Imperfections are where humanity is. Imperfect is real. The flaws of things give those things character. When I started painting, I learned to look at an object over and over. There is beauty in every flower, not just the flower that most closely approaches symmetrical perfection. I say approach because perfection, if possible, could only be momentary because all things are in perpetual motion. This is also not taking into consideration the subjective nature of perfection since beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
I really appreciate your statement, "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good."

It's a 70's song from Hall & Oates but it really says alot. Just do what you want....just be what you are. It simplifies things for me when my head is running away wondering all the things that slow us down. The do what you want part is easier. Being what you are is more difficult especially if you have not been living as your authentic self, you will lose people when you start.

"Done is better than perfect, because perfect never gets done". Such a mind blowing quote, I love it! And you cannot be more right when saying that overthinking IS attachment!
For real, this video was so eye opening and liberating for me. I've been struggling with perfectionism for almost all my life, not because I don't believe in my self worth that much, but because I have been constantly judged so much from my family environment that I always struggle to keep up with all the expectations that others are having from me and, most of the times, I end up doing almost nothing or the bare minimum and I end up being even more judged about me being inactive.
I will consider using this quote as my arguing point and I will keep trying my best to detach myself from this whole thing, because it's a horrid life to live.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, may God be constantly laying His blessings before your feet ❤

When I'm overthinking.... I lean on my value system. Tapping those specific resources....spirituality (prayer) health and well-being (workout, bike ride, walk, sweat), call a friend or family member, pick up my guitar, create, or gratitude journal.
The hardest part is "trusting" your value system will be the fix as you push to take action towards it.

One thing I find helps my nervous system when I'm worked up about what other people will think of my work is to remember that the reason we care about what other people think is that we're a social species and that for our ancient ancestors being rejected from the tribe could literally mean death. So it's understandable that we are programmed to worry about rejection BUT we don't live in that world and rejection DOESN'T (generally) mean death anymore. We can reassure ourselves that rejection is a lot safer than it used to be, even if our nervous systems haven't fully caught up to that fact, and we can do that without getting mad at our nervous system for trying to protect us from what it sees as a genuine threat to our existence.
Sometimes we just have to - lovingly - parent our own nervous system.

I just wanted to thank you for this video.
I'm in Málaga, Spain at the moment and will start a teaching job in Sevilla in September.

    “Progress not perfection”
This is a great video, I found the way you described the problems of perfectionism really helpful. I need to remind myself of some of those hard truths when I feel myself sliding into old bad habits! I think the way you embody what you’re teaching comes across and it adds much more power to your content. I definitely noticed the ❤❤ energy - thanks Clarke!

When I catch myself overthinking I make a decision. If it's something I can resolve, I move forward and resolve it. If it's something I cannot resolve I consider what I learned and force myself to move on by focusing on my current environment. Staying aware of my current situation is ideal. Dwelling on something you cannot change or "fix" takes away from your current life.

Me and my grandpa started going to the driving range every week to shoot golf balls. The first time, I used a right handed club and then I practiced with a left handed club the next week. A key takeaway from this is I would do a lot of practice swings. And every time I would try to make sure I made a good shot, I would do these practice swings and funny enough they got worse every time before I made the actual shot, then I would either miss or it would be a weak swing. Then I sort of let my body go and I would just take the shot. And every time I did this, my ball would fly further and further. And this ties into a lot of aspects of my life such as school. I would start crushing tests and doing extremely well when I learned how to live in the present moment and letting go of all connections to the past, future, and what I would do by overcomplicating it.

best tip is to add water (action) to fire (thinking)
wrong to slow down ⚠ it will make you "think" why I can't stop.. thus back into the thought loop..
just do anything and more doing will train you to do more and think less, it's practice that changes us

I’m not really religious, but when I’m feeling anxious I have to stop and tell myself to “Give it to God”. This really helps me slow down and gives me a feeling of I’m not alone. I also look at the root word of Worry, which means to strangle. I worry a lot, translates to, I’m strangling my thoughts.

Try to find a bigger picture of yourself. Like, why is it happening this way? Why are you so worrying about it? Why are you scared? Then, i think we can focus on that bigger picture and try to take just one step at a time.
I've lived my life overthinking about the impossibilities for years but somehow I've made on my own today. I don't exactly have much right now but I still find my life hopeful while trying to make a meaningful life. At the end of the day, it is what it is.

So I have an overthinking strategy that I think really helps a lot. If you're an over thinker, especially about the future. Recognize that. You know how to think ahead, you know how to think about the details and the little things that could happen. You could think about anything. Instead of mulling it over and listing things out, think " wow yeah I think I have way more scenarios covered than I could ever need ". And then just TRUST yourself that you will handle whatever happens. You're smart, you can react and adapt. If you can come up with 20 plans just in case, you can absolutely come up with one good plan on the fly when & if it's needed.

anyone else who replayed this, anyone got a that Owen Wilson vibe from the intro? hehe I dont know, maybe I was overthinking it. nonetheless, this was a great video and insight to overcome overthinking while sharing more of your art, expressing yourself. you got me red handed with the perfectionists being judgemental, as i felt paralysed to upload to share content during a period of time, the only thing you could do was project the frustration on other peoples work. instead, we need to get lost in the fire of sharing our art consistently. Believe in the power of volume. its the portfolio. its the workout. its the albums. not the clips, not the perfect sets, no the perfect 10s on this soundtrack. This approach of taking off the weight to share your art, is relieving. Work to Publish, Play the infinite game.

One of the things I've learned from overthinking is that you need to focus on the things you can realistically do.
We stress ourselves out on things we don't even have control of.
Focus on what you have in hands, take a realistic approach, and, as Clark said, keep it slow and go one step at a time.

Something thats helped me with overthinking is to admit to myself i dont know everything. Even if i cant see a path forward to achieving my goals, doesnt mean the path doesn't exist. Sometimes you gotta just take a few steps in the direction you wanna head towards before you can see things more clearly
