Sicilian Sausage Rolls (Tomasini) | Food Wishes
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 січ 2024
- This is my take on Sicilian sausage rolls, or as our Sicilian friends would call them, “tomasini.” These ricotta cheese and Italian sausage filled spirals may not be that authentic, but they are extremely delicious, and if you use some ready-made pizza dough, they are also very easy! Enjoy!

Happy new year!
🎉 Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year Chef🎉🎉
400 for 45 minutes?? Wouldn’t they be cremated by then?
Thanks and the same for you. Thanks for sparking joy in 2024 "as always".
"You are, after all, the RuPaul of makin that call. Oh, and speaking of tucking." I laughed. That was absolutely *chef's kiss* perfect.
I actually LOL’d at “speaking of tucking…” You’re the best, Chef John!
You are not alone my friend
Definitely a joke that I was not expecting
Seamless with the "Rupaul Call" very cheeky 😜 fo' sho'...
Anyway, I digressed. Instead of Friday nite pizza night, I'll make these instead! Thanks Chef!🙌🏻
this man is seriously the GOAT
No cayenne..... Mind blown. 🤯 We enjoy you so much Chef John. Thank you for all the recipes and humor. ❤
What is chili flakes if not chunky style cayenne?
My wife makes these, she’ll mix it up with pepperoni as well. They are outrageous, now I’ve got to have some.
The RuPaul comment immediately followed by tucking comment.😂 Those look delicious.
Chef John you are the Buffalo Bill of giving cooking videos a thrill!!
Chef John is, after all, the Quentin Tarantino of the Sicilian Tomasino.
@@padraicfanning7055 Thanks but did anyone get the tuck reference? Me thinks not...
Recently one of my friends (of Sicilian descent) was begging me to make your Sicilian Christmas pizza. Now I'm conflicted as to which to make.
Of course, I could (and likely will) do both.
Leslied... do it. Both! 😂
Remember, your the Billy Bats of your Sicilian sausage snacks.
My Nonna made these when we were kids. (Though recipe was slightly different) She would cut the rolls using string rather than a knife. I still make the way my Nonna did. Happy New Year!!
I like that my first impulse was "Shouldn't the lines be alternated?" and immediately I'm rewarded. The smallest things can be so satisfying. Just like this dish!
I totally caught that joke Chef John 😂 after the Rupaul rhyme then says, and speaking of tucking!! ❤
And when he said "after you tuck in that sausage, no one will know" !!
@@stillnessbetween5103 ohh yes. The rest of it was even funnier. What a hoot! 🤣
We've been making two kinds of Breakfast Sausage Pinwheels with Southern Buttermilk Biscuit Dough, one with Hickory Smoked Sausage and the other with Tennessee Pride Mild Sausage for 40 years! You can use Bisquick Biscuit Dough, too. They are great with or without cheese melted on top and served with scrambled eggs and Cracker Barrel Hashbrown Casserole! 😋😉😎
So you make the bisquick dough and roll it out thin like this?
@@Adiera Yes roughly 1/2" thick, and spread the sausage gently and evenly across the dough, roll it up and cut it. Watch them and also your baking time as it varies with how thick you cut them. You want them slightly crisp (GBD - golden, brown and delicious) on the top, done on the bottom and the sausage cooked through. Enjoy!
Mmmmm… Cracker Barrel Hash brown casserole, I haven’t had that in years! 🤤
@@whyamiheredlb
Hashbrown Casserole (The secret is the soup.)
2 lb. Frozen Cubed Hashbrown Potatoes thawed overnight in refrigerator
1 can (10 oz.) Cream of Chicken Condensed Soup
1/2 Medium Onion diced
2 cups Colby Cheese (8 oz. bag) shredded
1/2 stick Unsalted Butter (1/4 cup) melted
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Preheat oven 350°
Grease 9x13 pan with butter and/or oil spray
Combine all ingredients except hashbrowns in large bowl
Add potatoes folding gently
Pour into greased pan
Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and delicious
This may be portioned and pressure frozen once cooled to room temperature.
Enjoy! 😎
5:50 That got a laugh out of me XD Definitely going to try these soon for my house's weekend dinner!
“And speaking of tucking . . .” 😂
The legend Chef John always! His smooth voice, wit and awesome recipes never fail to be awesome.
RuPaul...speaking of tucking!! 🤣😆😂 You're Amazing!! So excited to try these!!
Learning that Chef John is a drag race fan (or at least has watched enough to know both Ru Paul & what tucking is) is the best way to start 2024 lol I can't wait to make this
Being half sausage I approve!
My favorite Thing about your cooking, Chef…. Your ability to watch yourself and see the changes you decided were needed. Cooking is fun, after all.
There's a first class pun tucked in this video!
Thanks Chef John ! Keep these recipes coming ! By far my favorite “go to “ recipe chef !
Happy new year chef John ✨ thanks for starting us off with a great recipe 😊
Hi Chef John 😊
Love the Ru reference LMAO
These were very delicious! I made my own pork sausage for them, and my husband raved! The next morning the leftovers were warmed and served with runny-yolked eggs. Makes a fabulous twist on a Benedict! Thanks, Chef John!
"Oh and speaking of tucking..." 😂😂😂 Happy New Year Chef John!
Going to have to remember this for next holiday season...
Oh my gosh, thank you, thank you, thank you for this recipe. My Italian grandma made these when I was little and I regret not getting more of her recipes before she died. My sister and I remembered it being called something else so we’ve never found it. I am so excited! Like you said, it’s the rolling that is the trick. She made her dough & rolled hers like yours to start out, but when she got it halfway rolled she then rolled in from the other side. I think I’m going to try your way first! Thank you so much! We’ve literally looked for years!
Love the RuPaul reference, then the follow up!! You, sir, are the master of subtle humor.
Chef John everything that you create hits my taste buds, Thanks and Happy New Year!
You are, after all, the Harry Houdini of your Sicilian Tomasini
Tomasini has an extra syllable which defeats the purpose of your attempted wordplay.
I can't watch your videos without my mouth watering. It's like you know exactly the snacks and food that will make me hungry.
I freaking died at the tucking joke. Never change chef.
New year, but nothing's change. CJ is still cracking me up. 🤣
I've been eating these my entire life but ive just today learned their italian name
Hi Chef John! I hope that you have a really wonderful, peaceful, and prosperous new year.🎉
I swear I ate dinner. I swear it was delicious and filling... but now that I've watched this, I'm so hungry and the only thing I want is these sausage rolls.
Happy New Year Chef John! I made your potato chip cookie recipe! They were delicious and everybody that I gave them to was shocked that they were potato chip cookies, but loved them. Thank you so much for always sharing your recipes. They’re always a winner.
Happy new years! Looks delicious but I am going to use preparedmimi meat balls!
OH. MY . GAWD. "speaking of tucking" made me literally spew my drink! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA
"Oh, and speaking of tucking...", LOL!!
Happy new year Chef John! Thanks for all the marvelous recipes on all these years. I'm adding this one to the "Gonna do this weekend" list
Welcome back chef John, happy new year this recipe is the perfect start.
your recipe videos always hit the spot! Your clear instructions and enthusiasm make trying out new dishes a breeze. Thanks for making cooking fun and accessible for everyone! 👨🍳🌟
Thank you so much for this recipe and all your others! I really love you! I wish you a happy and healthy new year!
Happy New Year, Chef John! This looks so delicious! Thank you for your videos and recipes.🎉
Italian Party Bread's cousin from Sicily. Love it.
Definitely gonna make these soon, but then use them as buns for breakfast sandwhiches with egg, yet more cheese, and bacon.
Being half Sicilian I approve!!!
Hmm, with the eggs these would be so cool for brunch.
Happy New Year. I'm going to try this.
Happy New Year Chef John! Thank you so much for an amazing new year recipe! My husband and I, will definitely be making these, maybe for, Super Bowl!
ALL HAIL TO THE CHEF
I was drooling watching this! 🤤🤤
These look much better than the traditional versions I've seen. Will make
Happy New Year to you, too! These look delicious.
Happy new year. This is my kind of comfort food.
I made these a few nights ago for a family gathering and everyone enjoyed them. So delicious with the extra added cheese on top. Thank you so much for sharing such great recipes, Chef John 🧀😊
Hi chef john. Havent seen your videos in years but you and laura in the kitchen single handedly taught me how to cook and be passionate about food since i was 10, im now 23. Glad to see you are still uploading. Happy New Years to you and yours!
You pronounced it perfectly well 😊
Nice! Thanks Chef ! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Chef John! I can see this being used with Grannie's homemade biscuits and Southern sausage! And , as aside, sausage gravy!!
My go-to cookbook is about 50% CJ's recipes. Add one more.
These look delicious but I'm not a fan of ricotta cheese what would be a good substitute?
Happy New Year! Thank you for another great idea.
Just joined your page...love the recipes!
I made these last night and my wife went nuts! I was lucky/kept checking and pulled them out of the oven early and they came out perfect..
Happy New Year from London!
mmmmmmm I just made your Lasagna Soup for the family tonight.... next time this will accompany it.
Greetings from Redondo Beach CA 🇺🇸. I made the best Tomasini by following this video for New Year’s Eve. Thanks for sharing Chef John🌷🌷🥂
Definitely gonna try to make this.
I have never heard of these. They look amazing!
One of the best, and most endearing chef's on YT. Bravo, Giovanni
Wonderful!
making them now. I know they will be great...I could taste them watching the video
thank you
Happy new year chef 👍👍
Happy new year and these look yummy
Not the Rupaul and tucking reference 😂. Okay I’ll make these now, just cause of that alone. Any mess up I make will just simply has to “sashay away”
Look amazing, will try to remember for next potluck.
"Speaking of tucking" got a full belly laugh out of me. Well done, sir, well done.
Love it.
It's Not easy To subscribe to just one UA-cam entity.
Some do not like John's voice delivery... and i find both hilaroius... his delivery is comical... and the critics are, also.
This is simple FUN (Emphases on Simple).
If we're organic type people, we can improvise with organic foodstuffs.
... it's like the video where he doesn't have lettuce in the ingredients...
" if your guests don't like that you don't have lettuce, just ask them to leave (leaf him alone guys). Much love from Tree... who loves these videos. Martijn dool and Johannes could learn a lot from these. Blessings to you and yours, keep growing forward. 😊
I have got to try these... I don't know how often I have to throw out pizza dough.
These are beautiful.
Happy New Year 🎊
I agree with Chef John, while I enjoy hard boiled eggs, I am not a fan of them in baked goods. This recipe has my mouth watering...
“And speaking of tucking…” 😂😂
That tucking joke was S tier lol.
@2:22 chef John proving he's not some AI from the robot overlords and then verifying it at @6:29.
Omg chef John knows who rupaul is, life made lololol
Happy New Year.
Has anyone ever tried this with store bought puff pastry? I feel like it would be a viable twist, especially for a party situation where room temp rolls might take on a little more toughness as they sit...
I did and I do not recommend it. The puff pastry is less dense than regular dough, so, while it baked quicker, it ended up burning on me because I needed the meat to cook thoroughly.
@@wauliepalnuts6134 even with baking at a lower temp? If that's the case, maybe cooking the meat first and then using puff pastry or premade crescent roll dough would be the way to go
Yum
Again!
Thank you
Happy New year from Greece
Love the recipe, I am looking forward to trying it out. Thank you for the great video. Oh, and no double dipping according to the guy yelling at George from Seinfeld. 😆
Well now I need to make these.
“Speaking of tucking”. LOL!
I will certainly make this next weekend. I prefer to add dills or basil than to add green onions. Green onion is too plain. Btw, I think that scissor works better than a knife for cutting dough in this case.
Great recipe... As always...😊 loved the "tucking" reference 😂
Those look delicious. BTW, maybe chill the rolled log before trying to cut it?
This technique can be used with other fillings as well! I make a version with braunschweiger, egg, pickles, onions, mustard, and cheese. I occasionally make a pizza filling version. Stuffed/pinwheel rolls are the best.
