  • When it comes to being healthy and improving your health, the overwhelm of information and advice can literally melt your brain. Whether you follow a keto diet, paleo, vegan, or carnivore, the goal for everyone is pretty similar. Get healthy and optimize productivity and energy. Dr. Dominic D’Agostino is back for round two and breaking down everything you need to know about why your biomarkers matter.
    Dr. D’Agostino reveals the truth behind whether or not carnivore or plant based diets are best for you, how to optimize your biomarkers with fasting, and what you need to know about what role exogenous ketones can play in your optimal health regimen. You’ll want to pay close attention to understand why Covid can potentially become an ongoing problem for young healthy adults and how inflammation is impacting everything.
    Don’t miss Dr. D’Agostino’s first episode on Health Theory: • The SHOCKING TRUTH Abo...

    QUOTES:
    “Having optimal metabolic health in terms of low insulin, low glycemic variability, low glucose overall, and optimizing your cardio metabolic biomarkers is the way to combat this disease.” [2:38]
    “In the context of many pathogens, whether it be viral, whether it be bacterial, or if you are dealing with an inflammatory issue, fasting, and a ketogenic diet, which mimics many aspects of fasting can be very beneficial.” [9:43]
    “We are omnivores, right? So we are basically hardwired and evolved to eat to be extremely adaptable in what we are eating.” [41:49]
    “If you're on a very limited amount of calories, and you want to get as much nutrition as possible, with the least amount of calories, a carnivore diet is the perfect approach.” [44:22]
    “What may even be more important than having a diversity of fiber is actually having fermented foods. [They] contribute to the population, can reverse gut dysbiosis and increase the diversity of the gut microbiome” [46:10]
    “You can thrive off a carbohydrate based diet but your glycemic variability will correlate to food cravings. So, if you want to go throughout your day and have optimal productivity and feel optimal energy, I found [...] that a low carb approach is the way to go. ” [47:32]
    “There are benefits to being in a hyper ketone anemic state, so the ketones then act as an alternative energy source, anti-inflammatory molecule and a hormone which has many beneficial effects.” [48:51]

    Somewhat off topic here. My husband had an anaphylactic response to Taxol chemotherapy. His body reacted immediately and was so severe it almost killed him. The immune response can be so strong! His Dr. tried the Taxol a second time resulting in a more severe reaction! He now has to carry an epi pen because certain fruits and vegetables that he once could eat now cause a reaction. The bodies response is a powerful thing.

      @barbarafairbanks4578 2 роки тому

      @@christinelane8592 I agree. Although, I don't think your attitude is 'the opposite' from those of us who weren't looking for a nice 'allegory', but rather the science explained in layman's terms we could better understand. Layman's terms & allegories are complete opposites.
      Other than that... what true scientist speaks in allegories? None I've ever heard... (though, not saying it doesn't happen, I guess).
      Robert Sapolsky- a magnificent scientific lecturer comes close - and if you were to hear him weave a (true) story to get his students to fully understand scientific fact you'd be hanging on every word. But I don't think Sapolsky's story telling to make his science come alive could be considered allegory, anyway.

    • @scottk1525
      @scottk1525 2 роки тому

      @@christinelane8592 It's not about "dumbing it down." Even intelligent general audiences don't have time to commit to becoming a biochem major just to understand a talk about ways to boost immunity and improve health. And given Tom's clear motives for this discussion (to provide a digestible discussion of practical health tips for general audiences,) deep dives into molecular biology really aren't necessary, and even if they were, there are ways to explain these processes without necessitating that the audience has already commit very niche vocabulary to memory. I guess I could always just pull out the cliché Feynman quote: "If you can't explain something to a 6 year old, you don't understand it well enough."

    It really seems like some people purposely try to withhold information from other people so that they can be perceived as the smartest person in the room, or so that they can increase their value by causing a lack in the supply of information.

      Squirrel - this is your opinion, of course.
      Idk, I think as soon as we try to point out/'figure out' another person's behavioral 'ulterior motive', the more we divulge about ourselves and our own mindset - i.e., we use our own mindset (untrained as far as professional psychological 'tools') to try to figure out where someone is 'coming from.'
      The doctor IS obviously a highly educated and intelligent person, already. I doubt he needs to TRY to make himself 'appear' to be the smartest person in the room....not this room. Obviously, in this room and in this context (on this subject), he IS the smartest in the room. I'm sure Tom would agree.
      And, it's all relative, anyway. Put him in another room with some highly educated expert in...whatever...rocket science, for instance, and he WOULDN'T be the smartest in the room.
      I would venture to say, in THAT scenario he's smart enough not to try to be the smartest person in the room. Here in this scenario, he doesn't need to TRY either.

    Ketosis is the body's crisis response mechanism and should not be a normative homeostatic state. There is no civilization that has exhibited long term thriving and health on a ketogenic diet. There is an inordinate amount of research that contradicts the lion's share what is being purported here. Impeaching other dietary lifestyles that have both empirical and anecdotal evidence to support their employment in lieu of a carnivore diet is beyond disingenuous, it's irresponsible. This one was a dud.

    So much talk about consuming exogenous ketones, yet never saying what they are. This conversation, at least the entire first 25 minutes which is where I stopped, was simply diarrhea of chemical terminology with no explanation of them. I have studied biochemistry and still found all this tossing about of terminology without explanation frustrating. Are listeners supposed to magically know and understand all these terms just by hearing the words spoken? Who was this conversation targeting, lab researchers? Certainly not a lay person looking for guidance.
