For anyone that will retire soon or already retired, and planning to go to Vietnam. you live good for $1000 or less, but with $2000 monthly income you will live like a king.
That depends what people feel like being a king is like. My average spending in Vietnam is around 5k usd. And i have met people who spent more
@@vinl3358A month? That’s like half a year for me :D
I know I’ve been to Vietnam and Cambodia twice. I cannot express how delicious the food is.

$1000 is a decent amount of money to spend in Vietnam in general but not Saigon. But you managed to do it so 👏🏽
Love this video man, very inspiring in terms of me wanting to create more content! I live on 500$ a month here in HCMC, Vietnam but, I cook all my own meals and live in Binh Chanh district (basically in District 8). Happy I watched this as I now am craving indian food and have never come across a deal like that! All the best! Cam on, nha! :D
hey man im glad i can inspire you to create more content :) Yeah those districts are hella cheap for sure. No problem man hope you stick around with me for more videos and adventures !!
Thanks for this. I currently live in Chicago and plan to retire to Vietnam and live on my SS which will be just under $1,000
Any advice you can give would be great. I'm not picky and I don't need a lot.
$1000/month is actually alot of money. I have been living in vietnam for 5 years at $450/month.
For 5 years cost a Chanel bag at around $4k. Yet cost it $8.8k🙂🙃
Wooowww..!! I wanna come and stay with You for some days..!!
Most people only make $250-$500 a month in Vietnam. So $1000 is a good amount
I'm bout to go all out when I retire in 4 years taking in at least 4k
Is your place as nice as theirs?
My wife is from Ho Chi Mihn City. WE met at a work here in Tulsa Ok. I've never been to Viet Nam. We are planning to go there next summer. This was an interesting, informative video. You've got a good voice for videos/radio/tv etc... God Bless!
thank you eric :) hope you stick around for more videos!
No stay home stop preadong covid
These videos are really helpful to me. Me and my husband are thinking of moving and working in vietnam, i've been a teacher in UK for almost 10 years now and just looking for that next adventure. We just think we can have a nicer life and not break the bank out there. Thanks for the videos!!
if you move to vietnam , you are wrong , if you want to adventure just go to thailand, thailand is the best country for your family
Nothing is wrong, nothing is perfect but i love living in Viet Nam.
Vietnamese need more English teacher specialy in the North. so you will find your opportunities. Also the people are hospitality and Vietnam is top 10 countries worth to live for foreigner 2021 according to 2btalents.
We were in Saigon for month in 2016. It is amazing how much the city has modernized. Please do a video on Dalat. It was one of my favorite places outside of Saigon.
Thanks for watching Adam! Hope to see ya around on the channel more often. Yes hcmc is so modern now. Wait till you see it now so many high rises now since You’ve been here last
I haven't been to Vietnam since 2019, totally looking forward to finally getting to go in June
I used to go to Saigon every winter before Covid, and just from one year to the next, there was so much development

With those overseas insurance plans, remember you will most likely still have to pay a deposit up front before they will treat you, then you have to file a claim to get reimbursed later. So if you have a major medical emergency and you can't pay for it, you're still screwed even though you have the insurance.
Yes that is something you really need to take into consideration forsure!
Love your videos and I would also love to learn more on where to stay/your recommendations if I am staying for 3 months. We are looking to travel to Vietnam this winter for 3 months and it will be my first international trip!
Where to stay within saigon or the country :) I can make a video about it!
you will not regret going to vietnam, awesome country!
@@TonyOi How about Buon ma Thuot in Dak Lak province ?
I knew someone 1/4 Chinese and 3/4 Vietnam. He grew up in Vietnam then came to America. He bought quite a few properties, apartments. He said if you went to Vietnam with your social security you could live like a Queen
Curious…. I work for myself as an artist in America - I find the idea of living in Vietnam for awhile fascinating . I wonder if having my very specific supplies shipped to me for my art form would be a challenge or if shipping art to my world wide customer base would be difficult or costly -- hmmmmm
Shipping from vietnam you mean ? Like you paint them here and ship from here?
@@TonyOi yes I mean shipping my supplies to me and shipping my art out from there :)
I am a sculptor / silicone doll maker - I use very specific supplies

Being an artist is not a job. Most of artists have tattoos, piercing they are pro LGTB, BLM, feminist. They blame Trump and consume marihuana and like abortion.
I make $4K a month, $100 a day I could live like King in Vietnam. I'm saving to retire there.
Found your video and really enjoyed it. Been working and living in China many years. Trouble is China is very strict! I want to live in Vietnam and enjoy life and work. I wrote to a university called FTU in Hanoi. Waiting to hear. 1) can I get work teaching in Vietnam with my experience teaching at two universities and multiple schools in China for 19 years?
2) will the work get me a long term work visa like China gets me one year visa each year I work.
I like how cheap it is and I definitely want to come to Vietnam. I want to also cook in my apartment as well. I worry as I get money every month about $1300 to $1400 USD. I have Chase Bank. I don’t know if they are in Vietnam! Here they don’t even know in California! I wonder how to get my money each month. I subscribed to your channel as you make it simple and explain much better than others here on UA-cam. Thanks a heap amigo ! Vietnam is a very beautiful country! 再见👋 as they say in China!
I live in Vietnam. You can live there on $500 per month if you go to mekong area. Rent for $200 a month max and food as we all know is 30k tops a meal - so 3 dollars a day!
Great informative blog, and you are a star, the camera loves you. You are vibrant and enthusiastic and enjoyable and you are a great teacher, well done, thank you.
Aw Rick, thanks a ton man it means a lot :) I hope you stick around for more videos to come! Welcome to the team 🤘🏼
I'm glad this came up on my page. Enjoyed the video, super informative and now a subscriber. My wife and I love Saigon, however, we haven't seen the new park and building complexes yet. Do you have an idea of what rental costs would be?
Ahh welcome to the fam dude! Hope to see you around more on the channel. Are you talking about vinhomes and the vinhomes park? I was planning on doing a video there !
@@TonyOi right on bro! We plan to visit South East Asia for a couple of months this summer; starting off in Thailand. Covid permitting of course. 🙏

This was super informative. Curious how easy it is for a Canadian to open a bank account in VN , did you get set up through your job ? Also curious how you navigated visa extensions as a Canadian as we do not have the same 1 year option Americans are privy too? Thanks for the great videos keep it coming ☺️ 💕
Yo! You will need proper paperwork to do so. You’ll need two things - Work contract, and a visa longer than 3 months! But I’m with HSBC VN so western bank and was really easy once I had my visa and work contract.
If your trying to set up here as a digital nomad transfer wise just released a card for Canadians meaning you can have them send you a bank card which can be used anywhere in the world with no withdraw fees from atms. It also acts as a bank account where you can get paid into it and use the card to withdraw money :) look into that!
@@TonyOi do they have Wells Fargo or Chase banks in VN? If so it's easy to draw money from US bank account.. Like your detail video..
Aaron, you may contact the office of the Vietnamese American lawyer "Duong Global Business Consulting Group" in Saigon. I have recently watched many of his useful UA-cam videos about getting a work/travel visa, investing in Vietnam etc. Greetings from the sunshine state California 🤗⛱🌴 Oh, one more thing. I highly recommend Citibank account so that you can open it in many countries and transfer your fund within your Citibank accounts easily. I did it when I lived in West Germany and moved to the U.K., then to the U.S. So I had three Citibank accounts and was able to transfer my money between three countries without paying a transaction fee. Of course, you have to know the max limit of each transaction based on the country law or tax rule‼
@Aaron in Asia: You'll need a minimum 3 months visa, AND the work contract.
@@PhongMike There are five U.S. banks and financial institutions operating in Vietnam. Citibank and Far East National Bank have branches, Wells Fargo and Visa International have representative offices, and JP Morgan Chase has both a branch and a representative office.
You guys seem really chill and enjoying your time in VN! You get the bang for your bucks there!
Frances has been here for 6 years and I’ve been here for 2.5 so yes we do really enjoy life here :)

Staying home for a few days every week and not spending that $22 a day will add up nicely. That money can be put into a savings/emergency fund account.
Yes exactly! I paid off 30k in debt in 2019/2020 being here. I saved about 40k from 2021 - present. (Cad dollars)
I’m so glad I’ve found this video. Keep up the good work bro! I plan to go to Vietnam in April for 3 months.
Can you please advise what is the best way to search and book an Airbnb in hcmc?

I used to live comfortably with just 700$, food, rent, utils, entertainment in Saigon
That is great :) I defs could go lower if I wanted to !
1000 is enough.
Just need to spend $33 a day, that’s about 755,370vnd.
All depend on what you do, where you go in Vietnam, you willing to do how many things per day.
The county side can live for 2-3 months off of 1,000usd.
I agree 1k is plently to live in Vietnam for a foreigner to be just as comfortable as being back in a western country, maybe even better quality of life!
Thanks for the video , nice informations.
I’m also planning to move back to Vietnam.
I know your bikes run cheap but you should include their fuel, purchase/HP and insurance.
I'm traveling from NY could i use that same insurance? thanks fro sharing great video... keep providing great content and all the best. Look forward to your next vlog!
Hey Robert! Glad to have a new member watching the vlogs, hope to see you around on the channel more often.
I reached out to my agent for ya and she told me to send you this
ten-pac.com/service/travel-insurance/
You can purchase insurance here that will cover you for travel accidents and Covid :)
$1000 is about 22tr VND - 23tr VND depend on the market. Of course, you can live with that budget quite nice. If you live a luxurious life and that expensive high end stuff that’s different story
the average vietnamese monthly income is 5,000,000 to 7,000,000 VND and i am being generous here. $1000 usd is about 22,500,000 VND so you are way above what they make. So it is never a question "can you" lol

The biggest complaint I have heard from expats from Vietnam and tourists that have visited Vietnam is the traffic. They say things like “You risk your life every time you cross the street”. Is this true though out Vietnam, is there a difference between different areas in the city Or a difference between city and rural areas?
Country side is way more chilled to cross. But honestly its a thrill 🤣🤣🤣 i dont often hear my expat friends complain about crossing the street!
I spoke to someone from there just within the last six months: _"This is NOT the Vietnam of 50 years ago... Our system has had time to prep, tool up, and get up to speed... It's a different ball game around here now... It's high tech, and it's on track! You want to compete with the Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, and South Koreans for your piece of the Asian Market? Then you gotta prove you can handle the load, Jack!"_
Hi Tony, just found your channel today, as i’m planning to visit in May 😊

Do you like it how the city has become modern ? I kind of prefer the developing vietnam before. Had a nice touch to it
Honestly I love it. I’m modern kind of person and with hcmc you atleast have the option between old school and modern. But in Hanoi it’s still very French inspired and old! There you don’t have an option really.

Great video Tony. I am planning on visiting Vietnam in the next year and I think living there would be awesome. I am also from Utah, do you have a favorite restaurant in Utah?
looks enjoyable. food heaven, warm weather, lots of people.
Vietnam is great:) thanks for watching. I was only suppose to be here for a year but loved it so much it’s been almost 3 🤣
The fact that vietnam is getting more modernized kinda breaks my heart, i miss the tradition and culture. The more modernized it gets, the less culture and tradition theres gonna be..
$1000 a month in Vietnam, you should be expecting to live like a king. Average monthly income is $200. The low laborers earn as less as $50 a month. With the dirt cheap cost of living, makes me want to go to Vietnam and live for a year just to enjoy slower pace and not worry about a single thing. Best thing is it wouldn't cost me anything out of pocket by living off of my investments which earn daily interest return of $300 per day..
teach me how to invest lmfao!
Excellent info Tony. We are visiting Ho Chi Minh on May 17th for 2 weeks. Are you living in District 1? We would like to meet you there
Jairo :) thanks for watching. Hit me up on my discord or instagram and we can chat about it!
Hi from South Jordan Utah enjoy your videos keep up the great work
Thank you Joseph :)
You can live for much less than $1000 per month in Saigon . We spend $400/month on rent in D4 and eat local street food or buy vegetables to eat at home for around $4 a day. Thao Dien is seen as the the more exclusive area so the rent and food costs are higher.
Yes you are correct it is entirely possible forsure! Just depends on yur income and lifestyle!
You can …..but you have to cook your own meals…. Living in cheap house….. can’t go to nice restaurants…. You can enjoy street foods….. and you will have very good life in HCM city…
I live in Bangkok always thought Vietnam was cheaper but almost exactly the same execpt you must be living in super nice place paying 600 usd
yeah i think its about the same! Helps that i live with my gf so we split the costs of our apartment
Liked and subscribed.. keep those good habits up, you'll live a happy life brother man!
thank you steven :) hope you stick around for more videos!
$1.30 for a pound of potatoes, is not cheap - it costs less in the UK!
depends how much you drink really... I lived in Phu My Hung, D7 (the other expat/expensive area of Saigon) on $1000 a month and still had change!
Hahaha I don’t drink very often ! Expat drinking areas can defs rack up some $$ every weekend

Hi, I noticed you are riding a bike? Do you have the budget for petrol and the bike rental?
Yes! So generally I spend about 70k (3.08$) every 4 days on gas and depending if I drive slow or fast I can stretch that to 5/6 days.
Bike rentals is 1M for a food quality avg 110cc scooter, honestly I’d just buy a bike for 5-6 M if your here longer thanks 6 months because you can sell it and make most of your money back when you leave!
I own my bike so I don’t pay any monthly rental!
Please add the travelling petrol and rent scooter

please, whats with licensing a moto in VN like. do i bring my own insurance? can i get a license while there? i've heard never buy a bike without the blue card? do you recommend to own or rent? thanks!
Hey man I own. Blue card isn’t in my name but it doesn’t matter here as long as the serial matches serial of bike.
If you already have a Moto liscence back home you can convert here very easy. If not and you have a car you have to convert to a car license then go do the bike practical test (driving no written)
You can buy third party insurance for your bike incase if damages. IzyViet or Janesniv have the best prices here in vietnam to assist you or i followed this blog and got it done myself without and agent but it was a bit confusing and I speak a bit of viet mysaigoncity.com/vietnam-driving-license/
