Man! I sure wish I’d seen your video before I seasoned mine. I didn’t wait 15 minutes in between seasonings. Should I do it again? I haven’t cooked on it yet other than onions that Blackstone Betty recommended to do right after seasoning.
You should be ok. Run it really hot for a little while to harden what you’ve already done. Then I would just do 2 or 3 layers on top the way we do it in the video here.
Try unscrewing and then reattaching the regulator. Could be a bad connection. Buzzing can be normal on newly filled tanks. A rushing or whooshing sound is bad as this can mean you have a leak.
Ok, it arrived today, finished putting it together and just did 5 rounds of seasoning with the Blackstone product. Just waiting for it to cool down, then goes the silicone protector, lid and soft cover. Looking forward to cooking up a storm in a few days. Thanks for putting this video out there.

We just purchased the PB 850 and see no direction to access the probe to my phone. (not too tec savy) Do we just download any app for the thermometer? Do you have a favorite app that you use or is there a PB app for the thermometer?
Cool - thanks! By the way, what kind of oil did you use near the end after you cooked on it? Looked like an olive oil bottle (but could have been avocado or grapeseed oil)?
@@madbackyard By the way, was that some kind of plug at the back of the grill to keep the oil from draining into the cup holder when seasoning the grill? Reason being, when I put my first tablespoons of Blackstone oil on the grill it immediately melted and went down the drain. Freaked me out! Talk about getting schooled. 😅
Just finished seasoning my 28” Blackstone. Thanks Mad Backyard. Nicely produced instructional video. I think my griddle seasoned very nicely. Off to the store for cheesesteak fixins!
For the record you can totally use soapy water to clean your cast irons, especially if you're going to immediately season again. Soap is good at cutting through grease, but it'll take some seriously strong soap plus elbow grease to cut through layers of polymerized oils.
I’ve been watching videos like this for the last 2 hours or so. Yours is by far the most thorough. Thank you!!
Glad it helped, thanks!!
I love videos like this that get straight to it and do exactly what the title says and nothing else!
👏👏👏
Thanks for watching!
Better seasoning video than the Blackstone official ones! Thanks!
Wow, thank you! Glad it was helpful!
@@suzannemcelhaney4835 It sure was! Also, he will answer your questions!

@@madbackyard ok so I’m clear…when you say run it hot for a little while…maybe 10 minutes? Then do the seasoning process like you did
@@madbackyard Thanks. Should I do the onion part again as well?
It’s not cast iron…… cold rolled steel
I’m about to season mine. I’m excited n sooooooo nervous lol 😂
Thanks for watching Jesse!
Same here!!! I'll do it today, how did it go???
Good and helpful video, but Blackstones are not cast iron. They are rolled carbon steel.
Why do I hear a buzzing noise from my regulator?
Try unscrewing and then reattaching the regulator. Could be a bad connection. Buzzing can be normal on newly filled tanks. A rushing or whooshing sound is bad as this can mean you have a leak.
I used their seasoning on mine, once I was out I swapped to crisco. Put a light coat after turning off and it’s started cooling. It works great
Yes you can really use any oil you want once it’s fully seasoned.
I have a feeling the blackstone oil is pretty much crisco anyways

Right on! Hopefully you got better weather than the 100 degree day I did it!! 😆
@@madbackyard Yikes, temperatures that high is the only thing that will keep me from firing that bad boy up.
Excellent tutorial made it ezy..My daughtera got me one for fathers day.. a total upgrade and absolutely love it..
What a great present! Glad the video was helpful, thanks for watching!
The silicone griddle mat cover with the edges comes in 28 inches but my Blackstone is 30 inches. Are there any silicone griddles for 30 inches?
Very helpful thanks!
Thank you so much. Its a process i was questioning myself
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
I only subscribed to your channel because of your recipes. I want to see a salmon recipe on your smoker if you can in a future video please?

It was 28 inches or 36 inches.
Love Mad Backyard!!! You've helped improve my home cooked meals! Appreciate you, sir 🙏

I think it was grapeseed oil. Thanks for watching!

No, no plug back there. Yeah I've done that before when not paying attention and putting it to close to the grease catch!
Excellent tutorial and tips for someone new to using a Blackstone.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. I was considering buying one but after further review, I think I'll pass.
Thanks for watching! But why do you say that?
youre missing out big time
Dude doesn’t t wanna put in the work.
Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Use a torch to get the edges.
Ha, not necessary unless you just want an excuse to have fun with a torch. They will even out after only a couple of cooks.
This was a great video! Thanks man!
Thank you!🙏
What size propane tank?
Just a standard 20 lb propane tank like you would use for a gas grill.
Best griddle video, thanks!
Glad you liked it, thanks!
Wow, thank you so much for this great video. I feel like I’m qualified to own one of these now.
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!

Glad it was helpful! Cheesesteak sounds like a great way to break it in! 👍
Currently doing mine lol
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!! 🙏
Thanks for your information. Good job
Thank you very much great lesson
Thanks!
Mine clumped up ….. im tossing mine in the dumpster!!!
Why can’t I use olive oil?
You can if you want to. I would suggest regular olive oil since it has a higher smoke point than extra virgin.
@@madbackyard Way cool! Thanks for the feedback. I seasoned mine today with avocado oil, and at that, 5 times. I have a real nice season on it
Awesome!
Does avocado oil work also?
@@Jiamian206just did mine 7 times with avocado oil, it’s so amazing! Highly recommend!
Cook 2 lbs of bacon, done all I’ve ever done, works perfectly fine. All of those extra steps are a waste of time.
Glad it worked for you. Blackstone specifically says not to do it so I'm going with the plant oils to start as they recommend.
@@madbackyard I get it, but they are also in business to sell their product.
So you put the Simone cover on while the grill is hot?
For the record you can totally use soapy water to clean your cast irons, especially if you're going to immediately season again. Soap is good at cutting through grease, but it'll take some seriously strong soap plus elbow grease to cut through layers of polymerized oils.
Up to you. It says all over the Blackstone manual instructions not to do it which is why I made the point to say so.
There are better alternatives. Nobody wants to cook outdoors while being cooked by the Sun.
Why did u even watch this?
Why not use the "other alternatives" then, why do you have to post it?
