My wife grew up in South Africa, and has been making Sausage Rolls as a treat for us for our 42 years of marriage. As a kid growing up in Boston (US), I was unfamiliar with this tasty treat. She wanted to make some for some friends recently, but got sick. The ingredients were all in the fridge. I saw this video, and thought, I can do this. Made about 18 this morning! They are delicious if I don't say so myself. Thanks for the help. It was easy to follow. Just needed to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit and my cooking time was a bit longer (23 minutes) but otherwise, Easy as Pie!
I am having some friends over this weekend and plan to make these for the first time. Can't wait to see how they turn out. Most of my American friends have never heard of them. Wish me luck!!!
My late husband grew up in Nottingham, migrated to Australia at age 19 and ended up marrying an American, poor lad. But he made delicious sausage rolls and I've been hungry for some ever since I lost him a few years back. Thank you Paul, I think I might be able to pull this off. I hope ;) PS, I had to put your The Great British Baking Show on hold while watching you on UA-cam. Am back to it now and tomorrow is the day to make these sausage rolls. Oh, and I had a good chuckle when you said 'knock it up' because in the US that means to impregnate. Divided by a common language ha ha
Living in the US I’d never had one before but kept hearing how great they were on the GBBS. So I decided to try my hand at making them last year… Now I’m hooked! Simple but absolutely delicious!!! 😎❤️👍
As an American, I've never had a sausage roll. However, the UA-cams is telling me that it's one of the greatest English culinary achievements of all time, and so I think I might just have to "knock up" a few to have with a pint or two.
look twards the land down under for the best pies and sausage rolls my friend, we continue to stay safe from the mad cow disease that provides england with their teeth... oh and "knock up" means impregnate so id be careful throwing that around unless you are about the american pie life we see on tv, and im being fair fucking dinkum btw!
A beer and I'd serve with delicious home made tomato relish! These i shall be making down here in Oz for sime Christmas gatherings. Merry Christma to everybody. These look like a bloody winner IMO. Yum
I'd like to thank you for the tenor of your show and positive encouragement of all your participants. This video just reinforces that nature, with encouragement to go the most complex route, but giving us beginning bakers license to be practical in using premade products. Thank you!
Cor! These look amazing. I like to do mine with rough-puff pastry and I smear Coleman’s English mustard along one side of the sausage, before rolling and sprinkle on black onion seeds 😊
I love that you used frozen puff pastry because it makes the recipe so much more accessible for the average baker with limited time! I am going to make these for my husband this week! Looks amazing! Thank you:)
Goodmorning DEAREST EVERYBODY everywhere in the WORLD and especially DEAREST PAUL HOLLYWOOD!!!!SOOOOOO NICE TO SEE YOU'RE SHOWING US YOUR PRECIOUS WISDOM!!!!🏆🏆🎉🎉🎉🤗 THANKS FOR SHARING THIS VIDEOS. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS LESSON AND WILL DEFINITELY TRY IT TO BAKE FOR THE CHURCH. PLEASE BE HAPPY FOREVERMORE AND STAY VERY HEALTHY SO YOU CAN LEARN US HOW TO BE A SMARTBAKER AS YOU ARE!!!🤗😍🍾🥂 GOD BLESS YOU PAUL😍😍😍
My family makes something similar, but with Italian sausage that is cooked first and crumbled and we use bread dough rolled out, then sprinkle generously with parmesan and baked. It is a family tradition for almost every holiday. Love to see you try it and see what you think. Bake it whole and slice after it has cooled a little.
I do use frozen puff pastry when I make sausage rolls, but ours is already rolled out. The caramelized onions is something I haven’t done. I need to try that. Cheers from Minnesota, USA.
That classic Sausage Roll already made me hungry Paul, and seeing you taste it more because you transmit that pleasant sensation of the preparation! Thanks for sharing your recipes and videos! Congratulations!
Thank you Paul, I really enjoy watching your Easy Bakes. I just finished doing the sausage rolls and they came out yummy! Love watching you enjoy the baking with love and enthusiasm. You make me happy :)
Paul using premade puff pastry?! What is the world coming to? I'm an American, and I've been interested in trying sausage rolls for a while. Thanks for showing me how! They look so good! (Your giggle of pleasure at the end was so fun!)
My compromise on this absolute brilliant treat, is to purchase a puff pastry and prepare my own breakfast sausage using freshly ground pork adding my favorite blend of spices... Cheers!
Really enjoying your easy bake series, decided to choose three of your easy bakes as a family and me and my dad are starting with this recipe, we're going to call it sausage roll Sunday from now on. Thanks so much for making this available!
When visiting Northern Ireland I had my very first sausage roll. The flavor was amazing. Nothing in the USA comes close. My only concern is that I think our sausage might be too fatty for this recipe, but willing to try it and see.
I love this channel lol! Craving English sausage since having it in a pub a few years ago on a trip to London. Paul you are such a great presenter, this was so much fun to watch!
Any sausage roll can be pimped up by adding stuff to the sausagemeat- I like pistachios, semi-dried fruits like cranberries, garlic paste, or garlic sausage slices. I use Cumberland sausages as a base. Great channel, btw!
Whenever I visit Ireland, the first thing I look for are sausage rolls! If we get in early, it’s an Ulster Fry. I tried making sausage rolls with American sausage, but it’s not the same. Different texture and spices makes or breaks a sausage roll.
Woah ... what a surprise, thank you for you still spoil us with your recipes, oh yes sausage rolls !!! Interesting tip caramelized onion !!! Be blessed noble soul!🙏🙏🙏
I make mine from a Delia Smith recipe and a little different but always have a grand response. I love your slant on this with onions. I'm caught, going to try
Try a little"Everything Bagel Sprinkles " on top of the Egg Wash. I have done a Baked Brie in Pastry Puff with Sprinkles on the Egg Wash. Keep a bottle of Sprinkles on your Seasoning Rack
Well first of all oh my goodness what a handsome fellow 😍 And secondly, what a wonderful pure and simple recipe with just the sausage and caramelized onion!! Brilliant! And I love the size that you made them. This actually made me very hungry and it made me want to make these. It's the first time I've ever seen Paul on UA-cam and this was impressive. Thank you so much.
Just discovered easy bakes Paul. My daughter and I were having a debate the other day about how to make sausage rolls so I’ve been looking up recipes. Your sausage rolls look so delicious I’m going to make them next time I bake. Yummy! ❤
My butcher has been making the same sausage meat recipe for 60 years. Perfect for me because they’re FODMAP free, ie, no onions, garlic, apple (fructans and fructose). Also, I hate flaky pastry, I always use shortcrust. It doesn’t stick to the roof of your mouth like flaky. Just my preferences, because that’s the way mum made them with that same sausage meat 60 years ago. ❤
These were very simple to make and tasty; perfect with some spicy brown mustard. For me they were slightly sausage heavy, so next time I will probably reduce the sausage by ~25%.
Must admit that living in Australia sausages are generally crap (and their sausage rolls too) so I make my own mix from the basics of pork mince, garlic, onion et al. It's so easy to do and you can add so many things like spices or even veal etc. I often do fried bacon/onion etc as a part of the mix but never so many caramelized onions so will give that a try! Regrettably, I do tend to use pre-made puff pastry though but it's good enough. It's now an annual tradition and I'm in real trouble if I don't make them... I'm an Engineer, NOT a cook..! I just wish that decent sausages were available here....
I agree that good sausages are hard to find here. The big supermarkets use that minced mush stuff. Italian inspired sausages made by a butcher I am told can be great
You're buying the wrong sausages. Even supermarket sausages can be good if you get the right ones. I've had some great Cumberland and Lincolnshire supermarket sausages here, Woolies and Coles. Also used them in a similar recipe to this, but just skinned them and laid them end-to-end in the pastry without mushing them first. I defo need to try the caramelised onion though - that looks so good.
Another tasty treat is to get small croissants cut a slice of thin sliced ham into three or four pieces and some bits of cheddar cheese. Slice the croissant halfway through from the side tuck in a piece of ham and a piece of cheese. Into a hot oven for ten minutes and hey presto ham and cheese croissants.
There’s a wee cafe in St Andrew’s Scotland called the Cottage Kitchen that makes the best sausage rolls I’ve ever tasted. They sell out quickly tho, but sometimes if you start to cry, someone will share theirs. 😂
Hi Paul, hope you & family are well. Seeing this today, has helped my mental health massively. By the way of me just making some, & ive found my family baking spark again. So thank you. Plus, I've my Grandads baking recipes that go back to the 40's. So should be fun.

In South Africa we tend to use beef instead of pork, so potentially an alternative ingredient you could also try :)
Can you wrap that in bacon? Im gonna try right now, and I made my own yeast dough
How did the kudos go down when they asked you how you "made" them,,, I bet they said they were delicious nevertheless,,, @@irenebridges8494

Not just English , all over the UK 👍
As a Canadian who once travelled Australia, I don't understand why these are not equally common in North America. They're amazing!

Breakfast food here in Australia
Or party food
Made puff pastry once. It came out great! Won't ever do it again. So much work and time needed.
Try Delia Smith’s rough puff pastry. It’s easy and delicious !
Yeah I'm with you it's too much work
Buy the readymade i do
@@grettawaugh8446 do you buy the real stuff or the stuff that's full of chemicals?
The real stuff of course!😊
Hi Paul I watched the easy bake and I have not stopped baking, thanks alot.you have saved my bacon 😊
I love the joy that sausage rolls bring you!
Sausage rolls. The single best invention ever. Buttery flakey puff pastry and sausage. You just can't get any better than that.
Bacon butty
Love the caramelised onion, takes the roll to another level
You inspired me from this to have a go at my very first attempt at cooking.
“You want a hot oven and cold pastry - that’s what gives it the rise “ 💯 💯 💯 ✅
A beer and I'd serve with delicious home made tomato relish! These i shall be making down here in Oz for sime Christmas gatherings. Merry Christma to everybody. These look like a bloody winner IMO. Yum
Lived off these things on an Ireland trip 20 years ago. This American approves of the sausage roll!!!
I am really happy you begin this videos again
I just love Paul Hollywood.

Najbolji slani kolac ako je najbolja kobasica. Sausage! Jedina riječ koju znam izgovorit.
I have NEVER heard Paul Hollywood chortle, that was delightful! And I will definitely be making these soon.
Thank you:)
I baked these a week ago and they were delicious!!!🎉
Great lad I think he should be a judge in a baking competition
I love these videos. They’re calming and the mood of that kitchen.. the dim lights and all give me that cozy feeling. 💟

Hello! I live in Nebraska. I fist ate sausage rolls in London and they were delicious. What type of sausage do you use here in the US?
This is outrageous!! I need to make it now!!
Sausage rolls one of my favourite guilty pleasures
Love this. My personal favourite to make is Pork & Fennel sausage rolls with precooked caramelised onion like yours. Sound.
That classic Sausage Roll already made me hungry Paul, and seeing you taste it more because you transmit that pleasant sensation of the preparation! Thanks for sharing your recipes and videos! Congratulations!
Paul you are really wonderful and expert in baking
Paul you made baking so simple and the sausage rolls made me hungry. Thank you! Shalom

Thank you Paul, I really enjoy watching your Easy Bakes. I just finished doing the sausage rolls and they came out yummy! Love watching you enjoy the baking with love and enthusiasm. You make me happy :)
I love making these, but I do them Texas style. I use pickled jalapenos and pepper jack cheese to mine.
Paul using premade puff pastry?! What is the world coming to?
I'm an American, and I've been interested in trying sausage rolls for a while. Thanks for showing me how! They look so good! (Your giggle of pleasure at the end was so fun!)

this looks seriously good
I've never had a sausage roll but I really want some right now! 😋😆
You don't know what your missing, delicious, so easy to make.
They’re so delicious! A good pork sausage works well. I like the Jimmy Dean sage sausage, but you can also season your own using plain ground pork.
Really enjoying your easy bake series, decided to choose three of your easy bakes as a family and me and my dad are starting with this recipe, we're going to call it sausage roll Sunday from now on. Thanks so much for making this available!

I really enjoyed discovering how to make the susage roll. I'm live in USA. Paul thank you for sharing.
Totally agree with the choice of sausage meat Paul👌It would be nice to see you do something with stuffed chine or haslet too.
Love u Paul, free hugs from Romania 🤗♥️😁
This seems so easy and these look so good!
I'm now hungry thanks Paul 🤣🤣 They look amazing. Caramelised onion works so well I couldn't agree more
These bakes really are simple. This one most of all. I can't think of a more simple recipe, to be honest.
Looks delicious simple to prepare I will prepare some Paul you always give us the best keep baking thanks for sharing ☺️

Made my first puff pastry today. Turned out well! Learned a lot lol. Will try these next! Thanks Paul!
Making these for dinner right now. Just waiting for the onions to caramelize. It smells so good in here.
Paul, you'd roll a mad joint. I see the way you work it with that tuck
Thank you, Paul.
Whenever I visit Ireland, the first thing I look for are sausage rolls! If we get in early, it’s an Ulster Fry. I tried making sausage rolls with American sausage, but it’s not the same. Different texture and spices makes or breaks a sausage roll.
I've made sausage rolls in the US with bulk sausage from a butcher, if you have access to one. Came out great.
My favorite kind of sausage role is one with sausage, black pudding and Ballymaloe relish which is an Irish spicy tomato relish. Absolutely delish
I do mine with haggis rather than black pudding.
Felicitări pentru tot ce faci ❤❤❤❤

WoW them sausage rolls looked amazing 😋😋👍
That looks so delicious. I don't think we have a comparable sausage here in the north eastern USA, but not sure.
Recipe on line - Google How to make Irish sausage. Very simple recipe.

Lovely....I can just about taste and smell them.
Could have done without the slow motion shot of Paul rolling the sausage meat!!! However, I tried this recipe & they were delicious 😋😋😋
