Please to anyone thinking about travelling or living overseas, it is all fun and relaxing but please ALWAYS get insurance.
It is quite easy to have an accident and without insurance they will give you the poorest care, and it will leave you and your family out of pocket by a lot of money.
My father let his insurance expire when he was living in Vietnam and had a accident on a motorbike. We had to raise funds to get him home to recieve care, and a special flight.
His injuries and complications caused by the poor healthcare in Vietnam were too much and he passed away a month after he arrived here.
At least he was with us for the last month. Please please always get insurance and be safe!

1000 USD is surviving, not living. Add all your expenses incl. Health Insurance, rental, Visa etc and expect a lower exchange rate USD/THB after Covid times ( before C19 it was already below 30 THB) you will end up at least to have 2.000 USD/month.

I'm skeptical. I bought a condo in Thailand almost twenty years ago. I still have it and go there when I can get away. The condo itself is pretty cheap to maintain, less than $1000 a year with condo fees, utilities and insurance. When I bought the condo in 2004 the word was that one could live like a king on $1000 a month; that was almost twenty years ago. Are we still going with the same story? Perhaps twenty years later one can live like a prince on $1000 a month? I think you can easily live there on $1000 a month, afterall, most Thai people live on a lot less than that per month. The real question is what kind of lifestyle do you want to have? I love Thailand and can't wait to get back there.

1000usd is possible, however it all depends on your needs, if you are only paying for yourself ( no girlfriend ,wife or family) and how you can adapt to living in Thailand.ie. can you eat Thai food ect. It really depends on the person, living here for 10 + years now, i would recommend this as the bare minimum, if you want to have a girlfriend and enjoy the nightlife and cant eat thai food, better double that amount, really depends on your lifestyle and personal needs.

But let's face the true, the huge majority of people in this city live with a salary under 500 usd a month, and they look ok. So what's make western so different than them? I have the impression there's a spending money competition sometimes in expat group. Just gonna depend on your lifestyle, where you plan to live, drinking, girls, food ect... If I take me as an example, my life in old Bangkok is way much cheaper than in the few foreign bubbles. Rent, food ect... Also I don't drink, not chasing girls, love to cook my food and my life is better than in my country in Europe by spending almost half if I compare to there. Lets said my culture value more saving than spending.

Depends on your definition of "living". I'd call that more surviving than living. £738 per month, 33,000 THB is more or less living like a Thai. That is fine for many blokes i guess, but it depends what you are used to and comfortable with. If you want to eat out in nice restaurants, live in a decent condo, maybe have a car and a motorbike etc, my idea of living is closer to 100,000 THB per month or around $3000 USD.

These budget videos are somewhat lacking in that they always leave out the cost of companionship (important to some people),medicine and medical care, personal care items, clothing allowance, transportation (sometimes) and emergency funds just to name a few. They also neglect to mention that some people have ongoing financial commitments in their home country even after leaving. Of course SOME people can live on the proposed budget, but the vast majority would need significantly more money. Thailand in professional economic indexes is listed as a minimum of $2000 USD (68k baht). Where the Philippines for example would be $1250 to $1500. The bottom line is people need to understand their individual needs in relation to these infomercials for the expat life. Don’t go overseas and find out you are inadequately funded. That will turn paradise into a living hell.

You can survive quite nicely on $1000 but not for long unless you're very disciplined and happy to merely exist.
7,500 bht (pm) accommodation can be a bit small (unless you move to the outskirts of town, which then adds to travel costs) and if you're on a tight budget and can't go out, that would get a bit depressing.
You really need some type of medical Insurance and the cost depends upon your physical condition /age/ etc
I love Thai food but every few weeks I want some western food and as soon as you add foreign food the price starts going up. Bangkok has some amazingly good international food such as Pizza, Tacos, Steak houses and Indian food, so why wouldn't you.
Also, whilst I adore Bangkok, I need to travel elsewhere in Thailand every month or so, and that adds extra costs.
Nightlife is the biggest expense and that's entirely personal choice.
I'd say you'd enjoy yourself a lot more on 1,500 and preferably on 2,000+, plus nightlife money if you're a party animal. That would give you the safety net for things like replacing a phone or laptop occasionally, as well as visa costs and travelling without having to watch every baht/always use public transport etc.
If you're in a relationship then you'll almost certainly need more.
But I'm sure some will need less and others more...

Eating isn't cheap in Thailand, it appears cheap because its "only 2 dollars" You add up the amount of money you spend on just eating food and drinking water/coke/red bull or what ever on a daily basis, sometimes you might have a random iced coffee or tea or juice or perhaps a bag of mango or pineapple because its 'only 50 cents. You might have a pizza or burger once a week.
Add up all you consume over a month and you are looking at 300 US plus. My food costs run at approx 200 a month in Europe, bread, meat, fruit, veg, cheese, tea, coffee, juice etc etc...Buy from the supermarket and prepare myself. My diet is mostly meat, and veggies. red and white meats. Cheap food in Thailand is a myth, what is cheap is the labour. I go out for a meal in Europe and order a Pad Thai in the local Thai restaurant, Perhaps 10 euro, what I am paying for is the 3 staff that have to prepare and serve my meal, someone to wash my dishes and someone to take payment, 3 staff to serve my food on min wage of 10 euro pr hour. Add in insurance for the restaurant, licences, taxes, health and safety inspections...the list is endless of hidden costs that are put onto my 10 Euro meal, take away all the 10 euro per hour staff plus hidden costs and set up a stall in Thailand, my Pad Thai is 1 Euro.

So if you could save 10K/year for 12 years you'd be ready to go. Or 12k/year for 10 years, or 20K for 6 years etc. That all depends on your ability to work your ass off and save ruthlessly! Obviously rates vary and maybe you'd want more of a cushion. But you'd already have enough to live there without working for a few years at least. If you want to do it, it's definitely doable!
The thing is once you move there you'd probably find something to do to earn some more cash anyway, whether a regular job or doing something online or teaching or like Keis, making income through UA-cam.

If you're in your 30s there's no retirement visa option (not counting the crazy exspensive golden visa since we're talking about living cheap here) so you have to do a visa run every other other month at least and you have to have insurance - regardless of it technically being a legal requirement after covid or not. Sure, you can live in a small condo, with 2 shirts, and eat street food. That is called existing and not really living.

Do you agree it's possible to live on $1000 a month? 33,000 Baht

A grand a month is insane. It can be done but you won't like it. Try 2600 usd a month. That works for me.

Hi Keis how's things mate? I believe we could live on $1000 USD a month if we were living there and not doing all the tourist stuff and wanting to do as much as possible all in like a 2/3 week holiday. However its different when people are on holiday, people don't stick to a budget as much. I would say living $1300 PM 2/3 week holiday $ 1700. I only say $1700 because we all don't want to have to think to much about money on a Holiday. I guess I will find out soon though not long now. Great video mate keep them coming. Stay Safe

So what do you do as a living in Thailand? I've been to Thailand several times and baffled as to why there are so many foreigners there yet not actual jobs for them other than teaching English (excepting retirees)

Yeah it’s not easy to find jobs here, I think remote work is the way to go..
      I do UA-cam full time 😊

I'm a software engineer. And even then the market is dead if they are even willing to hire. Looks like remote work is the only way but then getting companies willing to let you travel and work outside your country is an issue.

@@agentdark64 From what I hear they are screaming for software developers in BKK. Might help if you have some Thai language knowledge.

@@hanscarlsson7276 if you're from a cheaper country (like eastern Europe countries), then yes. If you are from usa, Australia, uk where they know you are paid highly, even if you are willing to work for less, they (the thai companies) dont like that. It's a salary difference issue.

How much income can you earn from an average unskilled job? And how much does it cost to go to a cinema or other things like museums, art galleries, etc.?
