QUOTES:
“Having optimal metabolic health in terms of low insulin, low glycemic variability, low glucose overall, and optimizing your cardio metabolic biomarkers is the way to combat this disease.” [2:38]
“In the context of many pathogens, whether it be viral, whether it be bacterial, or if you are dealing with an inflammatory issue, fasting, and a ketogenic diet, which mimics many aspects of fasting can be very beneficial.” [9:43]
“We are omnivores, right? So we are basically hardwired and evolved to eat to be extremely adaptable in what we are eating.” [41:49]
“If you're on a very limited amount of calories, and you want to get as much nutrition as possible, with the least amount of calories, a carnivore diet is the perfect approach.” [44:22]
“What may even be more important than having a diversity of fiber is actually having fermented foods. [They] contribute to the population, can reverse gut dysbiosis and increase the diversity of the gut microbiome” [46:10]
“You can thrive off a carbohydrate based diet but your glycemic variability will correlate to food cravings. So, if you want to go throughout your day and have optimal productivity and feel optimal energy, I found [...] that a low carb approach is the way to go. ” [47:32]
“There are benefits to being in a hyper ketone anemic state, so the ketones then act as an alternative energy source, anti-inflammatory molecule and a hormone which has many beneficial effects.” [48:51]

Tom, what I love about your interviews is that you are constantly asking clarifying questions as your guests speak. You are incredibly skilled at it and the best in my opinion. You are completely engrossed and engaged in each and every conversation. Thank you so much!
Yea but he is also full of shit and full of himself. He cuts people off and talks too much for an interviewer.
@@loopy7057 your opinion, of course...you forgot to clarify that.
I agree
I had to pause this like 50 times to let my brain digest it all. Thanks for all the info!

Yeah but, only for men. Women need iron.
@@Wonder_Woman21 women lose blood naturally though, and also statistically outlive men, so it seems to even out 🤓
Working with a functional medicine doctor I have had two 500 mil of blood taken 4 weeks a part because my ferritin is way too high - feel so much better for it and the colour difference between the 1st and 2nd really surprised me! 2nd one was taken yesterday, will have one further in 2 months. I am female and have normal periods. Been keto- carnivore woe 7 years. Always striving for better health :)
Dom is a true legend.
Dom is the man!
I have been following his work for a few years now 👌. Excellent work Tom.
I sent this to my family I am hoping it helps them to get with the Health Program. Thanks!
Somewhat off topic here. My husband had an anaphylactic response to Taxol chemotherapy. His body reacted immediately and was so severe it almost killed him. The immune response can be so strong! His Dr. tried the Taxol a second time resulting in a more severe reaction! He now has to carry an epi pen because certain fruits and vegetables that he once could eat now cause a reaction. The bodies response is a powerful thing.
Thank you. Very enlightening - the further precision on the subject here. Keto/Vore since 2019.
A lot of this went over my head, and my takeaway is - if I start to feel sick, go on a fast.
Ross Phillips - Same! My one, for sure, takeaway also😅
I find this level of technical detail overwhelming for the first half of this talk. It got more useful as it went on. Most of us watching this aren’t doctors but really need this inflammation advice.
You're right , great info, but I need more of layman terms. It's hard to stop and research different words
*Tom:* Whoa whoa! I'm trying to keep this episode grounded.
*Dom:* Oh ok. Anyway, like I was saying about betahydroxybutyrate..
Scott K...🤣 yah, same here!
I loved it, though, when Tom finally took hold of the reins with...'Whoa! Hyperviligent immune system?? Wha???'
Finally!.... after Dominic has rattled off this term already several times... 'hyperviligent immune system!'
like its a good thing, and I'm just dying here over this term. Tom SAVED the interview, I felt, by putting the brakes on and making Dom fully explain 'hypervigilent immune system'.
I'm the opposite. I don't want things dumbed down. Nothing worse than a scientist who just speaks in allegories.
@@christinelane8592 I agree. Although, I don't think your attitude is 'the opposite' from those of us who weren't looking for a nice 'allegory', but rather the science explained in layman's terms we could better understand. Layman's terms & allegories are complete opposites.
Other than that... what true scientist speaks in allegories? None I've ever heard... (though, not saying it doesn't happen, I guess).
Robert Sapolsky- a magnificent scientific lecturer comes close - and if you were to hear him weave a (true) story to get his students to fully understand scientific fact you'd be hanging on every word. But I don't think Sapolsky's story telling to make his science come alive could be considered allegory, anyway.
@@christinelane8592 It's not about "dumbing it down." Even intelligent general audiences don't have time to commit to becoming a biochem major just to understand a talk about ways to boost immunity and improve health. And given Tom's clear motives for this discussion (to provide a digestible discussion of practical health tips for general audiences,) deep dives into molecular biology really aren't necessary, and even if they were, there are ways to explain these processes without necessitating that the audience has already commit very niche vocabulary to memory. I guess I could always just pull out the cliché Feynman quote: "If you can't explain something to a 6 year old, you don't understand it well enough."
Thank you so much Tom for sharing this amazing conversation 🙏❤️
God bless you 🙏

Blood donation, first I have ever heard of this. Dumb question: dose plasma donation have a similar effect ?

It really seems like some people purposely try to withhold information from other people so that they can be perceived as the smartest person in the room, or so that they can increase their value by causing a lack in the supply of information.
Unfortunate.
Luckily though Tom is a thorough detective.
Squirrel - this is your opinion, of course.
Idk, I think as soon as we try to point out/'figure out' another person's behavioral 'ulterior motive', the more we divulge about ourselves and our own mindset - i.e., we use our own mindset (untrained as far as professional psychological 'tools') to try to figure out where someone is 'coming from.'
The doctor IS obviously a highly educated and intelligent person, already. I doubt he needs to TRY to make himself 'appear' to be the smartest person in the room....not this room. Obviously, in this room and in this context (on this subject), he IS the smartest in the room. I'm sure Tom would agree.
And, it's all relative, anyway. Put him in another room with some highly educated expert in...whatever...rocket science, for instance, and he WOULDN'T be the smartest in the room.
I would venture to say, in THAT scenario he's smart enough not to try to be the smartest person in the room. Here in this scenario, he doesn't need to TRY either.
@@barbarafairbanks4578 Again, you miss the point. This Dom fellow was invited to convey useful information to listeners. He failed. And Tom, why do you always act like you know/understand what these types of guests are saying?
Loopy...good points.
As for Doc, IMO, highly intelligent people just assume everyone is as astute as they are, until proven otherwise. (probably a mix of that, plus I doubt he has the patience, or even wherewithal to try to get his highly trained neurons (on this subject), to translate into layman's terms.)
As for Tom, IMO - he actually DOES understand (and it did take some time & rephrasing & some analogies on Dom's part for Tom to 'get' it... I doubt he's fakin it.
(but, of course, this is just my own impression of what's going on here🤔)
I agree @Loopy. When people are so well versed in a subject, the language of which is second nature to them, they forget that not everyone speaks the language. It’s infuriating. Ok we get it, you’re brilliant. Now, can you take a few steps back and teach?? Geesh. What a waste of time.

Ketosis is the body's crisis response mechanism and should not be a normative homeostatic state. There is no civilization that has exhibited long term thriving and health on a ketogenic diet. There is an inordinate amount of research that contradicts the lion's share what is being purported here. Impeaching other dietary lifestyles that have both empirical and anecdotal evidence to support their employment in lieu of a carnivore diet is beyond disingenuous, it's irresponsible. This one was a dud.
