Had to come back to this video after finally reading the Dragon Ball manga and, sadly, the untimely passing of Akira Toriyama. RIP to an illustrative legend. In a very real and discernable way, he changed global culture.
I'm very lucky to have found Dragon Ball before Z.. I had absolutely no idea it existed! Was so shocked to see Goku all grown up. I walked through the timeline without spoilers. I love my life
Yup, same here. I remember when the manga began coming out in my country, I bought Vol. 2 as my first one, so I was slightly confused for the first 6 months or so until I managed to find a discounted copy of Vol. 1 xD Each Vol. came out once a month, so the next 3½ years were very exciting for me :P
Not enough people talk about the complexity of character design and page structure of manga. Honestly, this video is one of the reasons as to why you're my favorite anime youtuber. Please keep up the great work.

Right? When he said that I paused the video and said "here is the true lord and savior, hero to all fans of shounen battle manga/anime ever. The real MVP. Someone give this woman a medal.". IDC if it was an accidental coincidence, that woman changed nerd culture forever XD
That's honestly one of the things I love the most about life, how seemingly tiny inconsequintial moments can end up having a massive impact later on. Like that one time when I was walking down the street, and a little group of people yelled at me to come over to them, because they thought I looked like one of their friends at a distance, which then ended up having me start hanging out at a nearby park with them, and that ended up introducing me to many of my best friends today, and that happened 10 years ago now. I often wonder how different my life would be if I had never walked down that path on that day, at that specific time.
The thing about Akira Toriyama's wife partially inspiring Dragon Ball reminded me of how Stephen King's wife fished her husband's manuscript for Carrie out of the trash
To be fair when an artist doesn’t feel a piece and doesn’t see where its going, this is common. It was also his FIRST novel and only like 3 pages in. He wasn’t drawn in emotionally. She read the 3 pages and told him “you have something here” Still, it wasn’t MUCH he threw out, but also a testament to his genius that in 3 pages he drew someone in. And I don’t think his wife woulda sugarcoated it either. She wanted to know what happened next. But yea I researched and it wasn’t a FULL draft he threw out, but even back then drawing someone in in 3 pages? That’s the dream isn’t it?

Well the argument is over. It is neither, Bulma, nor Chi-Chi, nor Videl, nor 18. Mrs Toriyama is Best Girl. And is literally a waifu. A Real Laifu Waifu in fact.
All insanely popular anime gets shit on. AOT for example. Once Jojo's bizarre adventure gets there, people will ridicule it as well, despite it being labelled a minor masterpiece just now. Quite sad really.
Emperor Reign when people shit on amazing stories like Dragon ball, AOT, Hunter x Hunter, and One piece.. (YES I'VE SEEN IT) I lose more faith in humanity than normal
Dragon Ball cemented the era for my beginning as becoming a big anime and manga fan with Dr. Slump years later. The main thing that drew me was the lively characters and colorful atmosphere, there's never a dull moment with the cast because they're well fit for lighthearted moments and action. Also, his Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger character designs were always memorable for me.
Toriyama straight-up forgot that Launch existed... yeah I'm not even joking, you can Google interviews of him saying that he forgot about her. It's a shame that he forgot about her too because she was my favorite female character in Dragon Ball.
Regal Pixel King Launch was extremely entertaining and should have had more exposure throughout the series. Actually, I recall reading he forgot about her and I have no damn idea how, lol.
I'm pretty sure he didn't forgot about her,I'm guessing he just didn't know what to do with her anymore so he took the easy way and left her out of the series, she was also supposed to appear on the genkidama panel instead of 17 ,from what i know the one he truly forgot was tao pai pai,From an interview he said that when when he was talking with Oda he mentioned Tao pai pai and Toriyama didn't know who the hell he was.
Akirya Toriyama inspired Masashi Kishimoto(Naruto Creator), Tite Kubo(Bleach Creator, Eichro Oda ( One Piece Creator ) and Modern Anime As A Whole So if it wasn't for DBZ other great manga/anime wouldn't be like what they are today ( this is to The Dbz Haters ) + 21 Year's On the series is still popular and talked about as if it never ended and it's still making content like dragon ball super, games, figurines etc You Could Call It ''The Star-wars of Anime''
And dragon ball wouldn't exist if it wasn't for DC superman lol, I think u going a bit too far with the whole new shonen anime wouldn't exist if it wasn't for db, toriyama inspired other manga writers not db, they didn't go "oh look at that amazing manga, I think ill write about a ninja kid who wants to be hokage nd i think ill write about a kid who wants to be the pirate king" just because they saw toriyama, they probably thought about the story way before and ADMIRED him as he had came before them. The writers admired toriyama, they didn't copy his work or anything like that, so all those anime u mentioned are famous on their own.
roronoa zoro Yeah, but DB was the main inspiration for their series, and without DB, most of the shounen anime/manga you see now wouldn't be their. DB was the inspiration for the mangakas' creations, not for their careers.
Me: well, I think this kid has a neat hairstyle, is really funny and is pretty cute This dude: soft curves creates a calm and innocent feeling to an individual, which in turn can be countercalculated via the jagged hair, creating a wilder appearance. This in turn not only symbolises Goku's personality but also informs the narrative structure and is symbolic for the way in which the series is portrayed. Welp...
am I the only one who likes gokus look at the 23rd best under the heavens tournament the best ..hes what 19 there and he looks so cool and skinny and hot and cute and fast and cooler with the black under shir and belt than the blue he become smore accustomed to wear later on in z and then all bleu at the end of z..i like goku look here the ebst...
DBZ was always pretty okay for my taste BUT I've always preferred DragonBall over the other two. Nice to see someone giving credit to the DragonBall most people confuse and forget of.
@@AWDISports Same, he’s always fun to watch. Adult Goku has some very great moments, but sometimes he can be pretty damn stupid. I wish he was a bit more mature.
I think Dragon Ball hits the perfect sort of aesthetic that I've found I like the most. Adventurous, (at the time) unpredictable and innovative with a layer of lightheartedness and charm, with unique interesting design choices in basically all aspects. I actually like Dragon Ball better than Z/GT/whatever -- not that I don't like them, just the original fits my personal tastes much better than catacylsm-of-the-week brawl fests. Same reasons I loved Slayers, Wakfu and Hunter x Hunter.
Charles Sandburg it’s not that innocent dude. Roshi getting horny for bulma and bulma showing boobs or showing her pussy to roshi for the dragon ball looks nothing innocent. I like it because it was all about what was on earth. And dragon ball starts o pick up when king piccolo is introduced
true, but once u get to super and Z the growth is essentially made, they're all adults, so that would be why u don't have the adventurous and lightheartedness, it was done
*The origin story form where the legend started.* *Not enough people give attention to the original Dragon Ball, because it was more childish and less combat oriented, but this is where the Z series was born form.* *_But nonetheless even on it’s own it stands strong proud against it’s successor, and any anime of that period._*
@Ultra Mega the "West" part of journey to the West refers to to india not the West as we know it its about a monk and the monkey journeying to the birthplace of Buddhism (india) to get some scrolls
Common misconception. DBZ is actually the "childish" part of the series (at least when it comes to the anime. I haven't read the manga). The original Dragonball is "lighthearted", but certainly not intended for children. The entire series is filled with sexual humor, especially the first 10 or so episodes, before they really get into the martial arts aspect. The first couple episodes highlight numerous situations in which Roshi, Oolong, and Yamcha all want to - or get to - see Bulma naked. The first thing Krillen does, when he shows up, is give Master Roshi some porno mags (while holding on to a few for himself). When Launch is introduced, Master Roshi spends every waking moment trying to grope her. Roshi even tricks launch into wearing lingerie for "training". When Bulma's clothes get dirty, Oolong gives her a Playboy Bunny outfit that she wears for three episodes. Dragonball is a comedy, but a very adult comedy. A lot of that humor went entirely over my head as a kid (and I'm pretty sure they censored a lot of it for daytime television), but watching it as an adult, it's not that far off from the type of stuff shown on Adult Swim. DBZ, on the other hand, is a more serious show, but they ended up veering away from the more explicit humor, making DBZ much more accessible for the younger audience.
I love this video, and it's going to see more views now. The details on how Toriyama uses single panels to show multiple events really highlight how Toriyama was known for not only the series he made, but his skill in artistic storytelling.
Dragonball is and always will be the archetipe of shounen battle series. More than Jojo, more than Fist of the North Star, more than any other. It will always be one of my favourites mangas of all time. To all people who may think the series is dated, that it really cannot compete with what we have today: I suggest you to read the manga and prove if this idea of yours is true or not. I'm sure that, even only a little, you will be amazed and almost fascinated by how beautifully crafted the manga series is. To this day, Dragonball fight scenes are some of the most clear, eye-friendly and easy to follow drawings I've personally ever read. Plus, the pure sense of adventure you breath through all the first part of the series (untill the defeat of Piccolo) is one of the most entertaining experiences a manga reader can ever have in my opinion. Of what the series became afterwards we could talk about forever. Many people hate the post-Frieza, other people love it... whatever. I personally enjoy everything untill the end of the Cell saga, which to this day is one of the best for me (even though my favourite will always be the Saiyan arc). Really... I could not stress this enough: try to re-read Dragonball.. or actually.. to read it for the first time, since many people only watched the debatably "good" anime... and I can assure that many of you won't be disappointed.
Having good fights is not all it takes to make a good show so I'm not sure why you think the manga having well drawn fights would change anyone's opinion.
EmmeKira Great comment. I'm one of those who think the quality dropped big time after Frieza, but only now. When i was a kid I loved the cell saga (not much the androids part though) The way they broke the concept of how Goku became the strongest in the universe still haunts me. It was a perfect ending.
I fully agree with you. The anime is infinitely worse than the manga (The rhythm is awful and there's quite a lot of filler). One has to read the original to really appreciate the series.
Whether people want to admit it or not Toriyama is a genius and The DragonBall franchise is the most popular anime of all time (imo) & its probably the most influential on other shonen and in pop culture. Its a top 5 anime of all time, people try to dive into all its flaws without pointing out its good. Strong characters, a good story, amazing action, Comedy. DragonBall is one long story told in theee different ways DB an adventure comedy, DBZ mainly action, DBS a combination of the two action. The manga is fantastic, & although the anime especially the In house Funimation dub made Goku more heroic than he was in all the DragonBall franchise is the reason most of us got into anime & its still going strong today. Sure they're anime with deeper stories and nore developed characters but the DragonBall franchise layed the foundation for all of that & it deserves its place in the upper echelon of anime.
I can't believe people debate if Toriyama is a genius and doubt DragonBall's legendary status... DragonBall is like the Beatles of anime!!!! SO many aspects of anything in anime owe themselves to DB.
ashvanee prabhudial I understand people have opinions and not everyone has to like everything but HOLY SHIT. People love putting their opinion as fact and saying Dragon ball as a whole sucks. (Yes I'm including Super because its not as bad as people say it is). Like, it honestly just gets annoying as shit.
NorthernRedStar Got that feeling not too long ago when he released "Why You Should Watch Jojo Part 3." Was doing a marathon of his vids and it just popped up ToT
Also, for those who know Dr Slump, Editor Torishima is the inspiration for evil Dr Mashirito (to-ri-shi-ma/ma-shi-ri-to), one of the funniest villains ever
This was actually said in the anime called bakuman which is a manga about making manga. Additionally bakuman was created by the creators of death note.
I think people take relative time as time passed in the anime, cause goku and his enemy's are faster than light or can move at light speed so most battles. Have to be shown slowed down. Which brings up an interesting question do they talk that fast. At times we see the characters clearly and can easily follow what they're doing but other times in the same battles it'll zoom out and be all over the place in an instant and all we see is the animation if the shockwaves made by attacks.
They seem to talk a lot in a small timeframe because the manga did that and the manga never really concerned itself with timeframes that much. Comics did this too. I think Stan Lee was infamous for it (He'd draw a character throwing a grenade while saying a full paragraph). A lot of the times this is just a character's thoughts, not their dialogue, which makes sense because you can think far faster than you can talk. But the animators made it dialogue instead.
The main reason as to why it's called Z is because the editor mistook the 2 for a Z, but I think explaining it in the way you did sounds much cooler lol
@@J1t03 I’m pretty sure the animators just decided to rebrand it with Z because it sounded cool. I don’t think it was particularly based off of anything related to the manga other than that there was a clear opportunity to rebrand entering the Saiyan saga. Certainly not Toriyama’s choice.
@@misterbk1791 correct. The anime decided to rebrand this part of the story moving forward to get more attention, but the manga originally made no distinction and never did. Always just been Dragon Ball
people like to shit on dragon ball but all the best shonens wouldn't exist with out it. it's influential to manga the way Simpsons is to adult animated comedies.
I mean come think logically if how can naruto and OP copy of off something that has no story 🤡
@Anonymus Being luffy yes, naruto not that much, if you are talking about their orange suit and then I don't know what to tell you, character wise luffy and gon are really similar to goku where as naruto and ichigo are different, let me explain if u mean how they are brats as kids, that explains it, they were brats and innocent because they were kids(all of them).
What I love about Dragonball and DBZ, is that they keep that light heartedness in check at all times. AT keeps it rather simple and doesn't really deviate from the fundamental values he imbued into 99% of his characters. It makes it super easy to just point a finger and directly say "this is the bad guy and this is the good guy". Nowadays everybody is about edgy teen drama.
The older I get the more I prefer the early Mangas and DB over the later ones and DBZ. But even as a teenager, while being hyped for DBZ, I always preferred the more adventurous, creative, surreal and inspirational tone of DB (and the associated mangas). I also remember the Great Saiyaman Saga being my favorite part about DBZ when watching it in my late teens, as it remembered me of the tone of DB. After watching DB with my wife when we got together and now recently with our daughter, young Goku grew so close to my heart, it almost hurts thinking about it. DBZ just doesn't even closely manage to fill my heart with emotions of happiness, inspiration and nostalgia in the same way as DB does.
Dragon Ball and Hunter x Hunter are my 2 favorite series. I really enjoy the large cast of interesting characters, cool and unique powers, and great adventure and constantly changing setting. DBZ was good, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as DB and it's kinda sad that so many people who "love" DBZ have never seen or even heard of DB
To be fair the cast is weak C.Besides goku he was the character that made me say "Woah ,toriyma got inspired to start the shonen formula .I mean gon form hunter X hunter
Goku and Sayains are the only characters that matter and are the strongest in DBZ, but that isn't true of DB. Goku isn't always the strongest in DB and characters like Yamcha, Krillin, Tien, Roshi, etc actually matter and are about as strong as Goku. That's one of the main reasons I enjoy DB.
OldCrotchety I know it's opinion but there are many reasons why DBZ is better, better choreography, I prefer the fillers and comedy, the fights the designs and my favourite character Gohan, almost rivalled by Piccolo Jr.
It was a huge youth cultural phenomenon around 2001 in Germany. I vividly remember being mad the double episode special that was on every night at 7 pm was skipped on september 11th 2001 for breaking news
Eyepatch wolf giving insight into creating illustrations and designs is why I think he is going to become a huge youtuber! Keep it up Wolf and have you checked out a movie called Jin-roh?
This was great. As a westerner who watched DBZ on morning tv then went back and watched Dragonball on DVD years later, I think this perfectly sums up the charm of Dragonball. The fact that so many of Dragonball's characters remain so consistent from Dragonball right through to Dragonball Z just makes the show so fun to watch.
Just came back to watch this for a second time and I wanted to say your analysis is so insightful it gives me goosebumps, and the standard of your presentation is beyond anything I've seen in anime youtubers. Keep up the fantastic work!
It was the same for me, here in germany! i was around 6 years old and skipping through the programms and the first scene i saw was, when freeza kiled krillin :D
Beautiful I feel inspired I have been creating a comic for a year and i plan too publish it soon so seeing this really makes me look at it the different way I feel like its not good enough every time i look at the videos like this but it motivates me to work even harder Maybe one day i do something...who knows Great video btw Quality as always :D

DO IT. Don't wait until you think you'll "get better eventually". That will never happen unless you BEGIN. Besides, you can always go back and reboot your old work when you truly "get better eventually"!
I mean I watched DB as a child in the late 90s/2000s. I know I watched DBZ on cartoon network but there would also be DB late at night that came on rarely but I know it was DB wish I could remember what channel or network.
I remember when fairly odd parents made the movie they directly referenced db and not dbz and I thought I was so cool for having watched the originals online
Goku is still innocent.. which other people consider it as being "dumb" as well because of the dub version that made Goku some serious hero ala-Superman character like some hope of the universe and savior which actually not the entirety of his character. Goku has always been this innocent, curious warrior to test his skills that sometimes leads to story arcs just like his curiosity about the Dragon Balls, the world _(why he go with Bulma for travel and adventures and encountered the Red Ribbon Army)_ , his curiosity and innocence to fight other strong fighters by joining the world martial arts tournament and seeking out Roshi to get stronger etc etc... Heck, even Goku's innocence is what triggered the universal tournament that puts the DBS story into motion of the latest universal tournament arc. DBS has never loss that innocent essence.. its the people's perspective that have changed.
DL DD agreed I prefer the original dragon ball over z I,love the adventures that kid goku and Bulma had also I would love to see a original dragon ball Kai edit because red ribbon army saga sucked I wish that had some edits to that boring part and shortened it but they're probably not gonna do it cause toei would be focus way too much over z I'm sorry but I find z to be overrated I prefer the original dragon ball the first 28 episodes are classics in my opinion and probably would be my favorite anime and I may get some hate for it but it's my opinion
DB fanboys are such hipsters..acting like the first part was some deep masterpiece when the only difference is the scale. It was also "dumb" and simple in terms of story and characters
Eichiro Oda (One Piece creator) has learned from the master and legend. He couldn't have had a better teacher. Edit: Well, whoops. Mixed some stuff here. He worked with him on Cross Epoch but recalls him all the time as his idol and his biggest influence on OP. One article back then claimed it so I thought it was real.
Not only that, but he worked as an assistant to Shinobu Kaitani, the creator of Liar Game and One Outs. It was at that time he made his first pirate themed story and the beginnings of One Piece. He also worked as an assistant to Watsuki Nobuhiro on Rurouni Kenshin.
I love youtube videos where someone does their research and presents it in an amicable fashion, without yelling and being artificially excited about something. Thank you for making this.
Man, something about your videos just ... idk man. They just really hit me. They always take me back through my own brain as I've grown up with these shows and different pieces of formative media that we apparently had very much in common, even growing up halfway across the world from each other. It's always a good night when I fall back into another binge-session of these vids. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these.
What I love about the old manga from the 80s and early 90s was the pure amount of care and thought put into each window. Every frame was perfectly drawn and illustrated, compared that with modern day manga series that's clearly drawn under intense studio pressure over time constraints the difference is clear. Even huge series like Naruto and Hunter x Hunter feels like first drafts compared to the classic mangas (the anime series are usually much better though). Which is the reason why I think One Piece is so dominant in the manga scene, the sheer amount of polish that's been put into each page is noticeably better than the rest (on top of a very distinctive style and great character design of course). Also one more thing, Dr. Slump wasn't just "pretty successful", it was one of the biggest hit across entire East Asia at the time, the TV series was massively successful and translated into multiple languages and broadcast in various countries, Toriyama was already hailed as one of the greatest manga artist even before the release of the Dragon Ball series.
When I was a teen, I was all about DBZ. Now that I'm old, I prefer Dragonball, it just felt like a fun adventure with always discovering new places, people, and something different every episode. With DBZ, you could predict exactly what was going to happen almost every arc.
My introduction to Dragon Ball was volume 1 appearing in my school's library. That was actually the beginning of my love of manga. You hit the nail on the head again Wolf.
BRO the growth part of DBZ is the best parts of it all together! I loved watching goku grow and then see the results in which he gained from that training. It gave it a REAL feel that maybe even his power was attainable. (besides the super sayain part.) But Dragon Ball did a hell of a job doing this.
I started off this video wondering why this wasn't a "Why You Should Watch" video, like, does that mean he doesn't think I should watch it? But this video was actually different from your other videos and I thought it was awesome! Definitely one of your best yet
I don't think he wants to limit himself to just talking about a show from the perspective of why someone should watch it. Recommendation and review is great but his content would become limited and possibly repetitive if he took the same angle all the time. That being said, I still love every single one of his videos so far, and I don't see myself getting bored anytime soon!
dude i suscribed to you ages ago, and no videos came up my feed ! accidentally came upon this video and saw it's yours... i love dragon ball. i remember watching it as a kid, everyday after school, to a point where my mom memorised all the character. completeley blee my little 6 year old mind. obviously i grew up to be a big anime appreciater !
Another two things that makes Dragonball special are; 1) the integration of some elements of the Chinese novel 'Journey to the West', 2) how foes and villains were always given a second chance and they eventually became friends and allies of Goku

VACCAMAN
Dragon Ball cemented the era for my beginning as becoming a big anime and manga fan with Dr. Slump years later. The main thing that drew me was the lively characters and colorful atmosphere, there's never a dull moment with the cast because they're well fit for lighthearted moments and action. Also, his Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger character designs were always memorable for me.
As all of the manga greats, Toriyama forgot a character of his own making ever existed
That's a beautiful comment, but I think you meant to say 'cemented' instead 'cremates'. It read as a very sombre story initially xD
You could argue the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter X Hunter also inspired plenty of Mangaka
S B he did, but togashi has been cited as being deeply inspired by toriyama
July of 2020 will have dragon ball super continued
roronoa zoro Yeah, but DB was the main inspiration for their series, and without DB, most of the shounen anime/manga you see now wouldn't be their. DB was the inspiration for the mangakas' creations, not for their careers.
Me: well, I think this kid has a neat hairstyle, is really funny and is pretty cute
This dude: soft curves creates a calm and innocent feeling to an individual, which in turn can be countercalculated via the jagged hair, creating a wilder appearance. This in turn not only symbolises Goku's personality but also informs the narrative structure and is symbolic for the way in which the series is portrayed.
Welp...
The difference between someone just enjoying the story, and someone doing a deep dive analysis as to why it's great character design :P
am I the only one who likes gokus look at the 23rd best under the heavens tournament the best ..hes what 19 there and he looks so cool and skinny and hot and cute and fast and cooler with the black under shir and belt than the blue he become smore accustomed to wear later on in z and then all bleu at the end of z..i like goku look here the ebst...
Yea he kinda talks outta his ass sometimes for sure.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 Do you think Goku's design doesn't convey any of that?
@@olserknam No honestly it gives me a Bart Simpson vibe.

I agree. I think Goku as a kid is a better character than adult Goku for sure
I get ya. The original Dragon Ball is very innocent and charming with a hidden sense of danger and tension around the corner.
Ikwym
true, but once u get to super and Z the growth is essentially made, they're all adults, so that would be why u don't have the adventurous and lightheartedness, it was done
It sounds like you might really like One Piece, has alot of the elements you just mentioned, highly recommend!

The argument I see the most is that dbz does all the tropes but the thing is dbz MADE all the tropes
*The origin story form where the legend started.*
*Not enough people give attention to the original Dragon Ball, because it was more childish and less combat oriented, but this is where the Z series was born form.*
*_But nonetheless even on it’s own it stands strong proud against it’s successor, and any anime of that period._*
@@pazminoproject don't forget when Oolong roofies bulma lol

Talking about a series I love as much as Jojo's...
You treat me too well :')
Putting DB on the same level as JoJo, this is madness, DIO is rolling in his grave.
Felipe Rodrigues Only a close-minded hipster would deny the greatness and majesty of DBZ
Felipe Rodrigues He can keep rolling, the man got beaten by a schoolboy
Ace ProdeJ He's to good to us!
Lewis I never said Z, mate. Just Dragon Ball, if we're talking about the manga as whole; that's a hill I'm willing to die on.
Dude your channel has blown up so hard well deserved! I swear it was only early last year I was complaining you only had 7k subs!!
Really... I could not stress this enough: try to re-read Dragonball.. or actually.. to read it for the first time, since many people only watched the debatably "good" anime... and I can assure that many of you won't be disappointed.
k
Agree, DBZ brought fans in from all around the world and people of different backgrounds. It is a very influential anime.
Having good fights is not all it takes to make a good show so I'm not sure why you think the manga having well drawn fights would change anyone's opinion.
EmmeKira
Great comment. I'm one of those who think the quality dropped big time after Frieza, but only now. When i was a kid I loved the cell saga (not much the androids part though)
The way they broke the concept of how Goku became the strongest in the universe still haunts me. It was a perfect ending.
I fully agree with you. The anime is infinitely worse than the manga (The rhythm is awful and there's quite a lot of filler). One has to read the original to really appreciate the series.
RIP Toriyama-san
It's confirmed.
Toriyama's wife has influenced all of anime.
4:00 BUTTERFLY EFFECT IS REAL
Duh? How do you think the universe works? An action leads to a consequence and vice versa, one big domino effect.
No sane person argues that it's fake...
Sure they're anime with deeper stories and nore developed characters but the DragonBall franchise layed the foundation for all of that & it deserves its place in the upper echelon of anime.
ashvanee prabhudial I agree. You hit the nail on the head with your comment!!
ashvanee prabhudial I love your comment. imma copy if you don't mind

ashvanee prabhudial I understand people have opinions and not everyone has to like everything but HOLY SHIT. People love putting their opinion as fact and saying Dragon ball as a whole sucks.
To be fair it's been 5 years since I watch anime .Been 4 years ago
Justin Dougherty
talking is free action
They seem to talk a lot in a small timeframe because the manga did that and the manga never really concerned itself with timeframes that much. Comics did this too. I think Stan Lee was infamous for it (He'd draw a character throwing a grenade while saying a full paragraph). A lot of the times this is just a character's thoughts, not their dialogue, which makes sense because you can think far faster than you can talk. But the animators made it dialogue instead.
So Dragon Ball’s layout is literally that of the letter Z.
God damn it Toriyama, you brilliant man
The main reason as to why it's called Z is because the editor mistook the 2 for a Z, but I think explaining it in the way you did sounds much cooler lol
@Captain Zorc ??
@@jaybee27D it isn’t z it is literally just dragon ball it isn’t even a part 2 it’s called z after it was msde
@@misterbk1791 correct. The anime decided to rebrand this part of the story moving forward to get more attention, but the manga originally made no distinction and never did. Always just been Dragon Ball

I agreed

Rest in peace Akira Toriyama, you created so much magic over the years
The older I get the more I prefer the early Mangas and DB over the later ones and DBZ.
DB was much funnier, then DBZ.. Ich really loved it!
I think it had better action too
Dragon Ball and Hunter x Hunter are my 2 favorite series.
Dragonball has a decent characters
Goku and Sayains are the only characters that matter and are the strongest in DBZ, but that isn't true of DB. Goku isn't always the strongest in DB and characters like Yamcha, Krillin, Tien, Roshi, etc actually matter and are about as strong as Goku. That's one of the main reasons I enjoy DB.
OldCrotchety Thank you! I never see anyone talk about DB, even though its better than DBZ imo.
OldCrotchety I know it's opinion but there are many reasons why DBZ is better, better choreography, I prefer the fillers and comedy, the fights the designs and my favourite character Gohan, almost rivalled by Piccolo Jr.

Goku's "innocence" huh..... too bad that doesn't exist anymore in DB super.......
It does. He still is pretty ignorant about many aspects of his universe, such as Omni-King's volatility.
tenkensan1 he's still extremely innocent, remember he is an adult now. different type of innocent
Lol,all that innocence seems gone now that the tournament has started
You guys are confusing Innocence with Naive

Dragon Ball is an amazing series. The fact that people are still talking about it today says a lot.
DB/dbz and jojo are my two favorite series of all time glad you apreciate them both (please make a why you should watch/read dragon Ball z)
Same!
As a guy making a comic myself, the pointers on the panel layout is incredibly helpful for me.
R.I.P Akira toriyama
Rest in peace to the legend Akira Toriyama.
Thank you for your amazing coverage of this series over the years. RIP Akira Toriyama
BRO the growth part of DBZ is the best parts of it all together! I loved watching goku grow and then see the results in which he gained from that training. It gave it a REAL feel that maybe even his power was attainable. (besides the super sayain part.) But Dragon Ball did a hell of a job doing this.
RIP Toriyama sensei. love always 🇲🇽
That being said, I still love every single one of his videos so far, and I don't see myself getting bored anytime soon!
yep, 100%. Still love doing Why you should watches, but if I take that format too often ill get bored with it, and the quality will suffer.
dude i suscribed to you ages ago, and no videos came up my feed ! accidentally came upon this video and saw it's yours... i love dragon ball. i remember watching it as a kid, everyday after school, to a point where my mom memorised all the character. completeley blee my little 6 year old mind. obviously i grew up to be a big anime appreciater !
Another two things that makes Dragonball special are; 1) the integration of some elements of the Chinese novel 'Journey to the West', 2) how foes and villains were always given a second chance and they eventually became friends and allies of Goku
