6496chase hello, thank you so much for watching! I have done both - I try to ensure I have a thin layer of oil left on the griddle top to help preserve/keep it from rusting. 🤙🤙
I just get it hot and de-glaze it with water. I might use wine or vinegar if it's stubborn. Wipe it down with a wet paper towel and spray on olive oil after it dries and cools down a little. It's too easy.
I just got a 36" Blackstone and a 30" pro series steelmade griddle. I asked in a fb group if anyone used rags instead of paper towels. I went through 2 rolls in just a couple days. 😬 Gonna get expensive. Most comments were about grease in washing machine. I thought it would be common sense you'd rinse them first. I have been watching cleaning videos for a while and yours is first to mention rags!! Thank you for showing a different option.
Oh awesome, we are so happy this video helps! While ultimately we went back to paper towels, for sure there are many who prefer the rags, and like you said, we rinse them before washing and it works great!! Take care fam and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
Hey Adam, I am a first time Blackstone owner and this is a GREAT video for a lot of us and I really appreciate you putting this out there. I sorta had an idea of what to do since I cook on castiron but this was very reassuring of the process and THANKS again!! Love your guy's videos, Keep On Cookin'!
I seasoned my Griddle using Olive Oil. After the initial "seasoning of the griddle," I mostly use "Cooking Spray" (like Pam) with either Olive Oil or Canola Oil. I fire up the burners and spray a light coat of cooking spray on it, and when the griddle is good and hot, I turn down the burners and start cooking. Rather than turning the burners off, then back on to clean the griddle... when I'm done cooking, I turn off the burners, and immediately begin the cleaning process while the griddle is still hot. 1) If there is any stuck on food on the griddle, I squirt water on it, and wait about 1 minute for the water to boil off and loosen the stuck on food. If there's nothing "stuck on" the griddle, I don't even use the water. I just used the scraper. 2) Then I use the metal scraper and scrape the griddle off into the grease trap. 3) Then I take a clean and dry, wad of paper towels, and wipe it down. Voila! All done! And it's ready for the next cooking excursion. Smile! BTW... I have the same griddle as in the video.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your process. The one thing we love is the many ways the process can be done with success. Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙
I am new to using a flattop griddle, just got mine yesterday! I purchased an inexpensive package of 100% cotton cloths from the dollar store, I washed and dried them without using any sort of fabric softener. I put them in a plastic baggie and marked on the outside what it is so no one else uses them for other purposes. I decided I would place the oiled cloth in another plastic baggie and placed it in the freezer, that will keep it from getting soiled and keep it from getting rancid (fresh). I'll use it as many times as I can before I'll toss it and get out another.

I am huge in cast iron so I clean my black stones the same way. I do have a rag that I leave in a red solo cup with a mix of olive oil and vegetable oil. Just a little oil in the bottom and take and wipe the grill down when your done cleaning. Builds a great layer.
Perfect, yes! The layer of oil after cleaning is key! We’ve had mass rainstorms, gone out and had a small puddle on the griddle - we’ve dried it up and wiped it down, applied more oil without issues. It’s perfect! Thank you so much for watching!🤙🤙

Thank you so much man! It’s funny, right now my griddle is looking a little rough because we have been doing so many cooks, and I was starting to freak out. I made amazing chicken cheesesteaks with bacon yesterday on it, and nothing stuck - it looks a bit rough, but the food tastes the same! 😄😄. Take care!

I learned a lot and now all I have to do is decide which one to go get. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and time.
Thank you so much for watching! We did a ton of research before our first griddle too! It’s a bit of a learning curve, but not much! The cold-rolled steel takes a bit more maintenance like cast iron - with cleaning and seasoning, but it’s fun process! If you are looking for a no-fuss option, we just started working with the new Pit Boss griddles that are nonstick - it’s different it there isn’t a seasoning process and the cleanup is a breeze! That said, we really love both!
Great video I will be cleaning mine today what I really like is you saying it doesn't have to be perfect it's a griddle cook on it and have fun keep the videos coming

If i used Flax oil to sesion my griddle, can i use other oil like canola when i cook and put on the grilldle after i clean it or do i have to stick with Flax Thank you
Thank you so mucin for watching! We only use flax seed oil to season (we’ve also used canola, vegetable as well). We then use other cooking oils for the cooks, never flax seed to cook with. Good luck fam!

Just got my scraper this morning for Christmas I'm loving my griddle thanks for the useful tips. I was using a paper towels I will be switching to a kitchen cloth rag.
Thank you so much for watching! Yes, love the scraper! Also, I’ve gone back and forth, and now use paper towels more. At first they left so much lint, but I’ve gotten it to where I can wipe down without the extra lint. Towels are awesome too! Merry Christmas!🤙🔥

I just ordered my Blackstone griddle a couple days ago, waiting patiently, watching videos. I noticed we have the same taste. I have the same Chargriller grill you have in the background 😅
Haha!! That’s awesome!! Welp, sadly, we’ve cooked so much on the griddle, I passed the griddle on to a family member.😔😜🤣. We love the Blackstone and know you will too!! We are excited for you man, let us know if you have questions! GRIDDLE W!🤙🤙🔥🔥
Thanks for the video brother. I just used my griddle for the first time. I didn't do the water because I just made a big steak. Didn't have much food left. I scraped it, wiped it, and oiled it. Ready for next time. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for watching and congratulations on the new griddle!! For sure, you will find a system that works best for you - it’s really simple and something I actually enjoy doing. Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙
That's awesome! I had mine too hot and burned my hand from the steam. Just got the 28" with air fryer from my wife and had no idea what I was doing until watching you guys. Love the videos! Keep them coming!
Keep doing what you're doing. I tried the blue shop towels on my cast iron, and it was actually way more fibrous than normal paper towels. Thanks for the info!
Good call! I mentioned them because so many claim they are better - I even had a good brand of the white ones and had fibers all over! I prefer the rag-n-rinse.😜. Thanks so much for watching and commenting man!🤙
I appreciate the instructions in a positive tone. I joined a Facebook group to learn how to use it and some of the comments to people learning are brutal.
@@dennisd4027 I heard they melt easily and using the he heat helps clean it so there’s no way around it just don’t use them stick with either paper towel or cotton rag/cloth
Used my son's griddle yesterday. He left it a mess before I used it. It had rust and old food. It made me sick to see, but I cleaned it up and seasoned it. I made my first shot at smash burgers, turned out great. I did clean up afterwards so it will be ready to use again. Thinking about steak burgers.
Great video, Adam! I've been looking around for cleaning/seasoning videos and can't understand why I didn't turn to you in the first place! Live and learn!
Thank you so much for watching fam! This is the scraper that came in kit Blackstone 5 piece griddle kit - it can be found at Walmart and Lowe’s, and we have a link to it on Amazon in the video description - hope the helps!🤙🤙🔥🔥
Yes, been trying to, although I find myself using paper towels more often - with the surface a bit better now I find they don’t leave lint behind. I still have the rags as well though. Take care!🤙🤙
Love your videos! Question: I use paper towels but they never come clean. It’s always black no matter how many times I use water/scrape etc. I coat with oil after cleaning but my towels are never clean. Is that normal?
Hey! Thank you so much for watching! Yes! It’s totally normal and used to drive me crazy! Here’s what I do. After it’s all cleaned up, I lay oil down and wipe it up. If it’s dirty, I do it again with the oil. I have found oil works really well to pull up the black muck. I repeat this until the paper towel is almost clear. Let me know if this works for you!! (I had Brett do this with his as well, and it was awesome). Take care!!
@@waltwins I always have this problem and it drives me crazy! It's never clear on my rag and I end up scraping it like crazy and re season every time.... Am I doing it wrong? Should I just wait til Its cooled down and then just add oil and wipe all the gunk off? Do I heat that oil back up to re season ? Sorry I'm just trying to get this right lol
I clean my griddle the same way you do , water a scrapping tool and a rag works for me then a nice coat of oil and it’s ready to cook on the next morning for breakfast
Hey Adam...it was nice seeing you "cleaning up!" You clean up nice :) Seems pretty easy. That is what I like. A lot easier then cleaning up a grill. I see you decided not to go LIVE tonight? Kind of use to that now :) Hope all is well. When is school done for you this year? Zack is almost done and is counting down the days! Have a great night and God bless!
Thank you so much for watching! Much of the original seasoning was flaming off - we cook on this several times a week. I have been trying to be more diligent and apply oil to burn off from time-to-time, it if it gets too rough, I have reseasoned it (something Blackstone recommends). Hope this helps!
Rookie question. When cleaning the top with the paper towels, do you continue to do so until the paper towels no longer have black grease on them? I feel like I’d go through an entire roll of towels. Made scrambled eggs this morning and let’s just say they weren’t yellow. 😂. Would love to know when you can tell it’s clean and ready for the coat of oil before closing shop for the night. Thank you and great videos!!
Haha! We don’t!😜. It gets hot for sure - we get soaked to the bone! We just keep in mind that the delicious food is worth the sweat - thanks so much for watching man!!🤙🤙
Glad I'm not the only who's soaked in sweat when dinner is ready. I usually have to take a few minutes to cool off before I can sit down and eat, after using the griddle.
When I worked at McDonald's many moons ago, we used ice then a heavy scraper, then pickle juice and wire brush.then a rag, then a little smear of oil. Came out looking brand new and shiny. Now days they microwave and put a cold slice of cheese on it so there is no need.
Thank you so much for watching! Yes, on a stainless steel griddle, for sure. But on the cold rolled steel, this helps prevent rusting while keeping the nonstick layer. Take care!🤙🤙
Thank you for making this video I just finished seasoning my grill and right before cook needed to know how to clean it and this is the only video that I was able to find.
For sure! People have asked about why it looks this way - the stainless steel care is much more rigorous - we love the Blackstone for sure!🔥🔥. Thank you so much for watching!
Well done Adam. Great minds do think alike. I have a lot of the same questions and put my video up this morning lol. We pretty much do exactly the same thing! Thanks for all your great content. When is the good looking one coming back?
I just bought my First Flat Top Griddle Last week and this is my first time using it. I'm not crazy how my Seasoning turned out but repetition will get better. After eating I was attempting to do my first cleaning, but the 3 rd burner didn't light, & I had a concern about That. But I plan on using this Bad Boy for Years to Come!
That’s awesome! We hope the burners even out - my father-in-law has the 30” culinary from Lowe’s, and it takes a few tries to get his last burner to ignite - but he loves it! Hope it give you years of excellent food and memories fam! GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙

Thanks for video just fired up the grill first time to cook. Did what you did in this video to clean. Now for the next time i use which will probably be sunday should i coat the whole thing with oil 3-4 times like i initial start up or just once and cook? Thanks
Thank you so much for watching and congratulations on the new Blackstone! You only need to do the initial season one time at first, and then maybe down the road when the surface gets a little rough. After cleaning and the griddle cools, wipe a thin layer of oil over the surface to help prevent rusting. Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
Great question! I used Canola, but I’ve also used thin coats of Olive Oil and even vegetable oil. For cooking, I prefer avocado, vegetable, or olive oil.
Thank you for posting this. I have been unsure of how to clean my Blackstone. Is the use of olive oil not recommended to oil the top? I scrape the top, use some water, then use the olive oil. But when I open it for next use, the top has rust spots.... help!!!
Thank you for watching and we’re happy this helped! Most likely you don’t have rust spots, but the oil that was used for the last cook is rust colored. If you lay oil on it and wipe and it’s not the rust color, you are good to go!
Totally agree! "No mistakes. Just happy accidents. If you make a mistake, make it a bird." The thing practically cleans itself, just like a cast iron frying pan. Doesn't care what kind of oil (I used avocado last night and canola this morning). Water to loosen the gunk. Reseason with a little oil. Ready to go next time! Grill on!
Ty! I was having issues with mine getting rust spots and having to scrap and reseason once a week. Seems I wasn't wiping the water off good enough and therefore, I wasn't getting the oil on the griddle. When I worked as a bartender I hated cleaning the stainless flattop, It's kind of silly but I feel like I take pride in cleaning my Blackstone!
Oh yes!! So happy this helped!! We totally get it - for sure I love how quick and easy the cleanup is, and the little tips you learn along the way can make a big difference! Take care fam and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
Have watched a couple of You or the other half’s videos. Great job. Just got mine so I got a lot to learn but looking forward to it and will watch more.
I got a nice tip and it worked for me tonight. I had plopped fajita chicken on my griddle but I forgot to put oil down first so it stuck. Well, a friend of mine said to use vodka as the alcohol not only helps get off stuck on food, it will also help sanitize the griddle. It worked beautifully. Don't use a good vodka, get the cheapest stuff you can find he said.
I have your set up too same grill and blacktop ..... Also new sub ...... I clean my cast iron griddle the same way and will use the technic on my Blackstone

Thank you so much for watching and Congratulations on the new Blackstone! That is so exciting!! We have not used the Blackstone seasoning and conditioner, but hear it works excellent! Do not season griddle with bacon. It contains a lot of salt and is not a good as it will cause some bad rusting.
First time Blackstone user and your videos have eased my nerves using it. The videos are very well done!
Oh wow, we’re so happy they help! Congratulations on the new Blackstone fam! Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
I just ordered my Blackstone griddle a couple days ago, waiting patiently, watching videos.
Perfect!! Sounds like you handled it just right! We appreciate you watching fam! Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
Yep my technique is I screw everything up and then the girlfriend tells me not to do it that she will do it. That's my technique
Hahaha! That’s how I got out of doing the dishes growing up...😜
that's precisely why I do the dishes and clean up the kitchen most of the time at my house, because my wife doesn't do it right. haha
Patrick94GSR lol! Welp, seems like it worked out for her!😜

Great video it was very helpful i just brought this griddle an i wasn't sure how i should clean it thanks so much enjoy your griddle...

Glad I found your channel. Hoping to get one of these for my birthday this month
Yes!! Thank you so much and we can’t wait for you to get yours!! Enjoy fam and GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙🔥🔥
Keep doing what you're doing.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting man!🤙
@@waltwins You are very welcome! Loving your videos!
Wow thanks so much! We work hard to make good content, we really appreciate the support!🤙🤙
I appreciate the instructions in a positive tone. I joined a Facebook group to learn how to use it and some of the comments to people learning are brutal.
Exactly the same way I clean my Blackstones. I use cotton towels only , too much lint from paper towels for sure ! Great how to video !
Thanks so much man, really appreciate it! I use the paper towels only for quick wipe, but yes, cotton towels only for the cleaning. 🤙🤙

@@waltwins you ever use microfiber towels for this?
@@dennisd4027 I heard they melt easily and using the he heat helps clean it so there’s no way around it just don’t use them stick with either paper towel or cotton rag/cloth
Used my son's griddle yesterday. He left it a mess before I used it. It had rust and old food. It made me sick to see, but I cleaned it up and seasoned it. I made my first shot at smash burgers, turned out great. I did clean up afterwards so it will be ready to use again. Thinking about steak burgers.
That’s awesome! He owes you big time!😂😂. Much love fam, GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
Great video, Adam! I've been looking around for cleaning/seasoning videos and can't understand why I didn't turn to you in the first place! Live and learn!
Haha!! No worries fam! Let me know if you have any questions!!🤙🤙
Thanks I just got my first 4burner black stone and your videos help sooooo much…🎉 and can’t wait till your cookbook gets here 😊
Try lemon lime gatorade on a hot griddle to degrease the surface, a little trick I learned working with Laredo taco company
Oh man, thank you so much for the tip!🤙🤙🔥🔥

Great video! Where did you get that scraper thingy?
Thank you so much for watching fam! This is the scraper that came in kit Blackstone 5 piece griddle kit - it can be found at Walmart and Lowe’s, and we have a link to it on Amazon in the video description - hope the helps!🤙🤙🔥🔥
Just tried out my new Blackstone and had new idea what to do when I was done cooking. Thank you so much for the video
Oh awesome! Hope this helped! Once you have a system, it will get better and easier. Take care!🤙🤙
I appreciate you reusing and then reusing again those kitchen rags
Yes, been trying to, although I find myself using paper towels more often - with the surface a bit better now I find they don’t leave lint behind. I still have the rags as well though. Take care!🤙🤙
Thank you for the help! We just got our Blackstone and wanted to clean it right
Oh awesome! Congratulations on the new Blackstone fam!! Thank you so much for watching! GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
Love your videos!
Perfect fam!! Thank you so mimic for watching and for chiming in! Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙🔥🔥
Hey Adam...it was nice seeing you "cleaning up!" You clean up nice :) Seems pretty easy. That is what I like. A lot easier then cleaning up a grill. I see you decided not to go LIVE tonight? Kind of use to that now :) Hope all is well. When is school done for you this year? Zack is almost done and is counting down the days! Have a great night and God bless!
Hey fam! School ends next Wednesday for us - yes, I find I actually enjoy cleaning and making this look nice almost as much as griddling!🤣🤙
I just purchased this today I really appreciate your videos cheers
Wahoo!! Congratulations on the new Blackstone, GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙🔥🔥
I never thought I'd watch a 7 min video on my least favorite thing to do... Cleaning

Thank you Sir! Just bought my 32" flat top accessory to my Camp Chef two-burner.
Oh awesome! Congratulations on the new griddle!! That is so awesome - we love griddle cooking for sure! Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
How do you know that it needs to be reseasoned?
Thank you so much for watching! Much of the original seasoning was flaming off - we cook on this several times a week. I have been trying to be more diligent and apply oil to burn off from time-to-time, it if it gets too rough, I have reseasoned it (something Blackstone recommends). Hope this helps!
@@waltwins thank you! I only ask because I'm not sure if mine needed to be reseasoned haha.
Guys. I live in Texas and one thing about having a flat top and living in Texas is the freaking heat. How do you guys cope in the sunshine state ?
Haha!
@@ScottSmithPhotos Haha! Right!? For sure getting the delicious food through sweat, sometimes blood and tears! Thanks so much for watching!
Get one of the industrial fans and use it near the grill station
Im thinking about a Blackstone grill and this helped me a lot!
Thank you so music for watching! We love griddle cooking, it’s a game-changer! 🔥💙
Thanks a bunch. Today was my first day to use my Blackstone. Your cleaning tips worked great. I really appreciate it.
Takes me back into time when I use to work at McDonald's when I was 18. Thanks for the awesome video!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Haha!! How fun! We hope it was good memories - thank you so much for watching fam!🤗🤗
Thank you for making this video I just finished seasoning my grill and right before cook needed to know how to clean it and this is the only video that I was able to find.
Of course! Thank you so much for watching and congratulations on the new griddle!!🤙🤙🔥🔥
I cooked at a Japanese steakhouse and we had to shine and polish the grill every night. I like this a lot better.
For sure! People have asked about why it looks this way - the stainless steel care is much more rigorous - we love the Blackstone for sure!🔥🔥. Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for sharing your video I was wondering how to do the cleaning after each cook. I just got mine yesterday can’t wait to try it out.
Well done Adam. Great minds do think alike. I have a lot of the same questions and put my video up this morning lol. We pretty much do exactly the same thing! Thanks for all your great content. When is the good looking one coming back?
Hahaha!! I’m not showing Brett this comment, it will go to his head!😜. We are hoping together right at the beginning of next month!!
GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
That is exactly how I clean mine thanks and keep them coming enjoy all your videos. I also watch Hungry Hussey and Todd Toven as well all you guys are awesome
Awesome! It becomes a process, but once you know how it all works for you, it’s easy and quick! Two of ur favorite go-to’s for sure! Love Matt and Todd! GRIDDLE ON Glenn!

What kind of oil do you prefer
Great question! I used Canola, but I’ve also used thin coats of Olive Oil and even vegetable oil. For cooking, I prefer avocado, vegetable, or olive oil.
I’m new to the blackstone so I appreciate your videos.

Was that a drop of sweat at 5:13? Then rubbed right in with the oil?
Yikes! I think it was from the oil bottle....🤦♂️Thank heavens it always heats up to burn before the next cook. Thanks for watching man.
Thanks for the video it was awesome and I cleaned my blackstone grill as I watched your video it worked nicely for me.
You can use a onion instead of a towel, just stab it real good like so it doesn’t go anywhere. (When applying the oil to the griddle)
Thank you, yes! I know Blackstone Betty uses an onion, it we’ve never tried. Will definitely give it a go!🤙🤙
An onion??? You learn something new everyday thanks
I have been wanting a griddle but was very hesitant because of how to care for it, I think I’m going to buy one now, great video brother

What’s best to season it with for the very first time?? Blackstone seasoning?
Thank you so much for watching and Congratulations on the new Blackstone! That is so exciting!! We have not used the Blackstone seasoning and conditioner, but hear it works excellent! It should do the trick! Otherwise, any cooking oil will do - we have used canola, vegetable, and flaxseed oil (not together, at different times for different seasonings).
