Over here in the east coast of Northern Ireland, our nearest neighbour, and commemoration of Burns' Night is just ready for a 'sausage roll' filling. Scored, glazed, and into the everyone's pastry is ready, with creamed potatoes, garden peas and creamy peppercorn sauce! 😋😋😋😋
Thanks for this, i share my birthday with my twin sister Elizabeth, we were born in a tennement flat in Glasgow on Burns night in 1962, blessings from Glasgow ❤❤❤
Wow, you added butter and the beaten egg, and turned this in to an expensive meal!!🤣. Hello from Houston! Thank you! You serve the most attractive plates of food. Your family is quite blessed! My skills are good, but not beautiful😝
Hmmm, lovely. Bet you enjoyed that. I sometimes use that filling for wee pies that have a skirlie topping instead of pastry. Gives a nice crunch/texture. Haggis makes a great filling for beef olives/rouladen too.
I think you've re invented the traditional burns night dinner Cheryl, I mean who would of thought of doing that, I think they are just great, well done
As a college student in Fife, living on fresh air and a few pennies (and saving those for beer) I ate a lot of haggis because it was about the cheapest meat available. I hope that haggis hasn’t gone all gourmet and expensive like oxtail, lamb shanks and tripe have over here. I tried making it once myself with everything but the lungs, but it turned out looking like grey horse turds and tasted no better. One of these days I will be back in Cupar and go shopping for a proper haggis.
When I was a kid my aunt Louie and uncle Jimmy used to babysit us when my mum was working. Which was basically all the time lol. I grew up in Glasgow till I was 5 . I always loved all the scottish food but my absolute favourite was Stovies. Could you make it one day.
I had the burns week meal at Wetherspoons, the potato and haggis were no nice, but no neeps, was given garden peas instead, so quite disappointing, I guess I'll have to do my own and this looks perfect, be well x
Oh, thank you! I was on one site and asked about neeps.Someone said they were turnips, someone said they were beets, some said they were pasnip, and someone said "Swedes", which meant nothing to this American! FINALLY, someone said it was a turnip. NOw I am sure!
And then there's rutabaga lol! They look so similar to turnips. Also, parsnips look like carrots, but they're like a white/cream color. I've never tasted turnips, rutabaga or parsnips lol
@@texastea5686 I'm not wild about rutabagas or turnips, but I like parsnips. I bake them. Often I bake them with baby carrots and sweet potato slices in a butter-orange juice-nutmeg-ginger sauce,(with a hint of brandy, sometimes). Sometimes I bake those in pastry. I don't do the pastry often anymore as one son is gluten sensitive, and I need to watch my carbs ,but it is really good and guests love it.
Ooo, looks lovely 😋 Definitely will be trying these. We had haggis and tatties on Robert Burns night. It's also my son's birthday on Robert Burns day and he loves Haggis 😀 xx
Looks very good. I wish I knew what haggis tasted like. Live in Wisconsin, in the US. Unfortunately we cant get haggis here. I did try a fake "haggis" in a can my boyfriend ordered online in a kit. It was nasty, but the candy bars were great and the IRN Brew( dont know how to spell) was good. Thanks for the great recipe.
from what ive heard of the making of haggis is very similar to scrapple, i am in the states and they wont let us have proper haggus, si thinking i could substitute scrapple
The rolls look so tasty Cheryl. We Sassenach's do not like Haggis, sorry 😂 but whilst watching the video I had a thought !! I will try this recipe with seasoned beef mince, potatoes and Swede . Hope it is as good as yours. Thank you in advance. 🌹🌹
Just want to say Today my other half has made these for dinner foe the family. (Not me though). . He loves haggis . So does his mum and the kids will be none the wiser haha. Waiting on them to cook. But there's a few meals of yours that have had us like. Ah. That for dinner tomorrow then. My father was born ans raised in the Highlands.of Scotland. And he never liked haggis. Properly why I won't try it 😂. So to ur house up there Fri us down here (London way). Thanks fornthe inspiration for some dinners . Love the videos
These look spectacular, Cheryl! I'll have to try that! Have to special order haggis online from here in Oklahoma, and it's quite expensive. Might have to be NEXT Burns night. Xxx PS I used your mustard cream sauce (with some whiskey), and it was easy and delicious 😋
Did you find a place to sell it?? If so, would you mind sharing? I saw that haggis was banned to be imported into the US since the 70s, but now some things changed this past year?? I hope so! :-)
Happy Burns'Night. I do not like Haggis but a wee sausage roll with ground pork/beef? those yes, thank you for the recipe, might adapt to my taste ;-) also wehre are the baked beans? l;ol just kidding but I miss them
HI I am a Welsh guy who loves haggis and I love this recipe , do you have any other haggis recopies ,like haggis pie or haggis potato cakes etc., you don't normally reply to my posts, lets' hope I'm lucky this time. Thanks.
A 'neep' is a swede/ rutabaga; short for 'turnip' in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Are you getting confused? They're the same thing. It's the large purpley skinned Swedish turnip and what the English call a swede.
We used to have haggis, neaps and tatties for Burns Night every year while the children were growing up. I miss it since the lady who fixed it for us went vegan...
And yes, it’s meat. Lamb heart, liver and “pluck” which is pretty much everything else, including lungs and spleen- mixed with oatmeal and spices and traditionally boiled inside a sheep stomach or bladder. When you say it out loud, it sounds frightening, but it’s just another type of peasant food - using all of the animal. And quite tasty by the way, but many turn their nose up at even trying it.
@@makelikeatree1696 I've tried it. The spices and Oates made it a little bit like stuffing, so I enjoyed that part. I have to say that I did not know 100% of all of the organs that were in there. And I didn't ask. I didn't die, LOL.
SHARRE ... you can always search in the internet to see what "haggis" and "swedes" are. Not sure if English is your second language or what country you hail from, but haggis, I believe, is more of a UK specialty.
Aussie sausage roll , Scottish style 🤗
Happy Burns Night everyone 🏴🇦🇺🦘🥃🥃
Now you're whistling Dixie, Oor Cheryl. I love haggis, tatties and turnip. In Puff Pastry, you've taken it to a new level. You're a diamond 💎

Hi Cheryl, those look gorgeous, you are a brilliant cook, your husband really is one lucky man, keep up the good work 👏

They look so delicious, and l will definitely be making them 👍
You made a ‘classic’ even more Scottish 🤣👍. Well done!.
I made myself a very swanky ‘onion-mash’ on Burns Night.
Made these for 2024 Burns Night in Nova Scotia. Thanks for the idea! Slàinte
Looks blooming yummy
Just found your channel and love it. I can't get haggis in America, but it did give me an idea for a substitute. Thank you. 😀
I thought a roll of mild breakfast sausage.
Yeah that is what I was thinking too.

Down in the West Country of Sassenach-land, neeps are called manglewurzels!
I have a load of leftover haggis and turnip. Think I'll try this in a pie. Thanks!

That’s brilliant… I’m prone to making weird conclusions, but I’d never had though of that… 🤔😋🥰
This looks so yummy! We don’t have haggis where I live and I have always wondered what it tastes like.
It tastes like the very worst parts of a sheep that the lords toss out the back ... and by that, I mean delicious.

I would do it with smashed rather than mashed potatoes. And with pieces of haggis.

Just wish we could get real haggis in America 😢
I wonder if I can get haggis rolls here in Australia
Gotta Google more info on Burns Night now. ..
Hi Cheryl! I lived in the UK for 15 years and I LOVE Haggis! Do you happen to know if we can buy it here yet?? 👏🙋♀️🇺🇸🥰‼️
Wish we could get decent haggis here. Used to be able to but unfortunately not anymore. *Sigh* You know I would only put mushrooms in it right? 😎
Would be lovely with a mushroom duxelles Gary! 😃
Burns night on the 2nd Feb?
This was filmed last week Becky 🙃
@@WhatsForTea oh sorry thought you meant tonight
I'm gonna buy some canned Haggis. TY.
It looks very good but I don't think I could eat haggis! I do love rutabaga though.❤️
I’ve never seen Haggis in our shops in Delaware USA. Wonder if I could substitute a pork sausage, minced beef or pork?
Of course

Haggis, neeps, tatties. There is a link between Scotland and Sweden, don't you think?
As with all the Scandinavian countries

😭
@@WhatsForTea it's probably stems from mad cows disease, when offal was definitely banned. That is the main ingredient in haggis.
What is a swede?
Like Stromboli...but very different
I have only one problem with this I'm from the States and we can't get Haggis from the stores here 😪 other than that it looks really good 🥔🥔
I think Ackroyds Bakery might ship.
Or use ground meat or breakfast sausage
We can't get haggis in America. So guess minced lamb would do.
I think we can get stuff that's made here in the country that does not include the lungs
What,exactly ,is haggis
Here in the USA we can't get a true and proper Haggis! Our government banned the sale and importation of the hearts and lungs!
I was in Edinburgh recently and I once again bought haggis pakoras from an Indian takeaway. Splendid stuff.
What a blend!
