What are some of the things you were naturally good at when you were growing up? What captured your attention and made you dream and get excited when you were younger and had no cares or limitations on what was possible or not? Are those things still captivating you now or have you lost sight of them? When you consider what you are now passionate about and excited to accomplish, is there a relation between then and now?
This conversation with Ben Greenfield dives into the notion of being pulled toward natural talent and abilities from childhood and Ben’s inclination to allow those things to clue you in on a purpose worth pursuing. Tom shares the reason he’s leaned into the notion of being able to develop skills even in the absence of natural talent. The ideas Ben and Tom explore take you from childhood to reimagining what heaven and the afterlife could possibly be and everything in between.

“The key part of the rite of passage is being alone, facing your fears, finding yourself in a space where you must dissolve your ego and understand that there are forces of nature that are more powerful than you.” [31:52]
“Don't try to fix people as much as just try to love people.” [1:01:03]
“The spiritual energy that you get from eating real, whole food derived from nature, as close to nature as possible, there's a certain sacredness in that [...] not just physical, but also a spiritual energy...” [1:12:07]
“As creatures on this planet, we can't disconnect ourselves from the life force of every other creature on this planet.” [1:15:14]

I love the rite of passage ceremony idea for our children! My FAVORITE; however is his experience of ego dissolution through plant medicine, which reconfirms the fact that it ALL comes down to love. It's exciting each time a person shares this realization, and it inspires motivation to follow my new career path as I know this path will allow me to lovingly help others ❤
Please share any knowledge you may have on medicinal plant practitioners in the northeast; but I'm researching and will share what I find if you'd like . THANK YOU!!! 🙏💪❤

I could not think of anything of less practical value than prayer. And no. If I'm sure of anything, it's that you are most certainly not praying for random people that read your youtube comment. You're telling me that today you literally said "god, please let something amazing happen to anybody that reads my youtube comment?" no. no of course you didn't.

How bizarre that you willingly pray to a god who openly mandates the subjugation and abuse of women. But then, here in America we openly pray to a god that loves genocide, and even infanticide. So I guess I shouldn't be shocked.

This conversation was very fascinating. The one thing that I'm reflecting on most, is the natural abilities you already can identify as a child. I think I've mistakenly taken over pressure from the outside world to develop skills that do not match my natural abilities. (if that even makes sense?). I've written down some things I used to do when I was a child (asked my parents), and it doesn't reflect in my choices today. And that's an eye-opener, yet it explains why I don't feel like I'm living my purpose. Very interesting, I'm definitel going to look into this. Other interesting point was the food macro's and the energy/spiritual addition. 3rd, his view on heaven surprised me. The question itself is brilliant to think about. So many interesting things. Thank you Tom for introducing me to Ben, and for the incredible questions.

Do you really have to show your ID, to prove or make a point? Do you really think it is needed to show your past, so that the truth you expose at present, make a sense, as facts are facts, truth are truth.
I would say, you are Mr Maximus, the exact depiction of today's society, being that only "your past" qualifications, make you a minister of truth, even tough you do lie trough your teeth.
You may listen, until they speak about the rite of passage, from boyhood to adulthood, then come back and read what you wrote.
It's ok to make a mistake, just learn from it, hace a great day.

6 minutes in and the discussion on how brains work reminds me of when I learned about Aphantasia. Aphantasia means your mind is kind of blank. You can't bring forth pictures in your mind's eye. For example my brother can't picture a zebra striped banana, but I can. And because of that he doesn't tend to dwell on the past, whereas I often will replay entire scenes in my head of past interactions. I can still hear my father's exact voice in my head, but my brother cannot. So, while someone may be able to see a piece of paper with lines in it and can use their imagination to pick up the paper and fold it according to this lines, another person would not be able to do that at all. They can only see what is in front of them, no imagination.

    • @karaf.3863
      @karaf.3863 2 роки тому

Okay, a little further in and he is taking about having his family watching a movie in their minds about their day. Some people can't do that. It's not a skill folks with Aphantasia can learn. They closed their eyes and it is just dark.

I don't need my social interaction to come from work. I'd prefer to work virtually. After work, I can socialize in person all I want.
When I work in person with people I end up coming off antisocial or I can't concentrate because people want to walk up and talk to you about everything but work. No, I don't want to know what irritated you today or hear about your kids. No, I don't want to tell you about my kid or gossip about the latest office drama.
I'm all for people returning to the office if that is what works for them. But they are not going to feel a lack from me not being there because if I'm there I will interact with them less and they will like me less lol.

The smallest axioms or structures of an idea or object. Particles are first principles of matter, humans are first principles of society, for example.

That wilderness ritual helped parents realised that it wasn't just a summer camp, and the responsibility they have to continue that transition at home.
In Asia it is common for children to go to school by themselves and all that backlash to the mother who tried to teach her kids real life skills is a reflection of the society's backwards mentality.

He's presuming Human race is so advanced and made in the image of god when actually we are the least awake species that ever existed A tree or an ant or even the bacteria is never upset unless influenced by pollution from humans. I would argue that we are the species least made by the image of god. But on the other side I appreciate the love towards others ♥
