garden maintenance services be better? Struggling to see the gap here. Love the business though, id really enjoy telling people i pick up dog shit for a job, giving them some time to judge me, and then follow up by saying i make 2.4mill per year.
I've hired Scoop Troop for over 2 years to take care of my yard. I love having one less thing to worry about! Levi was the one that did my first visit. My only complaint is the new name - Swoop Scoop is a lot harder to pronounce 😆
@@Scoop-Start Dang. That's really good. Are you based in a bigger city? I am in the midwest, so I'm not sure if companies here could charge very much. I think, if they could average $60/month per account, then it could work as long as there was not too much overhead. Cheers.
@@Scoop-Start I would be curious if similar companies can charge that much where I live. The incomes are much lower here. But that's really good if you can charge that much. Thanks for the information. It's very interesting. Cheers.
I have a poop scooping business, you would be surprised how many low income families pay for this. Yes, it's more wealthy homes, but about 40% of my clients are low income.
The issue for me would be transferring diseases from one yard to the next. If someone has a sick pet, with parasites or other. If the tools are not disinfected properly from yard to yard. You’re just transferring illnesses. Not all poop comes right out of the grass. Try picking up peanut butter out of a carpet with a pooper scooper.
There will always be people willing to pay for a service that they just don't want to do themselves. I bet they don't walk their dogs either so this could easily be a 2 person business. 1 x scooping & 1 x walking. Don't forget the dog food delivery option. You'll need refrigeration for the meat loaf and room for bags or barrels of dry food. A dog food manufacturer will pay well to have a vehicle with their branding visiting dog owners all day. You could negotiate a supply deal where you can make big retail margin on selling their product. Expand the business web site to sell additional dog related products. Then there's the vet referrals earning a kickback that could also be expanded to include dog transport. Now scoop that poop!
After watching this video, extremely amount of good information, so why did you leave out disposal routine, that was never talked about. The 5 W’s of what does He do with the poop at the end of the day. For a big business thats easy, but starting out, what did he do, just throw it in with his regular trash pick up. You almost have to have a truck and a separate large Trash can just to start this type of job. You make it sound so easy. I’m sure for a start up job, you have to work your keyster off to learn beginning lessons of the job.
Some questions I would ask first exactly where and how does he dispose of all of the dog waste he collects? Does he have a specific cost associated with that? And, what exactly is the chemical he’s using for disinfectant?
If you were to start a landscaping (basic mowing + wacking) along with this service, could you take say all your doo and your grass clippings to the local landfill? is it all considered landfill waste? or would you have to go to separate locations?
That's a great question! Disposal rules vary by location, but many landfills accept both yard waste and animal waste, though some may require them to be separated. It’s worth checking with your local landfill to see if they have special guidelines or composting programs for organic materials.
Exactly he just can’t help his urge to point out that it’s all about “poop” not very professional but it is what it is. I’ve watched a lot of these over the years and realized he just has a quirky personality 😂
I didn’t get to finish the video, but I was hoping to see where all the poop goes and if that’s something that can be sold to companies who deal with compost and mulch, or something along those lines.
Thanks again for such a great interview. Daughter has been asking how can she make extra money, after listening it gave me a great idea we live in a subdivision which has 540 homes, I’m thinking of all those golden “nuggets” she could be earning cash on. Thank you guys again, keep up the hard work, really appreciate your content!
That's wonderful to hear! With 540 homes in your subdivision, there are definitely plenty of opportunities to explore. Wishing her the best of luck in her new venture-exciting times ahead!
I'd definitely have that bag storage box at dog parks and beaches. Everyone will use it and free advertising apart from paying for bag's and refilling time.
Great video, lots of good questions and answers, which simplifies an already simple business even more. This business owner really knows his stuff. I wish I had an idea like this - very straightforward, easy to start, easy to scale, risk-free, and not time-consuming. That's how you create a comfortable, quality life for your family while also helping others solve a problem.
I work for a trash valet company. Similar systems. Your start-up is much cheaper. I wouldnt mind starting in Phx lol we have 33-36% labor margin. We implemented similar procedures.
There’s a lady who’s millionaire from putting pumpkins on people’s porch one season per year. We’re really only limited by our imagination and willingness to see what people need.
Check out the UpFlip Academy to see how Will operates this biz! You’ll not only get access to the CRM he uses but also everything else they rely on to run the business. 🙌
I have to think this is best to keep running between either the sole owner doing the work and running the business, or partners etc. keeping good employees would be difficult, unless you pay them extremely well, offer sick days and benefits, work vehicles and cell phones. I’ve found when a job is sorta lacklustre and is difficult to have pride in employees need to be compensated for that in order to stick around.
That's a valid point! However, services that offer convenience and address essential needs often find ways to adapt and survive even in tough times. It’ll be interesting to see how this business model evolves!
Actually he could even use the poop he scoops as an ORGANIC gopher detourant . I discovered purely by accident that if I take all the dog poop i collected in a bucket and stuffed it teall tight down gopher and vole holes The little critters will not dig there again They will dig a new tunnel close to the poopy one and you pack that one next and in no time at all eventually YOU WILL HAVE A GOPHER FREE YARD .youre welcome 🙂

Client density definitely plays a huge role, and it's true that optimizing routes can be tricky without sacrificing quality or safety.
honestly best video in a while, long time fan need these random, odd, an whacky businesses
Glad you enjoyed it! It's always fun to explore unique and unconventional business ideas. Stay tuned for more intriguing content like this! 😉
My mom used to pay the kid next door to clean up her 125 lb labs poop. She paid per pile and it really added up. The kid had it easy because the dog was trained to poop in one small area of the yard. It was about a 8 ft by 12 ft area.
I line the scooper and the bucket with a trash bag - easier cleanup. Maybe more expensive but saves time.
I do the bucket and liner method as well. No way am I carrying that heavy dust pan full of poop across an acre yard.
Biodegradable bags. I cant imagine our council landfill would allow bagged dog poop because no oxegen means it turns gasses to methane. You can hot compost the dog poop.
@AHD2105 Landfills don't care honestly, and the bags are not air tight. Plus once the truck smash it with the rest of the garbage it just rips open.
@mayhem4masses363 😬 oh ok.
Especially on hot summer days and rainy days.
but if the numbers from the video are real then you would´ve made 20k with 40 houses a day if it wasnt for a company.
I started a poop scooping business in my hometown. Makes 6 figures on auto pilot.

This is a great example of how we are al literally surrounded by opportunity all of the time.
Often once you have your first success you look at the world differently and you realize that everyday, all of the time you are literally wading waist deep through opportunities. Or in this case that could be waste deep lol
Open your eyes and be curious and you will find you are surrounded constantly with great options.
Staying curious and open-minded really is the key to uncovering those hidden possibilities, even if sometimes you have to wade through the “waste” to find them!
What's the cost of deposing pet waste? Does local trash collection just pick it up at their business or is it placed in the clients trash can?
Great question! Many companies have designated waste disposal processes, often taking it to local landfills or composting facilities. Some might even explore environmentally friendly options, like converting it into fertilizer.
WOW!!!!...I have been rattling my brains as of late as I've been wanting to start my own business too. I am based in the UK and basically doing the research if this kind of business is doable here. Thank you UPFLIP for this wonderful inspiration and insight into the possibility of being entrepreneur. I'll let you know how it goes.
@UpFlip
45 minutes - questions... how do they dispose of all the dog poop? Its one thing for individual households to put a bag in with the garbage.
But en mass, large quantities of dog poop in the same place... does that change methods of disposal?
Regulations? Anything?
Or just toss it all into a giant dumpster?
eat
Walmart's dumpster at 3am I guess... Nobody seems to know the answer
If they dump it in a container with black soldier flies, it would turn into compost.
Local Landfill would work. Would have to figure that in pricing
Is there any type of special medical coverage for the age old "pooper scooper's wrist" injury? Any studies being done to help all of these injured scooper vets?
I've seen these trucks all around my hometown of Spokane and CDA and wondered if they actually made enough money. I guess they do!
Oh, they definitely do more than well! 💪
From an exemplary entrepreneur Mr. Will. “If you’re all by yourself you don’t really have a lot of options.”
Facts blessings to you your family and company
So big question I have, what do they do with the poop after? Just put in a giant garbage can for trash to pick up? But it seems like it would really smell after a few days.
Agreed, very good question as I'm guessing this would be a large expense. I'm in the UK and finding it hard to find any info on bio waste disposal part from expensive incinerator services.
i also want to know that :D
In Texas you can just throw it in the burn pile.
Just throw it in the client's trash bin.
I have been doing side hustles like this for thirty years. I have been full time in business and part time. Washing windows is another great cheap business. But this is one that is in high demand and no one does it
Thanks to UA-cam that recommend me ur channel.. Valuable Content. ❤.. Love from India
I work for a company that does the same thing, yes there's so many people who wpuld love someone to pick up after their dog, very easy job tbh if you love dogs
If I was to do this, I would club in all the basic home services. Include mosquito spraying, taking out the trash to the curb, etc
That sounds like a solid plan! 👌
😂😂😂 Neighborhood kid will want more than $5-$10 to clean the 💩💩💩 Kids aren't stupid because they'll Google that
No kids these days would work for $5 a week bud. lol your stuck in the 80’’s and 90’s still
@SecondMileDIY what kid will do this for 5 or 10 bucks 😂😂😂 they couldn't buy shit with that.

Every place is nice if you have money. No place is nice if you don't.
That's an insightful take! We appreciate your thoughts on this.
I don't appreciate your thoughts on this that's the most small-minded close-minded dumb shat anybody could ever say. Now if we're talking about homeless in San Francisco I agree with you.
@madiezancanellatl9205
I disagree. It doesn't take money to take care of what a person has earned.
I have two dogs, one small and one large. You cant even skip a day without mine-sweeping or there will be poop tracked into the house. I cant imagine someone waiting a full month.
Thats what I was wondering, even a week. I guess either they dont go outside or they have a dog run area.
Feed your dog's better food and they will poop less.
@dl4087 Thats like humans. We dont poop much on carnivor.
@@AHD2105 exactly!
28:35 per week not per month
Avg appointment is $20 x 30 yards x 5 days/week = $3,000
Okay. Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking Jesus. That's only five dollars a yard. 😬
There is a great King of the Hill aepisode about this exact business. Bobby’s new mentor does the same thing and uses an ATV to get around
Only one ? Where can you dispose of bags of dog waste and what does that cost to get rid of?
Great question! Many companies have designated waste disposal processes, often taking it to local landfills or composting facilities. Some might even explore environmentally friendly options, like converting it into fertilizer.
My neighbor asked me to do this for her dogs. Great business. I might have to try this around my area
What area do you live in?
Did the dog thing, made flyers, advertised, website, cards etc you name it did it all. Didn't get one client.
Did you go out face to face meeting people?
@OhPleasures yup
Services like this are perfect for animal owners who are elderly or have mobility issues, etc.
What about Mean Dangerous Dogs? I would think that would be a problem too
He def made a great point that if you can’t make money doing/starting this line of business, then maybe starting a business isn’t for you.
Jokes on them. This guy is racking it in
I understand all of what they're saying, no problem, though Where do they Dispose of All that Poo
Quick question....where does all the poop you pick up go? How do you dispose of it?
Office space is so not necessary but kudos cause this is a fabulous business move
How does this work in the winter months when there is packed snow and poo?
I've hired Scoop Troop for over 2 years to take care of my yard. I love having one less thing to worry about! Levi was the one that did my first visit.
My only complaint is the new name - Swoop Scoop is a lot harder to pronounce 😆
Thanks for representing our fellow scoopers🥳🥳🥳. We love this industry 🐶💩💪🏻
This industry is amazing!! 🐶
Why do they need the big trucks and office space? Also, what do they do in winter?
Curious about two things:
1. What do they pay their employees?
2. Any issues with aggressive dogs and how to deal with it?
Cheers.
We typically pay pooper scoopers between $20-$23/Hour with benefits and let them take a truck home.
@@Scoop-Start Dang. That's really good. Are you based in a bigger city? I am in the midwest, so I'm not sure if companies here could charge very much. I think, if they could average $60/month per account, then it could work as long as there was not too much overhead. Cheers.
@NSAKEY our main location is in Spokane, WA, and Northern Idaho. Not a huge area.
The absolute lowest I would recommend charging is 80-85/month.
@@Scoop-Start I would be curious if similar companies can charge that much where I live. The incomes are much lower here.
But that's really good if you can charge that much.
Thanks for the information. It's very interesting. Cheers.
@NSAKEY just do a Google search for the service in your area and you should be able to see what people are charging.
This man has great answers with every question. Great advice
What do you do about aggressive dogs??
It’s fine and dandy if you do it within your own neighborhood like maybe 5 blocks out from each end of where you live cuz gas ain’t cheap
Location is also important. Notice where this business is. Wealthy area.
Lots of wealthy areas in this country.
Yes, there is, and it's an easier time if you start a business in a wealthy area. Money buys convience. Most services are exactly that "convience".
Try picking up peanut butter out of a carpet with a pooper scooper.
some people have freeze spray for the runny stuff
2:28
It's runny because of the kibble poison people feed their dogs. Feed raw meat and the poo is 1/3 the size and never runny.
Putting pooper scoopers on the map! Good job Will!!
Will is really shining a spotlight on this essential service. 🐾
this has been in my recommended feed for 2 weeks, youre doing great with the algorithm
People caught onto this a long time ago. In this economy not nearly as many people are interested in this.
Never heard of this to be honest, plenty of dog walkers and sitters in my area but have never seen someone offer to pick up poop
What if you get soft watery ones?
I would be wearing those boot the concrete guys wears.
Use it as a salad dressing!
@@maddog3768😂
You need a can of Vapoo-rize....
I would use disposable shoe cover’s!
Smart idea! Disposable shoe covers would definitely help keep things clean while doing the job.
More over head and waste. The disinfectant is more cost efficient and no waste.
Time is money with chances of missing spots also the pull over covers 💯 block dog shhhhh when you are bound to step in a pile 😂😂😂
Some questions I would ask first exactly where and how does he dispose of all of the dog waste he collects? Does he have a specific cost associated with that? And, what exactly is the chemical he’s using for disinfectant?
You can use bleach
Where do you dispose of the waste?
It’s incredible! If you have an idea or a passion you can easily make it into a business.
That's putting all your lifelong skills to work. I bet your dad is proud of you.
The host is having a hard time not clowning the entire episode, so funny.
Exactly he just can’t help his urge to point out that it’s all about “poop” not very professional but it is what it is. I’ve watched a lot of these over the years and realized he just has a quirky personality 😂
Right... Paul's just a bit quirky! Trust us, he had a blast! It was a fun episode. 🙌
You would need about 80 weekly customers to make $200k a year but that’s still pretty damn good. That’s at the $110 monthly rate
I didn’t get to finish the video, but I was hoping to see where all the poop goes and if that’s something that can be sold to companies who deal with compost and mulch, or something along those lines.
Companies are looking for sustainable sources of organic material, so there might be potential there!
Im highly considering this!! But I only want it to be myself.

This dude had to be a big fan of the episode of King of The Hill when Bobby met that self made millionaire who ran a pooper scooper business
Maybe! It's amazing how those creative ideas from shows can turn into real-life success stories. 😉
Leveraging tech and clearly has a sales background. If you know sales you can build anything. Price doesn’t include sales tools etc
This is cool but these type of business will be the first one people cut out when the recession hits.
That's a valid point! However, services that offer convenience and address essential needs often find ways to adapt and survive even in tough times. It’ll be interesting to see how this business model evolves!
